We stumbled into Good City Brewing while we were just brewery hopping in town; it was a Friday afternoon, so it was pretty quiet - but we loved it! Service was good as usual. Beer selection was good. The Oktoberfest was easy drinking. We had burgers and they were really good, fries included which is always nice. It was pretty quiet, but it hasn't been as busy lately so the music seemed louder than usual. One thing I want to make note of: they are charging a 3% "restaurant fee" now on top of tip and tax (for non-food items). It's not my favorite thing to be hit with an extra fee but I guess it's becoming standard for the restaurant industry. ETA: Apparently the charge is on (some) menus. It wasn't on the one we received. We have been coming to Good City for years and it's always a great place for a beer, a cocktail, and some food. My go to is always a burger (bacon brew burger) with Curry fries (best fries in the area), but I got a Rueben with a Bloody Mary this time. The Rueben was very good and flavorful! Came back and once again loved the food! The cheesecurds are good but nothing special - I think the cauliflower I got last time should still be the go-to for people coming. Good City Chili + Sour Cream + $1 - My daughter loves chili, but this was so watered down, it was more like a soup. A spicy soup. And the bread was so soggy by the time she started eating the dish. Since today was Friday, I got the Friday fish fry with curry fries - I do NOT recommend the curry fries, when we left our fingers were all yellow... and it stayed like that for 24 hours. Plus the fish was just okay. We did not even eat the cole slaw after tasting it. Veggie Laksa - I tried to stop my daughter from getting this, as this is NOT an asian restaurant and boy was I right. The curry was so diluted, like pale water. Not sure what kind of noodles they used. And the tofu did not even taste like tofu. Niçoise Salad - My wife liked this, but I thought the tuna was over cooked, see picture. It should just be seared... The veggies were cooked well though. Motto - Pale ale, my favorite of the two beers that I got. Fetch, West Coast IPA - This was light and refreshing. No sours, but the waiter/bartender was nice and brought my daughter a few samples - My daughter tried the Spare Time, Good City Pils and Reward. Atmosphere - Huge cool spot. 2 floors, rooftop bar, and dining. Indoor or outdoor dining. Very kid friendly. Free wifi. Free parking in the BACK, do not park on the side. I love a good happy hour and Good City did not disappoint! They do happy hour M-F 3pm-6pm, deals include $2 off drafts, $1 off wine, cider and hard seltzer. The food was delicious, you can't go wrong with their curry fries! We had some onion rings on their specialty menu and the Rachel sandwich and Rueben and everything was very tasty! TLDR: This is a place worth trying if you haven't. I don't think I have ever had a bad experience at Good City in the 5 years I have been going there. My most recent visit was with the family. There was a band downstairs turned up a little louder than we would have liked so we moved to the upstairs deck (while we still can in WI lol). Beer service was quick, their selection is amazing and always changing. I had the Home lager this time around, it's a solid beer with a great flavor. If you want something a little stauncher they have options all over the board from Pilsner to Double IPA and everything in between, they have your tastes covered. We ordered a bunch of food this time too. Giant pretzel was amazing and even better with the house creamy mustard they bring out with it. The curry popcorn served with it is good, but it had mixed reviews at the table. The cheese curds by themselves are worth talking about, but that garlic herb sauce they bring with it just takes the cake. That is some amazing food. Burgers and chicken sandwiches were the majority of the table and no one had a complaint at all. The burger meat was moist, had great taste and the Russian sriracha sauce was the right mate for it. The chicken sandwich was cooked just right and served on a brioche bun. The herb Mayo gave it just the right extra flavor kick it needed to make it disappear before leaving. All in: great staff, great food, huge selection of beers, and a location within walking distance of so many other places makes Good City a great stop for anyone looking to experience Milwaukee. read more

COVID19 There are about 4 tables on the sidewalk, and curbside pick up. We didn't see anyone picking up during our dinner. There was no indoor seating - which was kinda sad, considering how huge the restaurant is inside. All utensils/plates are disposable. Servers kept their masks on, and remained a respectful distance away while providing service. SERVICE According to our receipt, our server was Hayden O, and he was AWESOME! Mask stayed on properly, but we could still feel his caring, smiling demeanor. He also stayed a respectful distance even while taking our order, but not so much that we had difficulty hearing him (through the mask). He was prompt, nice, and just made our visit pleasant. Another server brought our food out to us for some reason in between, and as weird as it is, even with a mask on, he wasn't as friendly. FOOD We weren't exceptionally hungry and still had to ride our bikes back home, so we shared. Double cheeseburger. It was meh. We weren't asked how well to cook the meat, and it came out a little burnt. Buns were also burnt a little. Overall, I felt it was too salty. There was a pickle on the side, but also slices of pickles in the burger - which I don't like. Lettuce was shredded and falling everywhere. Curry fries. As soon as we put in the order, we could smell the curry. I love curry, so I was really expecting awesomeness with these fries. And I think it could be... but these weren't fries. Not fried potato, but baked potato. Shaped like fries. But definitely baked rather than fried. So, full of spice, but not enough oil. Cheese curds. REDEMPTION! These were awesome! Worth every penny of the $10. Oktoberfest. On tap. Bursting with flavor. Super yummy. Overall, I would have been disappointed with the food here, but the service, appetizer, and beer totally made up for it. You'll come here for beer so let's talk about that first. I'm always drawn to a coffee stout which drew my attention to the Mounting Suspicion nitro. Very enjoyable, nitro seems to never disappoint. The coffee flavor was delicious and at only 6.5%, you can have a few before everything becomes a lot more amusing. If I wasn't driving a couple hours to get home after visiting here I would have had a glass of Lab #0011 as well, a dark lager made with soft chocolate and toasted bread. It sounded most excellent. We were hungry too after a lot of walking at nearby Schlitz Audubon so I think I opted for the chicken sandwich. It wasn't memorable but not bad either. They serve mostly snacks, pizzas and salads - which I never understand, how many go to a bar and have a salad? To each rabbit their own. Every experience that'd I've had at this Good City has been quite GOOD! They have a variety of beers on tap that our bartender let us try to find the one we liked the best. It's a great spot for bigger groups that's not usually very busy and you can depend on last minute. For my graduation we had a group of 10 and they set up a table for us ahead of time even though they said they don't technically take reservations when we had called prior! The food has always been yummy, a dependable pub style. Good city was aptly named....the second I walked in it felt very urban and modern and if I'm being 100% honest - like I was in a whole different city. That being said, the star of the show here clearly is what MilwAukee is still known and beloved for (beer), and our cream city brick is also predominantly on display on the walls. I visited another time for a yelp event in a side room, and last weekend for brunch. and also to check out a spring "makers market" happening in said side room. There were a solid 30 or so people waiting for the place to open around 11:30, and although we visited the market first when we got in, we were able to snag a seat at the bar after for brunch (as there was a 20 or so min wait for a table). They had a mix of breakfast foods and more lunch type items. I got a mushroom/ truffle oil/ parmesan egg breakfast type of affair and my DC got a burger which was offered with a gluten free udi bun for a 75 cent upcharge. I'm not a beer drinker but I had some of their top note ginger beer which was not to sweet, light and ginger-y. It made a nice foil to the richness of the breakfast. They consistently have good beers and service, which is increasingly important now. They've handled the Covid sanitizing experience well. I always feel safe when I'm there. I've been to Good City Brewing on a couple of occasions now and have been pleased with my experience each time. What I love: They have an amazing Scotch Ale. It's everything one expects from a Scotch Ale--deep copper color, full bodied, with a nice roasted malt flavor. I also really enjoy their Detail porter. Though, I would warn it's a bit more stout than your typical porter (I love stout, so I like it, but for those who like a milder porter, just a heads up). As far as eats, they rock a pretty fab cheese board. Their fries are an absolute must every time we go. They are beautifully golden and curry dusted. The smell alone is divine. Their mac & cheese is made with a beautifully sharp aged white cheddar. It is pure creamy deliciousness. It's served with pretzel bread and the serving size is huge! Really poor customer service from waitstaff and mediocre food. We sat at the roof top and waited several minutes for any of the two servers to acknowledge us. This place was not busy for a Saturday afternoon. We get our drink and food orders taken. And then we wait over 30 minutes for food. My friend had two beers in this time because we waited so long. Never saw our waitress after the second round of drinks. The food we got was mediocre tasting. My fried chicken sandwich was just a tiny piece of chicken. Frankly, the sandwich was mostly just bun. I got the curry fries but did not like them. When our waitress finally came back to our table (we hadn't seen her in 40+ minutes) I asked if I could get the regular fries instead. She said she had to check with her manager about that. Really? For fries? Okay. Her manager said that I could get fries but only with a 25% discount. Seriously. For fries. It made no sense. When we asked for our bill, the waitress just told us the total of the bill off an iPad. Didn't show us a receipt. My sandwich, hard seltzer and double fries cost $29. How is that even correct? Great beer and plenty of sitting areas on the roof top, bar or side way patio. The bartender was very attentive so was the waiter when I sat at a table. The roof top is a great place to enjoy a beer, but no food is offered up here. I've ordered a hot dog both times I came just because I was in the beer drinking mood and what goes better with a nice cold beer than a hot dog?! The curry fries are delicious and are served with a side of sriracha ketchup and mayo. I would suggest dipping into both! Parking is always a bit of a pain - since street parking is limited in the surrounding area and also metered. We got 1/2 our order 40 minutes after ordering and told the rest was coming out soon. After an hour and 15 and no food I went to talk to the server to ask if there was a mix up. I could see they were short staffed so just making sure there wasn't a mix up. She chewed my head off. So another ten Minutes and no food so I talked to the manager and said I think I pissed her off. He went to check on the food came back and was very rude to me like it was my fault. He also wouldn't let me cancel my order. Needless to say we were late for the game, after arriving two hours early. Good city on the east side is such a fun spot to enjoy a beer and some snacks. I personally am a big fan of the curry fries. They have non alcoholic tea seltzers which were a big hit for my pregnant tag alongs. They have many different beers and I believe there is a beer there for every beer drinker. They have a medium size event space on the other side of the building which I have been in to attend a speaker and I think it is a great space if you are looking for a speaker or possibly throwing a shower. The roof top here is great as we do not have enough roof tops in Milwaukee, especially in this area of town. From the beginning walking into Good City I knew my experience was going to be great. I loved the atmosphere, rooftop option, and the staff. Been a fan of Good City Brewing's beer for a while, happy to finally make it in to the Mothership! Nice space with lots of different seating options. I bellied up to the bar and was well taken care of. There are a few different sizes of beer (taster, pint, growler) so you can try before you buy. Bartenders will also give you a taste of anything you like. My favorite is Motto, a citrusy IPA, and it tasted even better on tap here. The Reward double IPA was good too, but the En Fleur saison was not the cloudy type of saison I like. Thanks to the bartender for giving me a taste before I bought! The menu ranges from burgers to more expensive fancy dishes like fish, and the curry fries are not to be missed. I got the Brew Burger with Sriracha Russian Sauce, with a side of curry fries. I asked for the garlic aioli that normally comes with it, and it was a nice change of pace from ketchup. The burger was good and fries were awesome. We got there and the waiter...really nice guy...forgot his name. (This is why you need to do your reviews right away.) He offered us little tasters based on what we told him we liked. I started by saying I drink wine so it may be hard to know what beer I like. I didn't like them, but no fault to him. My sister did like the suggestions, so that was good. Stopped into Good City after having a sub par experience with sushi next door. It looked empty although it was only 9ish, and I wondered if they were closing soon. But we sat down and bartender said we must have just come in at a lull, because a bunch of people had just cleared out. Shortly after it filled up again. It was kind of nice having it be empty so we could just relax and enjoy a beer in a low key setting. I really enjoyed the decor, and if it was cooler I'd definitely be all about their little fireplace set up in the front corner. I tried two different beers, their hazy IPA and the Risk IPA and enjoyed both. They had just released a barrel aged beer and although it wasn't something I'd normally try, my husband ordered it and I was impressed with the taste. The bartender chatted with us and helped us pick out our beers. He was friendly but not overbearing. Overall a great experience. I'd definitely return to try more beer and probably do the brewery tour, as well as check out the rooftop. read more

I wasn't expecting anything delicious AND vegan in Milwaukee. I was quite pleased. They even made a beer that was simple and not stupidly hopped. Let me start by saying, I don't love beer and I really hate super overly IPA'ed beers. I wish all microbreweries made at least one "Grandpa" beer. Something that tastes like Coors (because I like water more than I like beer). Well, Good City had one that was citrusy and a ok. I had two. Couldn't have been that bad. In between meals, during a weekend trip to Milwaukee, my husband and I needed a place for some drinks and curds.  We didn't want to fill up too much, so we only ordered the curds.  They were good, but extremely salty.  They weren't our favorite ones in Milwaukee, but they did the trick.  Our server was friendly, attentive and quick.  We had a nice table at the window.  I ordered a Giant Monitor stout.  It was good, but not as peanuty as I assumed it would be.  My husband ordered a Sprecher's root beer.  You can't go wrong with anything Sprecher's.  I wish I'd gotten to try more of the food.  I'm not sure I'll be back next time I'm in town, as there's so many places I want to try.  But it's definitely worth checking out! read more

Came here with some friends for dinner and ordered the Mac and Cheese with Sausage. It was a HUGE disappointment. The flavors were flat, the sausage was dried out and it looked like it spent some time under the heat lamp. The food seemed to take an exceptionally long time to come out. My friends food seemed a lot better than mine. The fries were tasty and the pulled pork my other friend got was good among with the veggies. With that being said the service was good and there was plenty of seating available.
