This review will start with a caution: DO NOT GO HERE FOR REPAIRS ON CHEAP GLASSES. I, of course, stopped by for a repair of some cheap sunglasses. Both were from Forever 21 and likely cost $10 total. One needed both lenses reattached and one needed nose guard replacements. The person working at Frame Mender checked out the glasses and said the repairs would be easy. Then he quoted me $45 for the pair that needed the lenses reattached and $20 for the pair that needed nose guards. What I was NOT going to do was pay 5x what the glasses are worth to have them repaired. However, if I have issues with any of my prescription glasses or expensive sunglasses, I WOULD return here for the fix(es). The Frame Mender employee was very professional and the space itself, while nondescript, was clean, plus it's conveniently located near my house (and across the street from Samos, so all win!). read more

My husband's expensive Oliver Peoples eyeglasses ended up in the washing machine with the bed sheets. They were all bent up and the hinge broken. "Can not be repaired", said my local Optician. Rather than pay for another set of glasses I sent them to Frame Menders. Brian not only repaired the hinges he also straightened out the frame. They look like new. I sent my eyeglasses to The Frame Mender after the company that repaired another pair of glasses closed down. Frame Mender worked on my glasses promptly and sent them back to me very quickly. The company also packed the shipping box to protect the glasses very carefully too. Imagine my surprise when I saw the workmanship of the repair person. The temple that was being repaired looked like it had been fixed by a 10 year old kid using contact cement or super -glue. The temple doesn't even line up with the frame. It's sturdy, but looks terrible. The glasses are wearable when I'm in my home, but they look so bad, that I wouldn't wear them in a business setting.....very sloppy work. read more

I'm totally blind without my glasses. I'm also a horrible glasses wearer - I forget where I put them at night, I clean them with all the wrong things, I fall asleep wearing them and roll over and smush them all the time. This morning after a couple months of smushing them they were a mangled twist that even Escher couldn't have illustrated. I stopped in and spoke with a great friendly fellow who took my twisted out of recognition glasses to the workroom on the spot. He came back in less than ten minutes and handed what looked and felt like a brand new pair. Cheap, fast, and good. Normally you only can get two of those. The Frame Mender is a professionally run business. A fastener came out of the frame of my eyeglasses, so I needed to find a place to get them repaired. I saw the positive reviews that The Frame Mender had received in the past, so I decided to give them a try. It is not convenient for me to drive to one of their locations, so I used their ship-in service. I was asked to provide photos so they could prepare an accurate estimate, which I did. They came back with a reasonable price, so I shipped off the glasses. A couple days later, I got them back, with a small replacement fastener installed as promised. I wore the glasses for a couple of weeks, and the fastener came out. I was glad that they warranted their work, so I sent the glasses back, and a couple of days later, they were returned repaired. It looks like they used a different type of fastener that will hold well. I have been wearing the glasses for a while now, so I decided to give a good review. The Frame Mender does indeed stand behind thier work. There was no additional charge for the second repair. All correspondence was timely and professional. Highly recommended. read more

Only giving one star because I can't give less. Drove there and presented them with 3 different pairs of sunglasses to fix. Maui Jim Arnette and Hot Buttered brands. Looked at them for about 5 seconds and said there was nothing he could do. Suggested I send them back to the manufacturer for repair. Not that they couldn't be repaired just that they couldn't or didn't want to do them. Total waste of time. This company is unbelievable. I was given their name from a sales person at Oliver Peoples. I contacted their web-site and ask for a quote to repair my wire frame glasses. They quoted me $40 which included a postage free return. They received my broken glasses on a Thursday, repaired and shipped them back the same day (within 4 hours of receiving). My frames broke and my optometrist doesn't fix frames; suggested a local jeweler. I didn't feel comfortable handing my glasses over to people who only design jewelry. Did a Google search, read reviews, called/emailed to clarify some questions I had and decided to send them in; I live in CA. My husband and I visited this place recently because my husband had unfortunately had broken the bridge of his glasses. After searching and running around trying to find a place that could fix his glasses, no place was available that could help him. The place that he bought his glasses from suggested that he get new frames, which cost over $200. No way! Who has that kind of money? Not us. Any who Frame Menders were friendly and very professional. The service was quick. I don't remember the guy who helped us, but he was nice too. Tried fixing my broken glasses with superglue and it worked temporarily. Then I discovered The Frame Mender. For a mere pittance they salvaged my $400.00 designer frames and they fixed them while I had lunch. Can't say enough about the quick service. This place is great! My sunnies were stepped on and the nose bridge and one side were all wonky. The guy fixed them in under a half hour and they were back to new. Price was reasonable. $40 and I paid an extra $5 to have it done the same day, which was worth it. Bad weekend hours (close at 2 or 3) but otherwise on point. read more

I was excited to find a place that would repair my prescription shades (plastic frames) that was broken at the bridge of the nose. Brian gave me a quote I sent the payment and the glasses to them. They repaired the glasses sent them back. I wore them one time, I turned my head and they came apart. I sent them back (because the receipt says their repairs have a guarantee for the life of the frames. Well that is not true they sent one pair back repaired and the other pair back broken. Shame on you Frame Menders you are a bogus and untruthful company. Brian needs to go to a customer service class. Better yet hire someone to deal with customer he can stay in the back and repair the glasses. read more

I received the repaired frames last week and wanted to use them for a while before posting my comments. When the frame pivot wire broke, I was extremely disappointed. My gold filled Porsche Carrera sunglasses were purchased new back in the 80's and I wore them almost daily ever since. There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted them repaired and not replaced with a different pair of sunglasses. My only challenge was finding a reliable place to have the sunglasses repaired. Living in the suburban Chicago area, I thought finding a place that specializes in glasses frame repair would be very simple, with only then making a decision on numerous choices...I was wrong. After an extensive search, I could not locate a place locally for repairing my vintage sunglasses. I then searched the Internet and found a half dozen places similar to Frame Mender, with very similar quoted repair prices, which were just a fraction of the cost compared to buying a similar used pair on E-bay. As it turned out, Frame Mender responded first within a couple of hours with a quoted price (including return USPS shipping) and it even was during a weekend. I took a gamble and sent Frame Mender my vintage sunglasses for repair. The company kept me up to date on the entire process..letting me know when they were received, being repaired and on their way back to me with USPS tracking. Keep far away from this establishment, ALL locations. I wish I could leave negative stars!The repair job was POOR to say the least. The lens of my Gucci sunglasses fell out and I counted on Frame Mender to repair my sunglasses. They repaired the glasses so that the lens was not flush to the frame...basically, a huge gap existed between the lens and the frame. The lens should have circled all the way around the frame with no gap. Unbelievable. I've lost money and still can't wear my glasses.Frame Mender wanted me to send them in again at MY expense even after showing them examples of their poor work. Brian is the rudest and the most irresponsible store manager I have ever dealt with. I sent my glasses in to Frame Mender for repair, but I never received it back. So I called the store to find out what is going on. To my surprise, Brian (store manager) has sent back my glasses to a very old address I had. I asked them why did you not send it to the current address, the address which I filled out online, on the framemender website when I requested the repair. He answered that the old address is the address he had on his file. He did not follow my updated address and blamed me on it. He should have sent it to the address I gave to him on his website and not to any outdated address from somewhere else. He is non apologetic and kept telling me that it was my fault. When I said that he will be liable for the loss of my glasses, he hung up on me. Unbelievably rude!!! I will never deal with them again and will never recommend anyone. I would rather throw away my glasses and buy a new one rather deal with frame mender ever again. read more

I was very dissatisfied with their service on my plastic frames. I mailed them my glasses and they came back still broken. The box was not damaged. There was very little evidence that much adhesive was applied. I asked for my money back and they refused. When I called them, Brian was very unprofessional. From New York, I sent in a pair of glasses with a broken ear bar. The metal piece that attached the ear bar to the main frame was snapped. I received the completely repaired glasses within two days. OMG! Unbelievable service and repair. I have a $480 pair of computer glasses that I wear only when I'm at my desktop computer. They are a year old and from a high end frame shop. The stem broke off. I took them back to the store where I got them and was told "sorry, nothing can be done". I went online and found The Frame Mender and emailed them to ask if they could be repaired. They immediately replied and asked that I send a photo. They said they could be repaired. They estimated the fee would be $45 and I mailed them out the same day. I had my glasses back in 8 days, return shipping fee was included, and the fee was what they originally quoted. My glasses are as good as new! I'm thrilled. I wish I had known about them earlier as I have tossed glasses where the frame was broken. I have a complicated prescriptions and my glasses are expensive.
