No filter necessary. The lights in The Flat create a cool ambiance. Also my guava margarita was very tasty.

It had been several years since I'd been to the Flat, which must qualify as a historic Houston landmark by now. I went on a Wednesday, which was surprisingly bumping for middle of the week. We happened to go on reggae night, which featured a live band and dj, a Caribbean food truck, and a guy selling oils and Bob Marley paraphernalia. With an eclectic, diverse crowd and it's 70s/80s-esque neon lit lounge, the Flat is definitely an energetic yet laid back vibe. The cocktails are good with unique flavors, though admittedly a bit on the pricey side compared to some similar bars. Service is quick even with large crowds. The inside area is pretty small and hard to hear in with music, but the covered patio is the perfect place to chat and people watch. Everyone seemed to know each other, creating a lively, friendly atmosphere.

DJ Jose, is a grade a DIXK HEAD. Not a real a real DJ. Prerecorded everything. So when you ask for a song he rudely pushes you off, because he's not able to adjust it. Rather than say he CANT play the song, he talks to you crazy & sarcastically. When I say, rude... I mean RUDE & I'm from Houston. He's just rude as HELL. Does not fit in with the neighborhood vibe that The Flat offers. Everyone that works here is KIND. I love coming here because of the staff alone. He's an ASXHOLE. We've been here for hours. Round after round & he's the one off thing.

The Flat simply does not miss! This has become my go to spot for pizza and Cold Brew Martinis. It's welcoming when you frequent an establishment and receive the same friendly service each time. If there's a drink that's no longer on the menu and they have the ingredients, you'll get that drink. I like dark cozy spots, the patio is nice too.

My go-to neighbor bar for AGES!!! What's not to love about this place! Extremely laid-back, eclectic individuals and also a great date-night spot with cozy corners. I enjoy frequenting this establishment simply to engage with patrons, dance and let loose! The decor and patio are a staple in the Montrose area. I really appreciate the diverse music, curated by the owner DJ Sun, alongside the other DJ's that switch up the funk every night. Stop by for their amazing happy hour deals.

Happy hour for days! The Flat is my favorite spot for a good cocktail or frozen drink to just relax. Love their margaritas--it's the perfect place to vibe, enjoy the music, and even get a little work done when you need to escape the house.

Laid back, sexy lighting, live dj. Small and hidden; NOT social media warriors. This place has a very sexy thing about it. Bartenders are great and drinks are affordable! THIS MAY BE MY MOST FAVORITE PLACE IN HOUSTON!

One of my favorite bars in montrose! Perfect for a little frozen marg after work during the day. Then at night it's perfect to dance & have some fun. They have some of the best DJs here I love it. Bartenders are so friendly & make good drinks. 10/10

One of my favorite hangouts. Love the music, love the staff (shout out to Kali) Love the atmosphere and vibe. I always meet great people here and leave having a great time. Both inside and the patio are equally awesome areas. The pizza is really good too!

Festivities continued and we ended up at The Flat. A cozy, intimate surprisingly entertaining spot with a a lot to offer. Upon entering we were greeted with a lively DJ set. I apologize but didn't get the names but they were rocking. It seems the entire inside is a dance floor with patrons getting it in, in every corner. It really does look some someone's living room. There is a small bathroom corridor, with an outside mirror and sink accommodations. Staff were friendly and my Lemon Drop Martini was yummy. We ventured outside and to my surprise, there is a spacious backyard setting. Another bar, ample seating, and patio heating lamps. It was a chilly night, so the lamps were nice. We took in the fresh air and sipped our cocktails and conversed for a few. We could see the DJ booth through the window and decided to go back in. They were getting it in! We continued to dance the night away. Definitely a cozy, intimate spot for house party vibes inside and chill backyard vibes outside. It's on the list of places to be!

How much is valet parking? Also, are there any other "safe" free parking solutions around?

I believe it was $10 (don't quote me). "Safe" may be subjective, however there are houses across the street from the flat that I've parked in front of with no issue.

    Is there a cover?

    No!

    Do they have valet parking?

Yes, there is valet at night from Wednesday through Saturdays. Thank you.

    Is it 18 and up?

we are 21 and up, thank you

Trying to contact this business but phone number doesn't work and no reply via messages?

you can direct your questions to djsun1@me.com for a quicker response. thank you

How is it on Tuesday night's, and do they play rnb and hip hop on this day?

We have a live jazz band. Straight ahead jazz. Thanks!

Do you allow cigar smoking on your patio?

Yes, we do. Thank you for asking.

    Does this place have hookah?

    We don’t have hookah. Thanks.

Is there a dj on Friday nights and if so, what kind of music?

Yes! He's awesome!! Friday nights are international nights. They play a good mix of everything. 80s, Latin, reggae, etc.

    Is it 21+?

    Yes

The lighting is dark, intimate, and behind every level and door, there is something else going on. There is an element of discovery in every corner and a new adventure on every floor. Ever watch the movie Tron? There are some areas of BCD that feel incredibly futuristic with neon-lit interiors and a legitimate sci-fi feel in some areas. The areas are ass follows: The main bar with a DJ and a spacious dance floor, the red room with a visualizer setup of big bass and pulsating lights, the gold room with a speakeasy feel and a curated cocktail menu, with the secret room that is a unique space behind a certain set of doors. Most of the music on the main bar is good, the DJs are energetic, and the bartenders are efficient while professional. It's not the easiest place to photograph anything, but the different (hidden) spaces make it a worthy destination for discovery. The one area that I don't love is that they rock automatic gratuity. I do love how diverse the crowd is on the weekends, which is a testament to the city. Drinks are solid, but the speakeasy drinks are the ones that stand out the most. The latter definitely comes at a price, but beware that some drinks may have all the presence but not enough of the substance. __________ My photos: https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/behind-closed-doors-houston?userid=ysCBsXWPB-LAiewVS3jZfQ

We finished almost everything except a quarter of the Pan, about a quarter of the rice, and about a third of the ribeye. All were great dishes and would definitely order again.
