One of the worst burgers I've ever had. Spongy and tasteless. Overcooked from frozen. Upgraded to a side salad and was overcharged. Beer is slightly better than decent, I guess they have some interesting flavors if you're into that. Service was decent at the bar. I was here for a work lunch with a small group (7). When we visited, there were roughly 10 people in the whole place yet our service was absolutely awful. Pluses: * Great space - plenty of room for groups, plus a nice patio * Great location - if you're downtown you can likely walk, or take one of those stupid scooters. There's a Hop Stop outside too. * I liked that I could get a turkey burger. It was better than average with pesto and provolone. Minuses: * I'd really love a less card heavy side - veggies maybe or a side salad? I'd pay an up charge. * Bad service - as mentioned above, the place was empty. Our server delivered drinks and food and completely ghosted. No check back, no refill and we had to ask someone else to get our check after waiting forever. Overall - meh. Explorium certainty has a vast menu to explore, and the appetizers were the stand-out dishes. Giant pretzel with dipping sauces- so good! Buffalo cauliflower bites- crunchy and oozing with flavor. And the cheese curds- gotta love that thin breading with various cheese types. There are so many beer options and to pick a flight of 3,6,9 is the perfect way to sample all the ones you want. My two favorites were the creamsicle and blueberry. Both light, smooth and not bitter. If you are uncertain about how hot is hot, get the sauce for the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich on the side. A little goes a long way. The chicken was juicy and although I prefer a creamier coleslaw, it was still a nice compliment to the hot sauce. And the cheddar mashed potatoes are a fun swap for traditional fries. The Made Man pizza had soft and chewy crust with an impressive, hot cheese pull. If you like soft and thin crust, try it out! Our server, Prince, was very nice and attentive and Mindy at the entry desk did everything to make sure our large party had comfortable seating. Stopped in for brunch. We started with mimosas, then some coffee, and Bloody Mary's. The mimosas were good. The coffee was also good but they only had artificial sweeteners, so I just added cream. It was still very good. The Bloody Mary were quite good too. If we had more time we would have ordered the bottomless bloody Mary's. I order the hot chicken and waffles with a side of breakfast potatoes and my friend ordered the BLT frittata. The portion for the hot chicken and waffles was huge! Two whole bones less chicken breasts, breaded and fried crispy and dipped in a spicy hot sauce. The waffles under the chicken were fantastic! Little crunchy bits went very well with the sweet and spicy chicken. I wish there were more berries and syrup. The potatoes were also quite good. In hindsight, I wish I had ordered a fried egg on top. I had a bite of the BLT frittata and almost had regrets over my choice! It was really good and also a large portion. They have a pretty limited brunch menu with only six options, but they all sounded pretty good. I would like to go back and tastes some beers but we had limited time. Trust me, I'm on Untappd. There's also a full selection of liquor. FOOD: Great food selection--over the course of two visits we had the pretzel, cheese curds, bison burger, beef burger, wings, and meatloaf dinner. All were fantastic! Solid selection. The beer was 5 stars. The food was more hit and miss. In general, the seasoning is inconsistent with one meal over seasoned and several others under seasoned. Nothing was bad, but nothing that good. The French dip au jus was sweet- not my thing. The atmosphere is comfortable with indoor and outdoor options. I'll come back for the beer and keep my food expectations low. read more

A new favorite! We checked this place out for the first time last weekend and loved it. We sat in the "tunnel" area. The sound echos a bit, but it's a cool space. At our table we had: The Made Man pizza, Ceasar salad, cream of turkey and rice soup (soup du jour), steak cacio e pepe (special), The Beast burger, and a couple different beers. I'm very disappointed in myself for not coming here earlier! This is.... you guessed it a vibe! I'm going to be real I only got drinks here so for this review I'm only focusing on drinks. Ok, so we rolled up here after a long walk throughout the city. Originally we were going to go somewhere else but decided to end our day here. Lets just say this was one of the best decisions I've made in awhile! The atmosphere was amazing and social distancing was enforced. They have outdoor seating with a fireplace and plenty of space indoors. Now the drinks are honestly a vibe match to the atmosphere! There are so many to choose from and all of them have their unique beauty. I ordered a Hefeweizen and a coconut Porter and loved them both! My two buddies ordered IPAs and enjoyed them so much they ordered them again. Overall I can not even fathom any criticism to this place when it comes to drinks and atmosphere! Next time I'll definitely try the food, but Explorium is now one of my favorite pubs in Milwaukee! read more

Amazing beer. Incredible food. Beautiful space. We visited for the first time this past weekend, and instantly felt right at home when we walked in. We frequent the Southridge location, and were very happy to see everything we love about Explorium translated over to the new Third Ward location! We were in around brunch time and ended up trying two of the pizzas on the menu. We had the Made Man and the Neapolitan Daisy. Both were incredible! I can definitely see us getting more pizzas from Explorium in the future. Overall the Third Ward location is great! We can't wait to come back during nicer weather so we can enjoy the outdoor space they have! read more

After taking a long walk downtown to soak in the holiday lights, it was time check out the new Explorium Brewpub in the Pritzlaff Building. The inside was much more spacious than I imagined from looking at it, with high ceilings and exposed brick (both of which make my millennial heart swoon!). I had a Mango Hefeweizen beer which I really enjoyed, and the food menu was expansive for a pub. Too, our waitress Alyssa was incredible! There's plenty of room to space out from other table, hand sanitizer was plentiful, and staff wore masks. It's a definitely COVID-conscious place, which is helpful to know going into a long winter. Stopped by Explorium this past Saturday, and it was definitely an interesting experience. We were kicking off using our pub passes, but wanted to get food and stay for more than 1 beer each. It was packed when we got in and found two seats at the bar. It quickly became less busy, so the food ended up coming out super quickly! We ordered our first beers - the pb stout and a sour, and they were delicious. The downside of our visit was that we were given the check right away without asking if we wanted anything else. As soon as I said we were planning on multiple beers, they took it back. When we were ready to order a second beer, it took about 20ish minutes to order again after our drinks sat empty that whole time. The bar was hardly busy at that time, so we weren't sure what was happening. They weren't closing for at least another hour. I had also asked for a glass of water twice and the bartender would forget each time, so I asked a different bartender a third time and she got it right away. I think with so many brewery/restaurant options in Milwaukee, we may only come to Explorium if there's a beer we're really looking to try. I'm glad we stopped by, but definitely not the experience we were hoping to have on our Saturday evening. read more

After reading other reviews and browsing the menu, I was excited to check out this spot and I'm happy to say I was not disappointed! I had a friend visiting town so we made a reservation for 2. As soon as we walked inside, we were greeted with high ceilings, brick, and even some greenery! We were seated indoors near the bar (which had some plexiglass separation as a COVID precaution ). Great variety of seating choices ranging from booths to high tops. The service was friendly and attentive, promptly taking drink orders and repeatedly checking in (not excessively, very well done). To start, we ordered drinks, I, a Mango Hefeweizen and my friend, one of their whiskey cocktails. Awesome drink menu and definitely something for everyone! Next, we ordered an appetizer, salad, and pizza to share. As we're meat lovers, we did not shy away from The Made Man pizza, and happily took some leftovers home. What a great experience! Stopped in last week during a warmish spring day. We got a table in the tunnel. This is a very unique space, it has large openings at each end for great air flow with a covered roof to keep out the elements. They also had heaters in the ceiling to give a little needed warmth. I got a flight of beers which were all very tasty, including the Third Ward IPA. We wanted a snack and our waiter recommended the pizza. He was right, it was very good and flavorful. They have another outdoor space off the tunnel that has fire features. Had a great time and will definitely be back. read more

Was in town for a conference, and had one night where I had to fly solo. I am a beer nerd, so I sought out a nearby brewpub to the hotel. This was my first brewery experience in Milwaukee for this particular trip - I had many others - and this was by far the best. Menus are on QR code things, which is pretty common. I had the french dip sandwich and two beers - the DAMN! That's Good DIPA and the Milwaukee County Stout. The french dip was just okay - sort of bland. The au jus was flavorless - not the liquid salt I want in my au jus. The beers however were the best I had in Milwaukee by a long shot. I will definitely look this place up the next time I am in town. read more

Explorium is easily one of my favorite downtown Milwaukee restaurants. Easily. If I have family or friends in town, I usually recommend eating here as it has both beer and drinks and the food menu is expansive. Sometimes I get nervous if a menu has so many types of food but they seem to do it all well! They also have various seating options: a bar with great TVs, two outdoor areas in the warmer Wisconsin months, and traditional seating--both tables/chairs and booths. For my personally, I always get the cucumber jalapeño margarita. It's not on the menu anymore but they're always so willing to make it. Another not-on-the-menu thing is the pizza bread appetizer. Delish. For main course, I've gotten various burgers, the fish fry, and a few sandwiches--I've never complained once and if I took leftovers home, I usually ate them later than same day because they were so tasty. Finally, their staff is consistently kind and accommodating. There was once one male bartender who seemed annoyed/impatient but I'll give it a pass because I think we all deserve a pass here and there! read more

I walk up to this cool gate and walk into an almost corridor that is pretty open with great airflow to the outside. There's a whole restaurant further in up some steps but the bar is as seen here on the ground floor right at the entrance. The bartender was missing and it was not particularly easy to get their attention from the restaurant. They also seemed inconvenienced and not overly friendly or inviting. Was restrictive on me trying samples when I said I was interested in trying a few things and taking to go. I ended up needing to order full flight pours and rushing through just to try more than 1 or 2. Wasn't really talkative or wanting to explain anything. So putting the employee aside the atmosphere was cool and different and the beer was tasty. They had some good flavors of fruited sours and fruited wheat or saison styles. Some interesting mix of flavors. I like the open air atmosphere. Just wish the bartender was more welcoming and accommodating. read more

I have always wanted to checkout Explorium Brewpub but never made my way out to Greendale. To my surprise, my boyfriend and I stumbled upon the Third Ward location on opening night and it's safe to say we were not disappointed. It was day one and things were already running like clockwork. There are so many beer options, I highly recommend the double IPA. Also, be sure to read their drink descriptions, they're hilarious yet thoughtful. As far as setup, the place is huge and there are tons of different seating options depending on what you're looking for (tables, indoor, outdoor, bar, etc.). We didn't check out the food this time but will definitely be back for the full experience! This was an excellent place for lunch. We took a train ride from Chicago to have lunch in Milwaukee to have lunch because I like riding trains. This place opened a year ago. The food was delicious. I enjoyed the Buffalo wings. My gf enjoyed the Berry Chicken Salad. I had a root beer float for dessert. There are plenty of choices so there is something for everyone. Olivia provided exceptional service. She checked on us several times and brought drink refills. The restaurant was not busy. But in my experience this is usually when you get poor service.
