Only thing to note is when you call to place a to go order (their website says call to order i.e. no online ordering system) there is an automated system that lists hours, and then says "press 1 for reservations, 2 for private event inquiry, and all other stay on the line to leave a voicemail" (I.e. there is no option to place a to go order) so you have to press 1 for reservation to be connected to the host stand. I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant when it first opened & im very disappointed that after a while food and service is not good. We started with cocktails pineapple margaritas overly sweet. Chips & salsas (beans were bland) the red salsa was good. The fajitas were not worth it... even though meat was tender there was not even Salt in it. Nothing that you see on the plate was good!!!! And the pan seared chicken had no flavor whatsoever. We visited at 4:30 on a Sunday, restaurant was very empty and for some reason the service still lacked. The table was not bussed often to clear small plates. We had to ask a couple of times for extra glasses. Waiter was friendly enough though. Other than that, Ambiance was amazing. This restaurant is a whole photo op vibe. You feel like you are on a resort or something. The music is amazing although I wish we had asked if they could turn up the volume just a little. Food was good, no complaints from anyone and what they ordered. The sampler appetizer was awesome and gave a little taste of everything. Great place for a birthday or gals day. First timers. Came on Friday evening after thanksgiving. We made a reservation for 6;30 pm but it was not needed. It never filled up. The bar was virtually empty with an acoustic guitar and singer. So the ambiance is everything it's the best part of the restaurant. I love the decor it's truly cool and you can take some AMAZING pictures. The Margarita was good, but it's just your average Margarita. Nothing special, however I enjoyed the drink better than my food. I started out with a taco. It was mediocre and not very flavorful or good. I honestly would have preferred Taco Bell. The queso was blah and could have been hotter. So I wasn't pleased at all. I will say the salsa was tasty and the 2nd batch of chips were yummy. My first bunch of chips were crumbs. Like they were at the bottom of a bag. Overall I wouldn't go back. Your vision sensories will explode as you walk into Lost Colony. Each room has a different theme for you to choose. It was a beautiful Saturday, so we chose to sit outside on the patio. We loved the idea that they have an adults only patio in addition to one that allows children. Drinks were spectacular! I highly recommend the spicy magarita(made with poblano peppers). You will have to request as it's not a menu item. All the food was so fresh! We went light with just guac and tacos, and all hit the spot. I felt the shrimp tacos were a little on the pricy side for 2 tacos($19), but lemme tell you, they didn't disappoint. Fresh ingredients, and they filled me up! Service was top-notch. She didn't rush us through. She let us enjoy every aspect of the drinks and appetizer before we ordered. Next- calamari was beautifully plated, but the onion decor on top was making the little amount of calamari. $18 is also a bit pricey for the appetizer. Very tasty though- just not enough bite for the buck. Main- we did the fajitas- Flavorful chicken, steak was a bit chewy. Sides were good but nothing extraordinary. Food was not spectacular. For the price the portions could be bigger. Four stars for our waitress, she was epic and made celebrating a birthday pretty fantastic! She really went all out. It pains me to give this place 3 stars as I REALLY wanted to like Hugo's Lost Colony. Starting on a positive note: the restaurant is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Honestly the prettiest restaurant I've ever been to. It feels like a tropical paradise vacation without having to book a plane ticket. Drinks: We went for a Sunday brunch. The LC Swirl was quite strong, which was unexpected as it was in the brunch drinks menu. I'm not the biggest fan of alcohol but the strawberry margarita was pretty refreshing and tolerable. Food: The fried calamari was amazing. The calamari was cooked well and the tomatillo sauce was delicious. Unfortunately, that was the only dish I would recommend. On the other hand, the Al Pastor Potato Hash was the most horrendous dish I've had at a restaurant. The artificial pineapple taste was overbearing, almost as if a pineapple Bath & Body Works scent was sprayed all over the food. However, our waiter was really nice and took it back. I wasn't a fan of the Steak Chile relleno either. I thought it would be deep fried and filled with more cheese, but this version of the "chile relleno" here tasted more like a soggy stuffed poblano pepper with a scant amount of cheese. The steak was nice, but I didn't care for rice and sauce. As a Gen Z-er sucker for aesthetics, I still think is a great place to go if you like to dress up, take cute pictures, and have a fun time with friends without having high expectations for mind-blowing food. They have daily happy hour, margaritas are very good and pretty strong. Many options for food on happy hour that are very tasty. But here's the biggest secret - we've compared the chicken tortilla soup at every local Mexican Tex/mex place, and theirs surpasses ALL the others, some by miles. The broth is so deeply flavored and limey. The chicken is shredded so it comes to you in every bite. And the chunks of avocado are fresh and delicious. Moving this up slightly after I went there for lunch with a colleague from work. It was on his dime which I appreciated. I was going to go for the same meal I had before to see if there was any improvement, but both the waitress Bianca and my co worker suggested I get the steak fajitas. I will say it was much better than the enchiladas from last time. However, the guacamole was a bit salty, and the meat a tad rubbery so still some work to do. Staff still friendly and welcoming so that's never been the issue. At $24 for the meal a bit overpriced for the flavor. Some vegetables cooked into so plenty of food and realistically plenty for someone to share along with the chips. I do want to mention this time the hot sauce served with chips before the meal. Very good flavor there and very easy chance to get full before the meal arrives. I'd suggest they come up with a lunch menu which is smaller and less expensive. Nobody wants to pay $24 ($30+ with tax and tips) for lunch. For Friday lunch it was pretty dead except for a company party in the back with 25 or so people. We've been here several times and love coming here! The outdoor patio by the play area is AMAZING if you have kids. It's our favorite. There's not many restaurants where your kids can play where you can sit and have a drink or eat and keep an eye on them. We came today and Michelle was our server. She was wonderful!! Every server we've had here was friendly and efficient. The patio has multiple areas if you want outdoor seating but also not by a bunch of kids ;). The restaurant is large and all the different areas of it are beautiful. You really can't go wrong. Inside the restaurant is definitely a vibe. There's plants everywhere and candles - you need to go at least once just to see it. There's lots of photo ops from the lot up signs out front to the bathrooms. If you've got an event or a date and want to have a great atmosphere this is the spot. If you've got kids the patio is perfect. The food is 3.5 to 4 stars to me - which I hate to say since we really love this place but it's the one area they could improve on to me. It's still good and I've enjoyed my meals. Now if I was here for a photo op this would be my 5 star location. The restaurants set up is amazing, it's beautiful inside and out. It's my daughter's birthday, we arrived before the hostess and they directed us to our seats (with a warning, it steps down as you walk to the bar area. Thanks for that) very welcoming and friendly. Jasmine, was our waitress and she was amazing. It was a group of 10. We were trying to get pictures and talking not looking at the menu, she was very patient. She took our drink orders and we never had to ask for refills, she stayed on top of that. I ordered the chicken plate, the best thing on my dish was the refried beans. Been meaning to try this place and it was more than I thought it would be. Everything from the lighting and decor to the dessert...really a whole great experience. We did have a little wait with our server, he had two parties at the same time as is and several other tables...we waited a while for our orders and then again for our bill. Other than that, which may have been just one of those nights, it was really great. I wanted to try that cheese tamale, so they let me substitute a cheese for one on the chicken tamale plate....I wish I had gotten all cheese, it was so good. I will say the food isn't the most amazing tex-mex but I did enjoy the fajitas and brisket tacos and the flavors were there (the tortilla is also house-made).
