For being a Texas bbq joint, I was greatly disappointed. The pork ribs were a bit chewy and tasted as if they've been sitting waiting to get served. The beef ribs were awful, highly don't recommend them. The best thing on the plate was the turkey and home made bread. Not often am I both disappointed by the food and made uncomfortable by the staff at one place. Here I got both. The brisket, the yardstick of Texas Barbecue, was dry. The smoke ring, if you want to call it that, was a lurid and unnatural color. It was bereft of any flavor beyond a weird chemical taste. The sausage tasted store bought, the turkey was dry but had the benefit of being the most flavorful thing on the plate. As far as the sides, the beans were dry (a theme?) and overly, unseemly sweet. The potato salad didn't even taste of potatoes. Not sure how you even achieve that. Well so as far as the service, it was slow, I saw my waiter cough directly into their hand and then serve food with it. The manager, I guess, came over, asked how we were, rapid fire insulted our choice of food, and ran off before we even knew what was what. Truly bizarre experience. I cannot believe that this was my first time eating at this place! I just want to kick myself for missing out on this delicious food and breathtaking view of Austin's beautiful Hill Country. When you walk into this place it feels like you have stepped into the past because the decor looks old. I mean that in the best way possible. I love the ambiance. In every corner you have great photo ops! It smells so good as soon as you walk in. You're greeted by the friendliest hostesses and when we arrived we were told it was a 30 minute wait to be seated. I walked around and snapped a lot of photos and the place was pretty empty so we ended up getting an awesome seat after waiting about 10 minutes. Did I say the view is breathtaking! OMG! I feel so blessed to have so much beautiful nature around. This place has plenty of free parking, they are great for families, pets welcome on the outside patio and service was great! I believe our servers name was Christine and she was awesome! Her timing was impeccable. Mike the manager was fantastic!! He was greeting people and even help clear tables. I got a chance to talk to him about the restaurant and you can tell he loves his job. Now to the food. We had a big lunch so my husband wasn't that hungry he ordered the pecan pie and ice cream. Listen if you go here you have to have the pecan pie it will change your life!!! My husband was trying to get them to sell him a whole pie. Seriously that was probably one of the best pecan pies I have ever tasted. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The spud was really good but the BBQ sauce was a little too watery for my liking. I like the sauce to be slightly thicker. The food was actually terrible. The worst barbecue I've ever had. This place was talked up for the view. There was a deck for said view. A fence blocked the view. So I'm not sure what the hype was for. We had an event hosted here. So we were given plates of meat. Coleslaw and potato salad were offered as sides. The brisket was dry. The chicken was unseasoned and dry. They pulled pork just wasn't good. The potato salad was horrible. It had chunks of pickles in it and an overwhelming taste of pickle juice. That was honestly disrespectful. We ordered as a side Mac and cheese and a baked potato. The Mac and cheese was def made with a powder mix. And wasn't mixed in well enough cause it still had some powdery grit to it. The baked potato was astounding as it's just a naked baked potato that had all the toppings on the side and I could build it myself. Now the best part in the bathroom they have some weird cowboy tapes playing on repeat. It consists of a woman saying "man". Friends, comrades, amigos, what is going on at The County Line? Service was great and the restaurant cozy with a great view... so why 2 stars? THE FOOD. I don't get it, why is it so bad? My beef ribs were old, it felt like they were sitting in the fridge a few days and got reheated. My husbands brisket was so salty and also appeared to not be very fresh. My daughters had ribs and their food was ok. I'm not expecting Terry Blacks but it should be enjoyable at least. It makes me sad because this location and their location by the river offer a scenic view while dining but if you can't enjoy your food is it really worth it? read more

This location is my favorite The County Line location. The river is nice and tranquil. You can feed the turtles if you'd like. We visited for my birthday and enjoyed our late lunch. I ordered brisket and sausage. The sides are wonderful too, bean, potato salad and coleslaw. The margarita was nice too. Perfect way to celebrate a special day! Man, I've got to be honest with this review. This is some of the absolute worst BBQ I have ever had in my entire life. Does anyone taste the food before adding it to the menu? The mac and cheese, no flavor whatsoever. N-O-N-E! How does that even happen? Coleslaw, chunky pieces of slaw that were way too big and also completely tasteless. The sausage, not that great. Just meh. The pulled pork, something was seriously off with it. It tasted a little sour and rancid. You know how pork gets when it's going off? It has that way too porkish kind of taste? Yep, I'll pay for that later in my review. We also tried the Mexican deviled eggs and they were super thick and flavorless as well. Queso was decent. I liked the atmosphere and our server was absolutely wonderful. That's the only positive I have about my experience. We weren't even completely out of the parking lot when my stomach started to turn. Couldn't even make it home without a bathroom emergency stop. Some people must like it because there were a lot of people there during lunch time. I can see this place being for elderly folks as my grandfather would have loved it. Edit: it is now 3:38am and this is the second time I have been pulled out of my sleep to do the deed. I've been here twice now and its probably one of my favorite spots in the area to grab some drinks for happy hour and take in those views! The outdoor seating options are great. Some tables are covered, and some uncovered. Then there's also a variation of seating like picnic table style vs table and chairs. Anywhere you sit, you'll get a good view. The food is average in my opinion. I've only ever come here for bbq and it's never wowed me but it's good. There's a large parking lot outside County Line so parking has never been a problem when I've visited. read more

Absolutely loved this place Went there on a Saturday evening with my wife. I have eaten at their location on the lake before but this is the first time I've been to the one on the hill. I am a big fan of pulled pork which is not as easy to find in Texas as the beef brisket or the barbecue sausage. The pulled pork was lean and tender with just the right amount of wood smoked flavor. I had it as a sandwich on a nice thick homemade sandwich roll, lettuce (which I've never had on a barbecue sandwich before). tomato, pickle and onion. It came with a portion of cole slaw in case you wanted to add it to the sandwich, a heap of fires - the thin skinny kind, and a bowl of pintos. It was both delicious and filling. The fries were mediocre, but the sandwich and pinto beans more than made up for it. There were ample portions and I couldn't have eaten another bite. My wife got the two meat plate, turkey and brisket. She said they were very good, moist and tender as well. Hers came with two sides. The server was ver attentive and checked on us 3 or 4 times during our meal (we were there at 5:30 pm and not many guests had arrived yet). My phone indicated they had guest wi-fi, but you needed a password to long on and I didn't ask because it wasn't an issue for me. Mine was $14 and hers was $15. They also sell homemade loaves of bread if you're interested but they come with complimentary bread as well. read more

Man, this place looks SO cool, the view on the patio is to die for, the wait staff are excellent, the food was quick- it just tasted bad. Out of the 3 of us that went, 2 of us couldn't even try to finish either the meat or the sides. The potato salad tasted weird and salty. The meat had too much fat for me. But the third person in our party LOVED it. So I would definitely recommend giving it a try. The blackberry pie was phenomenal! We enjoyed the view and the service was friendly. However, the food was extremely chewy, bland, and not very appetizing. We ordered the 3 meat plate with chicken, pulled pork, and chopped beef and shared it with the sides of coleslaw and Mac and cheese. The kids had pork ribs and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was not flavorful and the coleslaw looked more like a salad. On a positive note we did like the fresh bread and honey butter. We will not be back. read more

Better have plenty of time for lunch if you decide on County Line. This was the slowest service I can remember, and the place was nowhere near busy for a Saturday lunch. We came in for my in-laws 50th anniversary, and we waited for everything so long I was afraid I would hit my own 50th anniversary. I really don't blame the server, who was friendly, just slow and seemingly poorly trained. I blame the management for not making sure wait staff knows what they are doing, and more importantly for (apparently) not being on the floor to check on their customers. Our server took forever and forgot multiple items. Tables around us were also sitting and waiting. If you're wondering about the food, it's below average barbecue and sides. Unimpressive brisket and sausage, with forgettable cole slaw and ok beans. In a town with great barbecue I don't know why you'd come to County Line, except to maybe take in a great view. If you don't pay extra for the homemade bread (worth it! says the menu) then you get bread that would never be served by another restaurant. I took a photo of the sign by the drive. "Always hiring" it said. Maybe high turnover accounts for untrained wait staff, but there's no excuse for the super slow service to go with meh barbecue. read more

Have always enjoyed county line. The wings are the best thing on the menu. I drove almost an hour just to get the wings they're that good. I do strongly feel like the BBQ has gone down hill, it's been a while since I had been to county line I always get the turkey too, but not sure if they changed the recipe but it was not the same as a few years ago. Almost no seasoning and extremely dry. Girlfriend had Mac n cheese and pulled pork. If you work in the restaurant industry you would know immediately that both are cooked in a bag. You can taste it, pork tasted like it was heated up in a bag in the microwave, Mac n cheese is obviously a product of resers I'm sure. And then our server..... I had my 7 month old baby at the table with me and he was sleeping, and yes that's obviously my problem and issue and obviously not the responsibility of the server not to wake him up but come on.. the server was obnoxiously loud to begin with, and then when the food came she slammed the plates down on the table and was being obnoxiously loud. There was maybe 6 tables in the restaurant and it was quiet. Would have thought that the server would have been aware and respectful of the sleeping baby and try not to wake him up but as soon as she slammed the plates down he woke up. we didn't even get to eat because the kiddo woke up we asked for boxes and left and ate it at home. Went there just to eat some good wings and chill out for a minute while the baby was napping. I just personally thought it was super disrespectful, and somewhat intentional. read more

I have been coming here since college days in the 80s. Every, yes every, dining experience has been great. Their BBQ is top notch--especially the ribs. And sides a bit more creative than usual at a BBQ place. A nice change of pace. Location on the hill is wonderful with view and overall atmosphere (been to the lake location and while food is as great, the view can't match the hill). Staff always friendly. Recently we planned a family private dinner but had to cancel because of the pandemic. They completely understood, refunded deposit, and were courteous. We will return for dinner and eventually reschedule our family party. It's so nice that this place has 'aged' well while retaining excellent food, atmosphere, and staff. read more

We made a reservation for 9 people here last Friday. All of us were from out of town so we didn't really know what to expect. We just picked a BBQ place that had good reviews and looked like it had a nice indoor seating area. (Seems like a lot of Austin food is just food trucks with benches outside lol) We really enjoyed our time here. The food, the service, the ambiance was all great. The staff all really works well with each other, too, and it really makes it an enjoyable experience. We started off with a loaf of the homemade bread which was really good. I had the brisket which I thought was great also. Everyone else seemed to like their food a lot. Honestly one of the better parts of our trip. It was nice to eat and then relax with family a while here. The perfect setting for what we were looking for. A nice comfortable restaurant for a family dinner. Thanks again to the County Line. I liked the bread, the potato salad, the coleslaw, and the service. Meat wasn't very good, would prefer almost any other BBQ place. To be honest just go to Rudy's Let's start with the positives! The bread is very unique and seems to be made in house. It's sliced very thick and had a nice chew and subtle sweetness. It goes really well with their honey spread - make sure to eat it warm. The potato salad has a lot of celery in it - not for everyone but I was into it. Coleslaw was also good. The vegetables are chopped rather than shredded, and the taste was solid. We ordered beef ribs, pork ribs, sausage, and lean brisket. It came all piled up on a single large plate (as you can see in my picture), which made it hard to get at the stuff underneath. Would've been nice to serve it on 2 plates. Both types of ribs weren't very seasoned or flavorful, just a general meat and oil taste. Also, the meat wasn't tender and required a lot of effort to eat, and the beef especially had a lot of cartilage and fat. The sausage was pretty standard, nothing bad but nothing special. Lastly, the lean brisket was quite dry and tough. It was cut thinly and didn't have much taste. The brisket, ribs, chicken and sausage were all tender and had good flavor. Earth-shattering? No. But good enough to eat without sauce ... particularly folded within a slice of the wonderful yeasty bread slices that appeared at our table. The sides here are also good. Beans are lightly seasoned, which I happen to like (because it allows me to douse it with hot sauce without messing up the flavor profile); potato salad was well-prepared but almost dry. Not bad. BBQ done right! We used to have one of these in Oklahoma City and it was my favorite BBQ joint. Recently I was in Austin and I had to stop by for some of my favorite BBQ. This place did not disappoint! The ribs are thick and juicy, the Cole slaw is wonderful and creamy and the fries were cooked to perfection! What makes this place extra special is their homemade hot bread with honey butter!! Oh man!!! So so good! This place has an amazing view of the city of Austin as well with a wonderful patio.
