My wife had the lump crab meat cocktail and a filet and then I had the fresh oysters to start followed by the Chilean sea bass. For dessert we shared the warm apple tart. All of the food was excellent and the service was timely but not overly attentive. The atmosphere is more traditional than more modern steakhouses - and the crowd skews a little older. But it was nice to be able to dine without have to yell to be heard. Overall - we really enjoyed our experience and we will be back. They told me the happy hour menu is usually only for the lounge seating, but since it wasn't very busy at the time, they kindly let me have both the happy hour menu and the regular dinner menu, which I appreciated. I ordered the crab cake from the regular menu and the shrimp from the happy hour menu. Both were decent. I wouldn't say they were the best versions of those dishes I've ever had, but they were solid. The crab cake was huge and could probably serve two people. Service was attentive. The ambiance felt a little old-school. We made a reservation online specifically for the bar - we were going at happy hour time - not necessarily for happy hour - but we did not intend on having a full meal. When we arrived we were told that the bar was full and that it was first come first serve. This was a bit annoying since we had specifically made the reservation for the bar and would have taken advantage of happy hour drinks. The manager Adam accommodated us by seating us in the dining room and a complimentary drink, which was nice. We ordered the seafood tour which was really very good. The seafood was fresh and accompaniments appropriate. I enjoyed the mignonette sauce. Also had the lobster bisque which was just okay to me. The consistency was rich and creamy, but I felt like it lacked salt/seasoning. Our server, Berlin, was very attentive and accommodating. She proactively asked the chef about the steak on a special were were considering and checked on us regularly. We tried going to Bavette's without a reservation and waiting (a long shot I know) and ended up waiting for about 45 minutes with no movement on the wait list, so we decided to have a back-up plan. When in Chicago, one must eat at a steakhouse. There are so many to choose from and this one had availability and was not too far. We were promptly seated and our waiter gave us the drink menu and explained some items on the menu. I knew I wanted the ribeye and my date wanted the surf and turf (filet mignon and lobster tail). We had a prosciutto appetizer which was good not amazing, but the main entrees were the stars. I cannot express what good service our waiter provided. I felt Bavette's seemed very snobby but at Capital Grille, everyone from the hostess, busboy and waiter were all phenomenal. They provided the right amount of attentiveness and providing recommendations. My ribeye was cooked perfectly - medium rare and we shared the au gratin potatoes which were fabulous. I've been to the location at Rosemont, but we got a gift card and decided to have a nice dinner on a Saturday night here. The place is very brightly lit and not too loud or crowded at all. Our service was prompt, and my black tie margarita was refreshing to start the meal. The complementary bread was warm and tasty too with a nice variety in the basket. We had the oysters to start, which were fresh and delicious. For our entree we got the bone in ribeye to share, which was perfectly medium rare and great quality. The ceasar salad was a nice light complement to the meal. The Brussels were very flavorful and crispy. I had a glass of Cabernet that went down beautifully with this meal as well. We ordered the lobster Mac and cheese which I was excited to try, but our server forgot it. A last minute dinner decision with my best friend. We had been hankering for a steak dinner, and wanted something within walking distance to where we were. Yelp pointed us to The Capital Grille. We ordered: Half a dozen Oysters: Sweet and fresh, a good start to the meal. Soy-Glazed Brussels Sprouts with Bacon: These were just okay. If you like brussels sprouts, and I suppose you do, if you're ordering this, my critical review of this dish is that it doesn't let the brussels sprout shine. The flavor from the soy glaze is just a little overpowering. Porcini-Rubbed Bone in Ribeye with 15 year aged balsamic: If you're like me, and you didn't know, apparently porcini-rubbed is some sort of mushroom rub...and I like mushrooms, but I'm not sure if it did anything for this ribeye. In fact, if I didn't review the name for this ribeye, I would not have remembered that it boasts a 15 year aged balsamic, and well, if it was there, I didn't taste it. I would expect an aged blasamic to carry a tangy zing, but my ribeye was just okay. Dry Aged NY Strip au Poivre with Courvoisier Cream: Very tender, but lacking that beefy flavor that I enjoy in steaks. In fact both cuts of beef just didn't have that mouthwatering beef flavor that a carnivore, like myself, relishes. I felt the flavors were muted, and for the price point, I really expect my tastebuds to be completely satisfied. read more

Hard pass on this place. One of the few times Yelp let me down. First, I paid $18 to valet and the guy literally left it where I pulled in (on the curb at the entrance). There was no real "valet" service. So I basically paid $18 to park on the street curb. The staff were very nice when I arrived but that's about it. I didn't care for the 4 different types of bread they served. Both meals I ordered were very plain and lacked any flavor whatsoever. I ordered a steak and had to ask for a steak knife. I had to look for my waitress for a refill and my wife said her mixed drink didn't taste like it had any alcohol in it. Personally, I would've liked the lighting to be a little dimmer to add some intimacy to the restaurant. After all this, I wasn't going to even try desert. For $60, there was an appetizer, main course, side dishes and a dessert. Drinks were extra.There were several choices for each category. My friend ordered a steak but it had to be redone, cooked incorrectly. I had the salmon which was good but not great. Sides were spinach and mashed potatoes and those were excellent. We received new portions of those when my friends steak was replaced. Dessert was tasty, I had the cheese cake, it was a small portion which was perfect after all the earlier courses. My wife and I will occasionally splurge on a nice dinner during a week-day when the budget and occasion calls for it. This evening, that was at the Capital Grille. Before diving into the details, it appears that much of the feedback provided in the reviews has been implemented over the past 6 months. Some details include: 1. Valet parking: It is now offered as free (though the service seems a bit silly given the available parking). 2. Allergies: We were asked very clearly at the beginning of the meal if there were any allergies that the staff needed to be aware of, and thorough explanations were provided of ingredient details without too extensive a breakdown. 3. Steak cook: The finish on both steaks we ordered were perfect and brought out simultaneously. Honestly I'm not sure sure how they were able to get a medium filet and a medium rare bone-in ribeye with different sauces completed at the exact same time. Ambiance: From the outside, it appears that the restaurant is going to be gaudy and lavish on the inside, but that wasn't the case. They had multiple, semi-private booths near the entrance that created an intimate dining experience. Food: We ordered the following: Drinks: 1 glass of Malbec, 1 glass of Merlot, an espresso martini, a glass of Savangin (with dessert) , and espresso (with dessert).
