Lunch Ribeye Steak Sandwich with Caramelized Onions & Havarti

When classic Chicago steakhouse charm meets flawless hospitality, The Capital Grille delivers. The Saint Clair Street location feels like stepping into old-school elegance: tall ceilings, velvet curtains, stockyard nostalgia on the walls, and servers dressed in those vintage butcher-style coats. Even for a daytime lunch, the space feels polished and timeless--perfect for a special occasion without feeling stuffy. Service * Immediately acknowledged our anniversary, even with a same-day reservation * Table was set with a celebratory note and glitter--small touch, huge impact * Staff throughout lunch was warm, polished, and attentive * Manager stopped by to wish us a happy anniversary, and they surprised us with a dessert and champagne on the house Food * Lobster Bisque - not on the lunch menu but available; rich, comforting, and exactly what we hoped for * Bread Service - fresh, warm, and classic * Espresso Martini - smooth and well-balanced * Burger - simple, high-quality, executed well * Ribeye Steak Sandwich - the star; essentially an entire ribeye on a baguette with cheese and onions, soaked in its own au jus. Perfectly cooked, hearty, and deeply satisfying. Highly recommend during lunch service Verdict The Capital Grille pairs elevated food with impeccable hospitality--and they do it consistently. From thoughtful touches to perfectly cooked dishes, it's a reminder why franchises like this endure. If you're going to splurge, spend it somewhere that makes the occasion feel special.

I've been a "Capital Grille" guy for over 25 years! My first introduction to this wildly popular steakhouse was in Las Vegas for lunch in 1999; then came Washington DC, Phoenix, Burbank, Atlanta (Buckhead Village) and Honolulu. You could say I have an affinity for this restaurant. Today was my first time eating at a Capital Grille here in Chicago. The downtown magnificent mile one was close to where I live so........... This particular restaurant is "Big", "Beautiful", "Bustling" and "Buoyant". I grabbed a stool at the bar and had a wonderful dinner watching college football and talking to everyone as engrossed as I was with each game. But, I did come here for a reason: My wife had a Girl's Night out and I've been itching to try Capital's Wagyu Cheeseburger with Grilled Onions, Steak Sauce and Vermont White Cheddar with a very generous pour of a Orin Swift Advice from John, Merlot. And for $35.00 this was gracious, to say the lest. Now that I've re-introduced myself to Chicago's Capital Grille, I'm certain I will frequent this restaurant regularly.

The food here is always really good It was pretty quiet on a Thursday. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. For appetizer, we had the Caviar And Caramelized Onion Dip With Housemade Chips - love! Main course was the lamb chops. I didn't really prefer to have the crust that was on top, but the lamb chop was cooked to perfection. Besides were soy glazed, brussels sprouts, bacon and roasted wild mushrooms, both really really good.

Came here again for restaurant week! Service was very speedy! Not my favorite vibe for a steakhouse, but not bad! To start I had the lobster bisque. This was wonderful with chunks of lobster. The perfect appetizer. For my main I got mashed potatoes and a filet medium rare. Mashed potatoes were great, very creamy. My steak came out verrrrrrry rare, they took it back to put it back on and it was much better! For dessert we had the cheesecake. It was a mix of crème brûlée and cheesecake and it was so yummy.

Me and my boyfriend went here for NYE and our experience was amazing!! We do show up a little late for our reservation but the host was very nice and efficient in getting us seated. Our waitress was a gem as well I'm sad I forgot her name. Anyways all the food was really good. We had the calamari for appetizer and I got their virgin mojito which was 10/10 so good. This was not our first time here but they never disappoint. The ambiance was nice, could've been warmer inside since it was freezing that night and the one thing I thought they could've done better was have a complimentary champagne toast since it was NYE you know and be festive as I've seen other restaurants do. That is my only complaint everything was perfecto!!

Went for my cousins 35th birthday celebration! They were amazing! So accommodating for a party our size! Couldn't have picked a better steakhouse to host us! A real gem! We ordered the Brussels sprouts and they were amazing. The lamb chops and filet are top tier. They gave us complimentary champagne to celebrate and it added such a nice touch! Will definitely be back. The server was amazing and so friendly. They have valet parking, a huge plus.

Food: I had the Seared Tenderloin with Butter Poached Lobster Tails and it was good. I added a side of Spinach which was good. The bread was good. The Lobster Bisque was good too. Drinks: I had a Lemon Drop and it was yummy! TCG's drinks never disappoint! Service/Ambiance: The server was great! The ambiance was good. I hadn't been to TCG in years and it was still good!

We came here for my granddaughters birthday and it was delicious! It's a beautiful restaurant and a great location. Our waiter was very attentive, and my filet was cooked perfect. It's really a very nice steakhouse. I'd love to come again!

I've been to the location at Rosemont, but we got a gift card and decided to have a nice dinner on a Saturday night here. The place is very brightly lit and not too loud or crowded at all. Our service was prompt, and my black tie margarita was refreshing to start the meal. The complementary bread was warm and tasty too with a nice variety in the basket. We had the oysters to start, which were fresh and delicious. For our entree we got the bone in ribeye to share, which was perfectly medium rare and great quality. The ceasar salad was a nice light complement to the meal. The Brussels were very flavorful and crispy. I had a glass of Cabernet that went down beautifully with this meal as well. We ordered the lobster Mac and cheese which I was excited to try, but our server forgot it. However he made up for it with an espresso martini on the house to finish off the meal, so this was a lovely dessert. Overall delicious food and a nice time.

Enjoyed this place for my 6th year wedding anniversary. We were greeted at our designated reservation time and were immediately seated. Our table was nicely decorated and there was nice card awaiting us. We had complimentary champagne as our waiter Joe helped. Us decide on what to pair with our wines. We participated in the wine tasting where we had three whites and three red wines. We order a lobster tail to pair with our white wines. We then had the New York strip steak and crusted salmon and mashed potatoes. We finished the dinner with a cheesecake and chocolate mousse cake. The food was great! It was great evening.

Service was friendly and top notch as expected from a nice Chicago restaurant. Props to the serving assistant/"busboy" who kept our waters full and table clean and set as we ate. Homemade pasta and succulent chicken were really fantastic for an otherwise "boring" choice by me. We shared a side of the cauliflower that was seasoned impeccably with toasted almonds and white raisins. It might have been the best part of our entire meal which is saying a lot. I'll begin by mentioning the drinks tasted great & the ambiance/overall esthetic and setup of this space is really wonderful. Unfortunately, my low review is because of the obvious distastefulness of some staff who are serving & bartending here. My guests visiting from out of state wanted a stiff drink in the afternoon & from the website photos + reviews, Vol 39 seemed like an awesome place that could accommodate our party with the large sofa seating. I even called ahead to ask about walk-ins of our size to be extra considerate. We received shocking dagger glares from a few staff members which made all eight of us immediately uncomfortable before even being sat. Like we were committing a major crime for thinking we could step foot in here. Empty stack of glasses slammed on the table with a water pitcher placed beside them; "I'll be right back." In a sharp tone. Ok. But not if we're paying $20 per person per cocktail. We were rushed and this attitude persisted, it is lazy.. especially given it was extremely slow.. super surprising for such an elevated establishment. Then, after a long while, we were all asked what we wanted to drink, like a fast casual burger joint. No, "any questions about our selections" or, "may I give some suggestions?" Never came by to check on us once despite the three other two tops inside. We wrapped it up fast since we definitely could choose another location with more attentiveness & basic kindness. We paid, a hefty gratuity in small print on the check which.. you guessed it.. was automatically included but no mention of this tidbit by the server. Maybe this is why we revived all this mean girl energy from the jump? Because they'll still get paid really well regardless? All eight of us have been a part of the service industry and this one stuck out extra frustrating & annoying. Never leave a low review, I'm writing today to management because they will ruin your repeat clientele, seriously. People can find another fabulous cocktail with way better service & vibes in the city. Overall, it was a shame my friends experienced this gross behavior today in the fabulous city of Chicago. Hope the staff does better in the future and works on improving their outlook.

I also loved how organized the karaoke setup was. Being able to add songs without waiting around made the experience feel seamless, and it helped keep the energy flowing. It's the kind of spot where you can unwind, have a laugh, grab something tasty, and forget about your week for a while. All in all, it turned out to be one of those unexpectedly great nights out. I'd absolutely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, relaxed place to hang out and enjoy some good music and good company.
