I cannot say enough about how awesome the owners are and how inclusive they have been in regards to making everyone from the LGBTQ+ community feel welcome. Never heard of reserving bar seats in all my years of our family business, as well as working in the bar business for 40 years! As we stood in front of a one bar stool open, the bar tender gave the one seat to another couple who we walked in with us. They moved on to find two seats while I started to sit. The bartender, told the couple to take our seat. Being odd, we gave up the seat and took a table. When two seats opened, we stood and went to the open seats. The bar tender said people were waiting for these seats!? I returned to the table and told my husband that's absurd. The owners said what's the problem? I told her we were here first. She turned to the bartender and asked her and she responded that they were waiting!? The next two seats opened and she gave them to the couple with one seat that was given our seat!?Cray cray! My three piece fish arrived with two and a smig! Thin and dry! Normally, it's really good. The rest of the night will go in the books as pay attention, help those in need and do the right thing. It pays off in the long run! That other stuff ain't worth my dime! read more

Walking into Towne Tap takes me back to my childhood and time spent with family in Wisconsin. It is a hidden treasure with delicious food, hometown hospitality and quality drinks. The service is friendly and the food is fantastic. Especially love the Friday Fish Fry special! We ordered our pizza from next door. I walked into the Tap at 10:55, they open at 11. Short resting B face glared at me and announced that they don't open until 11. I said no problem we can just wait, don't rush, we just ordered our pizza. I continued to sit I saw the food menu on the table and said" wow, I didn't know you served lunch here" ( we had just discovered The Tap and Al's pizza) .... She then asked if we were ordering drinks or just soda, I said we are just going to have 2 cokes. She then "educated"me that they don't make any money if we get our pizza next door and just order soda. I stood up and said no problem we will leave and go back. Sorry to have been such a bother. I'd did say to her as leaving, just so you do know we would be out of here in a half an hour and we tip well( Retired restaurant manager here, 40 years in the business ) Last time we had our pizza in Al's we had a Coke and a beer and my husband left a 10:00 tip and we cleared our own table when done. My wife and sister in law and I went there for drinks and food 3 years ago. It was a Friday and we sat at an unreserved table, next to us was a reserved table for fish fry. My wife and sister in law put their purses on the unoccupied chair and bench next to them. The owner came up to us and asked us how many tables do you need. Very rude. Was invited by friends to meet at towne tap last night. Very small space. Every other table was marked reserved for fish fry only. If you were sitting at a table and you were not ordering fish you were asked to move. My husband ordered the perch very small pieces had a hair in it and the other piece was so disgusting he spit it out and didn't finish it. When informing the waitress of this, she shrugged her shoulders and your shoulders and said sorry, but no refund or new pieces were brought out. Decided to try out this bar while waiting 50 minutes for our pizza at Al's Pizza and found a really neat local bar to hang out. The staff, Pam and Donna were super friendly, with Donna even offering us a shot of Malort after hearing me say we'd never had it. It wasn't something we'd likely ever try again, but glad we got to try it once. We had a few drinks and the prices were reasonable, the servers were great to talk with as well as a few patrons we talked to. Donna got me hooked on bourbon on ice with a slice of lemon, it was really good. We enjoyed our date night very much and it was the first time in many months that I really let go and was relaxed after a hectic work schedule the last few years. A new favorite bar!!! read more

They don't offer much in terms of craft beer, but it's a great place to eat Al's Pizza from next door! Besides having their own entrance, there's a doorway inside that connects Al's with Towne Tap. Pitcher of domestic starts at around $9. They also offer a lunch menu M-F 11a-2p that includes burgers, sandwiches, hot dog, and soup. On Fridays they have fish fry. My son and I found ourselves in this area during Lent so I Googled "fish fries nearby" and this place came up. We live 250 miles away. When we pulled up to it I knew we had the right place because the parking lot was full. It was packed and the food looked delicious. The process of getting a table and ordering is a bit different but not hard. You just find your own table and then go to the bar to order your food and drinks. The fish is all we have had so far but they also have delicious smelling and looking pizzas. Next time we will try those. My son goes to college down there so I will most likely make the 5 hour trip down there again to see him so we can try the pizza then. read more

If you substitute alcohol for magic, opening the unassuming door in Al's Pizza labeled "Stairs" must recapture how Lucy felt opening the closet into Narnia. What I at first thought was a secret underground drinking bunker at the bottom of the stairs was packed with Warrenvillains. People who know how to distinguish between restrooms labeled "bucks" and "does" (I had to guess). Most of them were eating Al's Pizza, ignoring the Bulls game, and having lively conversations over beer. On my one visit I had a wonderful and lengthy conversation with a stranger who was a townie... exactly what Mike Royko, may he rest in peace in the great tavern in the sky, would've wanted to happen in bars across America. The Towne Tap stocks the typical mass-produced American beers, as well as bottles which look, from a distance or with drunken eyes, like they portray the likeness of Count Dracula: Franziskaner and Hacker-Pschorr. It wasn't until my way out that I noticed the much more obvious front door to the joint, which explains how people lacking my delusions of magical powers are able to find this place. read more

This bar is older and the crowd seemed to be mostly locals/regulars. If it was closer we'd definitely be regulars. We've been here several times over the past 10 years. The owner (s) in the towne tap are very hostile and angry the moment you enter On a Friday night. They demand to know If u are here for the fish fry. God forbid u want to spend money and enjoy a few drinks while waiting for a pizza. The reality is we spend triple the amount of money in the towne tap while waiting for al's pizza. We are supporting YOUR business and are treated very poorly. Totally ridiculous! moving forward, we'll only do takeout ftom Al's. Not interested in giving Towne Tap any business when treated so poorly. read more

This bar is situated in the town I grew up in; it's been around a very long time. It's a cozy, friendly local bar with decent prices and a food menu. I've eaten fish twice at their Friday night fish fry, good freshwater fish, otherwise I order pizza from my beloved Al's which is adjoining and connected by a small staircase. Al's will bring you your pizza while you wait in the towne tap. The towne tap employees are friendly and hardworking. We have enjoyed hanging at the bar and enjoying an Al's pizza and a few beers here for some time. The atmosphere is like a Wisconsin fishing bar and patrons are generally very friendly. Then comes the owner...she is INCREDIBLY over protective of her "fish fry tables" that were empty at 7:45 last night. We planned to enjoy our Al's pizza at the bar and have a few beers, but the bar was full, as were all the tables that were not designated for fish fry. We grabbed a spot at a fish fry table, figuring that with 10-15 open seats remaining for fish fry (and 45 fish fry minutes remaining), anyone needing a table would be accommodated, and if they happened to fill up, we would vacate our spot. Out of the blue comes a VERY argumentative and confrontational owner who insisted that we not sit at the empty table because they are a separate restaurant from Al's and need to reserve the table for their customers on fish fry night. We reminded her that we were buying beer from her establishment (higher profits than food in most cases) and would be happy to move if fish fry patrons arrived, but that was not enough to compensate for the fact that we were daring to eat Al's pizza at a fish fry table, and she insisted that we stand and wait for something else to open up. Luckily for us, a nice couple at the bar who had overheard our exchange (as did half of the patrons) were just leaving, which allowed us to enjoy our meal in the bar as planned. The owner then continued to try to justify her position explaining that "they've tried a lot of things and this is what works". We actually made some suggestions for her consideration such as having Al's charge 10% more for eat in pizza and give the 10% to her, etc. but her mind was made up-it was better for the fish fry tables to remain empty for the customers who might show up vs. those who were already there. Hmmm... as a result of our "customer service experience", we ordered fewer drinks than we otherwise would have, and left a less than generous tip. Incidentally, nobody came in and sat at one of the empty fish fry tables for the balance of the night. If lower sales, bad tips, and unhappy customers is "what works", I'm confused. Get a clue, lady. Without Al's you'd be out of business. You might think about trying something new. Incidentally, the pizza was FANTASTIC. read more

Its Friday please don't make me work for this. I really am too lazy to write a review especially after I've had a few beers. It's a small local bar with tons of beer and good pizza. Talk to some of the locals and old timers. You will hear a few good stories. There used to be an Irish pipe and drum band that would stop in after their practice on Wednesdays. Donna, the bartender did and EXCELLENT job of managing a lot of people. She remembered names, she remembered drink orders AND she was fun and friendly. I have to disagree with Danielle who says the Towne Tap is not the place to go to if you want atmosphere. I guess it depends on what you consider good atmosphere. The Towne Tap has the cozy atmosphere of a Wisconsin fishing bar. The patrons are friendly and I never noticed that the owner doesn't allow swearing. I actually never thought about that but I never saw anyone being told not to swear. Then again, I'm not sure I noticed anyone swearing. In any case, that's no big deal. At one time, the Town Tap was filled with 20 and 30-somethings on Friday and Saturday nights and it was almost unbearable. The guys tried to be macho and screamed so loud that it could hurt your ears. But the last couple times I went there, the young crowd was gone. Apparently, they moved on to whatever place was the new fad for them. That was fortunate because the once again has the friendly feel of a classic neighborhood bar where you will soon know everyone by name. Al's Pizza is in the same building. They make an outstanding pizza and they will deliver it to the bar for you. I rarely go to bars anymore but I keep promising myself to spend and evening at the Town Tap. I always enjoyed it when I did go. Every time I did go, with the exception of the times when it was packed with loud young people, I was soon talking with the friendly people there as if we were old friends.
