Came here for birthday dinner and had the chance to try their 3 course menu. The entire place is filled with history of The Derby. The interior definitely takes you back to the good 'ol times of fancy dinning. All 3 courses were amazing and of course the prime rib is to die for, the suggested wine pairing was perfect. As for the dessert, besides the Baked Alaska (say less), the BREAD PUDDING! I was never a bread pudding person but this pudding has changed my impression and this bread pudding has set a standard for me. I love the restaurant offers both valet parking and self parking! So if anyone is wearing "sit down shoes", there's always an option the entire experience was miraculous, attentive service. Great steakhouse. I visited this steakhouse last week to celebrate a work event, and I ordered the calamari and the Dine LA course. For my starter, I had the French onion soup. While I haven't had much French onion soup before, I found it to be quite salty and beefy for my taste. It might be perfect for someone who's a true fan of the dish, but I didn't particularly enjoy it. For my entrée, I had the prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. It was absolutely delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the dish, especially the sweet potatoes and the mashed potatoes that accompanied it. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. For dessert, I chose the German chocolate cake, which was fantastic. I usually prefer cakes without nuts, but my boyfriend loved it. The cheesy pizza bread that came out was also a highlight. I'm not sure who ordered it or what exactly it was, but it was incredibly tasty. The service here was excellent--fast and friendly. What a gem of a restaurant that holds so much history and stories that you may hear from your server about its colorful past. Sarah was our server and she was quite attentive except for the last 1/2 hour when we were finished with our meals; she clearly avoided us. Still, the experience was a really good one and food is rich but delicious. The onion soup was delectable through the last drop! Cheese oozing all over the wonderfully cooked onions and tasty broth. Hubby loved his salmon with rice pilaf and my wonderful rosemary chicken arrived with such a generous portion on a bed of spinach and French fries. All was scrumptious. Came here for the DineLA specials. I was able to make a reservation day of. We arrived at 7:45pm and had to wait a few minutes before we got seated. They brought us complimentary garlic cheese bread to start. Was pretty good. We ordered the prime rib and upgraded to the ribeye medium rare. Shrimp cocktail and calamari for starters. Cheesecake and German chocolate cake for desserts. My fiance also paired his ribeye with the recommended red wine. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were large. The fried calamari was crispy and tender. The prime rib was a large portion. Unfortunately it had a lot of tendons that got stuck in my teeth. The ribeye was huge portion as well. But the steak tasted gamey and most of the flavor was only on the surface. I wasn't much of a fan of the entrees. The garlic mash potatoes on the other hand was very good. Very garlicky and flavorful. Since we were celebrating my fiance birthday, they brought out a complimentary baked Alaska and did the whole fire show. That's was nice of them. By that time we were very full. I decided to take my cheesecake home and eat the German chocolate cake there. The chocolate cake was good. Moist and not too sweet. Parking they offer free self parking and free valet parking. Service was good. He checked on us and our water was refilled. But he sorta disappeared near the end of the meal. read more

Service was attentive throughout, and the bacon-wrapped steak was absolutely delicious, tender and full of flavor. The only downside was at the end of the evening, when a different server made us feel a bit rushed just as we were enjoying a nice conversation with friends. Extremely knowledgeable, not only with the cuisine but also with the history of the derby and all its uniqueness . The restaurant is lined with some of the most interesting and fascinating collections of horse racing memorabilia . It's totally beautiful. I had the the bacon wrapped filet mignon with a baked potato , sooo delicious . My wife had the Atlantic salmon with mashed potatoes..... sooo good.... For dessert the cheese cake & German chocolate cake was some of the best I've ever eaten. My first time here. Really liked the old school decor and vibe it has. Was very busy, ended up being a dine LA dinner night. Which might have caused it to be unusually busy. Ordered off the dine LA menu, had a salad, baked potato and the bacon wrapped filet. The salad was good, and you can't really mess up a baked potato with sour cream and chives. The filet was cooked to a nice medium rare. The bacon was undercooked for my liking. Filet over all was decent, could have been seasoned a little more. I ordered a side of creamed spinach which they forgot about. My buddy asked the waitress for bread 2 different times. I guess they are known for garlic bread but i didn't have any so wouldn't know. I finished with a cheese cake which was good. Had it because it was part of the meal through dine LA. Did have a dirty martini, to go along with my meal. Enjoyed that. Overall the service that night was below average for a higher end restaurant. The food was decent. Not sure if I would go back and give it a second chance. read more

Okay, so I have gone three times, but only to the Lounge for Happy Hour with my son. Twice were a couple of years ago, and once was tonight, so I will discuss all three overall. First off, this is considered a landmark in the SGV and one of if not the top steakhouse. I wouldn't be able to tell you about that, because as I said, I've only popped in for a HH bite and drink and not a proper sit down, dress up dinner. The first two times I came in 2021 and 2022, I got there a little before they opened for dinner/HH and there was no valet, so I just self-parked in the lot in back. When you come, you can get free valet (plus tip) or you can self-park (no tip needed). I suggest the self-park as it's no farther. Service has always been generally helpful and friendly. I'd have to say rather than any rude attitudes, what I have gotten when they are busy like tonight during near Christmas was a lot of chaos and confusion. The first two times, my son and I had simple cheeseburgers and fries, and I had a couple of martinis. the martinis were great, though they served them in a brass martini cup and put a lien on your card for a lot of money I guess because people steal them??? Anyway, nowadays they come in simple glass martini glasses, and that doesn't happen anymore. The burgers are pricey - then more reasonable and now up to $27/$29 dollars (depending on whether you want bacon), though when a Big Mac is now $6, it shouldn't surprise anyone, thanks to Bidenflation. You get a burger and fries, and they give you a piece of decent if soggy garlic bread each. So, let's talk soggy, and this applies to then and today - the garlic bread could be crispier, but more importantly the fries are the worst! Each time I have asked for them well done, crispy, over do them, I don't care if they're a little burnt, and each time I've received limp, soggy, lifeless, sad steak fries. They super suck! Do not order fries here. The lounge also works on a Lord of the Flies type kill or be killed system. No one keeps tab of who came in first, and there is no waiting list, though it is first come, first served. I walked in, told by the front of house, there were plenty of tables, and found it was full. I asked a waiter with long hair and a black beard if anyone was leaving, and all he would say is he just got there and ask someone else. I talked to a waitress with glasses who told me no one was near leaving, which within 10 minutes turned out to be false. However, during that 10 minutes, 2 more couples came in and started waiting around for a table. When that table opened up, sure enough, it was survival of the fittest. And, luckily everyone else backed off, as I was literally first. I was handed menus for regular dinner, and a new menu I hadn't seen before that looked more like a lunch menu than the old happy hour menu. I was told all drinks and starters were 1/2 off for HH. I confirmed this with busy boy who handed us the menus and the waitress with the glasses who took care of us all evening. When it came time for ordering, somehow the onion soup was not half off, despite being on the starter menu. So, I got the shrimp cocktail, which is very good for HH 1/2 price of $11. We also got the steak chimichurri sandwich, which was tasty, but the meat was at times chewy or hard to bit through. Not a sign of top quality meat. Not horrible; just okay. We also had the chicken sandwich, which was atrocious. It's like a slightly bigger McDonald's McChicken but has zero flavor whatsoever. It's like not even got salt. It tastes like air on two slices of air. It was the most bland item I've ever eaten. Avoid! The burgers in the past have been good but not mind blowing. Not worth $27, but okay. Already mentioned the fries are disgusting. Which brings me to tonight's bizarre end . I confirmed no less than 6 times with 2 employees about specialty drinks (like the Iceman Martini) being half off. That means they would be 1/2 of $16 or $8/each. The bill had them at $12 each. When I told the waitress, she got the menu she gave me and said it says they are not 1/2 off and $12, but then she couldn't find it. So she got her young bearded manager. He suddenly produced the old HH menu. Mind you, because the new bar menu was different, I had asked before ordering if this was in fact the HH menu and was assured by the bus boy and waitress it was. The old HH menu says the drink is $12, but I never saw that menu this time. Even after arguing and the waitress confirming to him that she had told me the drink would be half the price listed on the menu I was given, he said he would take off the $8 but had a "but" in his statement. Basically he was saying his waitress screwed up, "but" he would take it off my bill. That implies I did something wrong. Otherwise just say our waitress made a mistake, and I will happily take the mistake off your bill. Don't be so argumentative with me that I will never return. Avoid this place! read more

Service was excellent and attentive. Our waitress explained potatoes Romanoff ingredients as well as the cocktails. The food was top notch. We chose the 3 course special, with me getting the bacon wrapped filet, and my husband getting the prime rib. Both steaks were cooked to perfection and were tender and flavorful. I upgraded my salad to a wedge with bacon and blue cheese which was delicious and my husband had the French onion soup which hit the spot and was very cheesy. The Potatoes Romanoff was very rich and cheesy. I was given a complimentary baked Alaska which was dramatically flamed table side.... In addition, we had the trio offerings of bread pudding and German Chocolate Cake, which were delicious. Anything we were unable to finish was boxed up. The mixed drink selection was classic.
