Went to the Broadway Restaurant during restaurant week in Worcester, MA. The restaurant was offering a special table d'hote dinner menu for the week (as were most other restaurants). This was a first visit to the restaurant and I have to say I was impressed. The ambiance is very "Denny's-like" (and it is a popular breakfast place), but the dinner was a little on the sophisticated side what with the restaurant offering, among other things, Baked Alaska for a dessert choice. Baked Alaska is not all that hard to make, but so few restaurants offer it and the ones that do are usually a littel up-scale and eclectic. We usually have had consistently good breakfast here but on a recent Sunday visit it took 40min to get a spinach benny and 2 over easy eggs with gravy. It would have been ok if the food was edible. The hollandaise sauce was a congealed yellow glob that must have been sitting in the kitchen for some time as well as the country sausage gravy. The waitresses know us there and our server did apologize for the service. If you're going to expand your business & hours figure out a better way to take care of your regulars. read more

Great breakfast place! One big caveat (a new policy) is they will not ask you your preference on fresh squeezed OJ vs basic OJ. The fresh squeezed OJ they sneak in on your bill will be 1/3 of the cost of your food, therefore making a quite a substantial impact on your total bill. read more

We were getting increasingly worried that Broadway might soon go by the wayside as have other iconic establishments in the City, especially on Water Street (e.g. Widoff's and Lederman's Bakeries). We've been meaning to go for some time, but only wound up there for a late Saturday lunch because we struck out at Birch Tree Bread (the line was ridiculously long and unmoving upon our arrival, due to, I'm assuming, the plethora of holiday shoppers at Crompton Place), another spot we've been itching to visit. After settling into a comfortable booth and getting acquainted with our very pleasant server, Ella, we reminisced while perusing Broadway's extensive time-tested menu. We were in the mood for breakfast fare so we both ordered from the House Specialties: Cheese Blintzes with strawberries and whipped cream, and a Broadway Special (two eggs, bacon home fries, toast and jam). Sis threw in a grilled bulkie roll for good measure (Widoff's was still on her mind). We were not disappointed, and enjoyed every last morsel of our food. The coffee was very good as well (both the regular and decaf are still delivered to your table in thermal carafes). The Broadway is nostalgia in Worcester, right up there with Coney Island. Not much has changed over the years (not since their most recent revamping). Not in ambience, food quality, reasonable prices, and service. We had a great meal here! I got the matzo brei which was fun to be able to get in a restaurant- it's not easy to find much Jewish food in Worcester! They were great, as were the blintzes. Super friendly service, terrific iced coffee with coffee ice cubes. Interior is clean, humble, and feels like a time capsule, in a positive way for us. Whenever i am in Worcester visiting my parents we come here to eat. They always brought me here as a kid and it still has the same delicious food. They have a variety of options on the menu such as Potato Pancakes my Mothers favorite, Matzo and Eggs, Breakfast sandwich Melts, Omelettes, and my personal favorite their Pancakes. I was here recently with my parents during the pandemic. They are opened inside with tables that have plenty of distance, which made us feel very safe. Expect to do some waiting for Sunday brunch but they're fast! Came in for breakfast around 1115am, waited a bit, but still seated and paying the bill less than an hour later! Got the Nutella stuffed French toast special (out of croissant so we got the regular but not disappointed) it was perfectly full of Nutella, and topped with loads of fresh berries and whipped cream. Yummmm! also got the Roma omelette: "pesto" tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, Italian toast. The toast was somehow stale? Or just too thin BC it was pretty hard, and also just coated in too much butter. Not the end of the world since I was sharing and got to enjoy the French toast and we were too full to eat all anyway! (Needed a box!) the omelette itself was well-made, FILLLLED with lots of tomatoes and creamy fresh mozzarella, and then also *basil* - fresh basil- which I much preferred over pesto anyway. My one comment is that it made the plate a little watery (it's tomatoes, whatcha gonna do) and that a little fresh chiffonade of basil over the top would have made the aroma fill the dining room! This huge omelette was also accompanied by home fries as well, that were well-seasoned, but very UNDER Done from the well-done potatoes I ordered. But they tasted good st least even if I was missing my crunch. The potatos were not very fresh. I liked the vibe of the place and would definitely give it a second chance to try the sweet stuff. This is a Worcester favorite. I have lower expectations in the Woo than when I'm in Boston, but the Broadway just feels like home. It's like having an aunt who is always trying to feed you with heartwarming home cooked meals (with lots of oil and grease and love). My favorite is the blintz (a diner staple), and the homefries. Weak I hate to write a poor review about a place that has been around for as many years as the Broadway, but the place just really isn't very good. You walk in and there's a weird stale atmosphere and the layout is very strange. Also, you know there's a problem when you hit a spot at 6pm on a Saturday night and it's dead. Ordered a couple of simple apps and my friends ordered a sandwich. All of the items were mediocre to poor. No flavor, very unsatisfying. Sorry Broadway, I won't be back. I hadn't been here since I was a kid. That was before the place was redone. 30 years later, and probably time for another redo, I stopped for lunch while in the city. The Broadway has been "Famous for over onehalf century" -quoted from, among other sources, their website. Holy cow!! It was still stuck in the 70s. The clientele was...um....older, I guess. The specials consisted of Salisbury Steak (!), Sausage Cacciatore, a Fish Sandwich! My first thought was "can I get a Sanka with that, or a Tab?" It was evident where the 'blue plates' go to die. When the waitress asked, from the counter (I was at a table), what I was drinking, I ordered a Coke. Little did I know that was the highlight of the meal. It was a Friday, so I had to try the chowder, as I am a sucker for chowder. It was on the special board, so that was decided right away. As I perused the hokey, garish menu, the one with huge pictures of food from another planet, I noticed the chowder was priced higher than soup. I figured this was an indication that it was homemade. Wrong. It was a bowl of warm milk and dissolving "potatoes" from a can, with saltines on the side. It was, at best, below par. Rather than get one of the "Specials" I opted for a "NY-style deli" sandwich I was in the mood for a Reuben and theirs was served with fries and pickle. How could I go wrong? Well, the sandwich was out in a flash, hot off the grill and pretty good. Not that I was expecting or even wanting it, but the pictured coleslaw was just a mirage, the pickle was from a jar; it was that weird, green, cooked dill like in the supermarket. The fries were underdone and mealy, but to their credit, they were underdone in fresh oil and they have good salt. Service was good other than the initial drink request. I tried to keep things low maintenance as my server had enough to deal with from her other patrons who were a little curmudgeonly. Recently went here for breakfast, the food was fairly decent. Mostly your basic diner food. Our waitress was alright. Didn't check on the table, or ask us how the food was. However, what made me rate this higher was the hostess. I think her name was Olivia, she was so friendly, professional and made me feel right at home. She was the one who actually walked by and asked us if everything was alright. They should make her be the waitress instead of handing menus out, leave that for the unmotivated waitresses who just stand there anyways. read more

Solid diner offerings in a city full of them. Broadway stands out a bit due to the inclusion of some classic Jewish cuisine (lox, potato pancakes, Matzo & eggs). Otherwise, the menu is fairly similar to other Worcester diners and the overall food quality is somewhere in the middle. The Broadway is part diner, part casual family restaurant and part Keno parlor. I've never seen anyone playing Keno in the dining area but the TV shows the results just in case you want to follow along. They're open until 8pm-ish so I imagine you could get dinner there but I've only hit it for breakfast and it does a diner-like job of it. If you order coffee you get your own pot at the table-- which is a nice little touch. The coffee is the regular diner variety and ample cream is already at the table. They have one of those plastic menus with pictures of generic food on it, so it's kind of like the old days at Big Boys, but there's more care to the food than you'd get in a chain and the daily specials can be pretty interesting. My last visit was early on a Sunday morning and I got a short stack of Oatmeal Raisin Walnut pancakes with a single egg and toast on the side. Needless to say I couldn't finish but everything was very good. The service was fast and the place was busy. There was a family with out of control kids that everyone (including the parents) were trying to ignore. It seemed like the parents were the only ones able to block them out. They were unruly enough that management should have said something, but they opted to keep the peace at the sacrifice of peace and quiet. Still a good place with solid food. First of all the so-called manager wanted to be RUDE on the phone and act as if it was my fault because THERE WAS A HAIR IN MY FOOD. This place needs to be shut down and the food isn't even good! I called to report this and the manager began yelling at me over the phone so I went there in person and He was nowhere to be found and I just thought that was Ironic. This will now be in our regular rotation of breakfast places. Broadway is one of longer standing locations in Worcester. The decor is somewhat dated, but i feel it works, as the place has been around for some time. It is actually a lot bigger inside then it looks. We were sat in the back room in a booth. The service was friendly and attentive. Out waitress checked on us often and got us through breakfast quickly. Bonus points that when you order coffee, they bring a carafe to your table, so your not waving down anyone for refills. I felt that was a simple, but thoughtful difference that can certainly make your visit more pleasant. The food was great. They serve some standard breakfast fare and they have some different options as well. Their specials are also a plus. Boyfriend ordered steak and eggs and it came out cooked the way he liked. The side of homemade corned beef hash was fantastic as well. I ordered the eggs, lox and onions dish and i loved it as well. They scrambled they eggs and there were pieces of lox throughout. Soooo, we did not eat here but we will when passing through Worcester. We did attend an event that they catered. It was not fancy but the food was really good. There was smoked salmon and accompaniments that were standard. There was also egg salad and tuna salad that were just darn exceptional. I know, not gourmet but I cannot tell you how much I appreciated the quality of these two simple items. And there was a sweet kugel I thought to die for. Most soft and luscious. They had potato pancakes that I did not care for but others loved. Sorry no pictures but this simple luncheon was a delight. I pass through worcester quite a bit and will try the store. It is an easy on and off the highway for their location. As easy and fast as most rest stops would be. An update to the review. The Broadway has been open as long as I can remember. Summer Saturday nights my dad would drive down and order hot fudge sundaes with homemade ice cream. We had given up on not one, but two other breakfast joints before we finally decided to try The Broadway one Sunday morning. While the other places had 1 hour plus wait times, Broadway was able to seat us within minutes. The quick seating worried me that our breakfast would be sub-par, but I was delighted to find that everything was not only pretty good, but also wonderfully cheap. We loaded up on pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, french toast with fruit, and many many cups of coffee. Ten minutes went by and we complained to another waitress that was folding napkins at a booth behind us. Instead of getting us coffee, she disappeared in the back to look for our waitress. She reappeared 5 minutes later and stated" she'll be right with you and continued to fold napkins. About 90% of the place was empty and we were not the only couple not getting service. I just love this place on a weekend for brunch or during the week for a work luncheon. During the weekend they run some unique specials and mimosas. I had the Nutella pancakes and OMG they were amazing. My friend had the Eggs Benedict and the portions were huge. The waitstaff is super friendly and the place is clean unlike a lot of greasy old fashioned diners people are use to. They have homemade ice-cream that is to die for. Reasonable prices. This morning I decided that I must have lox and a bagel for my morning nosh. I have been craving it for 3 weeks and enough was enough. The Broadway was open! I went in and promptly ordered my lox with a bagel and a schmear to go. I had a cup of ok coffee while I waited. It was the best I have had when I haven't made it myself. Fresh bagel, light-handed application of cream cheese, just enough lox, fresh tomato and red onion slices. My one complaint was that for 4 pieces of bagel I only got 3 slices of tomato. The place was very clean and SO quiet on a Sunday. All adults enjoying low key conversations and no kids around. I did see an option of Mickey Mouse pancakes but that could be for the hungover Holy Cross kids ;) Anyway, I will have to go back for their Bavarian French Toast - that looked yummy! PS - We did try their ice cream at the Big Dipper at Elm park yesterday -- it was some of the best that I have had in this area. Hubby still loves Trombetta's better tho'. read more

Great breakfast place. We arrived when the funeral for several Boston Firemen was on and the place was a bit dreary. The food was fair and there was a very wide selection. I was disappointed in the croissant french toast, but the potato pancakes were stellar and really made the experience worth our time. Service was good but a bit distracted.
