Well, here it's all about finding the best tacos, and it was obvious this spot was the place for breakfast when we walked in and saw 30 Hispanic DART builders chowing down. That's a solid stamp of approval in my book. We came for breakfast, and hubbs went for the chilaquiles with over-easy eggs. That plate was massive and absolutely delish. Went in on a Wednesday morning to grab togo for the road. Was quite excited because of the good reviews. The tables were empty but a handful of other people had come in for togo while I was waiting for my order. Place looked clean despite being empty. Fast and friendly service. Portion size on the sausage burrito was reasonable given the price - $5 before tax with no extras. And the hot sauce was actually spicy, so points for that. However, the burrito itself tasted quite gritty, like it had come into contact with dirt. I tried a couple of bites, with and without hot sauce, but it made no major difference. Ultimately, I had to trash the bulk of the burrito and could not request a refund or replacement since I had already driven nearly half an hour away. Like many people, thanks to covid, I mostly work from home now. On one of the days I decided to make the commute into the office, I left home without having breakfast and the closer I got to the office the hungrier I became. While grabbing a cup of coffee at a nearby Starbucks, I opened my handy-dandy Yelp app for some breakfast taco recommendations and Armando's was at the top of the list. In addition to having excellent reviews and great looking pics, I was pleased to see it was ~1 mile from my office. Upon arriving I was greeted as I walked in and made my way to the counter to place an order. As I studied the menu, I debated between the breakfast tacos or breakfast burritos and ultimately decided on the tacos. These are customized per order so one can choose what they want added (corn or flour shell, potatoes, protein, etc.) which means these are prepared on demand and not sitting around keeping warm under an infra-red light. Within a few minutes my order was ready, and I am pleased to say, the tacos were as tasty as they looked in the pictures. This place is fairly spacious with tables/chairs and booths for those wanting to dine-in. The staff is friendly and inviting which made placing my order super easy. In addition to serving breakfast, they are open for lunch and dinner with a diverse menu to meet the demands of most appetites. I am glad I discovered this place (thank you, Yelp app) as I will be frequent visitor on the days I go into the office. I placed an order to-go over the phone to pick up for a quick lunch, cheese enchiladas for my husband and the one-meat pastor plate for me. I hadn't been here yet, so I just did a quick perusal of the menu and then ordered over the phone. They cited 10 minutes for preparation and I was there 11 minutes later and the food was ready! The pastor meat plate came over a bed of grilled onions with a side salad and two orders of rice upon my request. With the red and green salsas, it became the perfect combo to eat on its own or with the tortillas that came with it (3). My husband anticipated rolled tortillas filled with cheese but instead received the crispy tortillas fried with cheese inside of them pictured with the review. This surprise ended up great because he loved them! Note the red salsa is not for the faint of heart but is delicious enough to at least drop a few dots of it on whatever you order! You can't ever have too many good taco places near the house. I came here for breakfast for the first time and grabbed a breakfast burrito to go. While I was waiting I was scanning the menu and was happy to see menudo served on the weekends. The prices here are super affordable and if the burrito was any indicator, their other menu items are going to be just as good. After doing a mini hike on the Cypress Waters Trail, I wanted to see what kinds of food places were nearby since I hadn't eaten dinner the night before and I was hungry. When I searched through Yelp, Armando's Tacos came up and since I wanted to try Mexican food before I returned to Hawaii, I headed on over on foot. Now, for those who are traveling from out-of-state, I would highly recommend either driving or getting a Taxi/Uber/Lyft because even though it's about 20 minutes away from Nokia in Cypress Waters, S Belt Line Road has no sidewalks lol. I am not sure if this has always been the case or if it is just because of the current construction happening but those 20 minutes felt excruciatingly long because of the Indiana Jones hoops and hurdles I had to go over. And as if the walk to Armando's was not bad enough, I am pretty sure all the drivers that passed by during rush hour were wondering who the idiot was walking through the brush. By the time I came across the BMS building, I noticed a sign that said the crosswalk was closed and let out an expletive wondering if my adventure was for naught. Fortunately for me, as I walked closer to the BMS building and the crosswalk sign, I noticed Armando's right behind and headed over. The interior of Armando's is modern, clean, and spacious. There are cute little decor items like piñatas and papel picado (like a Mexican banner often used for Dia De Muertos). By the time I entered, there were several people who were waiting for their food and one person who was ordering. As I took a look at their menu, I could not help but marvel at how cheap everything was. Tacos for $1.99? Burritos for $2.99? They also had a variety of protein options as well, so I decided to order 4 Breakfast Tacos with Chorizo and Corn Tortilla (you have the option to choose corn or flour tortilla) and a Breakfast Burrito with Chorizo. My total was $11, so I paid with my card and waited off to the side until my order was ready. I could not have waited longer than 5-10 minutes before my order was ready and headed out to wait for my Lyft ride back to the hotel so I could try my food. I tried the Chorizo Breakfast Tacos first and thought it was flavorful if not a little dry. The green sauce that was provided (Salsa Verde perhaps?) also added a nice spicy, refreshing element to the tacos. The real star of the show though was the Chorizo Burrito. Not only was the burrito a chonker but despite also having chorizo, it was moist and you could really taste the chorizo flavor in the burrito. I believe there was also cheese and eggs, similarly to the tacos and I finished everything in one setting. Even so, because of the quality of food and care that went into preparation, I did not feel disgustingly full. Overall, I would highly recommend Armando's Tacos if you happen to be in the area and want some Mexican food. It is quick, easy, and the amount of food for the cost is an absolute steal. I was craving Menudo so bad and so when my husband called in advance to check if they had menudo on a Monday, I was excited. That's where my excitement ended. No amount of salt, oregano, cilantro or onion could have given that menudo any flavor, It was absolutely flavorless. Maybe on the weekend it's made better? Their flour tacos are tiny size not an average size flour tortilla. Their corn tortillas seemed to be homemade and way larger than the flour tortillas. One of my kids had tacos de fajitas and barbacoa, those were good and had great flavor. Another kiddo(much younger) had a bean taco, but it was spicy for her. After asking if they added anything to it, They did confirm that they do add jalapeño juice to their beans. They did do right by giving her a different taco. I wish the menudo would have been amazing, now I am traveling home still wanting a great bowl of menudo. read more
