I was originally excited to see the Catch in Denton as good fried shrimp is one of my all time favorites. My original home town had shrimp stands aplenty. The management in Denton, though, has to get their act in order, particularly regarding the drive-thru. First of all the drive-thru menu states that baskets include Catch Fries and a Hush Puppy. What it doesn't say though is that fries are a "side", at least according to the order takers and I've had at least five over the past month or so. On my first drive-thru purchase when asked for my side selection I said coleslaw, expecting fries and coleslaw. When I arrived home I had coleslaw only. Each purchase is a new experience. Sometimes they'll ask for a sauce selection, sometimes not. Today was a perfect example of the total disarray of the ordering process. Today I ordered a 10 Jumbo Fried Shrimp basket with fries plus a small Coleslaw side. I thought that was very specific. The clerk then asked what size shrimp I wanted and whether I wanted them grilled, blackened or fried. We cleared that up but nothing was mentioned about a drink though I didn't need one. When I arrived at the window I was handed a large coke which I never ordered. Once my order was handed to me I proceeded home to find no coleslaw. It's a shame because the food is delicious. Very disappointed in our first experience. My husband went to pick up some lunch and was planning just to go to drive-thru. That didn't work out due to the vast waiting line so he went inside. The music was blaring and gave him a headache. Needless to say he was not in a good mood when he got back home. I ordered a shrimp and oyster combo but there were no French fries with it as stated on the menu. The taste was ok but really soggy. My husband didn't like it at all. Really overpriced for what you get. Will be very hard to get my husband to go again. read more

We didn't even get a chance to taste the food. After a lengthy wait in the drive through the young lady couldn't get our order right. When she read back gumbo instead of etouffee I simply said we'll come in and order. The staff wasn't friendly or helpful. In my 8 minute wait the only words said to me were, "this register". It seems I went to the wrong register for my to-go order. We wait again. Finally, I asked the young lady standing there if she could take my order and she says, "I have to put in these orders - in order as they come and they were before you. I'll get to you when I'm done with these." Sadly, we left. Not angry...but more disappointed. We'll try again when management either hires more staff or at least friendlier staff. read more

I was really looking forward to their Denton location opening, because we love seafood and haven't been a fan of the seafood places in Denton since moving here. It doesn't hurt that with Covid-19 we' have not eaten in restaurants much this year, but have been doing a lot of delivery. If I were to title my review, it would be "We were NOT disappointed." We ordered and split the Admiral's feast, decided to share some fried green tomatoes, and I tried their gumbo. We both have decent appetites,, but the Admiral's Feast is as large as it sounds. With the included fries, which are pretty good even after being delivered from the other side of Denton, it's really a lot of food. We both enjoyed everything in the Admiral's Feast, but I could eat 3-4 pieces of the white fish and nothing else. That was some of the best fried fish since we lived in the San Francisco peninsula and were 15 minutes from Cook's Seafood. Don't get me wrong, the catfish and oysters were really good too, and the shrimp was big enough to have a really excellent shrimp flavor. If you've eaten a lot of Shrimp, you'll probably know what I mean. The gumbo wasn't the best I've had, but it was good. I definitely wasn't disappointed and will have some the next time I've got a craving; because it will do the trick. Instead of saying that The Catch is now the best seafood in Denton, I would say that they are the ONLY seafood in Denton. Forget the rest, seriously. Do yourself a favor and you'll be hooked like we are! read more

First time at Denton location. Breads done perfectly, fried fish is exceptional, Cajun fries are the best I've ever had, po boy was so authentic I thought I was at Acme Oyster House in NOLA. Sauces taste scratch-made. Even the hush puppies were a whole new level. Manager Lawrence runs a great place, with friendly staff who know how to make great food. read more

We were so excited to try this place but it was not a good experience. The fried food is fairly good but the boil, not so much. The shrimp was cooked too long and it was rubbery, the crab looked like they killed a baby crab for the legs, they didn't have any silverware to crack them with (not even a metal fork). The staff weren't helpful and kind of rude. My son had to go to the bathroom and there was no soap (in the dispenser or the pump). At least they had free alcohol so I could drink my dinner instead... the place is at the old Long John's and honestly I'd rather have Long John's over this and that's saying a lot. read more

I just ordered the "regular" catfish meal from Doordarsh. Unlike the luscious picture of 4 filets in the app, a "regular" is one 1oz filet of catfish. For $9.99. I called to see if an error was made. I went to this location today to try something new and I was highly disappointed with the food. First off, I ordered garlic bread as an appetizer and found a fly cooked into the last piece of bread and notified the server immediately, they then offered to bring out a fresh order but I declined since it took away my appetite. I also thought it to be highly unprofessional of them to not even offer to take it off my bill knowing that there was an insect in my food. I have lived in Denton since July & The Catch gave me my first racist experience. The manager intentionally walked around greeting everyone but me while I waited for my food. When she was FORCED to talk to me (because I had been waiting for 40 minutes) she didn't even greet me. She said, "what's the name on your order".... well HELLO TO YOU TOO!!! I'm very hopeful that this restaurant will become a success in the future. It has some work to do. Especially, considering there is another seafood restaurant down the street. I've tried the restaurant 3 times in a week and 1/2 span. I will say the restaurant food (catfish) is lacking taste. Imagine eating fish with no taste. I decided to have them with cocktail sauce and that doesn't taste quite right either. More of a sour flavor and I've had plenty of cocktail sauce. Next, there needs to be transparency about ordering. I ordered twice and picked up without anyone asking or requesting to prepay. The 3rd time they demanded a card to place a togo order. I decided to just go in person to order and just go through the drive thru. Expect to wait at least 20 mins. You just go ahead and park your car. So I finally get my food and go home. I get home and I notice smaller packaging for the side item...I got an incomplete side. How do I know? Well I've ordered the same thing over those three visits and my side was incomplete. I called to verify and I was correct. Well now I proceed to eat my food and then I notice something else. One fish is missing batter on one side...it got curled it the oil I suppose but someone that packed my order would see that. Anyways, I hope this restaurant can get it together. Stopped by this place when I noticed how busy it was. I figured that it must be good, and it was. We tried the Admiral's Platter which has a little bit of everything (fried fish, shrimp, oysters, and crawfish tails). The fish tasted fresh and was fried perfectly. I always worry about getting oysters and shrimp so far from the coast, but these were excellent. The "catch fried fish" uses a corn meal batter, and the "whitefish" is flour based . They also have catfish, gumbo, and a boudin balls. Yum! We will be back! read more

Had a great meal, between the four of us we tried just about everything. Gave them four stars, only because it took a little bit to get all our order. The manager came over apologized and personally so that we got our order right. For being open only a few days, and packed on a Friday, the manager I think her name is Jessie is doing an incredible job. Give them a bit and this is going to be an easy 5 star+. We will be back. Cold grilled shrimp and cold (not crispy) crawfish tails. Catfish was crispy and hot...was probably added last since everything else was cold. Beans and rice were okay. Lots of employee noses below masks. We will give them one more chance but on a cold, rainy Saturday, we wished we had gone to Frilly's which is very consistent. The lady at the register was very helpful...the place was very busy which I was glad to see. We dined in at The Catch in Denton, TX on 2/21/21 at 2:00 p.m. The food was very good, and the staff was scrupulous about cleaning the tables. However, the cashier, the person handing out the food at the drive thru window, and the waitress who delivered our food to our table were all wearing their masks underneath their noses. I had a direct view into the kitchen, and one of the kitchen workers wore no mask at all the entire 45 minutes we were there, while cooking and plating food. I think he might have been a manager as well. It's a shame, because the food was good, but I will not be dining in or picking up food from The Catch again, at least as long as COVID is a problem. read more

The first time I visited the best I tried was the fried crawfish tails so I when back for a second time same great taste as the first time.... but went for third time and order the fried crawfish tails cause they were so good the last 2 times... sadly the taste wasn't the same and I don't know why but my husband said cause there wasn't any seasoning on this order... the order was smaller even though we ordered the large... banana pudding isn't worth the try if you try to order it at night cause I think they make them early in the morning all pretty with whip cream but as the day goes by the whip cream loss it's volume... well my banana was ordered 9:30-ish on a Friday night so just imagine how that looked and tasted... read more

Not to mention that I waited in line for ten minutes while the same individual took orders, handed food out the window, and cleaned the packed lobby. It was my first visit to The Catch and I was pleasantly surprised. Denton doesn't have many quality options for seafood, but they are at the top of my list now. My wife and I had the shrimp po boy, buttered and toasted french bread, tartar sauce, lettuce, tomato and more shrimp than the bread could hold, it's exactly how a po boy should be made. Also had the boudin balls which were pretty dang good, dipping sauce topped it off nicely. They were quite busy with drive thru orders, takeout and dine in customers but the staff did a good job and my food was ready in 15 min. read more
