so I have been driving past this place for years, and never was able to catch them open ( I thought they were closed down) but I got lucking and they were open. I finally went to Chet's after driving by over and over. It seems like they're always open when I have plans and closed when I'm free. Well finally the stars aligned and I went in alone. As soon as I entered the cook/owner said hi and I sat at the counter and chatted with her. It was so friendly and warm and the other people at the counter were inviting. You can tell they get a lot of repeat local customers. I got a huge pancake (with real maple syrup of course!) and sausage and both were great. It's diner food but not greasy or bland. Should Chet, Chet Jr, or CIII be alive and running this diner, I don't think they care much about my review or number of stars. This place is probably always busy with the locals and when I walked in i immediately thought "oh, the Cheers of diners, where everybody knows your name (except for mine). Since there are no 1/2 points I do have to settle on 3 after leveling off the pleasant experience and atmosphere and my meh food. However, I do recommend coming here! This place is always packed but they have a high turnover wait since there are counter seats and actual tables. I love ordering their Bill K combo which comes with two eggs and choice of sausage, ham or bacon in addition to pancake. I always upgrade the pancake to blueberry for an additional charge. The pancake is packed with a generous amount of blueberry. It is not too sweet yet fluffy and delicious. The size is huge too, fills the entire plate. The combo also comes with coffee or tea, the coffee is refillable. The staff are friendly and fast. I'd say to be here early because they close at 11am! read more

Charming breakfast diner built in the 1930's. interesting nostalgic decor that seemed very little if any change over the years. We sat in the room opposite the counter. The place was moderately busy and we were seated immediately. Our waitress was very busy yet attentive and friendly. The menu was simple and offered basic selection of breakfast options. I ordered coffee, two scrambled eggs, bacon, wheat toast and hash browns. My friend ordered apple juice, ham and cheese omelette with mushrooms, home fries and marble-rye toast. My eggs were cooked to order and fluffy. Bacon was crispy, potatoes were slightly crispy and tasted freshly grated(not from a frozen bag). Toast was basic and nicely buttered. Two things I would change: Onions in the home fries. Soak the bread in the eggs just a moment or two longer for french toast (I don't like bready parts, I like it to be all eggy). Those are the ONLY two things I would change about Chet's. I am appalled it took me this long to eat here and I'm kicking myself. Listen, you're going to clog your arteries here. There no skimping on the butter and such, so plan for salads the rest of the day, but, OMG yum. This is what a diner should be. Clean but sort of looks dirty. Worn but working. The staff is a no fuss kind of team. You order with whoever, a waitress, the cook, whatevs. There's no bill, just go to the register, they know what you ordered. They are only open from like 5:30am to 11am (except on Fridays where they have a dinner fish fry until 9), but, despite that, they have a FULL LIQUOR LICENSE with a loaded bar. Seriously, if I had noticed this when I first walked in I would have had a Bloody, but I didn't catch it until I was on the way out. And a special treat... I like honey in my coffee. Don't judge, it's a thing. A delicious thing. So I ask for honey and she gives me a nearly empty bear and says, "go ahead and finish it off, I'll just run down the street to my mom's and get more." I think there are 12 seats at the counter, plenty of tables adjacent a bit crowded together though. I've mostly been here for breakfast. It's a tough get in the mornings especially on the Saturdays (closed on Sunday). Open 5:30 am -11:00am Mon-Thr, 4:30am - 8:00pm Fri, 6:00 am - 11:00 am on Sat. When the kids were young their Tae Kwon Do Dojang was just a short ride away. They mostly liked bagels on the grill and pancakes. When they moved on to other sports I mostly went by myself or with a buddy. Stopped in with #2 son (who now eats eggs and breakfast meats) for a breakfast after soccer training. They didn't have the Kielbasa, and I wasn't feeling the Ai-ta-lian sausage that day but I did get the hash and links. Try the hash it's unique I think they mince bell pepper in. Omelettes, and breakfast sandwiches are my goto items. * parking lot: front and back. A "true" diner, family-run, with a small and cozy environment and clearly a favorite among locals and truck drivers. Blueberry pancakes are phenomenal, best I've had anywhere. Homemade muffins, served buttered and grilled, are excellent as well. Otherwise standard breakfast fare is solid but not extraordinary (homefries could use some seasoning). Sometimes they have specials (check the blackboard) like omelettes with fresh basil (picked right from the owners' garden), homemade muffins, and if you are lucky on a Saturday, biscuits & gravy (absolutely divine). Coffee is very good and flows endlessly. Orders can sometimes take awhile given the limited capacity and lean staffing, but service is generally very friendly and welcoming. If you sit at the counter, you can watch as your food is being expertly prepared at the grill while listening to entertaining banter amongst the staff and regular patrons. She has a running conversation with her customers and is always asking how they like the food. She offers homemade muffins and lots of other homemade creations. The prices are great! Mostly because she includes free bottomless coffee with all the breakfasts. All the other breakfast places seem to charge 2.50 for coffee. I usually get out of there for under $8 including tip. After years of driving by Chet's, I stopped in around 8 on a Saturday morning with my 10-year-old son, Lucas. We took the last available table, clearly on the tail end of the first surge. I ordered eggs and hash with wheat toast. Lucas ordered the Saturday Special omelet - sweet Italian sausage with sautéed peppers and onions and provolone cheese. Service was good. Went there for the Friday fish & chips and can't say enough good things about it. Fresh, hot, and plentiful, served with french fries and cole slaw, all for under $10. Also got a basket of onion rings and they were so good my wife, who's not a big onion ring person, matched me ring for ring. As a fellow patron put it to me at breakfast this morning: "You gotta love diners. Everyone is just so much friendlier." This is true of Chet's! I am embarrassed to admit, but I've lived around the corner from Chet's for 14 years and never once set foot in the skinny, metallic box that houses great breakfast food and almost 80 years of history that has engrained the establishment in the annals of Northborough lore. My first Chet's experience was not a let down, though admittedly I entered with low expectations. I indulged both my sweet and savory cravings with a french toast combo meal, which was delicious but no more delicious than I've had elsewhere. Topped off with a coffee, I downed the meal and left satisfied, especially given the adorable price! The service was slow, but understandably so. Our waitress, who we shared a few extended conversations with (in typical Massachusetts fashion, mostly about Tom Brady) continually apologized for the delays. She claimed they were busier than usual, and if this is true, I'd believe that Chet's simply doesn't have the requisite infrastructure to deal with a true "morning rush". In all, though, we were not there more than an hour. You walk in on a Saturday morning to people sitting at the counter enjoying the paper and coffee, the staff milling around trying to fill everyone's orders, friends who are pleasantly surprised to see each other, and just some good down to earth coziness. Ofcourse I wanted the "real" experience so sitting at the counter it was! I got a pretty standard breakfast meal with two over medium eggs, potatoes, and wheat toast. The food is nothing to rave about it is pretty standard. But they do have weekly specials so if you want something a little bit different go for that. When I went they had some sort of cranberry muffins, and cranberry pancakes, and bloody mary's.
