44 minutes to get an order of fried food to go. Had to order in the restaurant because website says they're not taking orders online and no one answered the phone. There were a total of seven people in the restaurant when I arrived, one eating and the rest waiting on to go orders. Two more dine in people came and ordered gumbo. Took them at least 30 minutes to get it. The girls were trying -- I'm not going to say working hard because they were mostly just waiting. Every guy in the kitchen tonight should be fired. I don't know where they kept going but you could usually see one guy or maybe two at a time. Who know where the other guys were. The one or two guys are just looking at tickets. Standing there. Talking. Looking at tickets. WTH? I stood for the last fifteen minutes and at the counter with my table Number for the last ten. The girl said "they're packing it up". I said "this is what you should have". One cook came and took a sandwich back because he'd made the wrong thing. Literally I ordered af 808 and it was ready at 843. At time of pick up there is one pour soul left waiting for his order and one new table of two. The food was thankfully good and was hot but I won't be back because of the service. I miss the old hoochies. The food takes longer, they removed the Half Catfish option, feels like it costs more now after the renovation, the seats are bolted into the ground too far from the table... I took my son out for an early Father's Day brunch. We ordered the Hoochie Platter which provided generous portions for two people and tasted delicious!! I enjoyed dipping the potatoes, corn and seafood in the garlic butter. But I'm a messy eater and used quite a few napkins. After we left, on the drive home, I noticed one of my rings was missing. I immediately thought that it accidentally came off as I was wiping my buttery fingers. I called the restaurant and reported the situation, The employee who answered the phone looked at the booth where we had sat and didn't see the ring, but encouraged me to come back and look for myself. In the brief time it took to return to the restaurant, an employee looked through the trash and retrieved the ring!! I was a very happy customer. She went above and beyond. Thank you Hoochies. Hoochies is, by far, one of the best places to eat in Denton and definitely one of the best places to get Cajun food in the area. The hush puppies are to die for as well as the gumbo. Most recently, I tried the shrimp cocktail and it was the best shrimp cocktail I have ever had. I've dreamed about this shrimp cocktail ever since I had it. The service is always very friendly and very patient while you decide what you want. Although it can be busy at times, you can either sit inside and listen to music while you eat or take it right outside the door to sit in a table and watch people pass by. It's a very chill atmosphere that you're going to want to be a part of right on the edge of Denton's square! read more

We were traveling for an event in Fort Worth but stayed outside of town until the event. We wanted seafood so we decided on Hoochie's. The restaurant is in a busy district with several other eating establishments. The inside is casual with a typical bar atmosphere. My husband had fried oysters with cole slaw. I had roasted oysters. Our appetizer was fried green tomatoes. All our food was good. We really enjoyed the tomatoes. We are from Alabama so we like a good green tomatoes. These were not overly seasoned as to what we are used to but had a good breaded crust. The roasted oysters were really good and filling. The service is good. You order at the counter and a server brings your meal to you. There are no condiments on your table. These are so.e hot sauces, salt and pepper across from the counter. We use to eat here often before the renovation. Have been back 4 times. Every time the shrimp and fish have been over cooked. On one occasion they brought out my husband's shrimp after a long wait and realized they had not cooked my oysters. 10 minutes later my oysters came out but the basket was short 2 oysters. This is a nice little gem near downtown square I would tell you to go check out, definitely great value for the money. It's a very chill vibe inside which I took a liking to after a long highway drive. Their menu consists of quite a few options to choose from as well but mainly within the seafood realm. I tried their fried shrimp and fish basket and it was great! Their selection of drinks was also very plentiful as well and admittedly I enjoyed their sweet tea! Patio seating is available as well so I had to take advantage of the beautiful day. Hoochies has long been one of our regular stops since their first location. We recently went again for the first time since the remodel. The updates are nice enough, and there seems to be more seating and better outdoor booths. However, I am not pleased with their menu "updates." They got rid of one of our favorite dishes, the grilled shrimp skewers. The fried shrimp were close but a little different than they were prior- and not in a good way. I can't exactly put my finger on the change. But, the worst offense, is they changed their french fries. Now, fries are normally pretty generic, but Hoochies actually had the best french fries in town. They were thick, steak cut fries with the perfect amount of seasoning. The new fries are literally inedible. They seem manufactured, unnatural, and covered in a weird chemical-tasting coating. I have heard other people complain about the new fries too- I hope they will revert back to the original recipe soon. The salad remains the same and is great. I will never understand why established restaurants change things that their customers love- it is almost never for the better. The plus, the food is still served hot and fresh, and the service is still pretty good. I appreciate the expansion of the menu, but it should not come at the expense of some of your loyal customers' favorite items, and I fear we won't be back unless they "revert" their offerings. read more

The best seafood restaurant in Denton, and likely the best in North Texas!. The decor and atmosphere is spot on. Extremely welcoming and nicely furnished with rustic wood booths and other chairs, tables, and high tops. Flat screens were on the walls as well. While ordering, I realized a co-owner by the name of Brad was taking my order. He is quite a friendly guy and willing to chat if you strike up a conversation. Next comes the food. Nothing less than outstanding. The menu included the usual items like catfish and shrimp, but also red snapper and grouper, clam chowder, etc., all cooked and served in a variety of ways! We had the batter fried shrimp, a blackened grouper po boy, and clam chowder!!! All absolutely delicious! Lastly, the prices were reasonable and portions are big! We ordered food from Hootchies while we were enjoying the Jazz band at Steve's Wine Bar. They delivered the food right to our table at Steve's and were very personable. The fried green tomatoes and oysters were delicious. The cornbread was ok, just not our favorite. The sliced bread that came with the meal was great though. We also ordered the shrimp kebabs and the shrimp was way overcooked which made them hard and chewy. The fries and slaw that came with the kebab were not our favorite either. This is a casual place with a fun atmosphere, good music playing and TVs around. Staff is always friendly and service is good. Beyond sad and disappointed. Over done, flavorless and sad food. The catfish didn't have any seasoning. Shrimp was so over done shells were stuck to the shrimp the potatoes were still somewhat hard and crab is such a small amount of meat and everything just tasted of water. Very casual , no dress code. Great place if you want to go eat and chill without all the "extra". I love that it's open so you can see the outside from inside. The very lovely man who brought our food, referred to the place as a diamond in a goats butt. I can't come up with something more clever than that, so I am passing it on. Hoochies is awesome. I have been here a couple of times and everything I have had here has been better than expected. I like the open air atmosphere, and my friend and I scored seats outside on a beautiful Saturday evening. The food here is great. This last time we did the ceviche and roasted oysters. The ceviche is made with flounder and I really dig the texture. They are also not skimping on the portions here, it was huge. The roasted oysters were amazing. Perfectly cooked and garlicy. Washed that down with a Dos Equis ( or two) and had the Full Catfish w/ hush puppies. The steak fries aren't anything special; mostly unseasoned and looked like they could be cooked for longer. At least 1/2 of my basket's shrimp wasn't deveined. The breading was hard. Very unappetizing and we were hungry after. We ended up going to Komodo Loco around the corner for a more satisfying meal. Floors were dirty. Won't be back. In Denton Texas there's a little dive bar/restaurant that you have to try. While it does t appear to be much don't let that fool you. The food is southern/cajun and it's good. Fried oysters, red beans and rice and more are on the menu. Service is great. You do need to order at the window but then things are delivered to your table and it does t take long to get your food. This was our second trip there and we really love it. Oh yeah. It's also dog friendly for well behaved dogs on the inside. read more
