We absolutely loved this place, the beer is phenomenal, the food was amazing, and they even have an outdoor area that's dog friendly. We'll definitely come back for their Oktoberfest weekends where it sounds like they have thousands of people. We went on a Saturday in the early afternoon so we could get their beer special on liters but it didn't count for the beer we got. That's ok because the beer was great. The food was pretty tasty too, we started with a huge soft pretzel then had some other stuff including a beet Reuben. Yes I know, it sounds sacrilegious to have a vegetarian version of a Reuben but it was absolutely amazing and it helped us keep more room for beer and fun. We have gone to the Bierhaus several times, and I have never left overly impressed. The drinks and vibe are good, but the food has never been that great. This past visit we ordered the cheese board, which also came with a giant pretzel and some bread. Why? I have no idea. The pretzel was cold, and we didn't touch the bread. The cheeses on the board were just slices like you'd find in a deli. There was also lettuce, tomato, red onion and pickles on the side, but why? I have no idea. To make a sandwich? That's not the idea of a cheese board. Our friends ordered the salmon, which came with a side of brussel sprouts. I couldn't get past the color of the sprouts. Barely green. My friend passed on the whole dish. If you're looking to watch a game and grab a beer, this place is great for groups, and service is good. However, if you're looking for dinner too, I'd recommend eating elsewhere. read more

Stopped by for a private event and enjoyed the catering and attention to detail with the decoration in the space. The staff were friendly and the food and drink were excellent. Tried the cheese curds, Reubens rolls, potato pancakes, pretzel bites with cheese sauce (the best!!) and plenty of cheese and sausage. Very German/Wisconsin fare. Wasn't as woo hoo about the chicken schnitzel but the German mustard improved it quite a bit. Loved the flight - good couple of beers they have! Definitely recommend for private events or dining. This is THE authentic bierhalle in Milwaukee- a true gem. And it hosts BY FAR the best Oktoberfest in Milwaukee. Which is why it hurts me so deeply to say their beer is terrible. They insist on paring back on authentic German beers and replacing them with their own deeply substandard versions. NONE of their beers are remotely in the same league as the real German beers. In fact, there are several Milwaukee and Wisconsin breweries that brew better German beers, such as Lakefront, Sprecher and New Glarus. We would go there much more often if they had more options for better beers, even if we had to pay more for it. Which brings me to their Oktoberfest. This is truly a Milwaukee institution. I have been attending it for over 30 years. When the new ownership took over and began brewing beer, they always offered Spaten Oktoberfest alongside their Oktoberfest. We always chose the Spaten. Then last year they eliminated the Spaten, and we're close to giving up on the festival. The beer is that bad. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is amazing, and the music is great. But it is a beer festival, and the beer is dragging it down. If the Bierhaus ever closes, it will be a very sad day. Many on here would say it was because of the food. Personally I think the food is pretty good. To me, it will be the beer that drags this place down. I hope the Owners realize that, and add at least a few good beers to their tap list to save the place and the Oktoberfest. read more

If you are going for the beer, go. Food has consistently been unimpressive for years even after new management. Keep in mind, they treat their staff terrible (at least the young people new to the workforce) so if you want to support a business that treats young people terrible, go. read more

While traveling from out of town, we had planned a family Christmas meal and had made reservations at Bavarian Brewhouse and were surprised to find it closed. We reserved online, received a confirmation, and showed up to a closed restaurant. We understand and appreciate them giving staff the holiday off, but it was a bit frustrating that the reservation system still allowed bookings and there was no notice online or by phone. Hopefully they can improve holiday updates in the future. read more

Came here for the first time to try out the fish fry. We were seated right away. Great ambiance. They have a band playing and families with kids dancing. It was nice. For dinner i ordered the baked cod with the potato pancake. Wow i was surprised. The cod was cooked perfectly just how i like it. Baked but crispy!! Now for the potato pancake. This is a legit potato pancake. Not just fried potato. The texture was definitely like a pancake. I enjoyed my dinner so much. The old fashioned was really good too. Finally getting around to reviewing a place I've been to a number of times. It's very close to where I live. Overall, you can get some tasty German food and good beer here. Be forewarned that the open beer hall area can get quite loud. It's sort of the point, I suspect, being so open with the long tables, big televisions, and bar. But when it's really hopping, it's hard to hold a conversation with a group of any reasonable size. Is there better German food in Milwaukee? Certainly...but it's really pretty tasty and you get good portions (for those of us happy to take home leftovers). Their beers are nothing amazing, as compared to so many excellent breweries in Milwaukee, but there's nothing bad about them either. Just dependable. All in all, a solid place. Definitely a good choice for a post-work happy hour too. read more

We frequent the Bavs Beirhaus, and most often I love the experience. They are so darn family-friendly and it's clearly appreciated by many - come here at 5pm on a Friday and it's basically family hour. Such a big beer hall, with the largest of tables, tons to eat on their menu, and most often, live music. We loved the latest duo who played accordion and a few other little instruments. They even invited kiddos on stage to play with other instruments they brought - so fun. The server was really sweet, and everyone was very attentive. Good brews too, per usual. The bummer this time around was the food for me. I ordered the baked cod and it didn't live up to $21 expectation in the least. Sadly, it lacked flavor, was kind of tough, and not at all hot. I found myself smothering it in lemon and tartar to make up for it, but in the end, I couldn't finish it. The other bummer was the kids mac n cheese. In the past, it's been a great portion of great quality, but on recent visits it's appeared to be the Kraft kind out of the box. Always hope to have a little something extra when dining out, vs what we can just get at home. We're always look forward to coming here with friends and family (!!), but the food can be a little hit or miss. read more

So glad I finally got to eat here! This was my third try and it finally worked out. (One time was during Octoberfest and the other was when there was a soccer tourny, and it was impossible to park... much less get in the doors). This time it wasn't that busy and we got got a nice seat on one of the large picnic tables in the beer hall. Our waitress was decked out in a traditional German outfit. Wasn't very much in the personality department, but she did a good job taking care of us. Not a big beer drinker, but I figured I better have a mug to fit in! Check... had my beer, and I honestly couldn't tell you if it was good or bad.... But I enjoyed having a mug in a beer hall! The best part of our meal was the Bavarian baked onion soup. It was very good! My wife had the sandwich with chicken schnitzel and ham... that too was very good and I would highly recommend both. My Jagerschnitzel was above average, could have had more gravy. But the spatzel that came with it was tasty. I loved the live German band that serenaded us during our meal. It was a three person band that played all the oompah-pah music you would expect in a German restaurant. Had a lot of fun, food was good and so was the entertainment. Worth stopping in. read more

This has been a long time book and new restaurant of the week today. First off this isn't just a restaurant it's a complex with a huge open restaurant and bar with a 2nd dining room in back and a 3rd bar and dining in back, soccer field, patio, back building with an open October fest area with plenty of tables. Seating is family style with long open booths. The bar is huge with plenty of seating. I took the table with the window seat over looking the parking and the sports field. I started with a Bloody Mary which was pretty sparse topping with a pickle cube, olive and short meat/cheese stick. The Bloody was good and a little spicy. I ordered the build your own schnitzel = pork schnitzel, jager mushroom gravy with buttered spatzel. Service was a little slow but I'm not complaining because hundreds of people were in this huge space during a packers game. My food came quicker than I expected and it looked great. The spatzel was good but bland so I added some salt for seasoning and it was good. The mushroom gravy was bland also with no real rich flavor topped with mushrooms. The pork schnitzel was cooked to order with a very crispy crust and a nice pork flavor but bland also was the theme so I seasoned with salt and it was good after it was seasoned. Overall I had a great German style lunch in a nice atmosphere especially when you think about how many German restaurants have disappeared in the us over the last few decades and I can only think of two left in Milwaukee area. read more

Bavarian Bierhaus is a big rambling place near Bayshore that's done a great job recreating a proper Bierhall and making it accessible to a lot of different groups. The Bavarian Soccer Club makes this their home base, several cultural groups meet & have events here and they host the city's best Oktoberfest in their enormous and well equipped Biergarten (now open all summer). In addition to all this, there's a large restaurant/bar that has festhälle communal seating, several private rooms for parties and a big bar. Food is pretty good honestly - you get giant serving sizes so plan to take home leftovers. Staff is good too - even when the place is slammed they work hard to take care of you. Expect live music on weekend The Mister is pretty involved in the German community so I'm here regularly - it's a nice place with nice people and always a good time! read more

We hosted a rehearsal dinner for my son and his bride to be in the King and Tap Rooms. The event coordinator, Elise was fantastic to work with. She was super responsive and helpful in the planning of the event (set up, appetizers, dinner menu, etc) as well as the execution of the evening. Elise stayed near by and was available for any questions, and an extra hand for any needs. The additional staff were wonderful, very helpful and eager to make sure any needs/wants were met. Made a reservation for Mothers Days brunch over a month ago. Despite seating several tables ahead of us who didn't have reservations, we were seated in the bar and told that was all that was available. Then a very very expensive buffet that was almost inedible and lots of men swearing and yelling at the soccer game on the TV (since it was the bar). Awful. If you're going just for beer and apps, maybe you'll be okay. I did not get beer. If going for food, don't. Even the cheese sauce for the not-soft, stale pretzel (microwave warmed?) was a runny liquid that didn't taste like cheese. The grilled salmon entree was prepared in the weirdest way... cut into three, thin strips and cooked until dry, chewy, and flavorless. The ice cream scoop of mashed potatoes was cold and inedible. The brussel sprouts were also cold, greasy, and half cooked. Also inedible. The entire dining room was woefully understaffed during an October Sunday lunch hour. Took a half hour to get even water and things went downhill from there. Their iced tea is not fresh brewed, but is bitter, fake tea from a bar dispenser. Ate 2/3 of the salmon and most of the stale pretzel (minus the crappy cheese) and left the rest. The couple seated behind me and the multi-generational family seated in front of me were all discussing how the waitress was going to expect a tip for the horrible service they were enduring. We were excited to try this restaurant because we have driven past it for years and never stopped. It was German fest weekend in Milwaukee and the weather was hot, humid and raining so we decided we would stop by. Large open space with many large tables. The bar dominates the room. Small stage opposite with a three piece Oomph band. Wait staff, Bar staff and manager are not the friendliest people. Add a bit of arrogance thrown in for fun. Could it was a bad day for them. But all? The place was empty. The rain got heavier and the manager guy was telling his staff that he was not sending anyone home. We ordered our food which arrived very quickly smelling wonderful. Food was good and flavorful, no problems there. Bier had that "just cleaned the bier line" flavor. Didn't finish it. We had four couples and everyone ordered. We all agreed the food was good but the bier tasted weird and chemically. Took us about twenty minutes and asking two other wait staff for our waitress so we could check out. She was a bit flustered since people started filling seats. Bottom line for us, food was very good. Drinks, meh. We felt like we were bothering the golf hat guy behind the bar who said he was the manager. Staff is very clicky with each other a their social life at work was more important. Went to the Oktoberfest and got the Doner Kebab. I've had plenty of doner kebab in Germany and can never find anything in the states that tastes the same so I was excited this might be it. We wanted to take our Moms out for Mother's Day, but due to schedules, the traditional Mothers Day Brunch was not an option. I also didn't want to go somewhere that I couldn't make a reservation and have to wait an hour to get a table. Luckily Bavarian Bierhaus is on OpenTable and we were able to secure a large table to also include another family member and her kids to celebrate her birthday. But in hindsight, Bavarian really should not have allowed me to make a reservation as they were just not staffed sufficiently for the day and the meal took a very long time, it took almost 20 minutes from ordering the drinks to their delivery and then another 20 minutes for straws as they were out of cups with lids for the kids. The saving grace was that we weren't in a hurry and the food--when it finally arrived, was very good. I went slightly out of my comfort zone and got the pretzel sandwich (I'm the only one that eats salami at home, so I rarely have it). It was very good, though the pretzel should be made a bit wider to work appropriately as a sandwich. read more

When you're craving a German pretzel and beer cheese, this is my go to! Bonus was it was Thursday buy one get one rack of ribs. Oh mylanta! This is not for the faint of heart. What a deal of enormous tender deliciousness. The German potato salad can be heated up if you like it that way. And that's just how I got it. The beer cheese soup was the perfect accompaniment to the pretzel which was A large size. There was a smaller and a jumbo which you would need a few extra people for. Coffee was freshly brewed in a nice large mug to keep it warm on a cool fall evening. Service was friendly with a smile and prompt. Love the teamwork at this place. read more
