I like their products but their customer service is horrible (repeatedly), for example: I called today with a question (free shipping at $99, my items are on sale, ending in couple days): "I have a question, my order is $200 but due to your availability it is forcing me to pick up the $165 item and now I have to pay for shipping for my $35 item, is there a way I can get free shipping on my smaller item since my order total is $200?" I visit this store several times per month, or at least I did. Every time I go there, no matter what time of the day or week, despite having 9 cashier locations, they never have more than two registers open! Tonight there were 15 customers on line and there were two registers open! To compound the waiting it seems like everyone working a register has a need to chat with each customer. The photo shows some of the line. When I asked, the cashier had no answer. It boggles my mind that a store that specializes in wrapping and shipping supplies has no extra help at Christmas time. Well another holiday season and more horrible customer service by these knuckle heads! I went here to purchase a gift card box, yes A (as in one!) gift card box and was greeted by a line of 8 customers standing in front of me waiting. Despite having 9 cashier stations, there were only 2 open. When we asked if they could get some help, we were told "we asked 20 minutes ago", to no avail. I can't figure out how this disaster of a store stays open with such clueless manage Another trip to this nut house and another level of stupidity! There are at least 65 customers on line and and only 3 cashiers at the 9 possible cash registers! I asked if they realized there were 65 people waiting and was told "We are trying to get some help"! I love organizing things; bins, drawers, labels, color-coding - I love it all. If I ever pursued a second career I would seriously consider becoming a professional organizer (yes, they actually exist). Needless to say, I love The Container Store. This CS in White Plains was the first taste that I got of the chain. Back in the day they had this special event night for kids going off to college and I took part in it, grabbing all the goods to make it in that dorm life. I didn't really think much of TCS until years later when a newer one opened in Yonkers. While both CSs get my organization senses tingling and have large selections, I prefer the one in Yonkers simply because I feel the layout is better. However, you need to pay for parking in Yonkers since it's in Ridge Hill, so I guess it's 6 of one, half-dozen of the other. I may have hot mess moments in my life, but at least I can look on point all the time thanks to The Container Store (wanna hire me as a spokesman? ;-). I'm definitely grateful for TCS - I can always find at least one thing to pick up while I'm there. read more

Store is perpetually understaffed relative to sales volume (was an issue pre COVID and still a problem). Average wait to checkout is over 15 minutes even on a weekday afternoon. Their online operations are even worse, expect to wait 2+ weeks for your order. National chains have had months to adapt staffing and planning to restore service levels. When I've contacted customer care they don't seem to understand why a 2 week delay isn't ok. For the prices they charge, customers deserve CS a better experience. read more

I love this store. I want to BE in love with this store. They have GREAT stuff to buy here. The prices are a tad on the high side but that is not a grip so much as an observation. Many of the items they sell are fairly unique and while you might be able to get some of them from Amazon, you can see and feel them here and people have good jobs and brick and mortar stores are important to support. But, and here's the but, most of the time there is a long line to check out and it never seems like there are enough cashiers. When 12 people are waiting on line, do you really need four or five people who work there, marching around the store? So the original order shows up in 4 giant boxes over 8 days. No only will they not send me a shipping label, I have to drive these boxes out of state, 51 miles and place them back in their store for my refund. Next time i only buy assembled off the floor or go to Home Goods, or TJMaxx or Marshalls. IKEA has a service that'll assemble for a fee, but youll get none of those options at the Container Store. I pulled a rolling trunk off of a shelf and it was filthy and looked like it had been used and when I showed the person in that aisle how dirty it was and asked for a better one, he just shrugged a said, "whatever we have is out" and when I said "you sell merchandise in this condition?" He answered, "it has nothing to do with me." So I found another person who immediately helped me find another one. I spent a good amount of time in there, looking for some bits and bobs to help organize my stuff. After striking out at our local Container Store, we decided to make the trek to Westchester to take advantage of this 30% off closet design sale. (This location isn't as crowded as the Paramus store, but it's also open on Sundays, so I guess the crowd can spread out a bit lol.) There was a decent wait for a design consultation with Elfa, but we put our names in & went across the street to the mall to eat while we waited for our text. And after the hour or so? It was definitely worth the wait! We came prepared with a very detailed and accurate measurement of our closet, and our design consultant Ellen was able to mock it up in the design software to help us visualize what would be the best use of our space. Ellen helped us maximize the use of our oddly-shaped walk-in master closet. She patiently guided us through the process of customizing our shelves & hanging storage until we were happy with the result. And considering the 45-minute drive up to Westchester, I'd do it again for the great service! Thanks Ellen. I can't wait to start using my brand new closet. read more

This place is my crack. I spend what little money I have there to help organize my life. I used to buy boxes from home depot to put stuffed animals in and such but they frequently cracked so I got some more expensive ones from here that have lasted me ages. The first time I ever went here was to get a rolling cart for groceries and thats lasted my family over 7 years with only one fixable break when I loaded it with textbooks. He immediately made a sharp right turn into the parking lot and we pranced inside. It's an OCO's heaven in there! The store itself is organized to a T. If someone wrote me a check for a grand, I'd spend a lot of it at the Container Store, I can tell you that much. From packing boxes to stationary organizers and kitchen organizers to toy boxes, you can find every type of organizer here! I've gotten two elfa closet systems installed here, both designed by Joe. This guy is amazing and really knows how to design a closet system that works. I came in with a few ideas and wanted to put the shoes on the ground, Joe mentioned that it would be pretty inconvenient especially while holding our child, suggested we put it on top; this makes all the difference in our day to day lives. Joe even called and followed up to make sure the install went okay the following day, great customer service, and all around genuine person. The delivery person dropped over a hundred items i ordered next to my house and refused to bring anything inside the house. Mumbled something about snow and being late to other deliveries. We did actually come here for a reason, and were able to find what we were looking for: three lovely gray stacking recycling bins to replace the college-esque milk cartons we'd been using for years. I also found mini-funnels that I had been looking for forever, and an over the door shoe organizer (selected one from among at least 3 or 4 choices). We've been going to Container Store a lot the last few weeks due to a household reorganization project. Great store. Well laid out. Great customer service. Nice assortment of things, in a range of prices (tho to be honest, it is pricier than going to other Big Box type stores for similar items). One super great option they have is you can place your order online, and pick it up. You just call ahead a few minutes, and they get your order staged, and you call once you arrive, and they bring your order out to your vehicle and pack it into your vehicle. Everyone we've dealt with at the White Plains store has been professional and helpful. I really like the White Plains location of the container store. The layout just seems larger and simpler to find items than other container stores I've been to. The parking is also very convenient. It's a spacious lot with free parking. The container store is one of those stores that I always go into and leave with more items than I originally expected to buy. They literally have every organizational item you could ever need for your home! I've bought plastic boot storage boxes that stack easily in my closet and are clear so I can see what I have without having to open every box. I've also gotten storage organization for my dresser drawers and for my kitchen. I especially love buying glass storage containers for food items since I avoid food storage in plastic.
