My wife and I are big fans of Cajun food. The problem with living around here is there are no authentic Cajun restaurants around. That is until now. The folks at Ginger and Clove now have a Cajun menu for Thursday through Sunday. Let me tell you it's the real stuff. For an appetizer I ordered a bowl of seafood gumbo. Great gumbo is about the roux. It has to be right so it's flavorful and adds thickness. These folks nailed it. I could tell once it was set on the table. This gumbo was full of seafood and the holy trinity and packed with flavor and heat. This bowl was as good as any I've had. My wife had the pasta zydeco and I the tchoupitoulis. Both dishes hit the mark. Wonderful blend of flavors. Servings are very big so bring your appetite. We finished the meal with beignets. Those things are addictive. What's better than fried dough with Carmel sauce. Service was right on. In fact the chef came out twice to see how we enjoyed our food. It's obvious they have pride in their food and take pleasure seeing how customers are enjoying their food. We can't wait to go back. read more

We have come here for breakfast several times over the past year and I usually got the banana Foster on French toast until I started to receive less and less bananas, with the last time only getting 2 banana slices and they were not caramelized at all. Today I opted to have a full stack of regular French toast. The French toast was o.k. (2.5/5) and the service was a .5/5. The waitress, Rosemary, was very abrupt and unfriendly from the start. After eating a couple pieces of my French toast I noticed a hair on my plate. When I brought it to her attention she grabbed my plate, briskly walked off, and returned with our check, despite the fact that she walked off with more than half my food on the plate. I noticed that she removed $5.56 from our bill but never said anything to us. She never apologized, asked if I wanted something else, or discussed compensation. I have worked at a diner for many years and this is not how any of the staff would treat a patron and it's not how any patron should be treated at any restaurant. After my experience today I will not be returning. read more

Outstanding coffee to get me going. Flavor incredible using Blue Harbor Coffee Co. . The sausage party and egg over easy accompanied by hash browns and toast- spot on. My partner in crime had the cali omelette hash brown and toast. We both said A plus also grade given to waitress. Only regret not getting their homemade corn bread. This was my second visit to Ginger & Clove, and it is a welcome addition to the Hampton area. I don't usually do breakfast out very much, but every so often it appeals to me. As others have mentioned, this is a bit more elevated than a typical diner. Service is friendly and competent and the restaurant is spotlessly clean. I tried a pancake, and it was giant, I was only able to eat half. It was a good pancake, but I prefer a lighter and fluffier style. We also ordered biscuits and gravy, which tasted great, and again a very very large portion. The classic bacon, eggs and toast also a very large and tasty portion. Had breakfast there this morning. It was not busy. Two of the breakfasts were not good. The ham on my breakfast sandwich was not chewable. It was nothing but gristle. Eggs Benedict are served with a hollandaise sauce. Was hard pressed to find any and when asked for more I was charged $2.50 for less than an ounce. Very disappointed. Will not go back or recommend to anyone. Sub quality food and nasty waitperson. read more

Our friends shared a breakfast wrap also with hash browns. The wife's both got some tasty Bloody Mary's. The guys stuck with some good morning joe. Met my daughter & her two kiddos for brunch at Ginger and Clove the other day. Very nice restaurant. Plenty of seating, mostly low tables and chairs, but some tables with booth seating. There was a high chair for the one year old baby. Booster seats are available, as well. Our server Angelica, was friendly and attentive. She interacted with all of us, particularly the kids. I ordered a Florentine Benedict with a side of grits-absolutely delicious. My daughter got a build your own omelette with mushrooms and black beans. She ate all of it with lots of help from the baby! My 3 year old got the kids Mac n Cheese (Kraft) and a side of fresh fruit (which was a generous size) that disappeared quickly with help from her brother. The bathrooms are clean. There is ample parking. Conveniently located on Lafayette Rd. in Hampton. Recommended without hesitation. read more

My family came here for breakfast for the first time. It was very cold inside. My entire family was cold so it wasn't just me. I checked and the thermostat was set to 69 degrees. I asked if there was any way to please make it warmer and the server said they are not allowed to touch the thermostat. I asked if there was a manager or someone else who is allowed to touch the thermostat and the server said no. I mentioned the thermostat was set to 69 in case it was some kind of mistake and he said it has been this way for the past four years. It would have been so simple to just change it to 70 or 71 degrees to help a little but the server was unwilling to even ask about it. Apparently they have been told not to ever make it any warmer and he was not even going to entertain the thought of it. The bacon was overcooked. The breakfast potatoes were not very good. The rest of the food and service were both good but I probably won't bring my family here again. Maybe the breakfast menu is better...pictures of the waffles etc look great...but...I had a very overpriced, wilted salad. The iceberg lettuce( I would recommend fresh mixed greens) was wet and wilted. The corn was rubbery...certainly not fresh; the chicken was just thrown on the grill to warm, small amount and not very seasoned. The dressing was supposed to be sriracha ranch but it tasted like the sriracha was mixed with blue cheese...which I don't care for. The staff was very pleasant and I would love to see them succeed but they will definitely need to at least improve their salads. read more
