Picked in six half dozens of chicken, beef, and pork tamales for $28ish. It was such a good decision! I've been meaning to stop by this place but it's so out of the way for me. I will say that it was totally worth going out of the way for. The tamales weren't dry. The meat to masa ratio was perfect. I don't like tamales that have more masa than meat. This was definitely filled with meat. My order took less than five mins. They gave us a pretty good amount of salsa. And the guy at the cashier was really nice. I just got my food , first time ordering from here and Im upset.. upset I hadn't ordered way before! The tamales are so good, small in size but packed with lots of flavor. They're so good especially the chicken thats my favorite. I also ordered chips and queso and chips were fresh and salted and the queso was warm and so good. I just realized I haven't reviewed these guys. Over the years I've had so many good times here. Their menu is simple and pricing is similar. I always get the same thing, kinda. I get a tamale bowl with 2 tamales. Your option is either 1 or 2 tamales. They have different flavors of tamales and I let them surprise me with the flavors. The manager is awesome. He takes great care of us. The chips and salsa are home made too. They have a Mexican feel that in there to include wall art and music sometimes when the Tv Isn't on. read more

Tamales were good. Rice was good. Beans were okay. Fried pie had mold. The party I was with ate a bite of it and had to leave to do an EpiPen. They called the day after and reimbursed the $3 fried pie. I probably would've done better than that since EpiPens aren't cheap, it cut our visit a little short, so something to make us whole since the pie was completely moldy inside which cost us our full visit and an EpiPen. But I'm a huge customer service advocate so I'm giving a 3 and not a 2. They were nice. I definitely recommend the tamales! read more

These are the best tamales to me. I'm from La. and I grew up eating tamales, and these are the closest to the ones I grew up with. Everything is balanced. Not too much mesa, right amount of meat, and the flavor is everything. I get the harbanero ones and that heat is ‼I love it‼I wish they made them with ground beef but they don't. Just to clear up some facts: The employee DID NOT LEAVE the register to go get change, so I do not understand where he told you he had to go to get change. I am sure you can verify this on your camera security system. I did not want dollar bills so basically instead of giving me $72 , I gave him $103 so he could give me $75 in change with larger bills ! Normally a simple, easy to handle request. I would have thought as a business owner you would appreciate efforts to leave you with smaller bills in the register , allowing you more flexibility for future customers that would need change. Obviously this is not appreciated. Your response of " we are not a bank" reflects an attitude that my request for my change to be made up of larger denomination bills was too much to ask. You might want to check the cameras to view the event and logic to the response from your employee you were given BEFORE you reply to the review. read more

This is my second visit to Tommy tamale. Again pleased with my visit location was slow with about 3 people in it. Walked up to the counter and ordered my frito tamale bowl. I don't cone here often because the food would make me gain 300lbs so I try to go on special occasions. I thought with all the inflation that the bowls would cost like 15 bucks due to going to the hamburger joints and paying an arm and a leg for a combo now, but it was only 10.99 for a bowl which was great. Online ordering was convenient and they accept Google Pay. Order was ready when I reached the restaurant and the pick up was a breeze. As I got to my car, an employee ran over with part of my order that was in a second bag. After reaching home I found that the order missed the salsa that I paid extra for. Well, a few misses from an order fulfillment standpoint. I will give this aspect only 2 stars. Lesson learnt to check the order before leaving. Now the food. The Tommy bowl with the habanero pork tamale and beef tamale was out of the world. This will be my go to place for a tasty bowl. The frozen tamales come with heating instructions and I'm yet to try them. The menu has other interesting options and I can't wait to try them. Love this place it's a treat every time I come here. The tamales aren't that big and it is a bit expensive but the tamale bowl will surely fill you up. You choose two tamales on top of rice covered in chili and cheese it is a treat for your taste buds. The service is kind and knowledgeable about their dishes but it's tamales where can you go wrong am I right. The hot sauce goes well with the dishes and have to bring up the chocolate tamale oh my takes me back to my childhood good when my mom would make chocolate pudding on the stove and I'd eat it hot, did anyone else do this? This place is great, it is small store but big taste and the dining room is clean. I can't find anything wrong with this place at this time give them a try on your way through. read more

Happened to catch my eye as I was driving. Popped in to give them a try. Worth it! I ordered the 4 tamale plate (2 pork habanero and 2 mild chicken) with refried beans and rice and added a mandarin Jarritos. They brought the food out on a red basket style tray line with aluminum foil. The plate also came with a 2 oz container of salsa which I mixed into the rice. The tamales had a great ratio of masa to meat. They were firm enough to hold up in bite size piece to eat. The pork habanero had a pleasant bite to them but not overwhelmingly spicy. The chicken were mild but had a zest tomatillo flavor. The rice was enhanced by the salsa and was cooked just right. The refried beams burned my mouth bc I stupidly dig into them too quickly. After they cooled off, they were tasty. They have 7 different tamales to choose from to dine in. They also sell by the 1/2 and whole dozen. Didn't think to take photo of food before I ate it. Will do next time. Going to add to our post-Mass dining bc it's close enough to our church, St. Ann. read more

The walls are bright and the people are nice. I placed my order..I'd never been there before and I needed TIME!! The man behind the counter was patient and I really didn't feel rushed. This review is based on the Tommy bowl alone, and it is a thing of beauty. Ordered a bowl that comes with two tamales (habanero pork and chicken were my choices), and they come smothered with chili, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes and chiles. The tamales are so flavorful and the masa is cooked to perfection. The chili is out of this world, savory and seasoned well. The sour cream and queso held everything together, and the chilies provided a perfect bit of heat throughout. I love a good tamale. They are more rare than I would like in San Francisco. I found this place on Yelp and it look promising. My husband and I split the 2 Tamale bowl - "Tommy Bowl". (We chose hatch pork and chicken). It was smothered in queso and all kinds of good stuff, but the tamale got lost in the shuffle in this format. It also needed some crunch factor (like the frito pie) - So we ordered some chips and salsa on the side. If I were to order it again - I bet they would have thrown some Fritos on top of it for me Maybe I need to just order the tamale plate next time. And maybe I am just a liberal Northern Californian, but there is NO "recycling" trash there - they use those nice/expensive take out bowls with tops and you just have to throw them away at the end (Yes yes, I could bring them home and use them for leftovers, but my husbands collection of take out containers is already out of control.)
