Linda's store has an endless selection of fabrics so it could have been an overwhelming experience. It was not! Linda helped me narrow down my search and after a very short time searching through books of fabrics I found exactly what I was looking for. I purchased the fabric with lining as well as the hardware. We had her staff install the finished product and we are so pleased with the result. Very poor customer service -- disappointing. There were no other customers present in the store and yet the staff member refused to help me. She also seemed to be getting confused easily and telling stories that were irrelevant to our interactions. The combination of fabric selection, prices, and customer service make this the go to store in the area. I live in NYC, but the local company I hired to make and install window treatments didn't have a wide variety of fabrics and my taste is very particular. Linda the owner was extremely helpful in guiding my search through the never ending samples in her store. Her prices are great and I purchased the fabric and trims for 2 sets of drapes and 3 roman shades. That's where I expected my experience with By The Yard to end. Unfortunately, the company I hired did a very poor job constructing the drapes and I had no faith they could fix the issues without ruining the fabric. Linda came to the rescue (and went against industry norms of not working on another seamstresses work) to essentially remake the drapes. They came out perfect! read more

I came to this store because of the great reviews. In looking for a fabric/fabrication vendor I have a small bassinet to create a (simple!) liner for. Before I could finish explaining what I was looking for I was told it would be too complicated for them to complete. I was a little taken aback that she didn't even ask more questions to understand the scope of the project, but a quick 'that's too hard for me' response was all I needed to hear. Had a great selection of materials but I'm not interested in supporting a business who isn't so great in the customer service department. Will not be coming back for any upholstering services. read more
