Came here for the first time in search of a new fish fry spot. We were seated right away. Definitely has a supper club vibe. Our waitress gave us some crisp bread for the table and a sesame roll which was my favorite and rye bread. The old fashioned was delicious. You get the option of soup or salad. I opted for the clam chowder and my goodness it was delicious. One of the best i have ever had i ate the whole thing with the sesame roll. I ordered broiled cod with potato pancakes however i think i was given walleye instead. I still ate it. It was absolutely delicious. The potato pancakes were perfection with applesauce. Definitely will be back and hopefully i can have the broiled cod next time. The regular fried fish is also delicious. Definitely a lot of locals here. This is easily my new favorite spot for fish fry. Fantastic service. Will be returning. read more

I had already been to Jack Pandal's twice, and was sure I'd never go back. However, I went for a Friday fish fry as a guest, and was pleasantly surprised. Elise, our waitress, was upbeat, funny and gave us great suggestions. We ordered the mozzarella sticks as an appetizer, and they were served nice and hot, which automatically made the food better than my last visit. For dinner, I ordered the Broiled Whitefish with Honey Balsamic Glazed Brussel Sprouts. While the fish itself didn't have much flavor, it too was served nice and hot, and the tartar sauce made a difference. The Sprouts were tender, and the glaze very good. We had a 7:00 dinner reservation on a Friday during Lent, and the place was packed. Reservations are highly recommended! Seating here is very tight, so be prepared for a tight fit. read more

The facility is as neglected as an abandoned child, the food is badly reheated, served in stingy proportions with a recycled unrecognizable side (no, those are not spaetzle), the china is chipped, the carpet stinks, the waitstaff is pleasant but detached and uninformed and the entire experience is wildly overpriced. I would like to first say that the service I had was wonderful. The waitress was quick, efficient, and very friendly. Another good thing was that the ambiance on the patio was very nice. That is all of the good things I could possibly say here. My sister ordered the onion rings and they were cold. They came out quickly? Not sure how they could be deep fried and cold. No flavor other than fry oil but very disappointing.. The prices, are grossly over what is fair for the quality and portion of what is delivered. Two hockey pucks of deep fried cat food "whitefish" for $29?!? Criminal. Is the person cooking the food a microwave? That would be more understandable. Thank god for the tartar sauce that came with the fish cakes or this would have been wholly inedible. $16 for a side of what was the most bland spatzel of my life also felt criminally expensive but was a step down from the let down of the crab cakes. I think the menu could use a revamp? Someone check on the team in the kitchen, I think someone might be asleep at the fryer.. For now, I wouldn't return until some serious improvements could be made to food quality. read more

I felt transported to a village inn somewhere in Britain. The interior looked vintage but it wasn't moldy or old. Clean curtains, white table cloths, fresh carnation in a vase, wonderfully placed silverware and beautiful plate wear. Even looking out to the patio gardens was a flowered feast for the eyes. I had the roladen which was so soft, I never needed a knife. A fork will more than suffice. Wonderful flavors. This is NOT a diner and NOT a place for a quick bite to eat. It's a place to relax, to talk and to enjoy your meal. Soft orchestral sounds in the background. Server was a sweetheart. Big parking lot. Small ladies restroom. There is a separate bar/seating area. Went for a Friday night night fish fry. Had an early reservation with OpenTable and was immediately seated. My wife had the broiled cod with salad and French fries and I had the deep fried cod with New England clam chowder. We both enjoyed an apple strudel with ice cream. We were done within 45 minutes. Came here to have a couple of drinks and a fish fry. The drinks were very good and they handed out some kind of bread appetizer, and it was really good. I was expecting an "ok" dinner here based on the hit or miss reviews but we had a definite hit of a meal. The interior is "old timey up north chalet" with lots of wood, beer steins and old photos. It reminds me a lot of a place I worked in high school - family run, old school. Dinners start with a dish of garlic bread chips which are delicious. You'll choose from soup or salad - I had salad which was your pretty standard side salad. Fine but nothing special. For a main, I had wiener schnitzel ($32) which netted me 3 good sized, perfectly crispy cutlets topped with a fried egg. Homemade spaetzle was perfectly cooked. They make a homemade kraut which is pretty sweet and not for me, but that's subjective. The mister had the prime rib special (King cut $40) and it's probably one of the best prime ribs either of us had had. Perfectly cooked, super tender and with a terrific crust. Honestly, not fatty either! We ended with their homemade chocolate mousse pie which was spectacular. Light, not too sweet - just perfect. The dining room was full with a large party (26 ppl) but we still had good service. Honestly, I was really impressed. I'll definitely be back when I'm feeling like some prime rib. read more

Jack Pandl's has been around for many years and decided to try it on one my visits to Milwaukee. Got the schnitzels and cup of chili. It had 3 big pieces of schnitzels fried nicely. Would recommend for anyone to get it. The chili was amazing. I couldn't believe how good it was. Wish I could have taken some home with me. Service was really good and always present. The only con is the access to get into the restaurant. If you're in a wheelchair or have difficulty walking up steps it's tough. The building is old and was grandfathered in and not needing a ramp, but I would hope the owner would rethink this policy and add a ramp. read more

I was hesitant to leave a review because I never like to leave a bad one. My girlfriend and I ate here around a year ago, we were there on a weeknight and there was a short wait for a table inside, or we could sit outside. It was chilly that night, so we were one of two tables sat outside. The other table left shortly after we arrived, and when our eyes wandered over to their table after they left we saw a large rat scurrying off the table. We made our server aware of what we saw, and they laughed it off, saying they'd seen a few rats out on the patio before. They asked if we wanted to move inside, but, since our food had just arrived, we figured it was easier to just eat outside. Our server left and we began attempting to eat, before we'd take too many bites we saw two other rats emerge from somewhere and scurry across the patio. At this point neither of us could eat, so after waiting around 10 minutes for our server to return we asked for boxes and the check so we could get out of there. When they returned they asked if we'd seen the rat again, and when we said yes they shared that another table that week had the rat hide on the railing right next to their table and eat some of the salad crackers they had set down while they were eating next to them. I've never been so disgusted by a dining experience in my life, we couldn't even recall what our food tasted like on our car ride home. I'm always willing to give places a second chance, but until then this remains on my do-not-go list. read more

We were there for a larger party and sat in a private room- which was very tight so waitstaff couldn't easily walk around. Our waiter was very loud and didn't read the crowd well. Interrupted toasts to ask if someone wanted something to drink vs waiting a minute or so. Rushed people into ordering without explaining the menu or helping customers by providing tips. Often the table was without water and had to ask a number of times to get it. Very average service overall. Food was ok. read more

When we arrived, there were three tables that were taken, took our waitress a little while to get to us and we ordered a drink. It came about 10 minutes later we ordered our food and the restaurant became full in a short amount of time people that came way after us had their food pay their bill and was leaving. I was getting quite upset after an hour and 15 minutes and I asked another waitress what was going on and she says I'll check she came back and said the kitchen told her that our order was put in five minutes ago. I love this hidden gem! In my opinion they have one of the best fish fries and the best schnitzel in the area. I always start off with an old-fashioned. Depending on the night, I go fish or schnitzel. The menu is full of traditional dishes and although I'm sure they're all amazing, I have to get for one of my favorites. The salads and soup are also a must. This is definitely the kind of place where you want to go all out! The venue itself isn't huge so plan to make a reservation because I don't think I've ever been able to get served right away as a walk-in. They do have a bar area but again, it's quite small. Trying to find a restaurant that offers outdoor seating is a challenge these days, but Pandl's not only offers a large patio, they also let you make reservations for it through OpenTable! The experience did start off a bit rocky as there isn't the customary stand/podium/check-in sign when you arrive. The staff outside also seemed to be a bit unorganized, so I headed inside where I was told that the hostess could seat us outside, so back I went. The table wasn't great, as it was technically off to the side of the patio slightly on the parking lot, but it was a generous distance from other tables, so I was at least happy with that. I could have done without the hostess yelling at the bus staff through the meal, but I could also come down with Coronavirus being amongst other people, so you gotta take the good with the bad! Service was decent, Mark S took good care of us though he disappeared for a while at the end of the meal when I was ready to wrap things up and head home. The food was the main event. From the garlic bread for the table to the clam chowdah (I feel that spelling is warranted, it was New England-good!), and then the main event, my lamb shanks. The gravy was damn near drinkable and the roasted carrots were excellent. The serving size was giant, enough for two meals, and it heated up surprisingly well a few days later! read more

They have a a nice brunch/menu that includes a glass of sparkling wine or a mimosa, a small plate of pastries ( that they will refill), you choice of soup, salad or fruit cup, also coffee juice, or milk, and your choice of 10 entrees. We both went the mimosa route, and went through two plates of pastries, also had coffee. She ordered the seafood omelette and I had the gigs Benedict. Both were delicious and cooked perfectly. The Hollandaise was fantastic! Service was good. Prompt and friendly. It was a great meal for what we thought was a very reasonable price. Would definitely come back. read more

Lunch for six on a weekday. Made reservations but it was not busy at noon. Pleasantly greeted. Friendly waitress. Food service was somewhere between leisurely and slower than necessary. Selections were adequate. Prices were in line with current dining costs. The entrees were tasty, but a few extras were not so great. Spinach salad was sparse and served with a cold blob of gelatinous dressing. Might have tasted better if dressing had been warmed up, but not tasty served cold. Spinach, tomato wedge, and one slice of cucumber. No eggs or mushrooms. Disappointing. Walleye, whitefish, shrimp scampi, schnitzel all very good. Mashed potatoes were served barely lukewarm. Added a pat of butter, but it didn't even melt. Sandwich and chicken wrap ( spicy!) had potato chips as a side. Satisfied lunch goers. Nice environment.Convenient parking lot. Steps to enter were a challenge to mobility impaired friends as well as the smallest ladies restroom we've ever tried to navigate. We still love the history and location. Maybe an off day for the kitchen staff. We'll return and try Pandl's again, but not for a while. read more

A trip into the past, an old fashioned supper club with a touch of fine dining. Great menu, my wife and I decided to try (and share) the Whitefish and the Wienerschnitzel. Have to admit the service was a little slow, but it is the type of place that you want to sit and enjoy your meal and not rush through it. Plus, the garlic toast was a great appetizer and so good. Hard not to fill up on them! Our meals were good and found that the sauces really complimented the entrees very well. We made reservations for Thursday evening because we didn't want to fight the crowd of a Friday night. First impression walking into the back breezeway was dingy/ dirty. The entrance hasn't been updated in years and needs to be. Second impression, as soon as we opened the door and entered the rear dining room, there was an overwhelming smell of old lady perfume. I had hoped that was from the server sitting in the back area, but alas, the whole restaurant reeks of it. Then you start looking around and there's dust strings hanging off the wall scones, dead baby's breath in the flower vase, carpet that saw better days 30 years ago. Third, the food. MEH. I suspect the Salado are made by the servers because our salads came out with a thin layer of brown edged wilty lettuce, three slices of celery that was brown edged, one slice of cucumber that had been frozen (it was translucent) and a sad mushy wedge of tomato, covered in dressing. Whereas the male server working the diningroom brougt out fluffy green salads with dressing in sauce cups to his tables. I had the duck. Duck is normally a fatty bird which helps keep the juices in. Well, for the first time i had dry duck. It was much too over cooked on a mammoth pile of grey mush referred to as stuffing. You can skip the garlic mashed potatoes. My husband and I struggled to decide if they are instant because they're so grainy or if they use garlic powder in excess to give the grainy mouth feel, regardless, they were not good and not eaten. My husband had the weinershniztle which he said was not good but not terrible. For dessert (yes we got dessert, I only ate dry duck so far and was hopeful) my husband got the chocolate pie and I got the German "pancake." The pancake is actually yorkshire pudding, so that was disappointing. The chocolate pie has an overly sweet but spiced crust which was inedible. The menu states the pancake comes with lemon butter which is why I ordered it, but sadly that was a "type-o" according to the waitress and instead lemon wedges were brought out. If you take a chance on this place, make sure you get the male server, he attended his tables, and his salads looked great...our server was female with platinum blond ends. My water was always empty; she didn't ask about the food, as 75% was left on the plate and tossed, and she must not know how to make a salad or the kitchen staff doesn't like her. I prefer to wait a couple of visits before reviewing Jack Pandl's, but I'm just not sure when I'll make it back, considering it took me this long and a gift certificate from my realtor, Mike Landre at First Weber, to make my first visit. The dining room had a few tables occupied. Every diner was aged 60 or older, except me of course. So likely many long-time regulars. I visited on a Monday night. When I walked in the entrance from the parking lot, the room I entered smelled "old," really old. The good news is I did not smell that aroma when I entered the dining room and bar area. I was greeted by an old friend, Mark, that has served me at various restaurants over the past 10 years. It was great to see him, and luckily he was my server, and he provided me with the same 5 star service he always has. This guy is a true professional and has an amazing attitude. To the food...the menu is German cuisine. I thought of ordering the prime rib special that night, but opted for something German, so I ordered the wiener schnitzel (about $26). The entrees come with choice of soup or salad and choice of potato, but the wiener schnitzel comes with spaetzle, which was what I would have ordered as a side anyway, as well as red cabbage. The soup I ordered was sausage and bell peppers, and it was absolutely delicious. I truly enjoyed every spoonful! I dipped the fresh, warm and crispy rye dinner roll into it, as well. The schnitzel was served as 3 cutlets with a side of gravy and topped with a near perfect sunny side up fried egg, and I found the schnitzel to be breaded and cooked very well, and the gravy was very savory, I even ate the red cabbage ON PURPOSE. The dish was pretty solid overall. It wasn't the best schnitzel I've had, but it was good. For dessert, I ordered the home made Apple Strudel, which is served a la mode. The ice cream was good, but the strudel was very soft, almost soggy instead of the crispy texture described in the menu, and the flavor profile was flat, not even slightly sweet. So the dessert was the only disappointment of my meal. If I could give 3 1/2 stars, I would. Would I go back again? Sure, I'd really like to try the fish fry and maybe the prime rib that I overhead a diner rave about. I'll just skip dessert. read more

For dinner on a rainy March night, in the East Side of Milwaukee, I took great interest in the delicately-lit and homey classical spaces of Jack Pandl's Inn. I was treated excellently to the prompt service of a professional gentleman, who showed genuine care and kindness in his rapport with me. Having enjoyed a light breakfast and lunch, and hearing that prime rib was traditionally offered on Saturday, I ordered the King Cut, and with gratitude, I was presented with a very generous, medium-well selection from the heart of the chef. Joyful with the tender, spectacularly-seasoned and garnished rib, I was quick to ask for the beautiful, Traditional German Pancake for desert, and though there was also an apple pie on the menu, I will return for more of the elegant, eggy, and buttery flat cake. We were a little disappointed with this place. First of all, know that it has a great location- it's right along the lake, about two blocks in from Lake Michigan, and its outdoor patio area is beautiful. We live nearby and have been wanting to try it for a while, so we stopped by on a Thursday night after running some errands. We got there about an hour and a half before close and walked inside to an empty restaurant. A host found us a second later, appearing out of a room to the right of the entrance after shoving a phone in his pocket, and took us to our seats on the patio. When we decided on drinks from the menu, the waitress had us repeat the order to her three times, saying that she was new and didn't know the menu yet. After getting our drinks, I ordered garlic shrimp scampi and my girlfriend had filet mignon, and both dishes were pretty underwhelming. Mine tasted like watered down noodles, and there was no hint of butter or garlic in the noodles at all. There was a liquid puddle at the bottom of the dish underneath the noodles, and it literally just tasted like water. Some of the shrimp had skin sloughing off of them as well, and it wasn't the best sensation while eating. My girlfriend ordered her steak medium-rare, but it came out well done. She also ordered green beans with the steak, but she was served asparagus instead. For the price of the meal, it was not worth it. The location is great, and staff are nice, but the food was very underwhelming. This was a cool place to try once, but we won't be returning. read more

We saw this place driving around Lake Michigan and decided to give it a shot. Man what a gem this place turned out to be. I don't have lots of time to write but I recommend you to try... 1. Shcaumtorte: If you are short on time go straight to desert. When you eat this you going to feel like your doing something you don't want people to catch you doing, wink wink. Every texture under the sun, sweet, cream, crunchy, gooey with whipped cream on top like a fluffy cloud. 2. White Cod lightly batter and rolled in hash browns. Crunchy, light and flavorful mom will approve. 3. Clam chowder: Potatoes were perfect with corn, carrots and very creamy. Awesome! 4. Spatzel: Spell check made it hell to type but well worth the effort. Flavor and texture off the charts. This is where dumplings go to die with a butter cheesy coffin of love. First off, I have been eating here for over 50 years and the food is outstanding as it was today. Unfortunately, the server, Kristine, kept forgetting us. By the time we got there, it was thinning out. We ordered drinks which took over 15 minutes to get. New bartender learning--ok. We asked for rolls prior to eating. Our food came out no rolls. She said she was bringing my vegetable. I finished my food no vegetable. She asked if we wanted something else. We asked for another pastry plate which is included with the Sunday brunch. After 10 minutes, she came back to ask if we wanted anything else. I said the pastry plate. She forgot. By the time she went in the kitchen to get it, they were all put away. She also offered us no champagne which was part of the $24 per person brunch/lunch. The food was outstanding. They have the best veal around. Unfortunately, it was all marred by this server. At least offer to pay for a drink or dessert since she forgot everything else. She also left us sitting with empty glasses on the table. We finally asked her to remove them since we had no room. read more
