Some of the food was absolutely amazing! The only thing that left me a little curious was that the shrimp were extremely fishy tasting and smelling. I took one bite and it didn't taste bad but it smelled so much that I was afraid to eat it so I threw it out. Now I had takeout so I couldn't go to a server and discuss the problem. I did call and they were very nice and explained that the shrimp were totally fine and that's how their shrimp is cooked. (No thank you.) The old location was charming, this location is cold, cafeteria like with harsh lighting. The decor is sophmoric.FOOD; the rice has always been bland but the other items made up for it. Now going there is like going to Vegas, it's a gamble. Depending on who is cooking it can be either good or walk out bad. How do you burn carnitas and fish?! The salsa varies a lot guess it depends on their mood. STAFF; Seriously, let the staff go and hire professionals. They all do the minimum, my wife and I like to have dessert, never have they mentioned what they have. Now I look for cake on the counter, best buy there at $6 for a huge slice that feeds us both. The flan is ok. The middle age server, Taco(?) acts like he is swamped even when its quiet. The older lady needs to retire as she never looks happy(unless you're leaving a big tip!) PRICE, generally fair considering what you're getting. $80. for two double shots of tequila seems high. Taco doesn't always ring things up right and weirdly it's always in their favor. Overall; don't be surprised to see this place on a future Gordon Ramsey episode. For good Mexican try Casa Sanchez, better food (not burnt!), much nicer atmosphere, easier parking and helpful staff. read more

As an American that was raised in Puebla Mexico- good and authentic hometown food is hard to come by and Mayas brought back nostalgia. I'm surprised the restaurant was more packed because this place is packed with flavor. Immediately upon entering we were warmly greeted and provided drinks. It didn't take long to scan their menu and settle on enchiladas. When the food came out it looked just like my abuela had loaded up my plate and no offense abuelita Bis but the food was a knockout compared to hers and she knew food! The prices are beyond reasonable, the portions are perfect the flavor is on point and the staff are friendly and attentive. I'm not sure if this is family owned and run but that's the feel I got. If you have a hankering for something south of the border- I recommend you stop in and try some feel good food that will feed your soul. read more

This restaurant had very good service considering we were a larger than average group. It was my first time here and quite frankly, didn't know it even existed! It is tucked away in a strip mall off the main touristy area of downtown Prescott (aka Whiskey Row) and unless you know, how would you know??? There was plenty of parking when I arrived at 11:15, but due to several other eateries, the lot is said to fill up quickly during lunch/dinner hours. I was early, so I guess I beat the lunchtime crowd. Frank's is much bigger than it appears from the outside and it is painted in very vivid colors that give off them Mexican vibes upon entry. It is actually quite cheerful! I was meeting up with a large group and was immediately directed to a room that was off to the back part of the restaurant. Menus were brought out as the room filled up and drink orders were taken as soon as we were seated. Chips and salsa were on all tables and though they looked fresh, I'm not too sure that the chips actually were since they weren't warm and tasted a bit stale. Salsa was a lot of tomato with a bit of a bite to it, but it was more like pepper than chile spice. I requested something spicier and the server quickly brought it out to me (in a tiny little metal cup that wasn't big enough to dip chips into). Our server was very pleasant and managed to take all our orders in a very efficient manner. Food came out in average time. I had read reviews prior to showing up and decided I would keep it safe. I ordered the Chorizo breakfast plate (served all day), which includes rice and beans, but I opted to skip the rice and to my surprise I was given hash browns instead! The chorizo was good, beans okay, and the potatoes were super salty! My dish also included tortillas and I chose flour. Everyone else in our group appeared to have ordered one of the lunch specials ($10.99) and the enchiladas looked exactly as other reviewers had posted. The sauce was very red and in my opinion looked like ketchup! The women at my table all said the sauce was okay, but I just couldn't get over the color! Chicken enchiladas were loaded with chicken, but chicken looked like it would've tasted very bland. Just plain pieces of chicken. No melted cheese. No nothing, other than very red sauce poured over the top of them... So glad I did my homework the night before! Individual checks were provided, so that made it easy for all of us to know our exact tab without having to break out the calculators! Two stars are for the service and I would give five, but I was here to review the food too! I can honestly say that I won't be going back to Frank's anytime soon. This place is the real deal Mexican food. Reminds of a place down in Tucson called El Minuto Cafe. Salsa is perfectly spicy. The enchilada sauce is amazing. I have been to Frank's several times. First couple of times the food and service were good. Then the service got really bad. I'm a very good tipper and mostly a forgiving and polite diner. Several visits since, and my experiences have done an aboutface. Service, especially when not that busy, has been sorely inattentive. It seems as if the family is being taken advantage of by younger members. NO WORK ETHIC. That is unfortunately a common issue these days. I must say it did not skip a generation either. Bad food that should have been comped, was not. That shows inattentive customer service. Sorry to say we must scratch Frank's place off our list permanently. read more

Great food and quick service! Had dinner 9/6/25 and were first time customers. Chicken fajitas were tasty and generous. The same can be said for the chicken enchilada and beef taco combo with rice and beans. Pretty large place with many tables surprised us since from the outside the place looks small. Quickly...lived in Prescott for 41 years and eaten at every Mexican restaurant in the area. Lived in Phoenix, Santa Barbara and Denver as well and ate at most Mexican restaurants in those cities. We tried Franks several weeks ago and were impressed. Figured we'd try again to look for consistency. Very good once again. Not too busy, clean, great staff reasonable prices and the food was excellent. One can forecast how good a Mexican meal will be by the chips, salsa, beans and rice. All are way above average. Best Chili Relleno you'll ever eat! Chicken Enchiladas with green sauce and sour cream were outstanding. (Wifey confirmed freshly cooked chicken). Small location with limited seating that's a bit tight, but we made it work. Stingy with drinks- no free refills, and I think even my iced tea only had one free refill. Menu had many options. I got the Chile rellano and was disappointed with the lack of spiciness. I'm assuming they are not made in house so I can't really blame the restaurant for the spice level. Beans & rice were standard sides- nothing memorable either way. About 20-30 minutes after we got there, it really filled up, and it was very noisy. I had a hard time hearing my companions at times, and part of that was from (I assume) a female owner who was *very* loudly talking with (I assume) a regular. Women's bathroom was icky. HORRIBLE SERVICE. My family and I stopped in real quick thinking we were going to run into some good Mexican food. The food was a 5/10 but that was the least of what I was worried about. The older lady upfront acted like it was a bother to serve us. I asked for cheese with my burrito she brought it to me on the side and when i mentioned I wanted it inside my burrito she said "too late", when I asked for plastic silver ware she made a complaint. The food was yummy and authentic, the service was friendly and the atmosphere is great. There is a whole vegetarian/ vegan section to the menu. Everything is made from scratch and to order. I had the potato and nopales tacos and they were amazing. My husband had the chicken Enchiladas and thought they were great. We ordered guacamole and they went behind the counter and made it. It was yummy. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. The inside of the restaurant is bright and cheerful and the service is excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant. Good food. Intimate restaurant. Service is fun and personal. Food is authentic and good, but more than that there is a fun vibe that abounds. WARNING, the salsa is hot, hot, hot. Chips are smaller, more bite size, which I liked, but the salsa was just to hot for me. Also too hot for my son, who likes hot sauces. You have been warned. Food details- Salsa - hot, good flavor if you can stand the heat. Guac - love the diced tomato and diced onions, maybe needed a little lemon juice and salt, but that may just be my personal preference. Popular local spot, Average Mexican food, BYOB I've eaten at hundreds of Mexican restaurants all over the country, and believe me this place has average Mexican food. More on that below. A couple of things to note: First, the sign on the outside says "Franks Restaurant", but you are in the right place. Second, you can bring your own liquor, and very conveniently there is a nice liquor store right next store. Mayas, or Franks, is a cool place. Very casual, popular with the locals (does get busy, and dining room is not huge), super friendly staff (they treat customers like family), and hey, you can bring your own booze! I mean what's not to like, right? The menu covers pretty much all the Mexican standards. I find the food is a bit hit or miss depending on what you order. For example, the salsa and the cheese enchiladas are actually better than average. But the mole enchiladas and the refried beans are ho-hum. (The mole sauce is a little bit gritty, but does have a nice spice level. And the chicken is somewhat bland.) Also note they do not cook with lard, which works okay for some dishes but not others. For me, refried beans without lard will never, ever be good. The prices are very fair - lower than average for the downtown Prescott area restaurants. And the portions are generous. read more

Small unassuming place, brightly painted that brings joy to your heart as soon as you see it! Neely remodeled inside and outside seating added during the pandemic. We love it!! We stopped here to eat while passing through. The place is called Frank's now. It is beautifully decorated and the staff were so nice. The place was pretty busy for a Wednesday night, which tells you something. I had a shredded beef taco and a cheese enchilada. The hubby had a chicken taco and potato enchilada. The tacos were huge and very tasty. The enchilada sauce was ok, but needed something more. The beans and rice were flavorful. The prices were very reasonable. First time eating at this restaurant. The inside was clean and spacious. I ordered their chile relleno and tamale plate, it comes with rice and beans. I ordered a side of tortillas. The chille relleno was okay, but had no flavor. I think the tamale was cheese and rajas (green peppers)... I say this because it was topped with tons of cheese, some tasteless green salsa and it was under cooked!!! I thought well maybe it's all this cheese that makes it mushy and watery... but it just didn't taste right. So I decided to just eat the chile relleno with my tortillas. Well the tortillas were barely warm and breaking from the creases where they were folded from the store package. That really just made this whole dish go down the drain.
