It's most certainly a dive, and that in itself is not a bad thing. The lunch fajitas are suspiciously cheap, if I'm not mistaken $10. Now, that does leave a lot of unanswered questions, but I'll just assume everything is above board. Fajita vegetables and proteins come out smoldering on a plancha, can't really complain about that. As others have mentioned the chips are no longer made in house, and as a result have the kind of consistency you might expect from bagged tortilla chips. The inside is rather chaotic and could use renovations, however given the rock bottom prices, I suspect you can't have it both ways. Personally I would rather pay more and dine at Lupe's or Animia's, but that's not to say that Ole's is lacking. It serves a unique purpose as the spot you take your rather frugal acquittances or friends to, or as a destination when you already know you're picking up the tab for a large group and are not feeling very spendy. This is literally the closest restaurant to our house. The reviews aren't blowing me away, but it is much bigger and quarter on the inside than the smalll strip mall location may make it appear. There is a side bar, that has BINGO on Wed, and lots of happy hour specials on other days. We were there for lunch, they have very reasonable prices for the lunch menu, and about 10 different selections. I had the hard taco, with 2 enchiladas -one beef and one cheese. They were pretty good, and who could even quibble with the quality if lunch was $9. Service was pretty quick and nice. Overall a good place to have in the 'hood in a clutch! read more

Walking into Ole's immediately it's a friendly and fun kind of place. They seem family friendly but for the most part it came across as more of a dive bar with extra seating. Service was good. Kind and quick staff. We were mostly disappointed in the food. $50 for two dinner plates and queso that we didn't finish because it was mediocre. Maybe be someone else's thing but definitely not for us. The queso was flavorless and watery with a strange grainy texture. The beef tamales were small and burnt. All the sides were bland or watery too. The only enjoyable plate was the chicken chimichanga and even that had a few gristly bites. I wish I took a picture before eating but at that point we were famished from the day. Aesthetically the food looked decent but once you dig in its cafeteria food at best. This seems like a family run business and they seem popular with their usuals however it just wasn't for us. On the other hand they have great happy hours deals. I don't drink but if I did I think they're a good spot to drink well and eat bland enough food to not get an upset stomach. read more

Love this place, a longtime Tex-Mex mainstay in Coppell. IMO it's better than the other popular local Mexican place, Animia's. Just went to Ole's for lunch, where we had two excellent lunch specials and a $3 Thursday happy hour margarita. All so good! Just learned Ole's now has Bingo on Saturdays and Trivia on Thursdays. We visited yesterday for an early dinner and sat in the restaurant area, not the bar. There was only one other booth occupied. We waited in our booth for a while until the guy who seated us came over and said he would be waiting on us. We ordered drinks, and my husband asked for a draft beer twice but never received it. When he asked again, they told him they were out--but only after he had to ask. He then ordered tea. When our food arrived, my enchiladas, which I requested with sauces separated, were poured on top of each other and completely mixed--I couldn't even eat them. My husband received the wrong sauce on his enchiladas, but we didn't say anything because it had already taken too long to get service. Throughout the meal, we had to get up each time we wanted a refill of tea or water or needed anything else, as if no one was around. Once our food was delivered, no one checked on us. I want to note that our waiter, Ryan, was a nice guy, and I'm not blaming him. This seems to be a problem with understaffing and the kitchen not handling orders properly, which is ultimately on management or the owners. My husband and I originally tried this place because of the reviews, but this was our second time dining here. The first visit, about a year ago, also had poor service, though not as bad. My husband talked me into giving it another try, and now he says he will never go back. It's too bad because we really wanted to like this place since it's so close to our home and we frequently go out for dinner. Our favorite local Mexican food! What makes this place special is the hometown atmosphere. The owner is hands-on with this restaurant, and it shows. The staff is friendly and fun. They're usually pretty full, but still seat people quickly. Service is consistently good. The ingredients are fresh, and everything's well made with plentiful portions. There are healthy options, such as the Pelchuga con Veggies and Pelchuga con Hongo, which feeds my husband and I for two dinners each. The tableside guacamole is especially good. Prices are reasonable. They have special nights with activities, such as bingo on Wednesday nights. This is my local go-to Tex-Mex place and this review is long overdue since I go there a couple of times a month. The food is consistently good and the service continues to improve. What I like is that the owner, Jesse, is down to earth and honest in caring about his patrons. He's quick to admit when things don't go well and very open to feedback, both negative and positive. We gave Ole's another chance after a previous poor experience only because it is so close to our house. Unfortunately, it was equally disappointing! We sat at the bar, hoping to have a better experience however, our bartender Carmen, was one of the most unpleasant people we have come across. She was RUDE, surprisingly inattentive, zero eye contact and did not welcome us, smile once or engage with us at all. A friend invited me to join her at this restaurant. She talked so highly about the food and offered suggestion regarding what I should order. We arrived, was seated waiting for about 10 and someone bought us chips. Then waited 15 minutes after attempting to get attention for someone to come to the table to place our order. No one came. I was somewhat upset to see the boost in price for credit card payment. That is the cost of business. Charging $1.50 for a tablespoon of sour cream is outrageous. My husband and I went to Ole's on Sandy Lake Rd, just before 7PM last night, Saturday, OCT 19th for a nice quiet meal. We were in the neighborhood and so looking forward to eating there, as we love their food. We were taken by surprise that there weren't a lot of people in the dinning room during this time. Upon entering, while I rushed to the restroom, our hostess seated my husband in the bar area, not the dinning room, which was very odd. There were only 2 people in the bar area. As we began eating our fajitas, the music changed from hispanic music to music featuring the f-words, full blown f-words, in SEVERAL songs! We have NEVER been subject to such vulgar language. We spoke to our waiter and requested to speak to the manager. While waiting for the manager, staff quickly changed the music back to hispanic music. A female staff member appeared and told us the manager had just left. She apologized for the foul music, and told us the morning crew listen to that music and didn't know why it was playing because hispanic music is normally played during dinning hours. We came here by chance tonight and we loved it. The service was good, though the owner promised it would get worse if we came back. Who doesn't love an owner who greets people and make them feel at home! We had chips and salsa (a nice kick), queso (a bit runny for my taste), and the Fajitas Especial. The fajitas come with beef, chicken, pork and shrimp. The guacamole was good, chicken nice, beef delicious and the tasty shrimp was not over cooked (!! it usually is in my experience at Mexican restaurants); we didn't order the pork. Next time I'll be ordering the Carne Asada, it sounds delicious. Oh and they have another warm salsa (I don't remember the name) that was fabulous; order that too. Pleasantly surprised. The decor and interior furnishings seemed to still be in a state of flux. The entry and walls were bare but they were relatively busy and had a full staff. I would say ordering and food wait was a little longer than normal but the food was very enjoyable and for the price a great value. I noticed this place on my way home from exercising. Looks like a "hole in the wall kinda place". A bit hidden and sometimes these are the BEST places to eat. It did not disappoint! Went for lunch. I'm vegetarian and asked for veggie enchiladas. They were sooooo good! The fresh guacamole was sooooo good! Their salsa was sooooo good. I forgot to ask if they sell it. I would totally buy it. It was inviting and clean. The ladies restroom was clean The staff was very friendly and attentive The only negative thing I'd say(and honestly it wasn't a big deal) is the music that was playing.
