Let me just tell you how wonderfully amazing this tasted on a very hot day, which felt like it was over 100. I stopped by for a scoop of mint chip custard and it was creamy, rich, cool, and delicious. But - really is there no bad day for custard? No, there isn't! This place is busy all year round, and for good reason. For the custard, there is usually a flavor of the day, plus the usual favorites, vanilla and chocolate, plus a sundae and shake of the month. A sign outdoors advertises the flavor of the day and a monthly menu of each flavor of the day is available online, if you want to plan ahead for your visit. If you've not been to this Milwaukee icon, it's a must-stop; the custard is really, really good. The retail store is set up like a 50s type diner, and there are plenty of folks ready to take your order. There is no seating indoors, just a few tables for standing-only to munch and chat. However, there is outdoor seating like a mini amphitheater on cement steps, and when the weather is nice, it is not unusual to see large groups of customers sitting outside eating ice cream or other treats or burgers. My third visit to Kopp's, and it continues to deliver. The food is consistently good, the frozen custard is excellent, and the prices are reasonable. This time I had the KRK Burger with fries and onion rings along with two scoops of Cookies & Cream custard in a waffle cone. Everything was delicious. The restaurant is clean, well lit, and runs efficiently. Even when it's busy, the staff keeps the line moving and is always friendly and helpful. I also love their rotating Flavor of the Day custard options, and they even post a three day forecast so you can plan ahead. Overall, Kopp's is a great spot for both food and dessert. I am giving a 2-star rating for the incredibly disappointing service I received and the dirty bathroom. I placed an order at 8:17PM for 1 junior sundae and 1 scoop of icecream in a dish. I noticed around 8:30 that many people were receiving their orders before I got mine. At 8:33PM, I asked a girl at the counter to check on my order and she rolled her eyes and asked another girl to check on it. The other girl asked to see my receipt and she found my order in a paper bag on the counter and it was forgotten about (I did not ask for a bag and I said I didn't need lids when I ordered). I received the order and when I opened it, they didn't give me spoons. I asked for spoons and the girl seemed annoyed. No apology for the mix up or anything. Kopps is about as consistent restaurant there is, except last night. I order my go to Election Day meal, a fish sandwich and onions rings. The onion rings though not hot, were still crunchy and delicious. Do not get the fish sandwich, it is no way as good as it used to be, period. Kopp's was packed. There's not much room to dine in, just a few tables along the wall where you can stand if you're lucky enough to grab one. There are also stairs outside, and a lot of people were out there eating and hanging out. Even though it was so busy, they had a really organized system and the wait wasn't too long. But that burger was good. You could actually taste the butter, and it was huge. The toppings were fresh too. I also tried the custard of the day, wedding cake, and it was so good. This is always a set stop on our road trip from Chicago to Wisconsin, but our experience was a bit more disappointing this time. Even though we were one of the first guests (right after 10:30), we still had to wait about 15 minutes for our food & custard and it wasn't even that busy this time. The meat quality is good but I didn't like my burger the Kopps way. My husband ordered it like this because it seemed easy and good, but it had way too much relish and onions. This trip we had a 6 and 1,5 year old with us and this place can be a little stressful with young kids as there is no official seating. Second visit in a week and the last visit the lane that says orders for grill and fountain orders, the gentleman said that I couldn't order ice cream there only grilll orders at this register. I said but that's not what it says and there was a long line in the fountain orders and he had no one line. Then today I ordered a scoop of ice cream on a waffle cone so that's $4.50 the ice cream barely covered the top of the cone and I told her I've never had a cone with such little ice cream in it and I'm paying almost $5 for it. Got fries, one cheeseburger with the works minus mustard and one plain cheeseburger for the two toddlers to share (and since these cheeseburgers are as big as your face it was double the amount of food they could eat). Key Lime Pie Custard: Kopp's was founded in Milwaukee in 1950, meaning they've been serving up jumbo size burgers and frozen custard for 70 years. Along with their everyday flavors, Kopp's offers two rotating flavors of the day. Key Lime Pie happened to be one of the flavors the evening of a friend's wedding and someone grabbed a couple quarts for a late-night dessert at the reception. As I'm not a fan of key lime pie in general, this is a flavor I would never go out and purchase on my own, but I thought I'd still give the custard a chance to prove me wrong. The large pie crust pieces found throughout are possibly the best I've had. I was blown away by how good they were! That said, the key lime custard was gross in my opinion, but like I mentioned, so is key lime pie. Way too tart for an ice cream or custard flavor. Avoid (unless you're a fan of key lime pie). They lacked flavor and the overall texture was like the burgers I make...after they were in the fridge overnight and were microwaved the following day. The fries were just standard shoestring fries like those from McDonald's so nothing to brag about. The custard was the only redeeming part of the meal. I do feel bad for the workers as they were extremely busy but that's part of the job. Kopp's started in 1950 in Milwaukee by a German immigrant after husband had Parkinson's. She had no restaurant experience, and now some years later, 74 years, there are three restaurants. Each with their own identity! We have been enjoying their restaurants for some years... my husband use to venture to Kopp's on his bike for burgers for college .... Now some years later we enjoy our visit as a couple....we enjoy grilled chicken sandwiches and sundaes. Unfortunately like everything prices have gone up and size of sandwich has shrunk. Sandwiches use to be $2.10 in 1994 and today $6.50 with nothing on them except for grill onions, everything else is a charge including tomatoes. A bit pricey for this sandwich these days as just a thin piece of chicken. The custard is still yummy....a new flavor everyday that you can monitor online. Plus really good fudge. A junior sundae is $3.99. As for seating. Outside space on cement risers available or you can take it to go! Worth a stop for custard! read more

This spot made me reconsider some big decisions. Christian McCaffrey goes #1 in most fantasy league drafts across platforms. But most people haven't had Kopp's. Rolling seven guys into an old school burger joint is a gluttons bread and butter. My eyes sparkled in wonderful awe of this menu. As I ordered, Carl made sure to offer a gauntlet of sauce options. He must've done his research, as the spicy mustard laid the foundation for other key players to excel. Prior to touching my entree, onion rings were gruesomely dragged into the aforementioned crown jewel of condiments. These things added a good two years to my life expectancy. Eating them brought forth sighs akin to a deep tissue massage. My stressors never stood a chance to these crispy circles of love! I breezed past this, but Carl and the rest of this crew were a machine. A beautiful noise. You think it's the hats? My final allotment of praise must be sweet. Normally butterscotch, banana or strawberry would get the bullpen call when a shake is on the line. But one elusive character caught my eye, marshmallow. Even though this is not their original location, I do love the cow statues here and there is plenty of parking available. Their cheeseburger with the works is absolutely the best thing ever, and my friend recently told me that she gets it with blue cheese and a few other things, and I had no idea how many possibilities I was missing out on.
