The Eagle is one of my favorite restaurants in Indy. The fried chicken is the star of the menu, and it never disappoints with its seasoning and light breading. The Mac and cheese is my favorite side, and-- as a Mac and cheese connoisseur-- one of my favorite Macs out there. There's a large patio which is great during the warm months, and the inside typically has plenty of room. I would recommend going during a slower time because the wait does get really long at peak times! Service is always fast and great. You can never go wrong with lunch or dinner at The Eagle. There's typically always a wait, this day it was a 20 minute wait, so we decided to sit at the bar. The service was average, not bad but average. One thing I always thought was cool is that they have shared seating (you can end up sitting with complete strangers) you're either going to love this or hate it, depending on your personality type. We ordered the 1/4 dark chicken, French fries, sweet potatoes, mac & cheese, shrimp & grits, and collard greens. I also had the champagne punch for a cocktail. I can't believe I haven't written a review here yet! This is my go-to spot on mass ave. The Mac and cheese is to die for. I bring my friends from out of town just to eat the Mac and cheese--it's that good. PERFECTLY al dente, with creamy cheese mmmm. The chicken of course is delicious, but come for the salads too! The kale salad is my favorite. AND you cannot miss the homemade biscuits. I am drooling just thinking about it. If you're here with a large group, just get the group set dinner. It's so worth it. The Eagle is good and consistent. My favorite dishes are the chicken and waffles! And their shrimp and grits! Not gonna lie, their shrimp and grits are some of the best I've had. Not sure where they get their shrimp, but it's flavorful the way season it and super fresh! And I can't forget the biscuits. Just get 'em and thank me later. **Warning** I will not be held responsible for the impact to your waistline! Taste cautiously! You've been warned. The atmosphere gives bar vibes in the fact that it's kinda loud. But there's outdoor seating (when weather permits) that might help a bit. One critique I have. For some reason, the entry way always has a foul smell to me. Thankfully it doesn't resonate throughout the restaurant, but just noticed it the last time that all 3 times, I've been, there's been a foul smell by the entrance. I sure wished they fixed that. Haven't been here in years, but it's my friends favorite place so here we are. When they said 40-75min wait, I was surprised! Now part of that was due to the outside patio being closed. As always I added my name and since the bar was first come first serve then I headed over and it was very open. Grabbed a drink while we waited for a table. The bartenders were on top of it. I got the Negroni sour and it was more sour than Negroni but it was ok. Finally got a table that opened and it was a communal table but now I see that they have added dividers, which kinda work but still weird. Our server was great, came around often enough. The food was bland. My chicken sandwich didn't have much flavor going on. I will say that the chicken was tender but could've used more crisp to it. The fries were golden and had a good crunch which I love but also not much flavor, even though they looked seasoned. I'm not sure what the dipping sauce that came with the fries was but that was good! The fries were also enough for multiple people to share. read more

The black berry jam with the biscuits are amazing (if you like uptown cafes homemade jam- you'll like this) the Mac and cheese was nice and creamy! I've seen one of these restaurants in Pittsburgh and wanted to try it, but never got the chance. So, when in this area and seeing they had one and the reviews were really good, I went in. I sat at the bar during lunch and they weren't busy at all. They feature a menu which centers around their fried chicken, they have related sides, and sandwiches too. I opted for a ¼ chicken dark meat, which actually comes with 2 legs and a thigh for $10, which I thought was a great deal for a "restaurant" style fried chicken. I also ordered a side of cole slaw with it. The fried chicken was excellent! The meat was very moist and flavorful and I loved the breading too, which was very light. It comes with their hot honey, which actually had a nice little kick to it and was a nice compliment to the chicken. Their cole slaw was excellent! Glad we had a big hightop table in the back, with plenty of room for people & food. For 5 people, definitely recommend the hush puppies, sweet potato, and baked biscuits. The Eagle was a nice restaurant in the Downtown area of Indianapolis. I started the meal ordering a strawberry cider, which was bottled. Personally I found it to be too sweet, and would have rather ordered a beer on tap. We got our entrees which were all a generous portion. The grilled cheese had sliced apples inside and was served with a jam on the side. Bread was crispy and the cheese was melty and indulgent. The Mac and cheese came out hot and was cheesy and good. The breadcrumb topping added a nice crunch. Lastly, I got the dark meat fried chicken served with their homemade hot honey. The skin was perfect golden brown and the chicken was tender and not fatty. Overall, this place had solid American pub food and I would go back to watch televised games as we got to watch one of the BIG tournament games right in front of our table. We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted by the sweet friendly bartender who made usTHE BEST blackberry lemonade cocktail. The ambiance inside is ok but the outdoor seating on the corner is nice. The picnic tables are a bit awkward though and have u leaning way in to the table to eat . The chicken legs are really delicious and fresh. They need more sauce options though. A lot of the menu items are very spicy so if u don't like heat maybe not ur pace. The food i'd say was pretty good their mac and cheese side was great taste. The burnt ends appetizer was a bit dry and fatty for my liking. The plating to me was a bit bland. Great service considering how slammed the bartender was. I've been here multiple times and tried multiple things and it's all great! I think the chicken legs are the best deal on the menu, you get 5 for $12! And they are incredible. If you like southern sweet tea they also have that! Pairs great with their chicken. But I personally love the middle bar room - great for people watching if it's too hot outside. Whether I'm getting fried chicken or the fried chicken sandwich it's always hot and fresh. Can't go wrong with any of the sides too. The sandwiches don't come with a side which is a little bit of a bummer so it's an add on, but again the portion for the price isn't bad. I finally made it out to The Eagle, which has been on my list for a while. I came on a Thursday night around 7:30 and it was somewhat busy, my friend and I sat at the bar/patio area and got seats right away but it looked like some larger parties had to wait. The Eagle seems to specialize in fried chicken, as these types of items comprise much of the menu. I ordered... Fried chicken sandwich ($12): a well seasoned tired chicken cutlet with spicy mayo and coleslaw. 10/10, I am not a coleslaw person at all but this sandwich made me like it! Fries ($5, a la carte): the serving of fries is huge, and nice and crispy. Not the hottest fries ever but still delicious. House lemonade ($4): this is where the review loses a star because it was just a lemonade from a syrup/soda tap and not a fresh in-house lemonade, as I was kind of expecting. Maybe it's just a misnomer, but as a native southerner I was hoping for that same kind of fresh lemonade. This place was AWESOME! It was a Saturday afternoon around 6pm when we arrived. We were told the bar seating area was open or there was a 45 min wait for tables. Not that I like waiting but when there's a wait, I start to assume it must be good cause there's so many people. This was a good sign. I had looked at the menu previously and had done some research so we ordered the chicken sandwich, mac and cheese with shrimp, and 1/4 chicken (dark meat) which came with two legs and a thigh (FYI: white meat is a chicken breast and a wing). I'd like to point out that our food came out super quick. Keep in mind the place was packed! Everything looked amazing but I do want to mention that the food looks way bigger in pictures. I was imagining having to bring some food home but we finished it all and were satisfied. Let's start with the chicken sandwich. I had read in several reviews that it lacked a sauce but I think they had since corrected that because it did have a spread. I still went ahead and ordered a side of comeback sauce which tasted like mayo and ketchup but with a hint of Dijon mustard maybe. The chicken was flavorful and juicy with a light crispy outside. I wish there was a bit more coleslaw and that it was sweeter to balance the savoriness of the chicken. The breast was soft. Next, the Mac and cheese. The pasta was cooked al dente, so perfect. The cheese sauce was good but I wish it was drowning in it rather than just lightly coated. I was not too impressed with the shrimp as it was bland. So overall this was my least favorite but I think it was still a good option. The chicken was really good. It was well marinated and a perfect amount of saltiness. The skin is crispy but it's not a hard crispy, it's a subtle one. The meat is juicy and tender. I tried it with the hot honey but I kind of think the flavor of the chicken is enough and it doesn't need the hot honey. And yes, as the name implies, it does taste like spicy honey. The inside is spacious and looks clean. I imagine the outdoor seating is nice in the warmer months. It also is downtown so it's a good place to eat at and walk around after (depending on the climate). read more

On my last night in Indianapolis, I came here to eat real late into the night. It was about a little over an hour before they closed. I want to highlight during this review that the waiter that helped me(I forgot his name, I'm sorry) was very friendly and checked on me often. He even made small talk with me and made me feel really welcomed. Bearded dude that worked in the back inside of the restaurant, I thank you. Anyways, he suggested their chicken sandwich. I'm not a fan of fried chicken sandwiches but this was good. I had one beer to go with my meal. I left more than satisfied with a good lasting impression of downtown Indianapolis. Very friendly when you walk in the door. They took our name and it was a 40 minute wait. Not too bad for all the St. Patrick's Day activities going on at Mass Avenue. The macaroni and cheese with shrimp and chicken was definitely my favorite. I would not get the chicken BLT again. There was not much flavor to it and there was enough lettuce to have your own side salad. That macaroni n cheese with shrimp was fire! It's a little noisy, but it was very clean and we sat in a back room with a large party. There was a TV in that room so that was kind of nice for the kids OK, the adults too lol. Not a very extensive menu. Mainly a few sandwiches a few salads and lots of drinks options. I feel like this is a good place just to meet friends and have a light meal with drinks. Southern style Friendsgiving in Indianapolis. If you have a chance, go visit, trendy and popular Mass Ave where some of Indy's most popular restaurants exist! One of the best is the eagle that serves all things southern including delicious fried chicken ( with a side of hot honey!) , biscuits and mashed smashed sweet potatoes with mini marshmallows!
