My husband picked this place based on he wanted seafood and clam chowder. The staff were friendly, and the wait wasn't too bad. From the time we walked in, to sitting at a table was about 30 minutes. Got the potato skins, which were good and the horseradish sour cream was surprisingly good, since I don't like horseradish. I can't say I enjoyed my dinner as my prime rib, I don't think was very good, and my potato was a bit undercooked. My kids each got a pizza one cheese and the other has bbq chicken pizza. Both did not care for them and didn't eat much. My husband had a seafood dish he said was okay. As for the restaurant it was clean and well taken care of. With a fish tank in the middle. read more

Great atmosphere and good seafood! This is my go to place when I wanna get out of the house and relax

I was really craving soup on a rainy night so I ordered the French onion soup and zucchini sticks for takeout. I am not from around the area so when I went to pick it up, I was confused on where to go as the building is huge with multiple entry points. I picked a door and I was told to go around through the restaurant towards the attached bake shop and what a great money making strategy. I bought candy and two pastries while I was waiting for my food. When I got home, I saw that I was given a pretty healthy portion of cheese and bread for the top of my French onion soup which was nice but by that point it was not hot enough anymore to melt despite being less than 10 min away. It was a bit disappointing but that's on me for getting French onion soup as takeout. The fried zucchini also traveled pretty badly. There was a dipping sauce that was ranch (think?) but put in a plastic container within the box that melted and made it so that the sauce got all over the fried zucchini and made everything very soggy. I just didn't like the flavor either. I would definitely not order that again even in the restaurant. It seemed like a pretty popular restaurant so I'd be willing to give it another shot inside the restaurant but wouldn't recommend ordering for pick up. Love the bakery though! I heard the fruit tart was good and my profiterole was perfectly baked, though lacking flavor on the filling which was supposed to be mango but just tasted like a plain vanilla cream. read more

I love everything about The Galley Hatch! When you walk in there is a shopping area of gifts, books, calendars, puzzles, and a tantalizing bakery! The restaurant is lovely. There are many different rooms, plus a bar/lounge area. The service is excellent whether you are in house or ordering take out. My favorite is the French Onion Soup. It is one of the best I have had in a long time! Their Prime Rib is also excellent (when they have it). Tender, tasty and comes with sides and a salad. Dad loves their burgers-they are 8 ounces and cooked the way you like. We have tried several appetizers- the whipped feta is our favorite. I can't say enough about them- you will have to try them out yourself! read more

What Happened? Had dinner recently and it was just awful. We were seated on time, and loved the spot. We dined with two other couples we regularly go out with. We always love getting together, and do at least twice a week. We were looking forward to what we thought would be a lovely meal. We were wrong. The server delivered our meals and was efficient, and that was all. My husband had a surf and turf combination of a casserole and 10oz prime rib. The casserole had a few tiny shrimp and no other seafood, and was covered in far too much breading. The prime rib was mostly fat. When the server came to collect our plates she asked if he wanted a doggy bag.... It was quite obvious he hadn't eaten a quarter of it. He said no thank you. I had a chicken dish in a bland watery sauce. The chicken tasted like rubber, seriously. So disappointing. As I mentioned, we dine out at least a couple times a week and galley hatch comes off the rotation until I've cooled on the terrible experience. read more

really love their food. the corn bread and rolls to start are great . they have the best buffalo chicken tenders. I dont know what it is but the taste is amazing. our service has pretty much always been good here. we have had maybe one "one off" experience where the food wasn't cooked and the waitress wasn't super attentive. the ambiance is great. there's a couple different sections depending on what your looking for (nice dining room, café vibe, more of a casual diner with fish tank, cozy bar area). and of course the dessert is amazing. read more

After going to the GH for years this is my opinion: 1. Great family atmosphere & local hangout place. 2. Awesome bartenders...especially Donna! 3. I took my brother to GH last evening for his birthday, an annual tradition, He ordered a broiled fishermans platter and I ordered a rueben. After waiting for what seemed like forever and watching other guests that were seated after us getting their meals the waitress came out to let us know that his meal was made blackened instead of broiled and they were now working on it..When the food finally came out the bread on the rueben was rock hard and the plate was scalding hot which told me it was left to sit under the heat lamp while they prepared the other meal and the waitress agreed so she took it back to get me another.. So I sat and watched my brother eat his meal which was boiled not broiled while I waited..he was about halfway done when I got my sandwich so after he finished I packed up my meal and we left rather than have him wait till I finished. You would think at a time where people are relying on reviews from Yelp and Google that a seacoast icon would try better to make good for there customers. I used to really enjoy this place, but the quality and service have gone downhill. They removed the buffalo chicken sandwich from the menu, even though they still serve chicken tenders with the same sauce. When I asked if they could make a sandwich using those ingredients, they refused which was disappointing and unnecessary. For the prices they charge, the value and customer service just don't measure up anymore. Unfortunately, I won't be returning and can't recommend this place as I once did. read more

We landed in the room to the left, which was a total bonus because this restaurant had a cruise ship vibe going on. We swung by for a late drink and lunch because, priorities. We both went all in on the sweet summertime cherry lemonade, aka the drunkin delight. We kicked things off with the French onion soup, which was a total hit. I mean, absolutely delicious. For lunch, I opted for the California sandwich, because turkey, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and cheese with fries is the answer to all of life's questions. Have driven by this place for years & years and I honestly thought it was a new place taken over recently only to find out its been the same & they just changed somethings around (sign out front, and a slight reno) Whenever Mom and I are out driving around looking for food we always end up at the same spots, so we decided this time to just pull in, I didnt even tell her where we were going I just pulled in. I might have slightly felt underdressed (I had on mom sweats that day - not house ones, but just casual ones) The place is nice, the atmosphere is nice, It was around 2-3 when we got there & everyone there was slightly of the older generation! Menu had many options, was torn on what to do, were we there for apps & drinks, did we want a full meal, what to do?! We got a bunch of apps, a pizza and some drinks, and bread (Im all about unnecessary carbs) Apps were ok, Mussels were TINY - no fault of theirs, just might have been better if there was something to them. Calamari was good. The pizza although hesitant at first (Shrimp with Red sauce) was rather tasty I put my card down on the table & expected the bill, instead he ran the bill and then gave me back the CC receipt, we paid $98 for 2 apps, 2 drinks & Pizza, I have since gone back in & tried to do the math based on the menu and that is WAY OFF, Unless the drinks were $25 each, I didnt realize until after we had walked out, So for $98 it wasnt somewhere I would run back to, However it was good, Next time I might just pay closer attention, but writing this has me back in the 'What the hell was $98" zone!! read more

Popped in as a group for lunch yesterday. Had a nice hostess and server that was very accommodating. Thank you! We ordered mussels & an app of warm feta dip to start. Both were hits. I dont enjoy seafood but the other 3 at the table ate every single mussel and there were a ton. I had some bread from the mussels order and it was soft and delishhh. The warm feta dip is amazing but i think they used to serve it with more pita. They still give a bunch of minced olives and diced tomatoes. Excellent. I ordered a bowl of french onion that was great but the bowl wasnt impressive in volume. The cheese ratio was high and the crout was great but i kind of wish 10-11$ bowl of french onion was bigger than a coffee cups volume. I also ordered a large greek salad with regular dressing and a side of red wine vinaigrette. Both were so good but i may even like the red wine vin more. The combo going back and forth between bites is A+. I asked for an absurd amount of pepperoncinis and i think i ended up with 13. Thank you so much Chef!!! The feta ratio is great too. My gf ordered a large greek salad 12$ or so and a chicken breast for additional 8$. The piece of chicken is usually so small that i personally dont add it to my salad. Its about 3-4 bites and she was kind of let down however she LOVES the rest of the salad. Her salad had 5 or so pepperoncinis on hers and her chicken was probably more like 7 bites worth. Neither of us finished the salad, its not crazy big but they are above average in size. Her son ordered the baron? Sandwich and LOVED it. It was under the medium he ordered and he still LOVED it. His gf got garlic chicken tenders and she thought they were fine. We all agreed they looked too uniform to be made in house but maybe we are wrong. She thought they were better in previous visits. Overall this is an awesome place on a summer day. The AC was ice cold and there is plenty of seating. Dont even get me started on Kays kafe/bakery in the same building. So good! read more

Every time we drive by this place it's full so we decided to give it a try this past weekend. Really cool atmosphere with multiple rooms and a fun fish tank in the middle of the restaurant- my two year old loved seeing "dory"- ha. Love the fresh bakery items and cafe when you walk in - service was really good. Three stars because where we were seated (back booths against window with a view of the bar) it seemed to be totally infested with flies. I'm talking at least 10 flies were buzzing around us landing on our food and table the whole time. Totally understandable that some things you can't control but it was pretty disturbing and made the whole experience feel icky. Food was nothing to write home about. Huge menu so maybe we caught it on an off day? Not sure if be rushing back due to our experience. Always support local and give it a shot! read more

While we frequently dine at Tino's (restaurant on second level), we have not been to the Galley Hatch in some time. It was nice to see and be seated in the new outside deck, which was recently added. The menu here is large and there is something for everyone. There are some hits and misses, but overall the food is good. Service is friendly and the food arrived from the kitchen quickly. We found our cocktails to be good, and potent as well. We saw Empanadas on the menu as an appetizer, and they were quite good. The dough was delicious and contained a very moist beef filling, which reminded me of a taco. We also tried a burger, which was massive at a half pound and easily shareable. While the burger was good, the fries were cold and soggy. I'm very fussy about fries, but I think most people would have been unhappy with these. My wife enjoyed her fried haddock sandwich with onion rings, which were far better than the fries. Dessert's are good here, in addition to the offerings on the menu, there is a bakery case in the lobby with many additional selections. Give them a try. read more

Way over priced for what you get. Almost $20 for a steak and cheese sandwich (I wouldn't even call it a sub because it was so small) and it was covered with mozzarella cheese. It was so hard to eat I wish I sent it back!!! But live and learn! I won't be back! I can get a huge steak and cheese at market basket for $8! I am so tired of disappointed when I go out to eat and I'm not even a picky person! Mozzarella on a steak and cheese had absolutely no flavor!!! $80 for two sandwiches and cup of soup and two cokes. We've been coming here for four years. In my families opinion our favorite restaurant in area. Yes the menu is big. We tried all different types of food. Haddock was really good. This restaurant came highly recommended by hotel staff at Hampton Beach & they were right on the beach but their restaurant had a long wait due to the crowd & convention folk during the Halloween weekend. The wait was made more pleasant by the fantastic hostesses who were funny and helpful. Wish I'd gotten photos of the princesses, villains and superheroes. While waiting I bought a few things in the bakery/ gift shop, including some coffee from a small company headquartered nearby. Dinner was delicious. It was made more special by sharing an experience with my 3 new friends. We ordered large quantities of food... it was great to share in the Seafood platter and Fisherman's platter. We enjoyed every morsel of shrimp, scallops, haddock... and more. The sides were great (two servings of mashed potatoes so there was enough to go around). Oh man, I'm just happy that we didn't pass this opportunity up, and that our hotel friends didn't steer us wrong. There is a reason this place gets great reviews. read more

I went in for a bowl of chili to go. I asked for tortilla chips and sour cream and was told it was included. I was told it would be 10 minutes. 20 minutes later I asked if it would be much longer and they said they would check on it. 10 minutes later I asked for my money back and to cancel the order. They apologized and checked again. Finally received the order. It was good - no sour cream though. Just way too long of a wait regardless of the reason. My wife and I ate here with another couple as part of a wedding event. Our reservations were honored and we were seated on time. We all ordered a few drinks, the toffee tide martini was delicious! The food entrees were good, large generous portions. Side veggie of broccoli and mashed potatoes barely warm. I'm giving the review only three stars mainly due to our waitress. She should have not come to work this day. The most unfriendly person, exhibited a very stern attitude and never once smiled. She only checked on the table once. I have been going to the Galley Hatch for 20 years at least. I really enjoy the vibe of the restaurant. It's beautiful inside! The food can be inconsistent, but overall good. I enjoy their chowder & salmon plank dinner. Food is New England style in that it's pretty simple, but nicely prepared. The service is VERY inconsistent. I can have an overly attentive server, to last night when my food was aggressively served to me! The server never checked up on us once. The restaurant did fill up quick with large parties, so my table of my mom and I were forgotten. It's too bad, as I was ant to be able to go and trust that the restaurant will be consistent, but it's not. I'm going to stop going there for dinner and only go for lunch, when service is better. read more

Had dinner there Saturday with family and the food was delicious, perfectly prepared. The service was five star and the drinks were refreshing. The reason I gave only 3 stars is I believe they discriminate the elderly and young children. We were seated on the right front of the restaurant where all the elderly folks, the three of us are elderly and families with young children. The noise was over the top, my sister is hard of hearing so we couldn't have a conversation. I won't go back. If you decide to go and you are elderly be sure to specify that you want to be seated in the newly remodeled section, with the younger folk's. read more

I'm truly upset with the dinner my husband received yesterday. He used to order the Chicken Kabobs a ton in the past and last night we both thought we'd get take out. He opens his container and sees one Kabob snapped in half to look like two... this is less food than what they used to make. He was still hungry afterwards. Great food, atmosphere and ambiance. The Galley Hatch has been around a long time. NOT a discount place! You will spend a lot of money eating here but for the most part it is worth the price that you pay. Great drinks. My go to plan is always the bread and butter, clam chowder which is excellent and then one of their unique and delicious filet mignon. One issue that I have is that the lobster roll that has been on the Specials menu is quite minute and a tourist trap rip off. I understand about this . All restaurants have similar practices. If you get the lobster roll on the special menu you had better order another entree to satisfy your hunger. The service has always been above board. Recommended. read more
