I am most heartily recommend this gem of an optical shop. All of their glasses are curated and unique. You will not find two of the same pair in the entire shop. I picked up a sweet frame from France which is not only unique, but also featherweight and surprisingly sturdy. The service in the shop was excellent. I highly, highly recommend I candy. As a Hairstylist I have referred numerous clients to Eye Candy over the last 4 years. I have also been a client. I will no longer however, after my most recent experience was very disappointing especially with Cerrill, the owner. I took my girlfriend for new eyewear, convincing her that the level of quality and service would be worth the thousand dollars that she could expect to spend. Well I was mistaken. Explaining that we would be traveling we were encouraged that she would be fitted in time with her new eyewear. So, first they "lost" the frames but would order new ones, Cerill assuring us all the while not to worry...then they couldn't get the chosen frames...Cerrill said she would call us back then she never did ... When I spoke with her her entire attitude shifted to an apathetic "things happen" not offering any additional resolve nor consideration. We both were by this time disappointed and disgusted so we cancelled the order. After several days we finally received a refund on the $500 deposit. I am due for new eyewear but will definitely take my business elsewhere and no longer recommend Eye Candy. That level of service has obviously changed and not for the better. read more

This is a hip little place in Hampden with a catchy name. Too bad it's hella expensive! Eye Candy has a great selection of stylish frames, but I'll be damned if I am going to pay half a monthly house payment for a pair. Seriously, I was quoted over $550 for the pair I was looking at. The lady also gives you the upsell hardcore. Super poly-carbonate ultralight fiberglass lenses with spaceage non-glare coating.... BS! It essentially doubled the cost of just the frames. I found the frames to be very reasonably priced for how unique they are. Eye Candy doesn't accept insurance and I didn't feel pressured into getting my lenses through them as well. My experience here was incredibly positive. I had broken one pair of glasses and lost an earpiece off another. I expected to have to buy 2 new frames. I walked in wearing the latter pair. The owner, Cerrill, looked up and immediately knew the brand of the frames and volunteered that she probably could get a matching replacement piece and they'd be good-as-new. She also looked at my broken frame and gave me the business card for an eyeglass repair shop that could probably fix them. I wanted a new frame, so stayed to look through her varied collection. She spent about 2 hours with me picking out dozens of frames and then helped me narrow my selection. She was very informed about lens choices and helped me choose one that fit my needs and my budget - no "hard sell" at all. More importantly, by helping find ways to repair both my current frames she saved me hundreds of dollars - probably not great for her for my purchase that day, but certainly good for future business! I'll go back and I'll refer Eye Candy to others. read more

This review is late but this is one great place for eyeglass frames! I've never seen a wider array or a better or more unusual selection anywhere! Cerrill and her staff are the best! They are wonderful when it comes to advice, product information and just good ole fashion opinions if whether a frame is flattering or now. Would I go back? You bet! My husband got his glasses here and I have now bought two pairs at two different times over three years. The customer service is absolutely superb! Abby and Cyril are so good at helping you find the pair that is really "you". The selection is wonderful - both eclectic frames and more standard frames. You can find stuff here that is no where else. I cannot say enough good things. Purchasing the right eyeglasses is challenging for a single person who lacks a fashion consultant. Within minutes of arrival, I knew that Eye Candy was the right shop for my purchase. I believe that scrimping on the purchase of eyewear will come back to haunt you. I have purchased one pair of glasses at a mall. It was a reputable outfit that offered decent prices, but hardly cheap. Despite this, these glasses wore out twice as fast as the better shops. Eye Candy blends the funkiness of Hampden with the expertise of a "downtown" shop. The proprietor, Cerrill Meister offered opinions in conjunction with her attentive associate, Jimmy. The two of them made a fuss over finding a style that pleased me. They offer a lot of really unique, adventurous styles. John Waters would have no problem finding something suitable. On the other hand, I am an old preppy whose used up all of his funkiness. I am thrilled with the look, feel, and fit of my glasses. I wanted a set of clip-on's which they really "went to the mat" to find a proper match. (custom clip on sunglasses can extend your delivery by 3 weeks and add $100 to the cost). Cerrill and Jimmy found a much better option for me. I was most pleased to find Eye Candy who I found through their support of WYPR, our local NPR station. read more

This is a secret garden of eyewear. I have not seen anyone with this kind of industry knowledge or eye (ha, "see" what I did there?) for proper fit for about 20 years. And there are TWO people in this little shop that provide a guiding hand through the plethora of shapes, colors, and materials! I have since brought my sister and mother into this shop, and made several purchases of my own. Even my husband and teenage nephews liked it here. At Eye Candy Opticianr you get helpful and professional staff, individual attention to detail, great products and selection, honest opinions and it's hip and in Hampden. If you want trash made by mass manufacturers in third world countries, be my guest and shop at the chain stores. If you want glasses crafted by boutiques in Germany and Japan, and made with lenses from Carl Zeiss then stop into Eye Candy. read more

I had an excellent experience here. I was only looking for tube readers, and I had priced them at another optician and didn't buy because I thought they were too expensive. Eye Candy was 25% cheaper for the same glasses. The owner took her time with me, checking out all the different possibilities. Even though it was a small sale, she worked to make sure I was happy with the glasses. not happy at all with a $750 purchase. its so subpar. The frame is unique and nice but its a Chinese/ Jersey frame so could have gotten that elsewhere. The glasses that cost $500 or so are just pathetic and that's what this store was supposed to get it right and they couldn't despite explicit instructions. This was supposed to be their most expensive glass from Heuer. I told them explicitly beforehand that I dislike white edges on my glasses and yet they have noticeable huge white edges. The most irritating part is that the glasses have reflection every time I take a picture. My other high end frame Zeiss glasses bought from another store do not have any reflection. Its so bad that I cannot take photos with this frame on. what a waste! Like most other shops on 36th st, this one is a dud. The owners are polite but politeness does not make up for a $750 loss. Avoid. Run as far away as you can. read more
