We were in the area so we stopped on in, we were greeted and told to sit anywhere. it was mid morning so not very crowded. We ordered coffees and pursued the menu and ordered blueberry pancakes and sausage for me and a omelette for my partner. Everything was delicious, we'll be back !! When we visited, around 11 to 11:30AM, there were maybe 5 customers. We both ordered omelets; they were good and presented well. Wait staff were pleasant and attentive. However, we will NOT return. This place was N-O-I-S-Y; not the customers, but the Owner and kitchen staff. I asked our waitress to please ask the (loud) guy to lower his voice. It was a cacophony of noise: very loud voice and kitchen staff constantly banging metal items, seemingly on purpose. The (female) owner came to our table to confront me. Yes, confront me, not to ask me anything. I started to say, "We would like to eat our meal in peace....". She tore into me saying she talks loud because of fan, radio, and kitchen noise, ending with "Eat somewhere else". Her customers then added their own very rude comments. 10/10 spot. A cozy family-run business. I come here regularly but haven't left a review in a while. The service is excellent! You can certainly tell everyone working here is actually working and is committed to what they are doing, especially the cook/owner. The weekend is just as good! I went once Saturday and once today. Cash Only...had to leave my license and go to the ATM after we finished eating. Food was basic diner food. The side of bacon my son got was hard as a rock. It was in plain sight sitting in a big pile warming (hardening) before we even ordered it. My two sons both had the pancakes which they enjoyed. Would come back and just stick to the basics with no add ons. The home fries and omelette I had weren't anything I'd order again here. First of all: They should put up signs that say CASH ONLY! Who on Gods green earth doesn't accept cards these days? The food was mediocre, at best. Overdone bacon, cold pancakes. But the eggs I got were cooked as I had ordered them, over medium. The butter that was placed on the toast and on the pancakes never melted. A sign that they were cold before the butter was applied. I can't imagine that we will ever return here, as there are plenty of places in the area that serve a MUCH better breakfast. The waitress was nice, and the food was cold and average. Stopped in here on a Tuesday morning for breakfast and unfortunately this visit did not go as well as my first one. I had The Big 2. No complaints, the food tasted great, eggs cooked, but not over cooked, the pancakes were fluffy and moist. The service, meh. My server came right over to take my order, the food came fairly quickly. Then nothing. I didn't see her again till I had finished my food. She never came to check on me or see if I needed a refill. Just brought the check and ran. Not sure what the deal was as it wasn't overly busy. Perhaps she was to busy hanging out at the counter talking with the rest of the help. Went here a few years ago and wasn't impressed with the food at lunch but today my Granddaughter and I decided to give it shot at breakfast as it was close. The coffee was pretty good and my granddaughter's chocolate milk was at least cold if almost devoid of the requisite chocolate syrup. Our order consisted of Scrambled eggs, sausage, home fries, and toast for Julia and I got the "Special" of Irish Benedict that also came with home fries. I'm sorry but home fries should be at least warm when the plate arrives at the table and seasoned with something other than cheap paprika for color. Scrambled eggs are just that SCRAMBLED and not a nasty dry omelette without any sort of filling that gets cut up into smaller omelette pieces when they get thrown on the plate. This mess was browned on the top and bottom! The cook needs to back to basic egg school. Toast should be crisp and approximately the same size as when it went into the toaster and not be similar to half toasted bread that has been run over by a truck. My Irish Benedict tasted OK but it could have used additional hash and a decent hollandaise rather than the packaged crap you make by adding water. Same home fries. Ugh.. The quality and quantity was not worth $8.95. My advice is to find another breakfast place. One that actually gives a crap about the quality of the food and the service. read more

I had a whole half hour to myself late this morning so the Coffee Mug had been recommended to me so I thought great a cup tea a muffin and some quiet reading make me feel better. I sit at the counter and there was a small girl sitting near me she was helping out rolling silverware with her Mom. They looked exactly alike. Anyway no one greeted me , no one asked if I'd like a drink , no one said I'll be with you in a minute. Lots of staff so not that hard. Place wasn't packed . As a former long time waitress I get it when lots busy but a smile and I'll be tight with you would have been appreciated. I waited 5 minutes and no greeting from anyone so I got up and left. The waitrsss that was sitting next to me ran after me and asked if I got what I needed? Of course i didn't and now I'm upset and still hungry and they ruined my half hour to myself which I rarely have. Can't comment on the food or service as I did not get either. I will go to my usual place Citiline in Worcester always hood good and great service the Coffee Mug doesn't need my business apparently. Thank you back to my favorite place . read more

My wife and I have been going to the mug for about 14 years and it is still our favourite place to eat breakfast. It's small but quaint. The food is exactly what you would want, nothing fancy or over the top. Just a good, old fashioned breakfast that your mother would make! Effie, the owner is the sweetest lady and always greets her patrons with a hello and in some instances a hug! The staff is as equally friendly which makes going here a pleasant experience no matter who your server is! We would recommend the Coffee Mug to anyone who loves food! My boyfriend and I have come here many times and have had great experiences each time. food is great, normally we have a great waitress. However, today we walk in to have breakfast with my boyfriends father and it was a completely different story. the waitress was beyond rude; practically throwing things on the table, ignoring us when we asked for more coffee/water, wouldn't make eye contact, no thank you/good morning, very short and demanding. I have tried several times to like this place and every time they manage to disappoint. The staff doesn't seem to want to be there. It is a very small place that is crammed with tables. Breakfast isn't that great (really how hard is breakfast food to make?) and lunch is actually worse. With all of the options in Auburn it's really not worth it to go here. read more

I've been here just twice (despite growing up in Auburn) and its an awesome little gem. Is it the best breakfast place on Earth? No, but it's pretty darn good. I ordered the Big 2 last night. 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, and 2 French Toast, plus a coffee. It came to about $9.50 plus tip. I get my eggs scrambled, so nothing too fancy, but came out good. Not runny. French toast was awesome. The service was quick and friendly. Definitely recommend it! read more

FANTASTIC SERVICE! Excellent Diner! My husband and I came here today, I love diners for breakfast food and coffee. I'm a very picky coffee drinker and the coffee here was freshly made and delicious! I definitely had to refill. The plates my husband I got were large portions and everything was tasty and good quality. It's a very cute little dinner, very clean and nice. My husband and I are Muslim and are often discriminated against in diners (which is unfortunate that we never know what to expect). The people here treated us like family! The girls were all extremely sweet and genuine. The service was beyond excellent. Honestly the service was one of the best I've ever experienced and that compares it to 5 star restaurants and all different kinds of diners. My husband and I were treated so well by all the lovely ladies here. We are from New York but will definitely come back to this diner anytime we are in the area. Food and coffee are decent. It's really small and claustrophobic inside when it's busy. Also, it's cash only, and they didn't tell us until we got the bill. We were told the owner refuses to post a sign saying cash only because she's afraid of losing business. Nothing against this place, but we probably won't be back. We've been passing this place for 18 months and decided to give the Coffee Mug a go this morning. First impressions, tiny but very clean. Tables to the left, booths to the right and a shining counter straight ahead. All of the waitresses were smiling and quick with the coffee as we sat ourselves in a booth. Their menu had all the standard breakfast fare at reasonable prices. We both chose specials this morning. Hubby chose the Irish Benedict and I chose an omelet filled with spinach, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and cheese. They were good sized portions, the hollendaise was done well if a little thin, and the home fries were good. That said, there were a couple of low points. Both of us had hot and cold spots in our home fries, only one of his eggs was cooked hard as ordered, and the coffee is weak. I am hard to please when it comes to coffee -- I like it strong. I hate it when one little creamer turns my whole mug white. :( Breakfast only came to $13.45 before tip and we weren't charged for coffee. Maybe that's a perk at the Coffee Mug. We'll give them a try at lunch sometime. Breakfast was good enough that we want to see what else they can do. There's got to be a reason that their parking lot is always full. read more

First off, Cash Only. Not a huge deal, many places like this are the same way. Being called 'the Coffee Mug' is inviting. It has its own parking lot and the place can house about 20-30 people comfortably. The coffee is decent...and most everything I've ordered is fine. I don't think I've had anything absolutely outstanding here...but certainly suffices for an adequate breakfast. The prices are reasonable...I can travel to a diner I recently reviewed not too far away in Oxford and get about two+ times more food easy...but for the locale to where I am living currently, it's a better option than McDonald's. That said, there isn't much competition that I'm aware of for 'breakfast', but I will keep looking. This place is worth the try if you're in the area. My wife and I found out about this place on yelp. We where looking for a breakfast place while running early errands in Auburn. We are so impressed. It was a Saturday morning, place was half full and kept slowly filling until every seat was filled. The staff is so friendly and it didn't slow them down at all the busier they got! Team work and knowledge of menu was awesome. I ordered stuffed french toast special, it was great. My wife ordered her standard cheese omelet and toast. That was done well. Everything is sparkling clean, the people are nice and the food is good but not eye-popping "wow," just good, simple food that arrives fast. I had one of their special five-ingredient omelettes with a short stack of pancakes and coffee. The omelette was well made and tasty, no grease or mess. The pancakes were a bit tough but not too bad. And the coffee was excellent! Prices are very reasonable, too. Bring cash, no plastic accepted. Again, don't think you're getting anything fancy or trendy here.
