Found this place on our morning drive from Maine to Boston. It's kind of a hidden gem type spot. Breakfast was delicious, especially the blueberry pancake, which also contained raspberries, balancing sweet & tart flavors- unexpected, but very good! Everything else was good as well. read more

Small space with a big heart: Breakfast is always delicious. The server made sure my coffee was hot and filled. There's a small but busy counter section perfect if you're a party of one or two. If they have the Korean BBQ eggs benedict on special I recommend trying the dish. If you're more of a sweet tooth then give the stuffed french toast a try. A local hole in the wall tucked away in downtown Hampton. The menu is simple fairly priced and everything is made to order. Staff are friendly service was quick and we did not wait long for the food to arrive. Great selection of toast and pastries. No frills but worth a visit. This place is horrible. First of all it is so dirty. If you ever want to know if you should eat somewhere, use their bathroom first. if it's gross, you can be sure the rest of it including the kitchen is too. I ordered a an egg sandwich with home fries. the few potatoes i received were awful, i took one bite, no seasoning. The sandwich looked terrible, didn't even grill the english muffin, or toast it. so cold, boring muffin. My coffee was barely warm, I took 2 sips. I asked for a to go box, and mentioned, how dirty the place was, and the cold coffee. $3.00 for a cup of coffee. Wow, I wasted 12.00 for this mess, the sandwich was fed to the seagulls. I'm reluctant to write this because I feel sorry for the one cook handling the grill. Something had to be wrong, either with him or the equipment. Perhaps this was just an off day, but our breakfast experience was miserable. Four of us -- two adults, two teens. Order was nothing elaborate or special -- omelettes, eggs and muffins. It took a very long time for the first dish to arrive, and this was with just three other parties amounting to six people plus us in the place. Once the first dish arrived, we waited another long time and a second dish arrived. Same with third and fourth of our orders. We could not believe that the cook was preparing these one at a time. I still can't believe it. Service isn't worth mentioning. No visits to inquire if things were OK, more coffee, etc. When we asked if there was a holdup, the short answer was "No." The physical building, rest rooms, and the decor is depressing. Worn, less than a clean appearance and definitely not up to any remotely modern standard. If the food was great and arrived in a reasonable time we could accept the beaten up building. But, honestly, nothing was worth recommending. Sorry, Hoaty's. I don't like to leave bad reviews. read more

CASH ONLY We came across Hoaty's by happy accident with the help of Yelp. Super yummy breakfast and very friendly staff. The pork hash (similar to CB hash, but with pulled pork) was a unique and excellent dish. My husband I had our eggs cooked differently and both were perfect. The home fries are hand cut and homemade. Found this place in a pinch leaving Hampton beach. I cannot explain how nice and welcoming this restaurant is. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left it felt like we were regulars or friends. The food was delicious. The waitress was amazing the restaurant was super clean and the whole time there was a woman (maybe the owner?) was walking around cleaning and Re-cleaning The tables like it was her own dining room. My husband and I were driving home from Maine to PA and ended up googling "best breakfast near me." We found Hoaty's and are SO happy we did. The place doesn't look much from the outside, but give it a try. You walk in and feel instantly at home like you are in someone's kitchen sitting with friends waiting for a home cooked breakfast. It smells wonderful! It's very homey, not at all fancy, not new and modern, but so comfortable. I ordered the eggs benny (eggs benedict)... I have to say it was the tastiest eggs benedict I've ever eaten. Served with nice home fries. The hollandaise sauce was so smooth and creamy and the poached eggs were perfectly runny with soft but cooked whites. Even the ham was really great quality ham. My husband had the ... d*mn, can't remember the name of the dish... something hash. It was corned beef hash with scrambled eggs on top with melted American cheese on top of the eggs. He absolutely loved it! Also, the server was really sweet and funny and friendly. The owner walks around chatting with everyone and is so sweet. Enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Hoaty's this morning. Ordered the Cheesey Smash( scrambled eggs with American cheese over Corned beef Hash with Seasoned crispy homefries and two slices of wheat toast. Portion size is not too large so I wasn't uncomfortable when I finished. The restaurant is cozy and very clean. The prices fit well into my budget. Under 11.00 for my meal. Staff is very friendly and personable. Entrance is in the rear with plenty of parking, handicap accessible. Next time I go I'm getting the Stuffed French Toast. It looked delicious. Unpretentious, little hole-in-the-wall, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and relatively quiet. Limited menu, but fresh ingredients and clean dishes (not oily, not too many spices). Hoaty's is a popular local breakfast and lunch place in Hampton Village with plenty of regular customers here. There's a parking lot in back of the building with entrance to the restaurant. The dining room is cozy which has an open kitchen/grill area with counter seating, tables, and booths. Laminated menus, silverware/napkins and Hunts Ketchup bottles already at each table. There are newspapers for reading available in the dining room. The breakfast menu offerings feature egg dishes, 3 egg omelets, pancakes, French toast, breakfast sandwiches muffins, cinnamon sour cream coffee cake & sides. For Kids Only menu is offered here too. The lunch menu features burgers and sandwiches served with chips & pickle. The prices here are pretty reasonable, most dishes priced $2.75-$7.25. Blackboard specials are offered here including seafood chowder to go. I arrived here around high noon for a late Saturday breakfast. I sat myself at an open table and the waitress was prompt in offering me a drink. For breakfast, I ordered the Veggie Omelet (w/o cheese) - choose 3 veggies ($4.95) served with homefries and toast. The food was served hot and fresh in about 10 minutes. The Veggie Omelet was BIG taking up most of the plate and shaped like the State of NH, which was a folded egg filled with lots of fresh spinach, broccoli, and fresh sliced mushrooms. The homefries were fresh cut potatoes, lightly grilled and seasoned and slightly oily. The wheat toast was firm and buttered. The check for my breakfast with an ice water came out to $5.40 with tax/before tip. Overall, a good tasty and filling breakfast with good service. I also know that Hoaty's is popular with postal workers since as I was leaving, a group of postal workers were filing in here to eat around 12:30 PM for their break. As I exited, there were 5 USPS mail trucks parked around my vehicle. This sort of reminded me of another popular breakfast place in Holderness with plenty of orange highway trucks in the parking lot. Simple and unassuming exterior did not prepare me for the clean, friendly environment. We were warmly greeted and allowed to pick our own table. The menu was big enough with additional breakfast specials on the wall. We ordered eggs, omelette and apple muffins. Eggs were light and fresh. Omelette was full of perfectly cooked veggies. The muffin was to die for and grilled to perfection. We ordered a fruit cup and the strawberries and blueberries were obviously local and full of flavor. Price was very fair. This is an awesome Mom and Pop style breakfast place. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Great place for breakfast hands down. They do breakfast and lunch. Menu is limited but everything that you order is fresh and delicious. They have omelets, sandwiches, burgers, muffins, and cupcakes. Everything is delicious. The staff are very nice and friendly. Another year heading up to Maine from CT and another year we just had to make a stop for breakfast! Staff is lovely, down to earth and caring while the food is exceptional and has that "home cooked" taste. Give the "Mom must be proud" a go, but change up the pancakes for their crazy good French toast (dads special). It's what my SO and I just have to get even if it's not on the menu. First, this is a dated review... The last time I was in Hoaty's was 1987 when they were behind the duplex my newlywed wife and I rented on Tower Drive. We'd get up Sunday mornings and walk through the backyard to have coffee and home fries and what ever other delectable we'd choose from. The food and atmosphere were warm and welcoming. Judging from the other, more recent comments, that hasn't changed. I'm returning to NH for a much needed refresher in the fall weather lifestyle after being back in south Louisiana for these past 30+ years. This review is for the tourists searching for breakfast. You're looking for Yelp help. Opening disclosure: I very rarely give a restaurant 5 stars. I give 4 stars for places that I'm a fan of, the kind of restaurant where I was pleased with the overall experience and can't complain. Additionally I've known Pam and Gary for many years (outside of the restaurant) and therefor I felt I was biased and haven't felt it was appropriate to review Hoaty's. However after reading some of the reviews I thought it might be useful to add another perspective? First off, Hoaty's is a towny restaurant. 80% of the people in there know each other. The locals go there for the social aspect as much as the food. If you are a local, odds are you love this place. If you are not a local you might not see the attraction. Hoaty's is cash only, but not very expensive. As for the food, if you are going to Hoaty's for the first time I recommend you get the French toast. Their French toast is the best on the sea coast in my opinion, and I've had breakfast pretty much every where on NH sea coast. The omelets are pretty good and Gary sometimes has an egg Bennie special worth considering. For a first timer, I say French toast (Dad would be proud, if you're really hungry) is the best choice. The majority of the menu is your standard breakfast fare. Consider who their customer base is and you understand the menu. I for one hope they never change. If you are looking for something fancy or dare I say "healthy", than Hoaty's might not be your cup of tea. That being said, few if any breakfast joints in the greater Hampton area serve anything radically different, menu wise. If you're looking for a working mans breakfast, this is the best choice in Hampton. read more

I was part of the clean plate club. It was touch and go there for a minute, but in the end, I WON! There was a bit of a wait to get in, but it was either Saturday or Sunday around 11-ish when we were trying to eat brunch, party of 4. No surprise that we had to wait a bit... It's a bit stuffy in the hallway, and if it hadn't been so friggin hot in the parking lot, I would've hoped they did numbers, and then come out and call you when your table was ready. There is an ATM at the front (back, really) door, which if you don't carry a lot of cash, is a lifesaver for the under-caffienated ones in your party (ahem-Julia!) They make really good french toast. I ate ALL OF IT. I liked the eggs, they made them just as I asked them to. The homefries were good. I could've done with a bit of hotsauce, but I was so hungry that I just dove in, without trying to attract the attention of the waitress again. If I go back, I will stifle my hunger pangs just long enough to ask if the coffee bread has nuts in it. It looks divine, and sits up on the countertop practically begging to be eaten... read more

When I first walked in I was a little caught off guard by the decoration, coming from all the fancy restaurants in San Diego the mom and pop type shop wasn't my usual cup of tea. But my initial judgement of the place based on it's appearance was proved wrong. The food was terrific. The staff was super friendly. My mom kept saying that everything she ordered was the best thing ever. And when the staff found out that my husband was on the naval boat that just arrived here, they gave us their last sign welcoming them. It was so sweet. cute local place for a great breakfast. everyone in the restaurant seemed to be a regular probably because the waitresses and staff treat everyone that way. the food is classic breakfast stuff with the BEST TEXAS TOAST i have ever had. this piece of bread was about 2 inches thick and toasted and buttered to perfection. crispy and buttered on the surface and soft and fluffy in the middle. to be honest i don't remember much else about our meals because the toast just blew everything out of the water. i would definitely go back just to eat this piece of bread again. read more

Whenever I see so many 5-star reviews, I immediately get suspicious -- that's just the way I'm wired up. But this is the real deal. The food is always fresh, the specials interesting and the owners Gary and Pam are as friendly as many other reviewers have pointed out. The place is decently sized for weekdays, though I'm sure it's a bit of a wait on the weekends -- a testament to Hoaty's success. Hands down, the best place in town for breakfast, and perhaps lunch. The menu is right-sized -- diners aren't confronted with the Brobdingnagian mess one typically encounters at breakfast places -- and includes high-quality standard American breakfast fare (omelets, pancakes and the like). No deep fryer means no french fries -- the only possible quibble. Still, I lived and worked in and around Hampton more than a decade ago, and Hoaty's was my favorite place then. Until recently, I was working in Hampton again and Hoaty's remained my favorite spot. read more
