I really enjoyed this place. The servers were very friendly and attentive. For an appetizer we got the artichoke dip- the chips served with it were very good. My partner got the hot chicken sandwich and said it was a 7/10. I got the cubano, and while it tasted good, was kind of disappointed in the cubano to bread ratio. Other than that we had a nice lunch here and wouldn't mind stopping by in if in the area. The Bay continues to be an A-OK spot, in my opinion. Your classic pub food can be found here, but also a few elevated options like unique pasta dishes, salmon cakes, and tofu peanut satay. Came here recently with a group of six, and good thing we made a rez because it was full! Our server wasn't the friendliest guy around but still made sure we were taken care of. I personally stuck with water but half the table went with old fashioned. Everyone had the same note as to how very sweet they were. My husband and I shared the cubano sandwich and the buffalo cauliflower bites. Those cauli bites were fire, I could order those everytime and be happy! Wasn't the biggest fan of the cubano though. There was way more bread than there was fillings. Oh and I tried my brother's pizza! That was very good. I'll look forward to returning for patio season - great outdoor space here! read more

Great place for dining if you don't know where to go. We were happily greeted at the front door by the host, informing us that there was a wait of about 25 min. But he worked it to be more of a 15 min wait. They have many option on the menu. We tried the fish fry and lasagne. The fish was nice and flaky and lightly battered. The lasagne was good but for me could've used more cheese on top. I really liked that they don't have ricotta cheese on the inside. This place is a block and a half from my home and I really wish it was better. Literally every time I've eaten here has been meh and for the quantity and quality it's pretty expensive. In the past I've ordered burgers and other pub food - so items they should be pretty good at. This evening I had their Saturday special BBQ combo - that they assumably smoke onsite. That experience prompted this review. See pics. Plate should never have made it to the table. The server apologized for the charred nature of the wings and immediately offered a replacement. The wings were dry, the ribs also dry, and the pulled pork had clearly been reheated. The wings that came out as a replacement were fried with no seasoning. Tasteless and gross. I ate one of 8 fried wings and the carrots and celery garnish which were fresh - best part of "meal". Did not take anything home. Server offered free drinks or another dinner item and ultimately didn't charge for my meal. I did not take her up on the offer of a drink or other food - after an hour at the table my wife had eaten her meal and I was ready to go. read more

Today was a perfect and beautiful day to sit outside at The Bay restaurant in Whitefish Bay. The blackened chicken sandwich on brioche with fried onion strings was amazing and the Oriental Chicken salad was great, I enjoyed the sesame ginger dressing that came with it. My only complaint is the service was slow but overall it was a nice experience and I'm looking forward to going back and trying more off the menu! read more

this is a go to spot for me and my family! I don't think I've ever been disappointed. This most recent time I had one of their specials-- a burger with mango salsa. I like their caesars too! I've been to The Bay several times while in Whitefish Bay and the North Shore, and the eatery never disappoints. The staff are friendly, and the food is excellent. A number of interesting items are on the menu. As a vegetarian, I appreciated having the opportunity to order a sweet potato and cranberry burger during my most recent visit. The Bay is a great local spot to meet for drinks with friends during the week or Fish Fry with the family on Friday. Most times, there is not a wait, but I'd highly recommend a reservation on a Friday night. We did not, but even then, we only had to wait 20 minutes. I was really disappointed when they took the fried brussel sprouts off the appetizer menu, but the Buffalo Califlower Bites are a nice alternative. Everything I've tried here has been pretty good, and service is also generally good. The sit-down bar is a beautiful space, and there is seating for various party sizes. This visit we went for the Friday fish fry. Both were delicious, and the chips my husband opted for were nice and crispy. I chose the baked potato side but had to flay it myself because it was simply plopped on my plate as is. The grilled salmon on my friend's pasta plate was flavorful and flaky, but the portion size was pretty modest. The other unfortunate note is that our dishes were served more warm than hot. Considering more often than not this place is a hit more than a miss, I will continue to make The Bay one of my neighborhood highlights. read more

A friend and I met for lunch there yesterday. I'd never been there but she had and recommended we go there. The decor was so interesting, with photos of the area from years ago. We ordered our lunches, a wrap and salmon salad. It took quite a while to get our lunches. There was a large party dining at the same time, so maybe that was the reason, but my friend had to get back to work and was getting a bit anxious. She said that her wrap was good. But my salmon salad was amazing! It had a perfectly cooked plant of salmon, with fresh spinach leaves, segments of orange and grapefruit, diced beats and a delicious horseradish dressing. It was served in a bowl, nothing to look at , but so tasty. It think serving it on a plate would have shown off the ingredients better. We had to wait a bit to get our check, too. If you don't have much time, I wouldn't recommend, but if you have time, please try The Bay. (A third member of our party had to leave after ordering her wrap due to a family emergency. The server kindly stopped her order and did not charge us. So kind of him.) read more

Lunch today was very disappointing. How can a restaurant mess up a grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of tomato basil soup? The soup was served lukewarm and had little flavor. The grilled cheese sandwich looked like something a young child made to surprise their mom. No taste either. The sandwich was $10! The tiny cup of soup was $2.50. Even my beverage was tasteless. How can you screw up Pepsi? I was amazed that the restaurant was very crowded. Service was slow because there was only one server. It was so loud in the restaurant that you could not have a conversation with the person sitting next to you. The $5 meal at McDonalds is superior to the lunch I had. I would not return. read more

The Pork Stuffed Acorn Squash was quite a strange dish, but I really enjoyed it. The Artichoke Dip was good as well. The restaurant unfortunately was quite messy and there were about 6 tables that hadn't been bussed and needed attention. They may have been understaffed, which is understandable, but it made the atmosphere a little worse just based on being surrounded by dirty dishes and napkins all over. First let me say the service and ambience are great. A nice outdoor area and really clean bathrooms. Clean bathrooms are essential. Sadly the food was not good. I was with a group so lots of different things in the table. Started with the cheese sticks which were wrapped in wonton skins. The wonton skins were pale and chewy and the parts that were brown were hard. One of us ordered pizza, she had to ask for garlic powder and I could see slices of provolone had been used to top the pizza. My vegetarian partner ordered the black bean burger it was soggy, she eventually just pulled it off and ate the bun with her fixings. She also ordered the tomato basil soup which she had to doctor up with the garlic powder and tons of salt. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich it was fine nothing special they just left that annoying tendon on. Our other table mates ordered burgers and fries. They had yeah it wasn't bad. So if you go, stick to the basics. I won't be back. read more

We love the Bay. We want it to continue to do well! I have to say the service is what brings me back all the time. The servers there are amazing. Food comes out hot and timely. Prices are reasonable. Pours are generous. And a lot of great outdoor seating which we enjoyed today. I have been eating vegan and they have 4 vegan items on their menu which is more than other restaurants in the area. FINALLY, outdoor seating is open and we are able to enjoy our meals under the bright sun! I work near The Bay and have heard good reviews, so why not give it a try! I walked in around 2pm on a Wednesday, and it was not very busy. I was promptly seated outside. The waitress kindly took our orders. My party of three shared the Artichoke dip, which is $10.50. The best thing about this dip is that it comes with warm Parmesan pita chips! These are a must! I ordered the Bay Topping burger which comes with a fried egg on top! It was super tasty and comes with coleslaw or fries. My friends ordered the oven roasted beet cornucopia salad, and is was okayyy. Nothing spectacular about it. Decided to try The Bay on a whim because of the pictures of the snickers cake dessert that I saw on Yelp beforehand, and instead I left happier with their Mushroom & Swiss burger than the cake! Second trip to the restaurant, close by and needed a dinner out, too hot to cook at home. The first trip my wife had a chicken salad and myself a burger with a mayo garlic sauce. She liked the salad, I did not like the burger at all. Burger was tasteless, even with bacon on it but the secret sauce to me was nasty. Next time hold the mayo sauce and hit the burger with some kind of steak seasoning or garlic salt. On the second trip last night we were dying for a margarita pizza which we saw on the menu the visit before. Let's just say pizza should not be on their menu. Crust was like quarter inch plywood, sauce had no flavor and barely covered the crust, the cheese was just oily globs of something tasteless. I added a whole lot of parmesan and salt with no results. I ate two pieces and my wife one leaving the rest for the dumpster. That is the first time ever I can remember leaving what we didn't eat. Strike Two!!!!!! read more

This is the site of the former Village Liquor (which I frequented often) in downtown Whitefish Bay. The owners have transformed the space into a very pleasing, light-filled eatery and bar. I was here for lunch with my daughter on a recent weekday. I had the Impossible Burger (superb) with a side of chili while she had a BLAT (A=avocado) and a baked potato. Our server (Sally) delivered Arnold Palmer refills regularly and was very attentive (as was the barman, whose name I didn't get). For dessert, I ordered the delectable peanut butter pie. My daughter ordered the flourless chocolate cake. Not a crumb remained of either. The menu is varied and the prices are reasonable. Free parking is available in the back and metered parking is available on the street. This is a very attractive lunch spot. Went in on Monday June 29 at 630 to get a gift card for a friend that will be living down the street soon. Thought it would be a great gift. The hostess seemed super confused at my request but said someone at the bar would help me. There was no one behind the bar. Five minutes later, Hipster McBeard went behind the bar, glanced at me and proceeded to make some drinks. Hostess came back and said he would be right with me. Hipster took the drinks somewhere and then was gone for several minutes. He came back and talked to someone sitting at the bar and then played with the iPad for a couple minutes. After 10 minutes of waiting I gave up and left. I tried to tell the hostess how disappointed I was but couldn't get her attention. I went next door to the Fox Bay and got a gift card there in 60 seconds. I'm not likely to dine here, either anymore. Which is a shame, I liked their overpriced pizza. read more

The Bay restaurant has been open for at least 2 months. I've got a few friends who have been regularly going here 1-2X per week and always asking me to go with. My rule is to wait at least 2 months for systems, staff and procedures to reach operational efficiency. Otherwise I've experienced spotty service mixed with either good or bla food. From newly opened locations. On the topic of spotty service. This building was not a good match with my phone the manager suggested I use the free Guest WIFI. This place is innovative to have staff use iPads to enter drink and food orders instead of clumping around POS terminals. Tsk tsk (Point of sale) I came in around 6:00pm 7/11/13 to try a new place. Instead of my old routine of the trivia buzztime. I was quickly greeted. Staff were all sharp looking dressed in black. Plenty of bottle beers range 4.00-6.25. Wine in club pours=(approx 9 oz) range 9-11. Menu was very easy select off. Each section had 4-6 choices. Ranging from 2-15 dollars. I was glad to find a majority of the menu that was to my liking. I really wasn't too hungry but I seen 2 people order the Andouille crusted cod, and they were happy. 1 other couple had a burger and cod. Since I'm a picky eater. I ordered the 14 inch pizza partially to go while it was busy and it came out within 10 minutes. It's a hand stretched crust with pepperoni and freshly pinched Italian sausage good for 2 people. The manager made rounds to check on how everyone's meal was. I think his name was Kevin, and he asked if I needed a box for my unfinished pizza to go. On the topic of going, they have a side door to exit across from the restrooms it can be a bottle neck if people are running food since they share the same hallway. They have metered parking up front while the back lot has 2 hour free parking. Most of the outside tables were occupied as the weather was great. Inside was 80% full. They were staffed up pretty good 3-4 tables per server. I sat at the bar. Bartender was friendly offering a drink menu and a food menu. Beer can get spendy if you have more than 2 same goes for wine. The food menu looks very professional while the Beer and wine list was done in two separate fonts giving the appearance of Cut and Paste I hope they continue to add and change till the final edition. I could see coming back for the pizza, steak sandwich. Food: 4. The chocolate cake is house made without flour. I'm sure it's unhealthy since it tastes so good! Moderation and self restrain in this case is called for. Ambiance: 4 Cloth napkins and fancy utensils. A nice mix of old B/W pictures and local paintings. Dark ceilings and dark wood tables chair and bar. The seats could use a bit of padding if you plan on staying for a game. Service: 5 Very attentive. Location: 4 Value: 3 I can't drink like I want here so one beer is my limit. $$ two max. 3 beers exceeds the price of most entrees and the meal is price is now doubled?? Grrr. I ordered the Bay Burger ($10), which is topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, a fried egg and "Bay Sauce." The burger patty is grilled per the description, but didn't taste grilled. The patty didn't have much seasoning, so not much flavor. The fried egg was a beautifully cooked sunny side up egg, but when I broke the yolk, not much flowed out, which helped prevent the burger from being too messy. The Bay sauce was pretty good. I couldn't make out specific ingredients, but it was a little spicy. The house made chips looked appetizing, so they must do a nice job keeping the cooking oil clean. They would have been good with the right amount of seasoning. They had none. My friend ordered the house made tortilla chips with her chicken sandwich, which she enjoyed. I tried one of the tortilla chips and thought it was great. I would buy a bag of them to take home and eat with guac or pico. The menu has six burgers/sandwiches, four salads, and four entrees. Some items on the menu are changed out frequently. Some of the entrees looked good, such as the Andouille sausage crusted cod, but I'm leary about a chef who can't make a great burger. It was good, but not great. I'd call it a $6 burger, not a $10 burger. I might go back to try an entree - maybe. read more
