Asylum Restaurant was chosen by our tour guide as our Jerome lunch stop and we really liked it! The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived on a Friday, and the interior was beautiful. It was located inside a hotel, which used to be a hospital and was rumored to be haunted. I loved the antique lighting fixtures and big gold-framed paintings on the walls. For drinks, I got the Lavender Grove Spritz, which was a little tart but tasty. For food, I ordered the Spicy Chicken Tenderloin Salad. This was so good for lunch - the perfect mix of healthy veggies and crispy buffalo chicken tenderloins. My friends loved their food as well including the Caesar Salad with Shrimp, Salmon Salad, Roasted Turkey Breast Sandwich, Flank Steak Sandwich, and French Fries. There was a bit of a mixup with chicken being left off one of the salads, but our server offered a complimentary dessert to compensate. I shared the Asylum Creme Brulee' for dessert with a friend, and it was amazing! The soft texture of the vanilla bean custard was perfect with crunchy caramelized sugar on top. We stopped by The Asylum inside the Jerome Grand Hotel for drinks, mostly to check out the location since it used to be a hospital. The decor is awesome and really plays up that old-school, spooky history effectively. We sat at the bar and our bartender was fantastic, but things got weird fast because the manager was incredibly rude, which made the whole atmosphere super awkward. We had a couple of drink my wife and I at the bar, I ordered a Bloody Mary and cannot remember what my wife ordered, the bartender very friendly started the Bloody Mary and grab the bacon with his hand and shovel in my drink, then grab a pickle from a jar with is bare hands and lay on the counter of the bar (not on a napkin but on the rubber mat where the drinks can be return), grab a couple of olive and put all together with bare hands, while we were sitting at the bar he made a a few Bloody Mary the same way and never washed is hands, we were at the bar for an hour, very disgusting. It stops there, service bad, and I have a problem with a place that says "no substitutions and no omissions" on the MEMU they're "meant to help their cooking staff". That is the most ridiculous thing I ever saw on a menu. Like I don't work for you if I want no onions or something then that's that. Rubbed me the wrong way also 3.5 cc fee is ludicrous just charge more for your food instead of looking stupid. We decided to drink our drinks and leave so I have no idea if the food is good but wow just learn some manners. Incredible dining experience, better than the last time I was there 6 years ago. Joseph was our bartender and he was bubbly, funny, and delightful, also very attentive to our needs. The drinks were perfectly satiating and well crafted. The tofu in the squash was actually way more delicious than I anticipated, and the sauce was mouth watering. My boyfriend got the grilled shrimp with brown rice and verde chili sauce and he said the shrimp was grilled perfectly. The size of the shrimp was larger than he'd expected and it was the perfect amount of shrimp to fill him up. Thank you shout out to Joy who booked our reservation and kindly greeted us upon arrival and sat us down promptly. I've never been so disappointed in all my life considering what we paid for a meal. I took my entire family there because we had gone once before 3-4 years ago so we were looking forward to it. I think it would be safe to say the nicest part of our meal was the chips and guacamole. It took them 40 minutes to bring our entrées and I ordered the filet mignon that came to my table "Well Done" when I had asked for it to be medium rare. The waiter scraped the fillet off of my plate and told me I could keep the sides and he would get me a new fillet. 40 minutes later after my family was done eating they finally brought out my fillet. To solve my dis-satisfaction, they offered me a free crème brûlée that they scraped out of a dish into a plastic container because they didn't want to give me the bowl that it was cooked in. What I was given couldn't have possibly been the entire Desert. It looks like they gave me what was left from somebody else's dish. They didn't offer to take my entrée off my bill and we walked out with a $300 charge. Yeah the manager didn't even offer to help. And they hit us with the tip after taxes; an automatic charge, regardless of how I felt They couldn't pay me to eat there again, but I will say the guacamole was great. Unfortunately, that's all that was great. -- severely disappointed. read more

If you're not familiar, the Asylum Restaurant is located inside the Jerome Grand Hotel, which used to be the United Verde Hospital and is said to be haunted. While dining with friends in Jerome, we decided to stop by for a drink and see if we could sense any eerie vibes. Upon our arrival, we ascended the grand staircase and were seated inside, where Mateo served us. We asked about the restaurant's history as a hospital, and Mateo let us know the dining area we were seated in had once been the doctors' offices. We asked if he had any ghost stories, and he shared a few intriguing tales. We ordered drinks and just soaked up the atmosphere, with the stunning views and spooky ambiance. We'll definitely consider returning for dinner and possibly staying overnight at the hotel, as we've heard that's where most of the spooky stuff occurs. read more

We chose Asylum at the Jerome Grand Hotel over the Haunted Burger mostly because they were not busy whereas Haunted had about a 2 hour wait for lunch. When we arrived, we realized that Asylum is a significantly more upscale dining establishment. This worked out nicely. We were seated immediately. Service was prompt, professional and friendly. I had a Bacon Lettuce Tomato Avocado Cheese sandwich on ciabatta which was fantastic and paired with fries that were OK. I should have asked them to redo the fries but, alas, I didn't. The great sandwich made it worth it for me. My grandson liked his salad and and his craft black cherry soda. My wife liked her artichoke. The view from the dining room down the Jerome hillside is breathtaking. Next time we visit Jerome with our grandson, we'll probably stay in the Jerome Grand Hotel as he loves the haunted legacy of it all. read more

Great experience! The Ambiance is amazing with magnificent views. Finding it was tricky as the signage was poor. One tip: Don't be afraid to drive all the way up, even past the front door! Lots of parking up there people are scared to chance. (You'll understand when you get there) The historic building is something to see. The service was friendly and fast but I can see it will be crowded at peek times. The food was good, everyone enjoyed their different meals but nothing really jumped out. The workout you get going up the hill for this restaurant is sooo worth it. We stopped by for lunch after having an adventurous day in town and we were starving. We were quickly seated right on the patio and we had such a magnificent view. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The menu had plenty of options and it was so hard for me to pick one dish, everything sounded good. I ended up ordering a grape soda and a burger and my friend had the buffalo wings. The food didn't take too long to come out and we were amazed by the presentation of it all. My burger was huge and smelled soo good.. The fries were perfect as they were hot and crispy. The burger was super juicy and it got to be really messy, but a good type of messy. The buffalo wings were super flavorful and had the right amount of sauce on top. The bathroom were clean and kinda eerie. I think the ghosts hang out in there. I was the only one in the bathroom at the time so I was very spooked out... Anyways I recommend this place!! The white onions overpowered the salsa- In the past we have loved the Roasted Butternut soup. As we took a bite we both realized it was a different recipe and we DID NOT like it.l I have the original Asylum recipe. Tiny bit of cinnamon and NO green onion. We were walking around Jerome and needed some lunch. We headed up to the hotel high up on the hill just to check it out. The host came out to talk to us, she was not pushy at all. She was offering us the option to come in and look around at the fabulous old Timey bar and lobby area. Everything about our dining experience was wonderful. A beautiful drive up to the hotel. A table with an amazing view. Our waiter was on top of it the minute we sat down. The bar was not busy, yet getting service was impossible. We would get part of our order, but then waited 10 minutes for the rest. I can't tell you how many people that wanted drinks walked out. Seems there was no management support for the bartender. Tried to order some snacks, but that opportunity never came. Ended up walking down the hill to grab something to eat. The good: I love the atmosphere in this old building. It has a wonderful view across the valley, but that is about all that is good for this place. The bad: The first thing we noticed was that everything on the menu is pretty pricey. I would expect that for a nice restaurant. However, when we got our appetizers (bruschetta) there was a giant black hair on the food. The server, when informed by another staff that our appetizer had a hair in it, responded with, "Oh for fks sake." I don't think he realized we could see and hear everything. When our chicken alfredo and pasta came out, it did not look appetizing. The chicken was odd-looking and squishy. It did not taste good at all. The pasta was also pretty gross for a $38 meal. It tasted like someone dumped a can of grocery store alfredo onto our pasta or something. And to top it off the Pepsi was flat and didn't even get a single refill. For a place with $20 appetizers and $40-60+ entrees, it is not worth it. Staff aren't attentive. Food is gross and overpriced. Staff also don't seem to be very good with kitchen hygiene. I don't have anything good to say except that it has a nice view. I wish we had just gone to a different place in town. It was my boyfriend's birthday, too, and the portion of food that he did eat hurt his stomach later on that night. The more I think it the more upset I get that I drove my bf 3 hours to this place for a birthday meal that I couldnt even eat and that made him sick. read more

Jerome is a very cool town to visit. The Asylum Restaurant stands out. Beautiful cliffside view. We went to the restaurant around 5pm and it was nearly empty. I ordered the sea bass. Unfortunately, I had to send it back. The fish was raw and was not fresh. Carrots were hard and barely cooked. Our server was excellent though. He made sure I got a new order right away and was polite. The 2nd order was perfect. Fish was cooked properly. The sides were good too. My partner enjoyed his food. We had an appetizer, 2 entrees and 2 mixed drinks. The total came to over $200. Although the service and restaurant ambiance were excellent, I was more wowed by the prices and not the food. Happy I tried this place at least 1 time. I will likely not be back. read more

Great place to eat when in Jerome. The food has always been delicious. This time tried the mushroom bacon burger. When the weather permits, sit outside on their patio to enjoy the beautiful view of the valley. Staff is always very friendly and fun.
