This place is great! It's a small, well decorated spot with great vegetarian options. The bar only has three seats, and the TV and music weren't working when I visited, which was unfortunate. I waited a year to come back to visit Sedona and Jerome and constantly thought of the Chicken Mole Enchiladas that we had the first time we visited in December 2023. Unfortunately we over-hyped the enchiladas and were disappointed that the flavor wasn't as good as we remembered. However, the food was still good overall. Horchata is flavorful and a must-get. I stopped by for a quick lunch with my toddler, and we were seated immediately. My waitress was extremely sweet and fast with our service. I ordered fajitas and they came out less than 15 minutes later! The fajitas were PHENOMENAL, literally the best I've ever had. I'm originally from Northern Texas, and I was pleasantly surprised to find sopapillas on the menu, which is a Mexican delicacy hard to find anywhere in the Valley. Came here on a Saturday in August for lunch. It wasn't busy, we were seated immediately. There's paid parking right out front. The dining area is clean with lots of stuff on the walls to gaze at until the food arrives, which wasn't long. I ordered the Native Enchiladas and I shared fried ice cream with my wife. Once again after the pandemic, we came here. Vaqueros is a delightful place to eat. We came here on our first visit to Sedona and it was one of the highlights of our trip. Then the pandemic hit and we haven't been back until now. We're glad we did Vaqueros is part of a three-restaurant, family owned chain that also includes Calavera in Oakwood. It is a pleasure to see an entire family work so harmoniously together and provide truly outstanding service and food. Even their young son was proudly strutting between the counter and the kitchen bringing utensils. The decor is amazing, Mexican tiles, woodwork and stained glass decor. My husband ordered the huevos rancheros and was disappointed. The mixture wouldn't pass through the straw due to a rush blending job. And it didn't taste like it contained alcohol. When I "finished" the drink, the level had gone down less than a half inch and ice was left. Alcohol doesn't freeze, so I KNOW it didn't contain alcohol. My wife mentioned to me her strawberry margarita didn't taste like it contained alcohol either and did not touch it after a sip. Her margarita was over filled and spilled on the menu when it was served. The server would not refund the purchase of those and did not stop to discuss our inquiry. My wife ordered a ground beef taco but was given a shredded beef taco. She also ordered a Chile Relleno Deluxe, which comes with the option of red or green sauce. The server didn't mention this and just served her poblano with green sauce. We were left waiting quite a while to pay while she spoke with other customers about local city council issues with another table. A taco , a Chile Relleno Deluxe, a Carne Asada plate, and two margaritas was $97.47 w tax after the tip. Looking at the menu online now, that should've been $66 before tax and tip. read more

Vaqueros Grill and Cantina Jerome AZ I have had this restaurant on my list to try for a while and finally had the opportunity to do just that. The place is really well decorated and quite "cute". Small and quaint. We ordered to different dinners to try some of our own favorite Mexican food flavors favorites. Best part was, we had a 50% off one meal with the stipulation that two meals and two drinks were purchased. We complied with that. One meal was $19.00, one meal was $17.00, one $5.00 beer and a $6.00 beer. I met all the coupon stipulations. It went down hill fast after we finished eating and I received the bill. The bill came out with charges different than what was on the menu. $19.67, 17.60, $5.18 and $6.21. While I figured what the extra amount might be, I wasn't going to assume, so I asked the server )of which his name on the receipt was "Trueblood"). He initially said he didn't know; that is just "what the cash registered does". So I asked if they were credit card use charges and he said yes. So I asked that if I used cash, would the charges be subtracted and he said yes. I was just curious as I have never seen in any restaurant those charges showing up prior to the customer actually providing the type of payment. So, I hand him my credit card, he runs it, then brings me the final bill. The credit card charges stayed on the menu amounts BUT THE 50% OFF WAS NOT CALCULATED AT 50% off. I took the less expensive meal and found the 50% should have been $8.80 (50% of 17.60). The bill showed the discount as "50% HAPPY" - $4.40". Half of what it should have been. So I questioned "Trueblood" again and the guy literally lost it. He said he didn't know why it showed up like that and since it was a cash register "deal", there was nothing he could do about it. I said surely you are kidding me. If you are the server in a restaurant you should know how all this works and his excuse was "he'd only been employed there for 2 days" of which I highly doubted as his knowledge of the food and drinks did not seem to come from someone that new to the restaurant AND he was the only front of the store employee the whole time we were there. I struggled with what I should do at that point and said something like it is not right.... He then decided he was done talking to me, started waving me off as he walked away and said "you can leave now and never come back". I hesitated but we politely left. I almost stopped payment on my credit card but decided if I would first try and get ahold of the manager or owner. I sent an email and was finally able to leave a message with a live person and this was after many unanswered calls. After 5 days, no response so this was my only option left (besides word of mouth) to alert how the transaction was altered even though the rules of the game were clearly stated AND FOLLOWED ON MY PART. MY ONLY MISTAKE IS I TIPPED HIM ANYWAY. Just beware. I can't imagine this hasn't happened before but probably not noticed. Such a shame. read more
