We're regulars at Velvet Taco in Grapevine, mostly for the 2 for $25 deal. It's enough food for both of us and a solid value. We genuinely enjoy the tacos, but fair warning, they can be hit or miss from visit to visit. The rotating tacos and Weekly Taco Feature are a big part of the appeal since there's always something new to try. The Slow-Roasted Brisket was a standout for us the first time, but on a return visit it came out way too cheesy and wasn't nearly as good. That inconsistency is really our only knock on the place. A note on the queso: it's thick. We like it, but if you're not into a heavy, thick queso, go with guac or another side instead. The chips are pretty good and stand up to the dips well. We also gave the signature Red Velvet cake a try, and it was just okay for us: quite sweet, almost too much. What happened?! I haven't been disappointed in Velvet Taco before so this is a shock to me. I made a mobile order right at the drive through window because no one was around and when the order was submitted someone came. SMH. My luck. After informing the lady that I did a mobile order she said just pull to the side parking and she will flag me down when it is ready. Welp, estimated "ready" time came and went and she never waved me down, so I drove through the drive through once more, pulled up to the window and WAITED for 7 mins before someone answered the window. That is incredibly long for a drive through wait time. I informed the person of my name on the order and they found my order on the shelf WAITING to be delivered. SMH. I thought, "ok, no big, at least I have the order", this was poor thinking because EVERY item was cold. Cold, not luke warm. What I really love that sets it apart is their thai curry twist on a few things - if you like curries, it's definitely worth a shot! This means that if you're not a fan of tex-mex, but you love curry, you can come join your pals and have a margarita along with a curry chicken bowl! The service is counter service, but they're fairly quick - save maybe in very busy times - but they do give it their best shot to get your order down and quick. If you order a margarita or sangria, be sure to wait after you order so they can give it to you right there! Unless, that is, you order margarita to go... then they fill a giant bag full of it and will call you! I had the rotisserie chicken bowl with half slaw half rice, and the other half of my party had the spicy tikka chicken bowl (see: curry). Both were really good, and we were satisfied with our frozen margarita and sangrita! Had the weekly Taco feature of Gochujang pork. One on Korn and one in a lettuce wrap. The lettuce wrap one was definitely better. All of the toppings and ingredients are what you would find in a typical lettuce wrap. Even the corn was not too dry due to all of the flavorful vegetables. Sauce was very light and a little spicy. The tacos are a good size and can be light or filling depending on the meat. The rotisserie chicken was delicious and juicy, the steak taco was juicy and delicious and the cilantro lime rice was decent, could have used more flavor. As a pescatarian, I might have found the best taco spot for my palate in Texas! There are a lot of delicious creations for the non-meat eaters. I ordered the Beer Battered Cauliflower, Sweet Chili Shrimp, and one with a fried fish. All of them were very tasty and unique! I wish I were just a little hungrier since their other Veg options also sounded delightful! The food came out in good time and the young woman who took my order at the counter was very pleasant. There is a lot off seating inside as well so it's nice for families. The only thing I noticed there was the ample amount of flies flying about. Landed really late and was starving. This was one of the only things open and I loved that I didn't have to eat fast food at midnight. I had completely forgotten I've been to one in Chicago until I walked in and saw the menu. The woman working the counter obviously didn't want to be there and wasn't in the mood to answer any questions or offer suggestions. Also the tables outside were gross. I didn't want to touch my table at all. From favorite to least favorite, I tried the Korean Fried Rice, Chimichurri Steak, and Spicy Tikka Chicken. I'm really glad I shared the tacos because while I loved the first few bites, I got tired of the flavor pretty quickly. At first, they were unique bites packed full of flavor, but then they just tasted kinda weird after a while. Too much going on and not everything works as a taco. These tacos are definitely on the pricier side and I shouldn't be getting tired of their flavor with how much I pay. They should really provide plates or something with the tacos because they are very messy. With how much you're paying for each, I don't wanna drop a single bit of them.
