    Grilled Seafood Sampler

Another reason I like Yelp. Traveling and looking for seafood. Shrimp House popped up. Place has been here I understand for over 40 years, with many of the employees here for 20 or more. It's not fancy (it's like a diner), but it's welcoming and comfortable. I like this kind of friendly, neighborhood-vibe, place. I ordered the Grilled Seafood Sampler with "light seasoning", plain baked potato and veggies. My partner got the Manhattan Chowder and the Surf and Turf (with grilled shrimp and sirloin), baked potato and veggies. Manhattan Clam Chowder - broth was a bit more thick than I'm used to, which I wasn't happy about, but there was a very peppery flavor which my partner and I both enjoyed. I wouldn't get it again because of the thickness of the broth, which I'm assuming was flour or some other thickener. (One reason I prefer Manhattan over Boston chowder is that the Boston uses cream, so it's rich and thick. I prefer the tomato-broth texture and flavor). The Grilled seafood sampler was very good. A nice piece of white fish and a skewer of shrimp and one of scallops. The skewers also had onion and green pepper, which enhanced the flavor. The veggies were well prepared and a good portion. The potato was good too. They did lighten the seasoning on my meal as I requested, which I appreciate. My partner liked the steak and shrimp and their sides also. The staff were friendly and attentive with water glasses and checking in from time to time. The place has a nice menu and the specials sound good. Although not a fancy place, a very solid place for seafood and other things.

I have driven past this place thousands of times, and I finally had a dying craving for a cup of white chowder so I thought this is finally the time. Picked up a cup during work lunch, it was velvety, thick, and had the perfect amount of veg and clams!! Definitely got the craving satisfied. Would definitely come back for more!

Wonderful service and good food. I didn't know what to expect coming in but I was pleasantly surprised! Everything was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and delicious. The staff are so friendly and make it a super comfortable experience, as if you were having dinner at a friend's house. Ample parking in a large lot.

Stopped in for the first time for lunch with a friend and sure am glad we did. This place is a classic example of a east coast fish shop. They do it all , fried , grilled , steaks , chicken But we got the classic Chowder , they have both white and red ( New England ) I had a sample plate of fried fish , shrimp, scallops with two sides rice and coleslaw. My friend had the same but grilled. Delicious food with excellent service. It was very busy for a Friday lunch so we sat at the counter and glad we did. The ladies working are extremely friendly and make the whole experience at the Shrimp House that much more enjoyable. Lots of parking and plenty of seating but things are made to order so it does take time to make good food. Wonderful place for lunch and dinner

I have been here in a while, which is unusual because we love this place, especially my oldest son. Today three of us shared two plates and we left really full. We ordered Pirates combo and Ship combo. I loved their clam chowder and enjoyed our salad. The Ship combo included two sides and we got fries and veggies. We split some shrimp, fish and scallops and everything was very good. The service was great and our tea's and coffees were constantly filled. Great to see that this place has been around for such a long time.

I love this place for a dinner vintage Americana experience. Decorated with pub and sea captain memorabilia it's a fun place to go. Service is beyond exceptional wait staff is ultra polite and accommodating. Food will not upset your stomach and is substantial diner food . Check out their daily specials get a great lunch and ask for the hot mustard to mix with the cocktail sauce . Casual vibes and my mother loves the music they play here .

Arrived and was greeted right away, was busy for dinner came in around 7pm. Ordered the merchants galley combo. Came with a decently large fish filet and 3 large shrimp and two sides. Restaurant was decorated nicely with a bunch of nautical artwork. A quick inexpensive meal. Very reasonable prices

I ordered two lunch specials for takeout and was told I couldn't get a clam chowder as a side. I ended up buying a small clam chowder, but it was the exact same size as the side portions which didn't make sense. The bigger issue was the customer service when my friends picked up the order and employee was rude and made a sarcastic comment loud enough for everyone to hear. it was unprofessional and unnecessary. My friend had just finished a 12 hour Caregiver shift and didn't deserve to be treated that way. I hope management addresses this and reminds employees to treat customers with respect. The food is awesome!

This is one of the only seafood spots around. It has been there for at least 4 decades. Staff is always friendly. Vibe is old school seafood. I really enjoy the clam chowder and the batter is cracker meal base which I love. Great lunch or dinner stop to change things up. Worth dropping in if you are in the area.

We all had a great time, with family all 9 of us for lunch. Service was amazing we love having shrimp and fish from here. Our server was so great and kind too. But that's how she always is here. Not busy here but we're there when they opened. A few large tables. And always very clean even the bathrooms. Very blue oceans murals painted on the walls has been there since this is second location bigger than the original one back in the day. I always get the jumbo shrimp But I got lunch special 5 lg. shrimp Fries onions rings..yum and coleslaw I love the hot mustard, an cocktail sauce We had apps onion rings baskets and fries ribeye steak, tender Steak sandwich good 3 Fish sandwiches good 3 fish taco plates good Fish taco looked really good they enjoy them Sorry I don't take pictures having to much fun. Everyone beers were cold and wine too Ice teas. We'll be back again until next time.

I've been eating at this restaurant for seems like over 40 years. Starting with the one in Pomona/Claremont then the one in Fontana and now Arcadia. The amazing staff always makes you feel welcome I absolutely love that about the Ladies up front I'm sorry. I didn't get there names. I will and come back and update this review. I had the Lunch Seafood Combination with Fries and a Side Salad and it was just as good as I remembered it! The food was cooked perfectly. It is a drive for me but I try to get out there when I can. The restaurant is clean and waitresses are very attentive which I was really appreciative of not to mention they are really funny! They made me laugh so much during my time there. This was my mom's choice every time she wanted to eat fish My mom passed away in 1986 so that says how long I've been eating at Shrimp House. Keep up the great work and the amazing food. Please hang in there! When you make amazing food like you do, people will come!

    Bone in Spicy Chicken Wings

Parking in the back. Greeted and seated right away. Everything on the menu looked so good! We ordered 2 plates of Pirates treasure with a choice of onion rings or fries and a side of manhattan chowder or white clam chowder. Manhattan has a of chile flavor to it. Our daughter ordered bone in spicy wings. Everything came out hot! That's how we like our food! However, in the end the food was just okay. My daughter ended up trashing 4/6 wings. She stated it tasted like it came from the freezer. Our fish also felt it came from frozen food. Didn't have any flavor. The breading wasn't stuck to the fish as well. The fried shrimp seems fresh and both chowders were good. The waitress was attentive and helpful. Overall, I would come back and try other items on their menu.

Full menu not cutoff like the others

The bad: The prime rib was both overcooked and undercooked. It seemed like my portion was sliced off the original roast then cooked in a broiler. When it came out, the outer layer was cooked medium well. However, cutting into the meat revealed that it was still raw on the inside. I asked for medium rare, and I can recognize medium rare, but the meat inside was a dark red. That's raw or rare at best. I flagged down the waiter to send it back and he was very nice about it. The meat came back with the same problem. Outer layer was again cooked medium well since the meat was all light brown color, no pink at all. Cutting into it revealed a dark red meat inside. I took a few more bites but didn't want to send it back again. The chef was off that night and I didn't want to be a difficult customer. I would recommend something else on the menu, stay away from the prime rib.

There are 2 other North Woods Inn locations (Covina and La Mirada), one Steak 'N Stein (Pico Rivera) and one Clearman's Galley, also here in San Gabriel, aka "The Boat" for its signature red boat exterior. There used to be a Steak 'N Stein in San Gabriel as well, but now it's just a larger North Woods. The Galley has relocated and been enlarged a few feet south of its original spot; it's now akin to a sports bar, but kids are welcome. Both restaurants are on Rosemead just south of Huntington. A a child I was entranced by North Woods Inn's signature snow-topped roof. The exterior and interior are styled as a winter mountain log cabin hunting lodge. The interior is filled with lodge tchotchkes like taxidermied bears, mounted elk heads, stained glass windows of wintry scenes. The floor is strewn with sawdust and peanut shells you are encouraged to throw there. The dining room is on the dark side and has a full bar. There are several large banquet rooms beyond the restrooms. We came for the DineLA lunch. Note the restaurant has 2 entrances, the host stand is located inside the north entrance; look for the snow-topped entry arch and the Christmas pine trees on the doors. The main menu sits on each table on an easel. Every table gets a bowl of peanuts. The DineLA menu has 3 courses, all with options, at both lunch and dinner, with fancier options on the pricier dinner menu. Any beverages are extra. Here's what we ordered: 1) Beer-battered zucchini sticks. Ordered a la carte. Decent zucchini, but a smallish portion. The blue cheese dressing served alongside did not have strong blue cheese flavour. 2) Starter. Options were salads (house and red cabbage) or soup, plus cheese bread. The cabbage salad had a decent vinaigrette, the house salad's house dressing was rather bland, ranch-like I suppose. The clam chowder was okay, more potatoes than clams. There was another soup option I don't recall. The cheese bread was very good. 3) Entree. Options were petite steak and shrimp, petite filet mignon or jumbo coconut shrimp. We had the first two. The petite steak was a top sirloin, decently grilled with properly hatched grill marks. The 3 shrimp were supposedly grilled, served with drawn butter and lemon. The petite filet was indeed petite. We both opted for the baked potato side, with cheese butter. Large and pretty tasty. Other carb options were rice pilaf or steak fries. 4) Dessert. Key Lime Pie Tart or Chocolate Mousse Cake. The tart came wrapped in paper like a muffin, nicely tart with a bit of an aftertaste. Service was nice and attentive. Overall a decent meal, good value with DineLA. I'd call this a mid-level steakhouse, probably better than Outback but lesser than The Derby, Fleming's or Ruth's Chris.

The service was friendly, and every staff member we interacted with was genuinely kind and welcoming. As for the food, we started with the artichoke and spinach dip. It was good, but unfortunately, I don't think it was worth the $20+ price tag. The portion and price made it feel more like it should have been an entrée than an appetizer. Unfortunately, my salmon was served raw in the middle. I had to send it back, and by that point, I had completely lost my appetite, which was disappointing. My mom ordered the Asian chicken salad. I started out with the Coughlin's Law cocktail (Aviation gin, house infused vanilla syrup, fresh lemon, egg white, lavender bitters, $16). It was a good light drink with light vanilla and lemon flavor. I always love a good foam top too. She started out with a Basil Paloma (Herradura silver tequila, muddled basil & grapefruit, fresh grapefruit juice, lime, simple syrup, seltzer, $15). It had good grapefruit and basil flavor, and was nicely balanced. We ordered the buffalo cauliflower appetizer ($14). The cauliflower was supposed to be grilled, but it seemed almost raw. The buffalo sauce definitely had a good kick. For my entrée, I had the Black Angus Basin Burger (manchego cheese, carmelized onions, arugula, special sauce, brioche bun, $19). The burger was excellent. The cheese, carmelized onions, and arugula was a great flavor combo. The fries were good, but I'd order them more crispy next time. She had the two taco plate with fish and potato tacos ($15). The taco shells were freshly fried, and it was a filling plate that she enjoyed. It was very balanced, and not boozy at all with a very light sweetness. Her second was the Smoke and Fire (Peloton de la Muerte mezcal, Ancho Reyes liqueur, muddled jalapeno & orange, fresh lime, agave, chili salt, $15). It was pretty well balanced with a medium smokiness. It definitely had a kick of heat on the finish. Our server Lakyn was friendly and provided good service. The menu prices are cash prices. There is an extra 3.5% surcharge if you pay with a credit card. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer was mostly a miss, but everything else was very good so I'm rounding up to five stars. They have a very good sized cocktail and food menu, as well as many beers on tap. They also have happy hour specials. We would definitely return if we were in the area again.

Breakfast burrito was delicious. Ordered it without the beans but so good with that spicy ranch sauce.
