First went to Oscars decades ago. I don't often get back, but I'm glad I made time when I was in the area. Food: I think the custard here is excellent. It's creamy, flavorful, and they give you a good portion. For the month of February, they had a special, "Cupid's Creation." Lots of yummy additions that give it amazing flavor and texture. It was larger than something I would normally eat, but it was oh so good. My friend had the vanilla malt, and he enjoyed that. FYI, my past experiences with some of the other cooked food items have not been stellar, so I only get ice cream confections when I'm there. Service: Friendly and helpful service from the person who took our order. Our ice cream desserts came out in short order. Atmosphere: The Red Barn exterior is cute and inviting. Love the cone-shaped sign out front. Inside is spacious, well lit, and clean. There are plenty of tables inside, along with tables at the front that have large windows that bring in natural light. I first heard about Oscar's while reading an article on Milwaukee's frozen custard scene, and I'm glad I gave it a try. For years Kopp's has been my go-to, but Oscar's has quickly won me over -- it's now my favorite frozen custard shop in the city. The texture is what sets it apart: dense, thick, and creamy, exactly how custard should be. Their flavors of the day change daily, and the website makes it easy to check ahead. I usually get a three-scoop dish, and Oscar's is also the best value of the big three -- $4.15 compared to $6.00 at Kopp's and $7.25 at Gilles. A neat tip: you can order a cone with your custard and ask for it in a dish -- they'll place the cone on top so you get the best of both worlds without the mess. They also serve burgers and fries, and I tried a hamburger once. While decent, I still prefer the burgers at Kopp's, so Oscar's will remain my go-to spot for a frozen custard fix. The West Allis location has plenty of parking and indoor seating. Service is fast and the staff are always super friendly. Very vintage style place to get an affordable bite to eat. The outdoor seating is lovely especially when the weather is great. The service was great, they were patient when I took forever to get a good look at the menu before ordering and the worker was very polite. Now let's get to the food. I had the shake of the month for September 2025: peanut butter Oreo which was delicious, great consistency, good peanut butter ratio and there was bits of oreos in every sip if that's your jam. The cheeseburger was simple, the prices are reasonable I feel, and there's an additional cost for toppings like lettuce and tomato. I wasn't the biggest fan of the meat but at least it was not too costly, it was still enjoyable. I stopped by just for the flavor of the day: peanut butter fudge royale and it did not disappoint! The frozen custard was thick, rich, and perfectly creamy. We asked for it in a cone placed on a dish, and when you flipped it upside down, it didn't even budge--that's how thick it was! The flavor was spot on, and the texture was amazing. I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this location considering how often we stop here. We absolutely love this place compared to other local custard places in the area. The absolute best value AND quality. How can you beat that? The flame broiled burgers always smell great and we'll grab food here from time to time. Aside from most of the traditional toppings costing more, this is still a solid burger. But, the big highlights are the fries and onion rings. Perfectly crispy! Every time we visit family in Wisconsin we have to get Oscar's at some point. This frozen custard is royalty amongst all frozen custard. It is so light and super creamy. The homemade waffle cones are wonderful with any flavor. Each day has a different Flavor of the Day custard. If you were also hungry I would suggest keeping it simple with a cheeseburger or grilled cheese for the vegetarians. I've been going to Oscar's for at least thirty years. The quality of the custard and food has always been excellent. The burgers are flame broiled and delicious. A friend of mine had a heart attack and was craving a burger, so he asked his cardiologist if he could get one. The doctor said the only place he would okay was Oscar's because they use a lean sirloin patty. My favorite sandwich is the fish, it includes pickles, tarter sauce, lettuce and cheese. It's always nice white fish with a crunchy breading. The custard is excellent, and the sundaes are great. They have a monthly special sandwich, sundae and shake. Lastly, the prices here are actually right on the money. I recently had the monthly special sundae at another custard stand in the Milwaukee area, and it was nearly $13 Oscar's is half that price. read more

I have been thinking about the Peanut Butter Cup sundae from Oscar's for, well, longer than I care to admit. I dated a guy that lived in the area (more years ago than I care to admit) and we would hit this spot up fairly regularly. But I don't have much reason to get over to this side of town so Oscar's and their great food had faded into the recesses of my memory until I heard that vaccinated folks were able to score a free Krispy Kreme, and the only KK outlet in Wisconsin happens to be just down the street! But I digress. Despite the many years being away from Oscar's, it did not disappoint! The sundae was just as peanut buttery as I remembered it to be. And luck of all lucks, the burger of the month was that bastion of the few times we dined out during my childhood, the pizzaburger! The combination of these two items really brought me back decades, in a very positive way. The only reservation I have here from going with five stars is the clumsy process for ordering and waiting for your food. Walked in to order, everyone talking to each other. Sat down to see if someone would acknowledge me, went back to the counter and said I was waiting for help. The young guy that claimed to be the manager was beyond hostile, snarky and insulted and misgendered me. I was beyond angry and left when the guy got more awful. I called back to get his name, he refused to give it. At the counter he told me he owned the store, but I have met the owners , not them. So he was completely combative and nasty. This was a horrible experience, i was told after the fire to try this location, I used to go there decades hy 18. This manager was just attacking my gender and clothing and thinking it was funny to provoke a customer. The owners need to follow up on this incident. read more

I have been coming to Oscar's since I was a little girl, and it never disappoints! It's easily the best custard in Milwaukee. We went in on Memorial Day, and the flavor of the day was special for the holiday. It was regular custard with cheesecake, blueberries, and maybe strawberries? It was creamy and delicious! We also got the sundae of the month, which was vanilla custard swirled with an ample amount of strawberries and chocolate, then topped with whipped cream and a cherry! Delicious! Happy national hamburger day! I've never been here so I thought it was fitting to stop in and try a hamburger today. I decided I'm getting the California burger. I got the quarter pound burger it came with lettuce tomato and mayo and I added American cheese. I also ordered a side of french fries and a chocolate malt. The service was fast and friendly. The burger was done well which I prefer medium rare but I don't think you really have a choice at a place like this. The french fries were nice and hot and skinny which I like. I get that they are all kids, and that it's only 30 minutes to closing time, but the girl could not have been more annoyed to have to serve me a junior size custard - which took her all of 10 seconds. When she shoved it in my hand, she actually got ice cream all over my hand. Maybe she just liked me and that was her way of showing it. Then when I went into the bathroom, somebody came in - while I was peeing - and made some kind of remark to me (and then giggled), and then another employee followed him in and yelled something and giggled and ran out. I assume they're all just playing around but I don't see that kind of thing too often. It doesn't bother me but I bet it would have bothered other people. I can prove it didn't bother me - I'm still giving 5 stars despite all these attitudes and oddness. So yeah, the place has issues. However, at under $2 for a very hearty normal size cone... Words can't even describe how horrible these people made me feel the whole time I was ordering food. It was like they were judging me because of my race. They kept looking at me funny when I asked for ranch with my cheese curds they charged me extra, when we also ordered chicken tenders they charged again extra for sauce, when I order mayonnaise on a burger they charged extra, when I added lettuce to a full works burger they charged extra. None the less everything was completely old and cold from the fry's, to the chicken tenders, burger and on top of that the cheese curds. I've had the burgers which I enjoy, unfortunately they were advertising a meatball sub and generally I've had good luck wherever I buy them. So I gave it a shot and was so disappointed. It was on a soft hoagie roll which was saturated and mushy from spaghetti sauce. But the worst thing was biting into the so called meatballs. Looking at the color of the tiny meatball, I was surprised to see it couldn't have been made with hamburger, because it was grayish. I gave 2 stars only because I like other menu items .
