We stopped here for lunch on the way out of Hampton Beach. There's a large parking lot with a 10$ fee. The female parking attendant isn't very accommodating. She will not admit there are picnic tables to dine and is pretty stern when explaining the time limit is a brief 30 mins. But don't allow these items to deter you from the amazing food. I ordered a bowl of lobster bisque a hot lobster roll with chips and a massive lobster Mac and cheese to go. The Mac and cheese was unreal, so creamy loads of lobster chunks for 20$ I swear it weighed 5 pounds! The rolls were 5 stars. The hot butter didn't over saturate the rolls and they stayed together for each bite. The lobster was sweet fresh just wow. I am very pleased we tried a new spot in NH for lobster read more

I just wanted to leave a quick review because I had never stopped here before, and I really liked it! The young adults working there were so friendly and kind. Even with a line out the door, they had a great system in place and the service was surprisingly quick. They even refilled the water bowl for my dog and gave her some love, which I really appreciated. The lobster roll was extremely buttery, just the way I like it, and the roll was grilled to perfection. There wasn't quite as much lobster meat as I would have expected for the price, but what was there was absolutely delicious. I've also heard that I need to try the chowder, so that will definitely be on my list for next time. Taking my food outside and sitting at the picnic tables while watching the harbor was fantastic. And the free parking was definitely a bonus! Overall, a really nice first experience. I'll be back! read more

The views are amazing, and I have to give credit where it's due the staff was professional and friendly and the customer service was excellent. Unfortunately, the food really missed the mark. The regular chowder was not hot and was lacking flavor. The fluffy chowder was also not hot. The lobster in the fluffy chowder was actually cooked well, but again, there just wasn't enough flavor. The clam chowder was cold, which is honestly a sin when it comes to chowder. It did have some nice, big clams, so I'll give it a 4/10 for that. Unfortunately, the foundation lacked flavor and the clams were overcooked. The lobster rolls were the biggest disappointment. The lobster claw meat was about five minutes overcooked, and overcooked lobster is whack. The bun also completely disintegrated, which made the roll very difficult to eat. 3/10. For what we paid, I expected much better execution. The seafood was consistently overcooked, the chowder wasn't served hot, and the flavors just weren't there. The good: Amazing views and genuinely friendly staff. The bad: Cold chowder, overcooked clams and lobster, bland flavor, and a bun that fell apart. I really wanted to love this place, but the food needs some serious improvement. The customer service was amazing, though. Food: 3/10 Service: 9/10 Views: 10/10 read more

I've lived near this spot for years and years yet for some reason I've never gone. What the heck! While I'm kicking myself for not coming earlier, I am now very happy that I know this spot is perfect in every way! So I got the hot lobster roll and my boyfriend got the cold lobster roll (not pictured sadly). Personally, I prefer a warm buttery roll, but he loved his cold roll and said it was perfectly seasoned. You get a good amount of lobster and it's $30. The line... omg it was out the door and soooo long. But trust me. Stay! It's worth it. And they move super fast. The pricing overall was really good. We also got the lobster bisque which had chunks of lobster in it (I dipped my roll in it and it was magic). Only $10! And a good portion. But they have all sorts of things--Mac and cheese, shrimp cocktail, steamers... and next door you can get fresh seafood as well. This is seafood heaven. And again, I was content with the price for quality food. Now let me quickly talk about the view because that was awesome. We sat outside and watched the ocean because it's at Rye Harbor (as the name suggests). It's so relaxing. Especially on a beautiful day. Here's the one thing you may be iffy on. $10 to pay for parking for the day. 30 minutes free. If you think you can do it all in 30 minutes, go for it. But we didn't want to rush so we paid $10 for parking which is kind of eh. But I get it because the whale watch leaves from the harbor. A minor thing to know, but not something to deter you from coming. Though if you don't come... that's more lobster rolls for me! read more

Had a lobster roll and the fluffy chowder - such a good lil spot. Food was very fresh and the roll felt like it had a whole lobster stuffed in it. Parking is free if you take it and leave or 10 dollars if you want to sit by the water. read more

Local here.... Don't go anywhere else. The lobster roll is so much more generous, and tastier, than places like the Beach Plum. The fluffy lobster bisque is $9.95 and enough for a small lunch. The mesquite salad is $14.95 and packed tight. Parking is free for 30 minutes, they have nice benches when you turn right out of the shack. read more

We had the fluffy chowder, a cold lobster roll, and the lobster Mac and cheese. All of it was incredible. There was so much lobster in the chowder and the Mac and cheese. Still had about 1/2 the chowder and Mac and cheese to bring home. read more

Hands down the best lobster rolls and clam chowder in the area!! Not really a sit in place. A take out spot where you can bring your food to picnic tables near the water and eat them there. What a great spot to get your reasonable priced lobster rolls. I would also recommend getting 1-2 lbs of steamers. read more

Fluffy chowder - something to dream about I think there is possibly the meat of 2 lobsters sitting on top of the chowder. Delicious! read more

When there 9-25-26 at 1:00 pm. They where closed. Web site said they where open ! Sign on the door with there hours said they should have been open. But they where not. Drove a hour. Was really disappointed seeing it was my wife's birthday and this is what she wanted for lunch. read more

The food was amazing! The clam chowder was spectacular paired with the lobster grilled cheese. So good!

We live in the area but didn't know about this hidden gem until reading about it in Yankee Magazine! I was curious to try the "fluffy" clam chowder. They were busy but we managed to sneak our order in right before closing on a Sunday night. The chowder is rich, and loaded with seafood, and came with oyster crackers ($10 for a cup). My husband got a cold lobster roll (light dressing, chunks of raw celery). I got a hot buttered one, which I thought would have a stronger sherry flavor. But both came with chips, had toasted buns, were loaded with meat, and delicious ($30 each). Lots of friendly young people were working franticly to take and serve the orders. Bottled drinks available for purchase, as well as fresh seafood. There is a large parking lot right next to the shack, and picnic tables to eat at near the harbor. read more

Just had a most delicious lunch from Rye Harbor Lobster Pound. Went with my daughter and her baby. We each got Cold Rolls. These sandwiches were packed with lobster meat and served on a buttered toasted roll. Amanda also got a bowl of Fluffy Chowder. We're not really sure what made it fluffy, but she said it was nice and creamy and had a bunch of lobster in it. I got a bowl of Cole Slaw that was very good (I'm pretty picky when it comes to slaw). The roll comes with a small bag of Lays potato chips. Ordering is easy. Go into the shack, tell the friendly staff member what you'd like. Pay. Then go outside and wait for them to call your name. We sat at a picnic table overlooking the harbor with other folks doing the same. Nothing fancy, but oh my goodness! The Lobster Roll was SO GOOD! I recommend coming here without hesitation and will return in the future. read more

Delicious chowder and excellent service by all the staff. Would highly recommend. Too bad they are closingsoon for the season.

This was some of the best clam chowder I've ever had. Adding lobster to clam chowder was brilliant. The seafood salad was excellent as we could taste the seafood and the taste were not overwhelmed by the dressing. You eat on picnic tables, and it was a very pleasant day. It's a little out of the way, but well worth it. This is a classic lobster shack. read more

We drive about 45 minutes to try the fluffy lobster chowder. We ended up getting the clam chowder and the lobster both were great and just so you all know this place has not seating but a long line lol... would definitely go again read more

It was my first time trying a new place lobster rolls in New Hampshire. I have my usual go-to places when I visit but stumbled upon Rye Harbor Lobster Pound on TikTok and thought I'd give it a try! I had the hot butter lobster roll (only way to have a lobster roll) I also had the lobster bisque which had lobster meat chunks in it as well as the fluffy chowder which was clam chowder with lobster meat chunks. The hot butter lobster roll was chefs kiss. Perfectly cooked and perfectly buttered. Not too oily/buttery. And the lobster meat was tender. The bisque and chowder were definitely a game changer with the lobster bits in it. I definitely will make this a regular spot when I visit in the summers. On top of the great food, service was quick and friendly! Appreciate the staffs help when we had questions. It's a to-go only place but they have picnic benches along the shore of Rye where you enjoy the ambiance of the coast with your meal. Only down side is you have to pay for parking, buuuuuut, it's definitely worth it! read more

This was our last stop after driving up north in NH seeing the colors of Fall. I really wanted to like this place, but is just fell a little short for me. Paying $10 to park seemed excessive to start. The lobster roll was good, but it just did not have a lot of lobster for $30. It seemed like 4-5 oz at best. The fluffy chowder and lobster bisque were the best items we had here. Steamers were good, but smaller long necks. Service was friendly. read more

Best lobster rolls on the east coast. Same owners as the hungry lobster a bit inland. In addition to the lobster rolls the lobster bisque and lobster mac and cheese are great. The kids running it were also great super friendly and fast. We went well out of our way to go here again on our last trip and we'll be back again. The only knock on it is there aren't a lot of tables to eat at and the spot isn't particularly scenic behind a shed. Take your meal to go and eat at the Rye Harbour State Park a few minutes north. They have picnic tables right out on a grassy ocean overlook. read more

The lobster is so fresh, I literally saw the lobsterman walking in with them. The roll is packed with meat for a good price and a nice add on to any meal is their "fluffy" clam chowder. On a beautiful day, you can sit sea side to take in the sights and breathe in the fresh air. read more

Found this place on Yelp.... And I'm so glad I did. I usually go to another local place for lobster rolls but this time wanted to venture out see what else is out there. This is now my favorite place for a lobster roll and chowder. I love hot lobster rolls and this is hands down the best one I ever had, I'm having dreams about it haha. Also the drive to this location is really pretty, if you don't plan on staying more than 30 mins the parking is free which is nice. But it's a great place if you wanna grab food, grab a table and watch some boats. The fluffy chowder was 100000/10. I could bathe in it. Bury me with a hot lobster roll and their fluffy chowder. Classic lobster rolls, the wife had the hot, I had the cold. Roll grilled nicely, lobster done to perfection- both were delicious. We also split a fluffy clams chowder, which we had never tried- delicious. Not the best clam chowder we've ever had. We are very partial to the Sail Loft in Boston. The last few bites of this one was very watery- the first bites with the lobster, like I said delicious. The service was good for a little take out place- the freshness is what we were after more than anything. We took it away to the beach around the corner- the parking lot - where it's located is a drag. The food was good but it better be for 85$ for 2 lobster rolls and 16 ozs of fluffy chowder. read more

Eureka!!! For about 50 years, I have been on a dedicated consummate search for the absolute best chowder in the world. I can now honestly report such has been found today at Rye Beach, NH. I hands down declare the "FLUFFY CHOWDER" to be found at the Rye Harbor Seafood Pound as #1, finest in the land!!! My Nanna's Conch chowder (Key Largo, Fl) is now moved to #2 (sorry gram); Bethany's clam chowder at Block Island Airport in R.I. is #3; and #4 is the seafood chowder at Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. This place is a short 10 minute detour off I-95 just south of Portsmouth,NH. I am now officially an addict! read more

While this is called a lobster "shack" it's more like a "portable storage unit" for the backyard! The only let down for this travelin' Texan. I was on Star Island, NH for 5 nights. Most there were from NH or NE. I often asked where's the best place to get a lobster roll. This place was mentioned time and time again. So I went... being from Austin where one can wait 4 hours to get Franklin's BBQ, the one and a half hour wait to get a good lobster roll is ok. So I waited and items in the menu would get crossed off the list but what I wanted was not. Everyone said get the hot roll with sherry butter sauce and the fluffy chowder. I ordered the hot and the cold roll (Mayo mix) and the fluffy chowder AND the lobster bisque. To be fair I had not had a roll or chowder since getting to NE. No opportunity. But I did this day and one other day when I was a bit further inland.... The lobster rolls and soups did not disappoint! I am glad I ordered ALL that. I was told to order 2 rolls because they are small. One was perfectly adequate for a meal. Adding a soup to it was over filling. Funny thing- I like the opposite of the top recommendations. I could not discern the sherry flavor in the butter "sauce" and the sauce made the bun soggy. But all that lobster!!!! Omg! The Mayo based roll was much more to my liking. As for the soups--- the fluffy chowder. What's the big deal? It wasn't fluffy. It was creamy but not fluffy. And the lobster bisque was TO DIE FOR! I've never had better. And what was nice about both - lobster dropped in for a substantial garnish. While I definitely had my faves of the 4 items they were all so good and worth the wait. Given the opportunity I'd probably order everything I did again and hope I have someone to share it with. My vegetarian friend who was kind enough to wait with had none. But she supported my desire for a really good lobster roll and did not rush me. Thank you friend! read more

We visit Hampton Beach every year and are always on the lookout for lobster rolls and seafood. This place was rated well so we gave it a try for lunch. The hot lobster roll was stuffed with warm butter lobster meat. The roll was perfectly toasted, wasn't too dry, wasn't soggy. You can taste the butter but not too much to overwhelm the lobster. The lobster bisque was rich and creamy with large chunks of lobster. The fluff chowder also had a ton of lobster meat. Everything was super hot, fresh and delicious. The staff were friendly, service was quick. The inside of the hut was clean and organized. Would highly recommend. read more
