Another fine visit to SWELL! Father's Day 2024. Had the dozen assorted oysters. So fresh and only could be more fresh if you caught them yourself. Quick and polite service. Love the nautical clean ambiance. And we just ordered another dozen of the SWELL oysters.

Knowledgeable and courteous staff. Top quality oysters! We are lucky to have them here in Hampton.

Super cute small spot that serves the freshest, most delicious oysters! We also got the shrimp cocktail which included huge shrimp with incredible cocktail sauce! Highly recommend you stop here for the best oysters.

Great oysters. Friendly guys up front. Simple setup. I'm going to be a repeat customer for sure. oysters single 3$ each, or by the bakers dozen. Multiple varieties when I went. $2buck shuck oysters are the ones that have an imperfect shape. The oysters come on a nice, transportable iced cardboard to-go tray - so super easy to grab and go. If you want to eat there, they have a 2-seater in the patio, and a single picnic table out back. Other options are some shrimp, ceviche, caviar in small containers in the fridge you can buy. Shrimp was big and fresh. Ceviche was small portion and just okay for us (most of the flavor was mango). Overall a top notch shack we were glad we impulse stopped by. Highly recommend. Note on parking: Went on a very light traffic day so wasn't an issue for me, but I imagine it's crazy to find a way in on a busy day because of small parking and unclear if you have to pay the attendant to park.

New, clean and absolutely adorable inside. Oysters from all over New England, shucked or unshucked to-go. Met the owner who was super nice. Can't wait to come back with friends.

Loved this place! The oysters and shrimp were soooo fresh and delicious. Ceviche was amazing. The staff were extremely friendly and helped us decide what to get. Got the oysters already shucked. We rented a cottage for the week and brought everything back to our place to eat. They provided a very cool to-go container with ice. Wish we lived closer so we could visit every week.

I love this place! It has the best oysters around. Has a great selection, their swells are fantastic and their wild swellls are my favorite.

The shrimp cocktail was amazing and if I was so full was going to order more.

If there were a Hall of Fame for small fried seafood joints that never miss, Al's Seafood would…read morealready have a plaque, a laminated menu, and a line out the door - they already have a chalk menu, and during the summer, a wait for a table so we're almost there! This place is absurdly consistent. The portions are always generous, the quality is never caught lacking, and the dining room is spotless in that reassuring someone actually cares way. The staff (and it's always the same people that are there, which is cool in itself that there's no noticeable turnover in the staff) is friendly without being fake about it... efficient, pleasant, and clearly proud of what they're serving from fryers behind the soda fountains. Let's talk food, because wow. That's why you're reading this. The fried shrimp are so good that my wife (who does not like seafood) actively loves them. That alone should be printed on the menu. I've only known her to eat fried shrimp when the breading weighs more than the shrimp itself (which is not the case here). The tartar sauce is the best in North America. It's my crack. If I drank it through a straw (a bit too thick), that straw would be called a crack pipe. I literally smile writing about this tartar sauce. I will not be taking questions at this time. The "regular" fries are exactly what fries should be: crisp, fluffy, salty perfection. And the onion rings? Peak "fried seafood place" onion rings... golden, crunchy, and unapologetically doing their job, not tempura style, but old school Weathervane "fried seafood style" onion rings that you can sub in instead of fries on plates/boats for a small upcharge. Even the bathrooms are clean, which sounds like a throwaway detail until you realize how rare that is and how much it says about the place. We love it so much that we'll happily drive 40 minutes each way to eat there - in winter - because that's what you do when a place never lets you down. And despite the sign saying Al's Seafood, we tell everyone it's called "Big Al's Seafood" Not because that's the name, but because that's the energy this place has... It's not trendy. It's not trying to reinvent anything. It's just awesome, every single time and honestly, that's harder to pull off than any gimmick. Signing off... keep it up, Big Al.

Very, very surprised…read more I'm pretty particular when it comes to lobster because it's so easy to overcook, so I'm usually skeptical about ordering a lobster roll. My boyfriend and I shared the Connecticut-style lobster roll. While it wasn't overflowing with lobster especially for $29.99 it was cooked perfectly. That's not something I say often, so that's a huge compliment. I've had lobster rolls in Maine for about the same price that were much more generously filled, but the quality of the lobster here was excellent. My biggest critique would be the bun. I think this would be even better on a non-toasted bun or with a different style of roll altogether. The bun took away from what was otherwise a fantastic lobster roll. I also ordered the clam chowder. The flavor was really good, and it tasted homemade and fresh. My only complaint is that I hardly found any clams or if they were there, they were very small and blended into the soup. It also had a slight cheesy flavor that I wasn't expecting. I'd just recommend adding more clams because the base itself was delicious. The French fries were decent, and you could tell they were cooked in clean oil, which I always appreciate. The coleslaw, however, was watery and just wasn't for me. As for the atmosphere, it has a fun, old-school seafood shack vibe. You order outside, grab your food, then bring it inside to eat, and the staff clears your table afterward, which was a nice touch. The only downside was that the air conditioning appeared to be leaking in the middle of the dining room. Water dripped onto my boyfriend and even onto one of the waitresses. I'm sure it was just a maintenance issue, but it wasn't the most pleasant dining experience and did make me question how sanitary it was. Overall, I left pleasantly surprised. Despite a few areas that could be improved, the perfectly cooked Connecticut-style lobster roll is absolutely something I'd order again, and that's saying a lot coming from someone who's very picky about lobster.

That visual is the high point. Sadly, it appears what was once a local favorite has become a tourist trap. My wife and I ordered lobster bisque, the haddock-and-shrimp plate, a fried clam plate, and two drinks. I was a little surprised when the total came back just over $80, but figured good food and an authentic lobster-shack experience would make it worthwhile. The moment they called our number and I picked up the tray, it was immediately clear that average would be a stretch goal for this meal. The onion rings were poorly breaded and undercooked. The fried clams were overbreaded and barely adequate. The lobster bisque tasted more like boiled shells than lobster, which may explain the complete absence of actual meat in the bisque. The coleslaw tasted straight out of a Sysco bag--ironically the least disappointing part of the meal. If you're a tourist just trying to check "roadside lobster shack" off the list, Brown's might scrape by. If you want real New England seafood, keep driving.
