While driving to Sedona from Scottsdale, my friends and I decided to go out of the way and take a mountain drive. 20 very scary minutes later, we found ourselves in Jerome, and despite knowing nothing about the town we knew we had to stop and at least catch our breath after the winding, cliff-oriented experience we just had on the road. Jerome itself was actually one of the coolest, most charming tourist towns I've ever seen, and the Flatiron seemed like one of many neat little restaurants on the main drag. I'm glad we stopped here for lunch, because it hit the spot in a way that I'm not sure another restaurant could have. I had the soup and 1/2 sandwich meal, while my friends got some kind of sandwich wrap. We all were floored at the awesomeness of our food; my tuna salad was simple, yet great, and the clam chowder was absolutely outstanding. It had hints of dill and parsley and taragon and there were no potatoes (a plus in my book), making it easily the best clam chowder I've ever had outside of the East Coast. At the end I asked if they had any cookies (it sounded good), and our server instead busted out this line (I'm paraphrasing but it's close): "No, we don't have any cookies. We do have a homemade bread pudding served with a cream sauce drizzle that was just made this morning." So of course, all three of us then had awesome bread pudding, which was clearly great (perhaps not so great later when we attempted an uphill bike ride). I suspect that this place is probably a five-star cafe if I had more times to visit here, but I can say without question that if you're in Jerome, you should probably stop in here for some fantastic sandwiches and soup. And hopefully they made bread pudding that morning too. read more

That maybe doesn't say much since I probably just cancelled myself out for knowledge but I have to say that there was absolutely no bitterness to it but a full bold and delicious cup. If you are ever on your way to Sedona and drive through Jerome, stop and have breakfast here. The staff are young, friendly hipster folk who obviously care about the food they serve. The Southwest breakfast burrito is a bit pricey for the size but makes up with flavor and quality. The place itself, the Flatiron building has been many different businesses over the years. It's a cool vibe, TINY place with bench seating, very rustic. You get your own condiments from the "bookshelf" and put them back yourself, you return your plates to the counter when finished but it all adds up to making you feel at home. The Latte's are on par with any other "high end" coffee shop and to be honest, one of the best I've had. There is a little sign on their fridge that says "Love people, cook them tasty food". My fiancee and I drove down to Jerome for the night and had planned on eating lunch at the Flatiron Cafe but, although the signs said they were open, the door was locked and we were a bit confused. But Jerome is a weird town so we decided to come back the next day for breakfast. There is very little seating inside but they have a patio across the street if the weather is warm enough. We grabbed a table inside and ordered some food. The food took about 20 minutes to come out and, meanwhile, the staff were buzzing around fulfilling orders for other customers and handling the morning coffee rush. The food was very fresh and well-balanced and the service was consistently attentive throughout our meal. I gave this place 4 stars instead of 5 because the coffee I had was absolutely atrocious. These guys obviously take their coffee seriously; they have a full page menu of offerings. But I ordered a macchiato and the shots were over-extracted, the milk had no volume. Overall, the drink just tasted like it had been made by a novice barista. And there was a new employee behind the counter making the drinks so that might be the reason for the horrible coffee. I would still try their coffee again in the future. This place is a gem! read more

We topped it off by sharing a piece of their Dried Cherry Bread Pudding. YUM! This place is small and full of character. It is super cozy too. The food was delicious. I got the chicken salad sandwich and side of soup. I don't even like chicken salad but the fact that it comes with herbs, cranberries, and walnuts won me over. My bf got the salmon quesadilla. We got a mocha and bread pudding to share. It is all homemade and tastes fresh. The mocha was absolutely perfect. Not too sweet. They serve excellent coffee here. I wish this place was close to me because I would go all the time. read more

Very Interesting place to say the least. We came here because we had some vegans in the group and figured we could all find something we could eat here. I guess it's first come first serve because when we arrived, they had run out of a majority of their menu items. Two of my friends ordered the vegan chickpea sandwich. They seemed to love it! I got a taste and it was pretty good. Another friend and I ordered the grilled cheese and it wasn't bad either. The only thing I would remove would be the spinach. It came with an excessive amount of spinach (literally two inches thick) of raw spinach in the sandwich. Once we picked it out we found it pretty tasty. The atmosphere of this place was pretty neat. It felt like we were in someone's kitchen and they were cooking us dinner, it was a very cozy feel. They close at 330 and a few people came in after us. They told everyone their menu items had run out, but drinks were still ok to order. Two older men made a comment about how they didn't have much to order from and it resulted in the cook getting extremely aggressive with them, which was a tad uncomfortable. The woman who took our order was very, very nice. Overall if you're looking for a latte, or would like a cozy kitchen feel place to hang out in Jerome, this is the place for you. The Flatiron is a restaurant where you go when you want some local flavor. This is NOT MCDONALDS. This is NOT STARBUCKS. The wait for the food at Flatiron is long, but not interminable. It's a small place, and everything is cooked to order in a VERY SMALL kitchen. If you are looking for Taco Bell or McDonalds, this is NOT IT. The service is very personable and friendly...almost as if you are a member of the family. Don't come here if you are pressed for time. This is JEROME ARIZONA. I stopped by here yesterday morning with my fiance and parents on a cold and rainy morning in Jerome. The restaurant itself is quite a small space with three tables (a 6 top, 4 top and 2 top) as well as a bar that seats 4. Whenever the four of us walked in the only available table was the two top but thankfully the lady working the counter had people that were sitting at a table larger than their party move over to the two top. For our coffee's both my fiance and I decided to go with Americano's while my fiances' mother went with a mocha and her dad went with a decaffeinated vanilla cappuccino. It took a little while for our drinks to come out to us and they all came out one at a time which was fine since none of us had anywhere to be. During that time we were also able to read more about the flatiron and how they have to bring their food up daily and that all that they have to cook with is an induction burner. I thought that was pretty cool and gave me a better perspective on the the place. My Americano ended up being pretty good, it was strong but smooth and the warmth of it was nice after being out in the rain. The good sentiments about our coffees were from everyone and my fiance's mom especially loved her mocha. She described it as a good coffee with just enough chocalate that you could taste it but not so much that it is overly sweet. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. The coffee was good and the shop charming and maybe the next time that I come back we will be hungry enough to try some of the delicious looking food. read more

The appeal of a local coffee spot in a spooky ghost ghost town is hard to ignore. However- I am leery of the Flatiron hype.... I found the service to be okay, my Iced Americana to be "alright" and the cappuccino to be standard. If you seek some mid-day caffeine rejuvenation, definitely hit up the Flatiron. However, if you are thinking of making a special trip, I suggest you to keep on trekking to Sedona. On a positive note, the decor was adorable and they had access to a lovely outdoor patio right across the way. In this sleepy, slow town, this place is a gem among many. We stopped in yesterday on our way out of town. I had a coffee and breakfast burrito and my sister had a coffee and oatmeal. The local hot sauce that they bring from the veggie supplier is beyond amazing. It's the one with the homemade label on the shelf. The burrito was great and my sister loved her oatmeal. My meal came with two slices of the juiciest yellow watermelon I'd ever had. Quick, delicious, local. What more could you ask for?! read more

Was visiting the town for the day and was wanting a coffee, so my boyfriend and I decided to try this place. When I asked if I could do an iced mocha the barista stated that they only do iced during the summer for seasonal purposes but then proceed to patronize me for ordering an iced drink to his coworker and said directly in front of me "only tourist order iced coffee" under his breath. While I understand the seasonal purposes due to being a barista myself it was extremely rude to chastise a customer who deliberately chose to try this coffee shop. read more

OMG. Absolutely the best coffee ever. Kismet and I had the Latte and some kind of a pastry that was off the charts wonderful !!! Super friendly couple, Abby and Chad. These are the kind of people that make Jerome AZ so special. Over 1-million tourists and they still have a friendly smile and a big hello. We came in as vacationers and left as friends. It doesn't get any better than this. The cafe is small and totally unique. The locals come in and all of a sudden you are inside a great conversation from motorcycles to Burning Man. This place was so cute! It's a tiny little space. There are about 3 tables inside and a patio across the street. As a vegetarian I thought dining in a small town might be difficult, but this place delivered. I got the vegan chickpea salad sandwich, which was very flavorful. Under new ownership and all of the charm and quality are no more. We were here yesterday and still can't believe how rude the new owners were and how the quality of food is nowhere near where it used to be. If anyone knows what happened to the previous ownership and if they have an establishment we could support, please let me know. From the way we were greeted, treated while we ate there, and the fact that our order wasn't even correct, I don't see this staying under this ownership for very long. Bring back the old Flatiron. The employees were rude as hell and not accommodating at all. I've been to coffee shops around the world and ask for my hot teas iced. Everybody says yes. These employees, however, refused. Um, okay, generic iced Nestea it is I guess. London Fog was solid, but this was only after one of the baristas argued with my mom about how many pumps of sweetener she should get (he scoffed "we aren't Starbucks", but no kidding - Starbucks has more than decent service) I'll take my service where I feel welcomed. We stayed at the apartment above the cafe for one night. Super fun experience and the place was adorable. Had breakfast and coffee the next morning downstairs. Our coffees were probably the best we've ever had (and we try a lot of different coffee places!). The tofu breakfast tacos were delicious. Only thing was I got a slightly unwelcoming vibe downstairs. The Flatiron is very tiny, but fortunately there weren't too many patrons on this particular Sunday morning. We didn't feel like coffee so we asked for a couple of waters. We were directed to a self-serve station. The place is small so I scooted past the employee to get a couple of waters. We were then also told to order at the counter when we were ready. So I stood up and walked 2 feet to place my order. About 30 minutes later our food came out. I had the breakfast burrito and my friend had the bagel sandwich. It was okay and the ingredients were fresh, but they were a little bland. I went up to the counter to pay and the only options for tipping were 18%, 20%, and 25%. Kind of ridiculous considering the only service I had were directions on how to serve myself. Overall it's an okay breakfast place in a 5 star town. read more
