We also ordered the mussels w Parmesan (rich and delicious), the salmon tacos -large, the Beef and garlic, and the shisito peppers. The shishito peppers were unusual, slightly sweet and had other vegetables. The salmon tacos were a generous portion, the beef and garlic contained large pieces of garlic amongst the sauce for the chunked beef. The Parmesan mussels are quite rich and delicious. The tale of the chorizo hash... I was in town visiting family. We have tried to eat here a couple times before, but could never get in. We had a reservation and were excited to finally try it! I ordered the Chorizo Hash and it came out as a plate of ground chorizo with a very small amount of diced potatoes. I assume what happened was they batched it with other orders and mine was the end of the pan. It happens. No big deal. I asked the waiter for some additional potatoes as it was unbalanced and he started counting potatoes in my dish!!! He got up to 5 and then looked at me like I was the idiot... this is after we sat there for 20 minutes before he even took our order. We wanted to have a drink or two first, but felt compelled to order as service was slow already. We made the right call... food took a while to come. We also had Brisket Tacos, which were decent but not warm. The margarita had soda in it... a travesty. All in all the food was average but the attitude of the waiter ruined the experience. I had high expectations. We will give it a whirl again at some point and if that is pleasant, I will update this review. I just couldn't let this service slide... he was TERRIBLE. read more

My boyfriend and I took a trip out to AZ and found this place on Reddit after a 4hr hike in Senoda-- we would agree that it definitely lives up to the hype! And it was super busy when we went on a Monday night, which should already say a lot. 100% suggesting making a reservation as this place is busyyy For appetizers, we ordered spinach artichoke dip & crab cakes from the tapas menu, and for our mains we got the Nuevo Camarones, Tri Tip + Mac, and Tandoori Salmon. Crab Cakes: Really good crab cakes, moist, flavorful, great portion for the price & it even included chips! Wish it came with a wedge or two of lemon but still super yummy. Spinach Artichoke Dip: Super generous portion, amazing flavor, cheese was super melty & just overall a really comforting and tasty appetizer. If you are thinking of ordering this to share between two people, you might get full off of this appetizer alone. Nuevo Camarones: HUGE portion, lowkey enough for two people to share, and comes with bread and about 6 pieces of jumbo sized shrimp. Awesome presentation and flavor, it's almost like a southwest spin on shrimp alfredo but with pearl couscous. Super fun and flavorful dish that I would order again. Jammin Tri-Trip and Mac: Mid, tri tip was overcooked and underseasoned, and the mac and cheese was bland and made with penne. I'm trying not to dog on this dish more than necessary because we sent it back, but I would skip and order something else if you were eyeing this one. Our lovely server Jennie offered a replacement so we got the Tandoori Salmon. Tandoori Salmon: Amazing!! And a great step up from the Tri Tip & Mac as a redemption meal. Salmon was cooked perfectly, portion was massive, and the flavors I typically wouldn't envision together worked out super well to make a delicious meal. The "tandoori" element in the dish is a lightly curried cream sauce, not spicy and definitely not too heavy for those who are feeling more adventurous without being overwhelmed. My boyfriend scraped the plate clean! We did not get dessert because we were so full, but it seems to be a daily/weekly feature rotation because they did not have a section for it on their menu. Hopefully on our next visit we can give it a try. Also shoutout to our server Jennie who really made an effort to provide great service and make sure we enjoyed our meal. She was awesome! TL;DR This is the highest recommended restaurant in Prescott for a reason. After driving up to Prescott from Phoenix we stopped here for a quick bite to eat. We ordered a few appetizers to share and my husband got a drink. Everything tasted great! As visitors from Southern California, we eat here every time we attend the Film Festival. Came here the Friday before Valentine's Day and we got super lucky with a last minute table! This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel and it did not disappoint. We were obsessed with the neuvos camarones with its chipotle kick and great balance between acidic and buttery flavors. The pork belly tacos are also a must try. We came in on Friday afternoon around 3pm, a party of 2, and were sat outside. It was relatively empty but it was hot. The stagnant air was hard to sit in, but we were willing to manage. To be fair we did not ask to be sat inside/outside and we didn't ask to go inside at any point, so it's on us. But they would definitely benefit from some fans/misters in the summer. we each had a drink and some water and ordered 3 tapas knowing this was just our first stop of the night. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip, the papas con queso, and the chicken flautas. The spinach and artichoke dip was SO good. By far my favorite. The papas con queso could definitely benefit from being like liquid cheese/queso. It looked and kind of tasted like shredded cheese melted on potatoes. The chicken flautas were also good! You definitely need a reservation on the weekend!! We stopped in after a day of antiquing in the area and were told there was at least an hour wait. We put our names on the list and headed to another bar for drinks. The call came in about 20min later.. they had a table for us. The food did not disappoint. We started with chorizo empanadas, shishito peppers, fried avocado and house sangria. Everything looked and smelled delicious. We added the lamb kabobs and a pasta dish, everything was flavorful and beautifully presented. Service was fast and friendly. So many choices and like smaller plates so you can order multiple items and share with the table. Biggest happy hour menu I have ever seen. The presentation of the food is absolutely stunning as well. My husband said "this is my now favorite restaurant" The beef and bleu tacos were so freaking bomb!!!! Our group had an amazing lunch at El Gato Azul. We made reservations so we didn't have to wait for a table. Service was excellent as well. Their patio was very cozy and perfect environment to relax and enjoy the food. Each of us ordered different entrees so we had a good sampling of the menu. I ordered the turkey club which is the only photo I forgot to take. It was really yummy. The ciabatta bread was perfect for this sandwich. It pains me to write something other than a positive review. Today was maybe the 4th time I ate there. The previous visits were great, 5-star. Today's was not. I had crabcakes and calamari. Well this was the 3rd time I had their crabcakes. The first two were awesome, just the best. But today was bad. All I could taste was Old Bay seasoning. Horrid. You couldn't taste any crab, only the obnoxious seasoning. I'm not a big fan of Old Bay, since it lacks subtlety, but overload of anything is just poor cooking. The calamari were just okay, but not great. The service was really poor. Our waitress gave us menus and just disappeared. Eventually I chased down another waitress, who told me that ours is not available, since she is carrying some heavy items...huh??? So eventually the other waitress took our order. It was also hard to pay up. What makes things especially poor is that we showed up as soon as they opened, not when they're slammed. So, I would hate to experience the service under the latter conditions. Dear owner or manager: This is not good. Please fix things so customers leave happy. My coworker said if I'm in Prescott THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE For a party of 7 we were sat inside. The menu is quite extensive with tapas and entrees. We stuck to tapas for our party and ordered. A good chunk of what the waitress recommended. Everything was very good no exaggeration. The standouts to me were the Sticky Chicken which was super tender and savory sauce along with the Baja pork tacos. I think the flavors of the tapas really pop. They're southwestern and acidic on the dishes that you'd expect but just really well cooked. The meats on the tacos and chicken just super tender and moist not dry. Excellent food. Slow service. My friend and I went at 7:45pm on a Friday evening, with reservation. The place was quite busy. Our order (beer, greek salad first, then 2 entrees (paella & camarones)) was taken about 15 minutes after arrival, but it was about 25 minutes after arriving when we got water, and 50 minutes after arriving when we got entrees, then salad, then beer (out of order). They didn't charge us for the beer because of its tardiness. The tented patio has cheap clear plastic walls which keep the temperatures comfortable on warm evenings, but they're ugly. This review is based on restaurants I've dined at compared to other restaurants in the Prescott/Prescott Valley area. We were visiting a family member in Prescott and friends recommended El Gato Azul as a good lunch spot with a variety of menu options. We arrived around 1:00pm on a Wednesday and the restaurant was very busy but we were seated immediately. Jourdan was our server and despite being busy, she was very attentive and pleasant, never left us waiting for anything. We ordered the olive tapenade and warm pita bread as an appetizer. It was delicious and just the right amount for three people. For our meals, one person ordered the mahi mahi wrap. The mahi, slaw, tortilla, etc. was very good, however, there was something about the sauce that was a little off for him personally. Other than that, he enjoyed it. The wrap came with a refreshing salad. Next dish was the grilled salmon tacos. This came with two average size soft tacos. She said the tacos were very tasty and ate every bite. Lastly, the chicken caprese penne dish. This came with Roma tomatoes fresh basil, garlic and olive oil. The description on the menu does not list a sauce so I assumed it was olive oil and garlic. However, it was a super sweet almos broth like so I'm not sure if it was a red wine sauce or they just added too mush sugar to the dish? I couldn't put my finger on it. But whatever they added it just made the pasta dish sweet which is not what you expect when ordering a savory pasta dish. However, the pasta and chicken were cooked perfectly. We also ordered the red sangria which they mentioned was a secret recipe. Being in the bar industry several years ago had me intrigued. It was very tasty but tasted like red wine and fruit juice. We did enjoy El Gato Azul and it does have several vegetarian options so that is a plus for us since we have family and friends who only eat vegetarian. El Gato Azul - A Mixed Bag of Great Food and Reservation Frustrations We had a reservation at El Gato Azul for 6:00 PM on a Friday evening. Arriving five minutes early, we were told the restaurant was still waiting on tables to clear. When I asked where we should wait, we were told to stand outside and they would come get us when the table was ready. As we stood on the sidewalk, another party of four arrived, announced they had a reservation, and were taken in to be seated. Naturally, I asked why they were seated ahead of us when we had been waiting. I was told their reservation was earlier--even though they arrived at 6:08 and our reservation was at 6:00. It was confusing and frustrating. Eventually, we were seated, and a staff member (Eric) offered an apology for the "misunderstanding." When I asked what misunderstanding he was referring to, he stated they had mistakenly seated another party under our reservation. As a result, we were placed at a large table for six--more space than we needed, but not exactly an improvement, as it made the cozy ambiance feel a little awkward for our party of three. Eric did try to make it right. More than I can say for the young lady at the front of the house who made excuses. On the upside, once seated, the experience improved significantly. Our waiter was fantastic--attentive, professional, and friendly. The food was truly excellent, living up to El Gato Azul's strong culinary reputation. Every dish was flavorful and well-executed. The ambiance was warm and inviting, though it would've been more enjoyable at a more appropriately sized table. This was my second visit to El Gato Azul, and unfortunately, both times have been marked by reservation issues. During our first visit, we waited nearly an hour to be seated despite having a reservation. This time, our reservation was mistakenly given to another party. In summary: great food, great service at the table (thank you Jacob)--but consistently poor front-of-house management. It's hard to fully relax and enjoy a meal when the experience starts with confusion and disorganization.
