So I love the doors as I walked in . My fiance and I walked up the flight of stairs and turn the corner there is the reception desk . It was directly to the right immediately as you turn the corner up the stairs. The color scheme is bright and vibrant and I enjoyed that. There is plenty of lighting and the overall space is clean and spacious. (Given the size of the office). Also ,there was music it was to pass the time but wasn't to low so that you couldn't hear. After we turn the corner to the reception desk (at 10:50) my fiance was asked to fill out a form for the doctor. He finishes and hands back the form and literally two minutes later the doctor was ready for him. (At 11:05) . My fiance was out by 11:16. He had a prescription and new glasses. Things to note : our appointment was for 11am. There were two receptionist. The female receptionist was helping another guest. She was attentive bit not overbearing. She was also being helpful with suggestions for her guest. There was a misunderstanding about the yelp deal but Jordan was very helpful and even helped us with finding a pair of glasses. The yelp deal takes 80 off the eye exam which is 125. You will pay $45 on top of the yelp deal just for the exam. The glasses still come at a additional cost. read more

I'm disappointed I didn't leave a review after my first visit, but am glad to do so after my second. My first was back in 2015 and I was very pleased with the glasses I got at the time... but this review is covering my June 2020 visit. During the COVID era, I have avoided unnecessary visits to... any establishment. In fact, I hadn't entered a single place since the first week of March until I visited Paris West. Jordan had the place clean and ready to go, and it was very comfortable to visit. The Dr portion was only slightly more difficult than normal because of the mask wearing fogging up the equipment, but otherwise that went smoothly. Now when it came to selecting frames, I was very unsure where to start, but Jordan was 2 steps ahead of me and had already picked out a few based on my previous purchase and what he thought would look best. Turns out, he was spot-on and I chose the frame that I came to find out was his first-choice. I am so happy with the glasses, and have been getting non-stop comments about them for the 2 days that I've had them! I also inquired about sunglasses, which I have not really worn for the past several years, and Jordan showed me their Prix Fixe line of frames which is incredibly affordable and look really nice! If there were more stars I would give this place 10 stars. I have been dealing with Jordan and his staff at Paris West going on 3 years now. I have brought all my glasses and sunshades from them and have gotten many compliments on them. I have 2 pairs of prescription glasses (gucci and marc jacobs) and prescrition sunshades as well. (lacooste, 2 channel frames, 1 limited edition pair of prada frames). I also like how they always stay on top with the top pf the line frames and are constantly getting in new shipments week after week. They also do a nice trunk show in the spring time where they may feature a particular brand like paul frank and so forth. Also the staff is very attentive and knowledgeable and will not send the customer out of the establishment until they are fully satisfied. I went back to Paris West as my 8 year old glasses finally broke and I needed new ones. The salesperson went above and beyond to find me glasses that I liked and also fit my face and didn't wear me. I needed an eye exam so I could refill my contact lens prescription. I saw that Paris West had a Yelp deal so I decided to snag it. I'm so glad I did! A normal contact lens exam costs $105 but Paris West is currently running a special (I'm not sure how long it lasts) where it's only $80. Thanks to the Yelp deal I only spent $40 to get my eyes checked which, when you don't have insurance like me, is a serious lifesaver! Not only was the price perfect but everyone in the office was delightful, from the doctor to the receptionist to the other customers. It's a classy but laid-back atmosphere and I was made to feel right at home as soon as I walked in. I order my contacts online because it works out so much cheaper that way and there's always part of me that feels guilty asking for my prescription after an appointment, like I'm cheating the optometrist out of money they deserve. But here the doctor said straight up that I could either order through them or they'd be happy to provide my prescription for me. Major bonus points! I didn't need glasses and without insurance I wouldn't really be able to afford them anyway but their selection looked impressive. Lots of cool and funky frames that I would've loved to try on. I walked by this place for a year thinking it would be hi-brow and very expensive. I couldn't have been more wrong. I found the experience so lovely that I stayed after my appointment and chatted. For anyone who is under the impression that boutique stores are more expensive (like I was) you will be pleasantly surprised to find they are actually quite comparable (this includes the cost of both glasses and exams). PLUS you're going to end up with top-notch service and a pair of frames that are uniquely yours; something you wont see on the street everyday and don't make you a walking billboard for [insert name here]. Unless you're into that... and then they have those frames too - even some in limited edition so you can brag to your friends about being the brand whore you are. Personally, I had been looking for a pair of plastic frames with gold hardware for years - they were my unicorn - completely impossible to find. A true Baltimore gem. While most eye glass shops might have 2,000 frames for you to choose from, Paris West has between 5,000 and 6,000 frames at any given moment. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The owner Jordan is an eyeglass frames nut who buys frames that he thinks people will want to wear and ignores conventional wisdom about eyeglass inventory at retail opticians. It's the kind of place where you can walk in and say, "I want the frames that Mos Def wore on this season of Dexter" like I recently did and they have them on the shelf. My daughter who lives in NYC searched Manhattan for 6 months looking for frames there and found the perfect pair at Paris West in 15 minutes during a recent visit. From traditional frames to the futuristic to the tragically hip, Paris West has the frames you were looking for and frames that you didn't even know you needed. (They just sold me a pair of mat black sunglasses that I did not know I had to have.) The staff is there to kibitz with you regarding your purchases. There's Jordan the owner with the Jewish perspective; a nice black guy for your urban perspective and a cute young hipster chick with Betty Page bangs and cat eye glasses for the post modernist view. I am very pleased with my experience and new glasses. I brought my prescription to Paris West because I heard they have an unparalleled selection of frames in Baltimore. This was very true, especially in my case. I have a small, thin face and need very petite frames but I also have poor eyesight so the petite frames need to camouflage a thicker lens. Never before in all my years of wearing glasses have I seen such a selection of petite frames. I asked the gentleman helping me to pick out a pair of glasses that looked good on me. The petite frames on display were not a good fit so he brought out additional inventory and eventually I found the perfect pair. The gentleman who helped me was very knowledgeable about the inventory and the shape of frame that would look right on me. He was also patient. I do recommend getting Jordan, the owner, involved in your transaction at some point. While the first gentleman was extremely helpful in picking out frames Jordan provided the most knowledge about high index lenses. Based on his knowledge and recommendation, I went with a very thin high index lens. He said that if I didn't like this very thin lens, he would bear the cost of replacing it. I love my glasses. This is the first time since the eighties that I've had a pair of glasses I prefer to contacts. They fit my face and the lens doesn't protrude from the frame. I popped in without an appointment just to poke around, and the staff kindly let me know that I could be seen right then if I wanted, as the optometrist was free. I had the Yelp deal, so I thought why not? The doctor was very nice and a pleasure to work with. He checked my eyes and the prescription on my old pair (5+ years, yikes!), and gave me his advice on getting a new pair. I'm an English major and I work on the computer a lot, so I was worried it was causing my eyes to get much worse than they actually were. I didn't have the budget for a pair of frames and lenses right then, so I asked for a copy of my prescription instead. This was my first time getting an eye exam, and it was overall a pleasant experience. Though they don't take any vision insurance, they were doing a 50% sale so I paid ~$60 for the eye exam. I didn't need any glasses prescriptions so I can't say anything about that process, but I would definitely recommend this place for anyone in the area who needs a regular eye exam. read more

This is THE place to buy spectacles in Baltimore! Picking out frames has never been so fun. They have the most well-rounded selection I have ever seen, from polished and conservative to funky-fresh, as the salesman put it. I am on my second pair of prescription glasses and sunglasses from Paris West. I got so many compliments on my first set of frames (a pair of AWESOME Chanel glasses that I adore and Ferragamo sunglasses) that it was hard to make the switch, even after I knew that I was in dire need of a new prescription. I finally went in yesterday for an eye appointment and to pick out frames. The eye doc they have on site was great... SO much better than the eye doctors I have been seeing at Rowen's group down the street at Mercy Medical Center. I felt like he really paid attention to what he was doing and didn't rush through the exam. Next was the fun part: picking out frames! I wish I could remember the name of the gentleman who helped me. He was really helpful and basically went through all of the cases and helped me pick out five different eyeglass frames that looked good on me. From there I got input from all of the staff, including Jordan, the owner, until I decided on the one I liked best. He even got me to try on some really crazy designs that I knew I would never buy just for the fun of it. I also picked out a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses that I adore. Okay - I really hesitate before writing one-star reviews. I tend to give places the benefit of the doubt, assuming that if I had a bad experience that it was probably an aberration and not the typical experience. However, this was such a negative experience that I have to share it... While in Baltimore on business, my glasses were blown off my face by a strong gust of wind - yeah... it was REALLY windy while I was there. In the process of catching them, I managed to bend one of the earpieces and realized I needed help from someone with tools and knowledge to help fix them. I arrived at the store at 4:35pm, 25 minutes before closing. As I entered I noticed that they sold the brand of eyewear that I had so I felt comfortable asking for their help adjusting. I explained to the woman at the desk what my predicament was - she seemed somewhat put-off that I was only coming in to get my glasses adjusted and not to buy anything. After hemming and hawing, she finally said that maybe the other person in the store could help. I explained to the gentlemen what had happened and showed him my glasses. At first he said that he didn't think they could be adjusted. I told him that because they were unwearable in their current condition that I was giving him permission to try without fear of breaking the frame. He disappeared into the back of the store. 5 minutes later he reappeared with my glasses. I could tell immediately that they were worse than when I walked in. He insisted that I try them on - one lens was completely under my line of vision and the other was much too high. He looked at me and said (are you ready for this?) "yeah, that looks better." After 3 more iterations similar to the first I finally told him that it was obvious that he wasn't going to be able to help me, took my glasses back, and left. When I arrived home I stopped into my optometrist's office. I told her the story and handed her the glasses. Her response? "Oh my god, are you telling me that an eyeglasses shop actually did this to your glasses?" She then was able to properly adjust the frame in about 3 minutes. So, the moral to this story? If I lived in Baltimore I would never go to Paris West again. This was a frustrating experience and I feel fortunate that I didn't end up having to replace a frame that was broken by their incompetence. read more

The reason I had given up glasses shopping in the first place is because every store I came across had the most uninteresting and predictable selection possible! As soon as I walked into Paris West I knew this place was gonna be different. They have anything and everything you could dream of when it comes to frames-- typical rectangles, geek chic, totally outrageous, cat eyes, colorful, wooden, and anything else you can imagine. I instantly knew I would find something I loved, and I did in fact. For that, Paris West deserves a big fat FIVE. Service: 5 These people know their stuff! And they're patient... ohhh sooo patient. Which I appreciate wholeheartedly when shopping for an object that will sit on my face for hours at a time. I wish I knew the girl's name who helped me, so I could give her the best shout-out of all time. She may be the only girl who works there, so if you're lucky you'll get her to help you out. Walking into the store, I wasn't even exactly sure what I was looking for, I just knew I hadn't found it yet. After pointing to two frames in the window, she understood EXACTLY the direction I was going in. From then, every pair she brought me I would have bought. Every single one. I went from not finding one pair of glasses I would even consider to having 6 to choose from! She would bring me a pair, hear what I had to say about it, and then scoot off to the back to bring me something I loved even more. It was amazing. Probably the best and most attentive customer service I've ever gotten. Anti Reflective Lenses: 1 Alright, so I normally don't get any of those fancy add-ons to my glasses, but I ended up falling for the anti-reflective lenses. The idea is you don't see those extra rays that make every light look like a massive sun, especially when it's dark out. The tipping point for me was how much this would ease night time driving... but let me tell you-- I see NO difference. I don't know if they forgot to add on this feature or what, but every little lightbulb looks like a sunshine to me. And this add-on was $100 extra!! Uch, I still regret the moment I said yes! Price: 2 Perhaps I'm paying for this place's great stock and amazing customer service... these glasses are esspensive!! Before insurance and the Yelp Deal I bought ($40 for $85, woop woop!) my pair cost $644! Yeah, that's right. FAR too much. Luckily the Yelp Deal and insurance combined dropped that price by a couple hundo. Good thing, because otherwise I would NOT be coming home with the perfect pair for me! Time: 4 So at the time of purchase I was told they would be ready in the next two weeks. I figured this was a conservative time estimate, just to make sure they cover themselves incase something takes longer than expected. Seems this was exactly the case! I went here to get an eye exam and a new pair of glasses about a year ago. I was happy with both the exam and the glasses. The staff was very helpful, especially when I was trying to find the best pair of frames for my face. Unfortunately, my dog ate my glasses only a couple months after I got them. I decided to get an eye exam at Paris West because with the yelp deal and the 20% off special they were having my contact lens exam was $40 total with an extra $5 left over to use towards my contact order. What a steal! Here's the really great thing about them. When I asked about prices for my contacts they informed me they price match all contacts with Walmart. That means that if, like me, you HATE driving out to the suburbs for basic services, but sometimes you feel like you have to because the prices are so much cheaper, Paris West solves that problem by offering affordable prices IN the city. Ben Franklin if he lived in a post-apocalyptic world glasses? Check. I have needed glasses since I was 12, and this is the first store that had truly (a) excellent customer service (b) a diverse and fashionable set of frames and (c) did I mention excellent customer service? I would give them 6 stars if I could, and I'm generally stingy. First, I walked in less than a week before a 5-week trip to Europe and wanted them done before or sent to me there (not a totally reasonable stance really). My previous pair of glasses had disappeared, and the last time I was walking around downtown Athens the smog made my contacts unwearable and extremely painful. They bent over backwards to get my glasses ready on time, even though I had ordered transition lenses and had a correction they didn't have in stock. They got it done before the trip, and I could not be happier with this pair of glasses. For the first time, I wear them more than my contacts. They are good quality, very fashionable, perfectly fitting, and the sunglass transition works extremely well (I don't even notice it, which is the way you want it). Nope ... it's not gonna happen. The only way to find an optician "round yonder" who meets the standards of Paris West Optical would depend on whether they clone their store. A trip to Paris West Optical is not to be confused with anything that is going on in a shopping mall. You come away wishing that they served dinner so you could hang out a little longer. The owner is on the floor with his staff, LISTENING to his customers wants and wishes. Good stuff rolls down hill as the staff are every bit as gracious and helpful as the owner. Cutting to the chase, you should go to Paris West Optical if * you are searching for a specific style of frame * you want to get the state of the art Oakley's designed to be worn during athletics. * you miss the confidence you once had for the local opticians, most of which were put out of business by the one-hour shops. * My glasses took a little longer than one hour to produce. That's because Paris West had to deal with the manufacturer being out -of-stock. Oh, the manufacturer is in Great Britain. Not much happens in Europe during the month of August. It would have been a whole lot easier to tell me that the frames I wanted were not available. They didn't quit until they found the frames that I wanted. The prices are very reasonable. I paid just about the same for my Paris West glasses as I did when I last purchased bi-focal eyeglasses with matching sun clips from Bowers & Snyder ... 13 years ago! Free parking is available ... knowing the lay of Mt. Vernon helps. If not, there is a lot across the street. When you leave PWO with your new eyeglasses, saunter over to the Enoch Pratt Main Branch and give them a test run. read more

If any one tells you this is not the real deal, don't listen. The selection of frames here is superb and my experience here was So Much Fun. Jordan was great. I told him I wanted glasses that were hip and funky and he did not waste a minute of my time with the same old same old. He was on target from the very first pair he showed me. A half hour later I had selected not only the new sunglass frames I came in for, but a new pair of regular frames that are to die for. It was SUCH a pleasure to work with a proprietor who loves his work, knows his inventory inside and out, and wants his customers to leave happy. I wish I had eyes in the back of my head - if I did, I'd go right out to Paris West and buy more frames from Jordan! read more

Our experience with Paris West Optical was fun, highly informative, and productive. I'd recommend their store for anyone who wants something out of the box, great quality, and personalized. We worked with Jason and he was phenomenal. I so appreciated how he was happy for us to browse independently or to engage hands-on with us. His main priority was that we found glasses that we felt great in. He was very proactive and authentic. His perspective is that "the decision doesn't end when you leave the store", and truly understands how important glasses are in everyday life. He passed along some knowledge that I will take with me for years to come, like how to see whether a frame "flows" with your face. He knows all of his products inside and out, and has been working with face shapes and features for decades. Great customer service, I LOVE Paris West, they go above and beyond to accomodate you. I needed my pupil distance number and I called Belvedere square where I had my eyes examined and they told me that when I had my exam the Dr. didn't put it on my prescription and since I wasn't getting my glasses there they could not assist me. I called Paris West and spoke to Kaylyn and she gave me exactly what I needed, sorry if I misspelled her name. They are THE BEST in town, never will I stray again !!!!!!! read more
