I have worked with Calico Corners Mamaroneck for many years and bought drapes , recovered sofas etc. I was v happy with their service until recently I went in November to recover a chair. I still do not have my chair back. I bought the fabric and they said they were picking my chair in 2 weeks. They took 6 weeks and I had to call and call and call again They told me they were taking 2 weeks to re cover my chair.... they still have my chair. I spoke with Carolyn yesterday afternoon who reassured me they were delivering my chair this afternoon between 5 to 6pm. As you can imagine is 6:40pm and I'm still waiting. Not a good experience! At first glance the 2 ladies appeared friendly and welcoming.. which lured me into a false sense of security. I declared I was a novice to the field of interior decoration and fabric. I was ignored. They used jargon, (as a scientist I frequently encounter people who are nervous about tech.. the last thing you want to do is dazzle them with acronyms). The most interesting thing however was that they disparaged products I already had .. didnt we throw out that sales technique in the 80's? In March dropped off 6 chairs to get reupholstered, paid ALOT of money in advance, it is now September- we received ONE chair that isn't ours with the wrong upholstery in August. No word on the other chairs, hardly any contact by the store. Next steps for us may have to be small claims court. read more

This is a beautiful store was a wonderful staff! I walked in not knowing what I wanted to do with redecorating my home. I was greeted by a friendly, patient and knowledgeable staff. They were not pushy and explained the different patterns and materials to me in great detail. How wonderful and refreshing it is to find people who actually care about their job and their customers. We had an initial virtual appointment where she showed me a variety of fabrics in my price range and when I went in person the fabric was even more beautiful-no need to think about it, purchased right away. Now I remember why I've only been to this place twice in 20 yrs even though I live nearby. I walked in with two attendants and with me being the only person in the store. No greeting, acknowledgment, or assistance of any kind for the whole 15 mins I was there. I came and left without a single word. I wonder if they ever even wanted customers to begin with. Today I'm writing on behalf of my mother. SHORT VERSION ~ After our most recent experience Calico (formerly know as "Calico Corners") has problems stemming from corporate down to their branch sales staff. In my opinion it reflects poor employee training, lack of morale, dismal customer relations, lack of followthrough, and less than satisfactory product results. A company can't spruce up it's image simply by changing it's name. It needs to have internal changes from top to bottom. And this new Calico does not. Having shopped the store in Mamaroneck a few times before I found the service erratic, depending on who was on the floor. Sometimes there was an offer to help, and other times no one would even look up from the counter. I'm a pretty independent shopper so it didn't necessarily bother me, but please don't mess with my mom. AND THE LONG ~ My mother, at the sprightly age of 91, decided to refresh a slipcovered chair. This time she wanted it to be upholstered with a reinforced seat and tighter webbing so one wouldn't sink so low when seated. She had ordered roman shades years ago from here without a problem and liking their fabric she decided to have them handle her new project. I accompanied her, we found some fabric, and we had a nice saleswoman work out the order. My mother, an artist, also supplied Calico with a sketch of how the chair looked complete with measurements in order to get an estimate beforehand. A deposit was given on her credit card with the balance to be paid upon delivery. Weeks later they delivered the chair. She noticed the arms were not right. The upholsterer had taken it upon himself to get a bit fancy with the padding and gave her rounded arms rather than the simple straight lines she had thought were there and she had sketched. The seat cushion had a curve in the front rather than being a straight line. It was hard when you sat down. The webbing had not been tightened and there was glue on the wooden legs and a pull on the seat's fabric. She almost believed it was the wrong chair that had been delivered to her. Mom called the store to tell them of the mistakes. She also noticed that her credit card had been charged the remaining balance. And here's when the saga began. The saleswoman we originally dealt with (not a full time employee) handed it over to her manager, Karen. Rather than acting as a professional manager of the store and attending to the problem, Karen would never answer mom's calls. Or she would tell mom she was looking into it with no followup. Days would go by without a word. Mom would call again, be told Karen was not in, would leave messages that were never answered. Finally mom pinpointed Karen to a date to come by her apartment to see the chair. Karen showed up and to mom's surprise (and relief) agreed that the work was not neat, had mistakes, not comfortable and that she would contact the upholsterer. Days went by again and no word. Mom called Karen. Karen asked incredulously "Didn't he call you? Well, here's his number so you can call him." With that one quick line the manager of Calico basically told her customer to do the work that she should have been handling. But mom called the upholsterer and long story a bit shorter he showed up with an assistant and mom and he had a back and forth. He took the chair back to Calico where he and Karen would have a discussion about it "to evaluate the situation". Days go by with no word from Calico or Karen. Mom calls Karen with more missed messages. Needless to say my mother was stressed out about this whole fiasco. She sometimes would use humor to alleviate her stress saying that she hoped to have her chair back the way she wanted it "before I pass out of this world". I told her with Calico's current track record not to hold her breath. Move forward a few more weeks and still no work and no chair. Finally, 4 (FOUR!) months later she received her chair. The chair was delivered with better workmanship, but with no call from Karen. No call with Karen checking up - no seeing if mom is happy with the result - no offer of an apology - and no "thank you" for her patience. In other words no communication with the client at all. For any customer to have to go through this, let alone one who is 91, is disgraceful. The level of incompetence and unprofessionalism stemming from the management level on down is astounding. They make you feel as though you are the problem. I would never recommend Calico for anything other than fabric. To top it off mom went there to order 2 yards of matching fabric to make her own armchair covers. After all she went through a smart company manager would have offered to make the covers for her at no charge. Or at least supply the fabric, no charge. If I was that customer I would have demanded it. But my mom is a sweetheart and decided not to make waves. I'm not as sweet as she is, so I decided to write this review. read more

Went in for a quote on two chairs and a loveseat while their 25% sale was going on. Called Friday 4/27, sale ended yesterday. I got the call back today but they wouldn't honor quote because dale ended yesterday. BAD business policy indeed. I've done business with them I. Do not waste your time going here. The staff is extremely rude and evidently they do not need new business. Yesterday my daughter and I went to the store, we are in the process of redoing 3 very expensive chairs. We stood by the counter for a good ten minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence and were told all staff busy someone would eventually be with us. Finally a woman took our name and put it on a clipboard, THEN asked what we were interested in. She said to please look around and someone would be with us shortly. Ok, that works. We started looking through fabric samples, etc. and three more people walked in off the street and were IMMEDIATELY helped. We continued to wait and the woman who took our name even said to one of the staff, We have a list going and she just shrugged and said whatever. After a total wait of 30 minutes we left, and when we did NO ONE was even around to notice. I guess they don't need the business and certainly have no sales skills. I have since heard from various friends that the staff is the worst, so I am glad I don't have to deal with them. Can't imagine how they stay in business and really don't care.
