We tried Mallards at Bayshore for the first time this week. This place has really flown under the radar, I'm at Bayshore somewhat frequently and didn't realize they were even in this spot. The restaurant is large, spacious, and well decorated. We had a group of 8 and were seated right away on a Wednesday. We got there in time to order a few $5 apps from the happy hour menu. We all liked the elote fritters! The walleye and crab cakes were also good. We all tried something different. Between the NOLA Salmon, Ahi Tacos, Shrimp Cobb, Spicy Pasta, and even the cheeseburger sliders. Everyone really enjoyed their meals. They even brought out an Apple Pie for my dad's birthday! The only complaint I had is it was very slow. From ordering, to getting our food, and the longest wait was for our bill. With a 1.5 year old, we were eager to get going but waited about a half hour after finishing dinner to get the bill. Prices are pretty fair for the quality and quantity you get. Definitely would still go back, just not if we were in a rush! read more

So it's Bayshore. Just park at kohls and walk 2 blocks. Circling for closer parking will drive you mad So it's a Minnesota chain. This place is solid. Some hits and some mehs but a solid place I don't want to see it go away. Apps. Curds good. Above average Seafood guacamole meh. Not bad. Not great. Corn fritters. Wow. Crunchy. Flavorful. Best app we had. But I heard wings are good. But I am a tomkens and old Elsa's fan. So I can't say for myself. Mains Barrumundi blackened on mashed Potatoes was soft, melted in your mouth. Solid fish. Nashville chicken. Crunch. Solid. Spice level was on point but not overpowering. My daughter needed milk but she is a spicy wimp. Sweet pickles and good slaw. Fries. We're just fries. Meh. But sandwich was solid. Others had chicken and waffles and double smash burger. Both were clean plated. Chicken and waffles were huge too! Surprised my bud finished them. He's like one of those thin people that could do competitive eating if they had a long distance version. Not speed just long steady stuffing that surprises you how much they can eat. Will come back. Try the menu. You will have mehs but you will have hits. Once you've been a couple times you will learn what's good for you. read more

Haven't been to Bayshore center for a while. Decided on this restaurant at the last minute. It was near the location that a music performance, later on that evening. So between the location, and menu, we took a chance. Glad that we did. Made a 6pm reservation and got right in. The place was about 1/3 full. The place is very spacious, with lots of different areas, and table options. They also have outdoor patio seating, which would be a treat during nice weather. The noise level is good, and allowed us to have a quiet conversation. Our server got to us right away with water and menus. Wasn't interested in a drink, but a hot tea on a cold night was a good choice. The menu had a nice selection of starters, salads, sandwiches and entrees. There were some excellent sounding choices, so I asked our servers for some recommendations, which she was happy (and almost excited) to help with. We decided the Elote Corn Fritters, I got the Mallard Melt (new item), and my date got the Blackened Fish Tacos. The corn fritters arrived after a short wait. They were absolutely amazing! The flavors were bright, spicy, but not hot. The inside texture was both moist and crumbly. A very yummy start. After another short wait, the patty melt and the fish tacos came. Both of these were the right temps, flavorful, and good portions. The garlic toast for the melt was nicely grilled. The pimento cheese, bacon jam, and nashville aioli were also tasty, but they tended to overly blend with each other. Instead of chips, I had ordered the veggie fries, with are pan grilled beans and carrots. That was a nice change for fried chips. The fish tacos were nicely plated, with good portions. Lots of interesting flavors from the avocado cream and hot sauce. It was a very good last minute choice. The menu selection, service and atmosphere were better than I might expect. This was my second visit in 10 days. I must say it wasn't quite the same as the first visit. Maybe the server was new, maybe they were shortstaffed I'm not sure, but it wasn't crowded and our table of five felt rushed and almost suggested that we leave by bringing the check without even asking if we wanted another round of drinks or any other food! The corn fritters were kind of dry and not what I remembered less than two weeks ago. I must say the Wally bites were delicious and fresh and lightly breaded. The shrimp tacos were kind of a spicy hot surprise. All I could taste was the heat, but the shrimp were very sizable and tender! My dining companion couldn't even eat hers as They were so spicy. Main entrees: Meatloaf, Mushroom Pappardelle with chicken, Barramundi Rodrigo, and Salmon New Orleans. Everyone liked their meals. My meatloaf was good. Their meatloaf is more tomato based over the meatloaf while I'm more of gravy on my meatloaf. Overall, nice spot for a date, but not necessarily the most foodie place. Our server was very, overly enthusiastic, spoke superfast, and long. As nice as he was, I felt more like I was listening to my professor going over the semester, then a server going over the menu. He explained that they made everything fresh, in house. Including their bread. I was under wild by their freshly made bread, which came toasted on my pasta dish. It didn't feel as fresh because it had come toasted with burnt spots. They also have a Brandy that the restaurant gets special made for them. This one was really good. Our bartender had to leave due to sickness before starting on our drinks, so our server said that he made the drinks himself. Unfortunately, the bartender would have probably done a better job. Well the drinks that the server made wasn't bad, it was definitely not quite as professional as it could have been. For example, there are certain drinks that should not come with ice, since it's supposed to be shaken. The food is all good. Solid. But not what I would call excellent. Actually, the shrimp and lobster pasta dish I had was excellent. Had this been the only thing I had gotten, I would have raved about it. Very mind though, that this dish was $25. But Hubby had the fish and chips Which was again, good, but just that. Nothing spectacular. And there was pretty much nothing else that my friends had that looked especially exciting. So for the price and the service we received, I'd say the place is solid, but not necessarily my go to. I will go with a group, but not sure if this would be my date place. read more

Date of visit: January 24, 2025 After a long week, my husband and I wanted nothing more than some relaxing conversation with our closest friends accompanied by good food. Mallard's succeeded on both fronts! Shaun took wonderful care of us, letting us know right at the beginning of the meal that the kitchen was very busy and offered us soup or salad to help pass the time, a wonderful offer that went a long way towards ensuring the entire experience was a five-star one! The gratis soup, by the way, was an excellent clam chowder, served with crackers (as all soups should be), and was quite good. We started with the Daily Bread. Dear reader, I would snatch this loaf from an old lady like Seinfeld it was so good! Partially sliced to make it easier to share, it came with three sides: a pimento cheese, a jam, and a honey butter. I skipped the pimento but the other two somehow managed to elevate the bread, which I didn't think was quite possible. I had the Turkey Club and it was decent, but not amazing. I prefer my clubs to be a bit more warm, especially the bread--though the cranberry bread it was served on was excellent. Everyone does something different with their clubs so I'm not docking them for my personal preference. The side of chips were good, though I would have perished and ascended to the heavens if they had been salt and vinegar chips! Bayshore--really the North Shore in general--has been a restaurant desert, so excited to have Mallard's helping to fill the void and I hope they continue to do great things. read more

There's been some changes at this location at Bayshore over the years. Decent places but nothing special. Mallards is the most promising of them all. The staff, both times I went, was great. Very friendly. The first time I went, with my wife, I had to step outside multiple times to take calls because of a family emergency. The server couldn't have been nicer about it. The menu has a nice range of options and everything I've had thus far has been excellent. From fish to Nashville hot chicken to clam chowder...all the things we've had were tasty! We live very close to Bayshore, and it's great to have a high quality option so near to our home! Been there twice already and will be back soon! read more

I've been to Mallards twice, the first time I was thrilled with the service and the food. And the second time months later there was a lot to be desired in both areas. I brought my family thinking the food would be good and most of it was cold and bland. We did like the appetizers- walleye bites and boudin balls. We dined at Mallards on Monday and below is my take away for this restaurant. Food: 4 stars. The elote corn fritters comes 3 on a plate and I have to say they were amazing. They came out hot and when you bite into them they were so moist. Not sure what I was expecting, but very good. I ordered the Shrimp Cobb salad and if you like avocado, bacon , and shrimp you should like this salad. My friend got the surf and turf and said his food was really good. Service 3.5: where's the manager or host? We lucked out and got seated right away while we saw others wait a few minutes to be seated. Not sure if there was a manager was there or a host, but not a great look for a new restaurant and people waiting to be seated when it wasn't that busy. Our waitress Meagan deserves 5 stars. She hustled and apologized for the delay. The only delay we had was our appetizer maybe took a little long, but we didn't even notice. Mallards has the potential to be a great restaurant, but they need to work out some kinks in order to prevent the curse of yet another restaurant in this location going out of business. read more

Mallards is a solid choice for a laid-back meal. The salmon was decent, nothing special, and the staff was friendly when they were around. The highlight definitely has to be the "daily bread" plate really good and worth ordering with whatever you get. read more

Went to Mallard's with a friend for the first time and it was really good! We got the seafood campechana as our free app and I ordered the Tennessee hot chicken sandwich with fries. The seafood campechana was super fresh and delicious and my sandwich was flavorful! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We had a reservation at 6 PM on a Friday, but still we're not able to be seated after 30 minutes. Even after we were seated, we still needed to wait for over an hour and 45 minutes after ordering before our meals were served. The restaurant wasn't particular busy at the time we were there, so I'm not sure why there was such a delay. Even after waiting for nearly 2 hours, our food was served cold. I definitely would not recommend going to this restaurant, but if you are still interested in going be sure to go soon because this restaurant will be out of business before the end of 2026 if they don't change their way soon. read more

We recently came for a midweek early dinner. We enjoyed some of the happy hour specials (discounted drinks, cheaper appetizers) and entrees. The menu has a variety of options and flavorful food. I enjoyed the walleye bites and fish and chips. Another family member loved their lemon chicken pasta. Portion sizes were not small. Staff was friendly. My toddler daughter was with us; the highchair seemed clean and I was grateful that staff was mindful of how they delivered hot plates around her (not too close and not over her head). We were here to pick up our order from Charley Cat Hot Chicken. The server was great and offered to take our order instead of sending us to the bar. We were left wanting to dine in at Mallards. Just had a great lunch at mallards today! Went out with my nana and she can be pretty picky so the fact we're rating this 5 stars says something! She loves it because everyone is friendly, it's clean, and it's comfortable. Our waiter was so nice and knowledgeable on the menu. My nana got the 1/2 sandwich and salad, the croutons are homemade and delicious. I ordered the mallard melt-- so good! It's a little sweet and spicy. The food was OK. The shrimp tacos the tortilla was cold and hard. The Elote fritter tasted like I was eating corndogs still good, but not what I was looking for in regards of flavor. The crabcakes taste was good but it looks more like just something that was dropping into the plate not an actual form of a cake or consistency. The Mediterranean bowl with the blackened chicken it was average OK the description said that it has some quinoa but mine has absolutely none. The chickpeas inside the salad seems like were just drop out of the can into a salad nothing special to it. Service can improve definitely more attention bringing at least water to the table a little bit faster while we sit and wait for 20 minutes to get drinks a table next to us came in later and sit down got their drinks and food fairly quickly while we were just getting our meals by the same server after them. The restaurant looks fine. A Great find in the Bayshore Mall area! Our reservation was honored promptly. The restaurant ambiance, dim lit dining room and decor complimented our experience. The menu offered many creative dishes with second thoughts on what to choose. Shrimp and crab boil was an amazing starter appetizer. Seafood Gumbo and Lobster Brioche Roll with warm butter as our main courses were absolutely delicious! We dared for dessert with sharing of the warm homemade apple pie (with ice cream if you like) every morsel pure decadence. I stopped in to Mallards for a to-go order after an appointment in the area. The decor was very open and airy and I loved the open kitchen concept. The waitstaff was really friendly and seemed very attentive to the few tables that were already seated (it was shortly after they opened for the day). I ordered the corn fritters and lobster quiche. I loved the corn fritters and wished I had more once they were done. However, the lobster quiche left much to be desired because for the price, the slice was way too small. This place is nice, big and open. I like the feel of it. We came for lunch/brunch and it was our first time. We ordered the corn fritters which were absolutely delicious though for about $11 you only get 3. And we got the wild mushroom scramble. It was good... I love a dish with goat cheese. It was good but a bit too herby for my taste and the cheesy hash brown bake was too al dente. The service was ok considering the restaurant was slow. We don't see our server much. Located in the old Sprecher's restaurant with lots of outdoor seating and nice interior as well. We have frequented this restaurant several times with family and friends. We made a reservation a month or more before Christmas Eve. While everyone was parking their cars, I went in and they tried to seat us next to the kitchen. I didn't like the location and was told that all the tables were reserved. There weren't that many diners there and after she conferred with just about everyone, she moved us one booth away. We ordered drinks, appetizers. They arrived timely and then we ordered our entrees. It took quite awhile and I noticed two waiters passing our table with 2 dishes that looked like ours. They turned around to take the food to the kitchen because they were unsure where they went. So one entree and one side came back and were put down. Then the entree for our guest arrived. My sister was sitting there with her side getting cold and I had no entree. I told them to go ahead and eat. I don't know how long we set there, but out of frustration, our guest got up and went to find our waitress, who had been absent since the appetizers were put down. A waiter came to the table with the waitress and asked us what we ordered. I said ask our waitress, she is standing next to you. She looked at her pad and they both disappeared. At this point, none of the dirty dishes had been removed and our water glasses were empty. Still the restaurant had not gotten busy....lots of empty tables. Our waitress appeared and apologized and said our dinners will be right up and asked would my sister like a new order of fries that had gotten cold. She came back with them but still didn't remove our dirty plates. I finally got my entree and the waiter removed the dishes and poured water. We waited for my sister's entree, her side got cold. We were finishing our dinners when her dinner arrived. At this point, we were just done and wanted to leave. The manager came over and my guest said he needed to comp the dinner since the whole experience was awful. He threw up his hands and said ok. ABSOLUTELY will I NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone. The worst service I have ever experienced. 630pm reservation and we didn't get served until 845pm. To make it worse the managers wouldn't even apologize for the inconvenience. DO NOT waste your time here. There are plenty of other places to eat in the area. read more
