Stopped into Steve's when I was craving some real breakfast food. Service was quick and super friendly, and the service did not disappoint.

We tried this restaurant, for the first time, on a Saturday morning. The food was awful and we won't be back. The pancakes had a strange bitter taste. I could only think that maybe it was the grill that they cooked it on transferred something into it or maybe it's just terrible batter. I have never tasted pancakes that tasted bitter. The syrup was no better. My companions had meals that included eggs, hash, potatoes, meat, toast and they did not like the taste at all. We think the bad taste must be coming from whatever they grease the griddle with. One companion said the food "sucked" which is sad bc we enjoy diners and breakfast foods. Great, huge chocolate pancakes! Chocolate milk was given as a bottle of nesquik lol. The ambiance/decor is definitely dated, one TV in the corner is very small. Lots of booths. We have been enjoying Steve's for over 2 years. It's probably the best diner breakfast we have found in the area. Their House Special breakfast is a perfect combo of everything. Their omelette's are great, breakfast sandwiches are delicious, and coffee is great too. Service is always friendly! I've been coming here for months now and I've never been disappointed. Great variety of quality and tasty food. California Benedict and the gyro plate are my favorite but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The waitresses are always very attentive and polite. I got one of them freaking out when told her: I don't know what you guys use in your benedict but my tooth just broke and fell out! Of course, I was just joking because my tooth indeed broke and half of it fell out 3 weeks ago and now the other half came out but not because of their food. Found this place completely by accident. On our way to Acadia National Park and we wanted a place to sit down for breakfast. Stumbled on Steve's Diner and are we ever glad we did! Food was great and very reasonably priced. Service was excellent, as well. I got the Philly Cheesesteak Benedict, just to try something different and I loved it. It will be a shame I can't get that again when I'm back home in Florida. My daughter got the breakfast burrito. I took a couple bites of hers and thought, well, maybe I should have gotten the burrito, instead. Both very good. Son got the corned beef hash and he loved it. read more

Oh my gosh, this diner is AMAZING. If you're looking for a diner experience and diner food, this is exactly what you're looking for. My only criticism is that the pancakes are as big as my head, so I probably wouldn't have ordered two had I known. The good news is that my mom has leftovers now! Our server was Rachel, and we cannot say enough wonderful things about her; she was helpful, pleasant, and attentive but not hovering. Been a long time since I stopped in although I was once a regular. This Wednesday I decided to catch up. Big signboard clearly states open until 2 p.m. I enter at 1:40 or so and immediately a server appears who says simply, "We're closed." I say, "But it says open until 2." She replies, "Kitchen closes at 1:45." She gestures out back and says "See, nobody in the kitchen." I don't know about you, but I find that really annoying (and wrong.) Sign should say "We all want to get out of here at 2 so we start clean-up and close at 1:45." I realize it's bad form to walk in right at closing and expect cheery faces, but I think 15 minutes before closing is a reasonable grace period. I believe most short-order eateries honor the customer right up until their advertised closing time. What's your experience? read more

While this place won't be confused by a more posh breakfast eatery in Boston or Los Angeles ( you won't find avocado toast here) given its location Steves is great! I'm on a roll for negatives today. This is not about an employee. It's about a clean place. My GF & I wanted nothing but breakfast & we were unaware of the time. We walked into Steve's & we are too late. After walking out we were thankful because to say it simply, it looked dumpity dirty! Maybe we dodged a bullet!I don't know. It needs a renovation. It's been there 4ever. It must be pulling in some $$ to maintain in expensive Exeter. I have eaten here before & I was grossed out by the ketchup bottle caps. Ketchups get married from 1 to another bottle, it's gross in the summer heat. Using the little bottles, throw away & recycle them! The waitress was cool & the cook apologized for not being able to get us breakfast. So that was nice. It needs a renovation! That's all I got to say about that!! read more

I tried the $5 special, which was pretty much two pieces of french toast, and a couple of strips of bacon. With regular coffee, I was still hungry. I wound up ordering an additional side of hash browns, which I found to be okay as well. While the prices seemed to be a bit lower than any IHOP, Denny's or Cracker Barrel, I would certainly give Steve's another chance. Yet if you come in expecting large portion sizes for breakfast, you may walk out slightly hungry still. Altogether, not a bad place. read more

I had onion rings and my friend had the fries. We both preferred the rings. Gyro meat was well seasoned and a good portion. Not sure it's made on site, but my friend frequently travels to Greece; he said it tasted authentic. Neither of us had room for dessert, even though I have a weakness for baklava. We went for breakfast and it didn't start off too well. We didn't know whether someone would seat us or not so after standing around for a minute or two, we sat down. One waitress told us that another one would take care of us and it took her a while to get to us. Once she got to the table, it got better. Here are the highlights: The coffee was much better than the usual New England diner Bunn coffee. We ordered quickly and easily, and we got exactly what we ordered. The waffles are made in a waffle iron, the corned beef hash doesn't taste like the standard canned stuff, and the omelets are big and delicious. Things that I didn't love so much: The tables are too close together, and I wish we had been able to get a booth. They use Vermont Maid syrup which is HFCS, water, and chemicals. And like most New England breakfast places, you can't get hash browns. The home fries were better than most but in the Northeast, we just can't seem to do hash browns up here. The good points far outweigh the bad, and the other reviews make me think that I'd enjoy dinner if I was in the area at night. As a breakfast place, I didn't get the friendly family vibe that I get from Rogan's but I still liked it enough that I look forward to going back. And they've done a nice job turning the closed Pizza Hut into a distinctive restaurant with the feel of a diner. One other reviewer mentioned price. We had two breakfasts and two cups of coffee, and the check was $19 and change. This is about what we pay anywhere else so I didn't find them to be uncompetitive. read more

I will try not to be too cruel. First off, it's freezing in here and it took numerous people to complain before they turned the heat on and turn the a/c off. The staff is very friendly, but the food was mediocre at best. I ordered scrambled eggs, sausage links, homefries and toast. The eggs were runny and cool. The rest were delicious but very small/tiny sized portions. My wife ordered a tuna melt and she said that it tasted dry. She wasn't satisfied either. Unfortunately, we will both be stopping in at the neighboring McDonald's in order to bridge the gap and get decent food. For the price paid and the service/product received, this will be our first and last time dining here. read more
