    Tacos al pastor
    Meagan W.

So happy this place is so close by. Their food is really good. The salsa is slightly spicy which is nice. They do the best Al pastor meat in the area.

Tacos--for Texas these suck. They make handmade corn tortillas and they don't even use them for tacos.

Great food, excellent Margaritas and a friendly and welcoming staff. Recommend the Mexican style tacos on homemade tortillas.

Food was not good. But the drinks and the bartender were both great. I'll go back to have drinks but not eat.

But, we wanted to find out what it was like for ourselves, so we decided to pay them a visit for a birthday dinner. The dining area is open and large enough to accommodate lots of diners, although on a weekday evening we practically had the whole place to ourselves. Speaking of being a weekday evening, cocktails were half price for happy hour, which meant the first order of business was getting a margarita. Now it may not have been the best one I've ever had, but it certainly was one of the strongest! I definitely got my money's worth there. They have a $25 appetizer and entree combo that seemed like a good deal as well, so I decided to go that route. I chose hush puppies and jambalaya from a list of about half a dozen dishes. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside and all around tasty. The jambalaya was hearty and well seasoned. I don't think I have ever had one with as much shrimp, sausage and chicken either. Again, it was well worth the price. One of my friends, who also went with the combo, got the house salad as an appetizer and it was big enough to be a meal in itself. In fact, everyone was impressed with the size of their meals. We were equally impressed with the quality and flavor. My youngest son is notoriously picky, and even he loved the food. Our server was as sweet as she could be. She actually didn't know we were there to celebrate a birthday, so I can only assume that she's always that nice. It was such a great experience overall that we are already looking forward to returning and trying more of their dishes.

Blackened chicken po'boy, lunch special boil with shrimp and potatoes, both perfectly seasoned. Hush puppies were on the small side but crispy, tender inside, and delicately spiced. Just fabulous. Great service too! Will come again.

We ordered the boudin egg rolls, boudin sausage appetizer, alligator appetizer, and crawfish with the voodoo seasoning. Everything was really flavorful and well seasoned, and the crawfish had a great kick. The appetizers were perfect for sharing and made it easy for everyone to try a few things. They also did a nice job accommodating our larger party. Our server was friendly, attentive, and handled our table well, which isn't easy with a group that size. The only thing that stood out was the manager. He didn't greet any tables while we were there. At one point he brought a dish to our table but didn't say anything, and later spent quite a while standing by the bar on his phone. It didn't negatively impact the service we received, but it did leave us a little unsure about the management presence. Overall, we had a good experience and enjoyed the food. The staff we interacted with were great, but management left us wondering. We'll still come back for the crawfish though.

Matt our excellent server has a great sense of humor and welcoming personality. So much that we had to chat with the Manager, Bobby about him. The rib eyed steak - medium rare was scrumptious and the sides: mushrooms, baked potatoes & green beans cooked perfectly. Compliments to their chef/s! With what's happening in the world, the steaks are a little bit on the *ozempic thinner side but we still highly recommend because of the quality. I started with the poblano meatballs and wow, so flavorful, perfectly seasoned, almost had that grilled taste . For drinks, I had a lemon drop martini and it did not disappoint. For my meal, I ordered the chicken fried chicken and baby... BEST I've ever had. The crust was seasoned perfectly, not too hard, and the chicken was juicy. I also tried the smothered chicken, just as good. And dessert?! Peach cobbler with a snickerdoodle cookie crust... hands down the best I've ever had. No notes. Shoutout to our waitress Heather, she was so sweet, attentive, and gave great recommendations. The manager Chris also came by a few times to check on us, which I really appreciated. 10/10 experience. Each time I have come I've enjoyed something from the Chalkboard which has been totally different both times and neither selection disappointed! Here are a few specifics Wait time :5/5 Minutes. Came at a golden hour of 5:30p and didn't have to wait. Service: 5/5 Greeted immediately and served primarily by Ian, but had several of the other guys being willing to help us out. Everyone had a pleasant "how can I help you?" demeanor. Selection: 4/5; some farm raised, some fresh. My only catch would be determining a way to offer at least one or two more fresh water options. Food quality: 4.5/5. My dish was delicious but the dirty rice, as reported by one of the people in my party, had a strange aftertaste. Wife loved the options! Portion size: the standout for this one was the generous kids portion for my son's fish sticks and rice. My portion could've been an ounce or two larger. Big pro: Plenty of options for someone who is on a gluten free or restricted diet. Would I go back: 100% Despite a couple of marks that were just shy of a "5", I'm rating it with 5 stars based on consistency in experience and quality of food.

The experience was consistent with the same friendly, personal, amicable service that I received it each visit. The food was on par with what I've come to expect. And at Rustico, although the menu had few choices, one could tell that the quality represented there was consistent. Instead of trying to do too many things well, the restaurant has a few really good choices. At the table of six where I was sitting, we had burgers, steak, lamb chops, and I had Seabass. Plenty of different vegetables for sides and everyone satisfied. Not particularly stuffed, which isn't a bad thing. The location didn't seem conducive to big parties and even finding seating for our group of six seemed intrusive to the flow in the restaurant. Grace, our server, did a fantastic job of greeting our table, ensuring that we were well informed about the specials, and also ensured that we didn't miss the opportunity to order some happy hour drinks and appetizers before 6 o'clock rolled around. The only things that I would change would be having accommodations to suit larger parties, and possibly offering some specials that weren't just derivatives of menu items, but were truly special items. Verdict: Go check it out... multiple times. The value of the food and service combine for a well-rounded dining experience.

We seated towards the back of the restaurant in direct line of sight of behind the "bar" where an employee's child was playing and a great view of ketchup bottles (who wants ketchup in a Mexican restaurant). Gabriela & Sofia's is in the $$ to $$$ price range, and at this price point ambiance should be continuous throughout the restaurant. Our unfortunate seating location sadly put a damper on the overall experience.
