I have some friends that eat here fairly often, but none of them LOVE it. I have been here 3 times and have NEVER had good service. The food is slightly better than the buffet in Moscow, but MUCH more expensive. Please, do yourself a favor and drive another two blocks to Golden Teriyaki...you will be glad you did!!! read more

I have incredibly high standards for Chinese food, and for the most part, since moving to Washington, I've been disappointed. Until I went to the Emerald. The service was quick, it took less than fifteen minutes to serve a family of five. The food was warm, delicious, and tasty. Especially their won ton soup, which is in my top five best ever, and one of the foods I judge Chinese restaurants by. Their takeaway service is also very nice. Whenever I order takeout, they show me to a table and give me a glass of water while I wait for the food. Overall excellent. read more

You know, The Emerald is actually pretty good. I was expecting it to suck because of the area. I mean, Pullman is not exactly a hub of diversity and culture. When I move away, I won't dream of this place or anything, but it will definitely satisfy a craving while I'm here. I judge American-Chinese restaurants by their Hot and Sour soup. The one here is good. It's sour enough, bold enough, and you can definitely taste the sesame oil. The heat is mild, but it's there. The white pepper on the table helps it along. I get the soup every time. Another thing I like to order is the Qingzho fried rice noodle. It's very tasty. I believe it is seasoned with curry powder and five spice. It has a generous amount of shrimp. Actual shrimp, not the baby, space filler kind. Tonight, I also had the mapo tofu with prawns. Again, generous helping of shrimp, but it was too salty. The rest of the dish was good, but I probably won't order it again. The restaurant decor is nothing exciting. Pink and green. Strange colors for a Chinese restaurant. Or any restaurant. But it's clean, and the booth benches aren't split. Split open bench cushion grosses me out. The service is perfunctory, but efficient. I have no complaints. I don't need servers to pretend to be my best friends. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant. read more

This is the best Chinese food I've had for the price (PF Changs is better, I think, but you pay quite a bit more for it.) Its also the best Chinese food in the Quad-Cities. Service is incredible, and the food tastes fresh and good grief does it come out fast. I wouldn't go anywhere else on the Palouse for Chinese. Parking is pretty slim. read more

We got the dinner combo A, w sweet n sour prawns, hunan chicken, and the vegetable medley. It came with very good servings, perfect for two ppl plus plenty of leftovers at a very good price. Came w a simple bbq pork fried rice and a very tasty egg flower soup. Our server was a very pleasant middle aged lady who checked in on us often and warned us very nicely if a plate was hot. It was super sweet and all of the food was so good especially for pullman, where most of the chinese places are not the best, but this one is :) read more

My son (a former Coug) recommended this restaurant as well as New Garden. I guess they are owned by the same family. The food was incredible! I am always looking for delicious Honey Walnut Prawns and this place did not disappoint! This dish was absolutely divine and I wish I could have them deliver to Gig Harbor...we also loved the chow mein (chicken). We will certainly plan to go back when we are again in Pullman. read more

One of my favorite places in Pullman. We just ate here on game day, dad's weekend. When everywhere in town is packed and going to have a long wait, we were seated right away and our food came quickly. Huge portions and never disappointed when you want that typical Chinese food fix. I am a fan of the Chinese food. While this isn't my favorite Chinese place ever it is my favorite in Pullman. I go to The Emerald quite regularly. Every time I go in the Ower is very kind and helpful. The service is great for dinning in or take out. I used to order by phone and come pick up but they make the food so fast it really isn't much of a wait if you order out and have to wait for it. Their food is always good. I have received the wrong thing before but that was one time and it was good anyway. If you haven't been go its well worth it. read more

Definitely the best Chinese place in Pullman. It has the most authentic dishes (from the Chinese menu) and the staff is always super generous. I recommend the Pork Intestines and other spicy dishes, and then get a ton of white rice to go with it. read more

With so many Chinese restaurants to choose from here, I decided to start with this one after reading the reviews. Their chow mein is pretty damn good! Lots of char siu so you get some with every bite. The sweet and sour chicken, on the other hand...a little too soggy for my taste. It probably didn't help that it was drowning in sauce. I ate here last night, and while it wasn't the best Chinese I'd ever had, it certainly was very, very delicious. The Kung Pao chicken had a lovely sauce and was just the right amount of spicy to smooth. I think the fried wontons could have had a little more filling, but they were still very satisfying. The Mongolion beef is some of the best I've had. I'll definitely be going back to see if the rest of their dishes stand up to the quality of mine. read more

This is the best Chinese restaurant in the Palouse area. They have a "secret menu" with more authentic Chinese dishes. If you feel adventurous, you should try their "dry pepper pork", "green onion oil chicken", "lamb stew with tofu skin". read more

New Owners! Surprisingly good if you order from the Chinese menu! We've ordered 6 different items from the "special" menu, each outstanding. The spicy chicken containing chicken pieces with bones is incredibly good, with strong notes of ginger and a goodly amount of spice. Shrimp were fresh and perfectly cooked. The caution here is that these dishes are meat, so if you are looking for dishes that are vegetarian or mostly veggie you are back to the regular menu. The "regular" menu has offerings that are pretty much standard, not-very-Chinese food. We have found it essential to order from the new menu and to insist to the waitstaff that we really like our food Chinese spicy. We've found we have to ask for the special menu more often than not. read more

The Emerald is definitely the best Chinese restaurant to go at Pullman. I have been all Chinese restaurants near this small town, and the Emerald deserves more favors than others. As a Chinese restaurant, it offers top level Chinese cuisine, which varies from frying, steaming, and stewing. Its unique cooking recipes that are well combined with local fresh food make the food more enjoyable, even though the price is around 12-20 bucks for per person. The entire meal definitely matches up with this price for such delicious cuisine. However, if you are not a type of person who is looking for luxury dinner, but affordable without loosing flavorful, the Emerald offers lunch special, for example, crispy shrimp with fried rice. These awesome deals are not bad choices for people who want food blending both Chinese and American food. They also provide delivery service that convenient to the people who do not want to go out for meal. In order to make people knowing what they have for everyday, they have the small white board showing the recommended dishes or something is not on menu. Also, there is a special soup it offers every weekend. The menu is very Chinese way. If you have not found your favorite Chinese food before, actually you are more than welcome to ask them to build your favor Chinese food. We always have them make different foods even some are not on the menu. The waiter and chef always do their best to satisfy the requests of clients. read more

The Emerald is always my first choice in Pullman. Hot tea and ice water are offered immediately after siting down, and the table is consistently clean without oil or dirt. The lighting condition is just alright for enjoying traditional Chinese food, and there are several tiny lanterns hung closely to the window. Since I have lived in Pullman for nearly 6 months, I went there many times. Almost every time I have dinner there, one of the waitresses always asks my friends and me if we are satisfied with the food. I think it really shows the respect toward customers and make customers feel at home and warm in heart. Also, the quantity of dishes can make you feel full at any time. As for Spicy Boiled Fish, the ingredient is really fresh and plentiful. Fish tastes soft yet chewy, and the seasoning is special. It can be seen an expert cooking skills of making traditional Chinese food because of its difficulties. The most important is that the speed of serving is faster than those of any other restaurants, I can be provided all of dishes less than 15 minutes after ordering. The price is just right for me, I can enjoy 4 different kinds of food with my best friend by spending about $55. In addition, The Emerald is right across to Dissmores, so I can go there after eating, I think it's super convenient. Moreover, if you don't have a car or you cannot drive, you can take a bus ("North") to Dissmores first and go across the street to The Emerald. Also, the parking lot outside is wide enough for customers to park (at least 6 cars can be parked). The decor is special and simple yet overall, it's a great place with delicious dishes at an affordable price. Heard this place was good. It ISN'T! Ordered combination #7. Chow Mein was served very hot which I like but veggies were underdone. Pork fried rice appeared as previously described by someone else.....smidgen of pork on top....flavor wasn't bad. Bland looking. Both the sweet and sour pork and the almond chicken were nothing but BALLS of mostly tough meat with different sauces poured over....VERY unappealing! Have never had either of those dishes prepared that way. Also two ladies were speaking very loudly during a portion of the meal.....not relaxing for me. Won't be back! read more

Looking for some late night food on a Sunday night Emerald was one of the few places left open so I decided to give it a try. I must say I regret my decision. My boyfriend and I ordered beef and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken and almond chicken. First off the chicken dishes were a joke. The almond chicken had almost zero breadcrumbs. It was as if the cook forgot they were supposed to be on the dish and at the last second took a tablespoon of them and threw them on the plate - not even on the chicken, just in a small portion of the sauce. The port fried rice was extremely bland. I only took a few bites and decided I couldn't push through eating anymore. The beef and broccoli was okay....not the best. There weren't many people in the restaurant, I think we actually could've been the only ones, and I don't know if it's because not many people were there but the staff seemed rather unprofessional. An employee there talked VERY loudly on her phone on speaker throughout our entire meal which I found very inconsiderate. Also when we got up to go pay for the meal the cashier/waitress just stares at your receipt as you figure out your tip which was very uncomfortable as I felt like she didn't earn much of a tip at all. On just a personal sad note I've also never been to an American Chinese restaurant that didn't give a fortune cookie out :( all in all I would say definitely stay away from this restaurant. First of all, I'm not Chinese, but I love Chinese food and we often try Chinese restaurants, but this restaurant was the worst ever. Here's why. The food was just ok, nothing special, nothing that would prompt us to go back there. If it was only for food, I would've gave it a 3 star. But here's my worst experience ever. We were invited there by someone, among a group of about 20 people, most of them we didn't know. We sat around the table and looked at the menue. Since we had special food restrictions, we checked the ingredients carefully and ordered some that we could eat. It took them About 40 minuto bring us the food, during which time there was no entertainment for the kids, not even a coloring page. The waitress was clumsy as well, pouring water all over the table while trying to fill someone's glass. Finally the food arrived, but they just served all the orders at either end of the table, just shouting the name of the food in Chinese, and we were like, what the hell is going on?!!!! Just imagine our disappointment and frustration at that time!! After 2-3 dishes were served I tried to ask the waitress if each of the served dishes had any of our disliked ingredients and they were totally unfriendly in responding. So we were left digging around each food to find the ingredients inside, that was awful. I'm not even sure if we finally could find what we really ordered, but had to find something we could actually eat among all the food on the table. that was definitely our worst experience ever, there was absolutely no respect to the customer. Unlike other asian resturants in Pullman, I rarely have to worry about my water glass being empty (a little thing that bugs me). The people who work there are very nice. It is my first choice for Chinese in Pullman. I enjoy the friendly and peaceful environment, and also the Chinese traditional style. This restaurant under warm lamplight, it's a good choice if you have date with your friends. There are varieties of foods you can choose. Especially some spicy foods you can only eat here! I like the water boiled fish and sweet sour soup, there are very delicious. I went here with my friend, she likes the chow mein best which is on their special lunch menu. In particular, you can get free soup on weekends, it sounds good, right! Compared the price with other Chinese restaurant, the Emerald is more expensive. As I have lot of the experience, the price of The Emerald is not as cheap as panda express, As each dish can cost about $12, however, you can be very satisfied with the taste and its quantity and quality!
