So we had dinner there this week during Nights of Lights. Honestly it was the only place we could find reservations for 5. Note- during Nights of Lights-plan early! The front dining room is very brightly lit. Felt like a diner. Be nice to have a bit dimmer lighting. Luckily we were seated in one of the back room where it seemed cozier. Our resy was 6:45 and already we were told that the oyster special was very popular and we were sort of discouraged from ordering since it would take so long. I was in the mood for fried oysters and the waiter said those would not be a problem.. ..but he came back soon after ordering and said no go on the fried oysters. I had to change to my order so then asked for a fisherman's platter prepared fried. When it came out it was prepared blackened and missing the fish and oysters from it. I let the waiter know and he brought out a piece of fish to add to it. Still no oysters. I feel like we should have been comped a bit. Didn't want to raise a fuss though and seem like a jerk. The food itself was very good and everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. We got several appetizers also and the Brussels sprouts seemed like everyone's favorite. I know restaurants are pushed to their limit this time of year. But eating out is so expensive now you really want to get what you requested. We probably will not return. read more

Had dinner with my parents here about a week ago, and it was pretty disappointing from start to finish. We had reservations, arrived early, not busy at all, and... it was chaos at the host station. Three people, no one really seemed to know what was going on. We asked for a minute (to use the restrooms) and they totally forgot about us when we returned. Service: 3. Our server tried. I think. But dinner took over 2 hours. Lots of time waiting and wondering what was going on. Orders were messed up (1 martini missing olives; 1 ordered sandwich came out as a plate). Waited for the bill for a long time, until one of us caught the eye of another server. Food: 2. We all ordered the grouper (and it was good), but in different forms. Not a single one of our dinners matched the description on the menu, though. My "grouper n' grits" was described as: "Fresh blackened grouper served over bacon, "Azar" sausage, peppers, onions, and cheese grits." It was fish over (A HUGE PORTION OF) grits. Not really blackened. Sandwich was dry (no sauce whatsoever). Positives? Martinis were fine. Oysters were decent. But they couldn't outweigh the issues with service, management, food, and prices. read more

We arrived at 4pm on a Wednesday. 75 cent oyster night. Oysters is exactly what we were looking for. We ordered 2 dozen and an order of Conch Fritters. The oysters were delicious. The conch fritters were fried so hard they were not edible. I only had a bite of one and left the rest. The waiter was not attentive at all, I think his name was Ryan, but I am not certain. When he finally reappeared to ask if we were going to order an entrée, I stated we were going to share an entrée of fried shrimp and fried oysters. Unfortunately, they were out of fried oysters, so we decided to forgo the entree and cash out. When he was clearing the table, he asked if we wanted to box the fritters. I said no, they were not good. He cleared the table and brought the check. Crazy of me to assume he would remove the fritters from the bill I guess, as it was clear they were not eaten, and it was clear they were grossly overcooked. Any ways, the setting and the interior/exterior is very nice. I would recommend the steamed oysters with a nice view (we sat on the patio) beyond that, I cannot recommend. read more

Took nearly 20 minutes to arrive so we went ahead and ordered starters and entrees. We ordered a version of chargrilled oysters with garlic, cheese, etc. They arrived but food runner brought no plates or utensils. Waited about 10 minutes and then son went to get some. The oysters smelled very garlic strong. My son ate one and nearly spit it out so I grabbed one. I could feel the oyster in my mouth but there was also a big lump of something. I spit it out and it was an entire clove of garlic. My son said his bite had three. Let's hope dinner is better. DIL ordered steamed shrimp and a couple sides. Sides arrive but no shrimp. Server would bring them right away. Her green beans tasted straight from can. Mashed potatoes were good. Hush puppies were good. Son's stuffed grouper was basically grouper with sliced cheese and a little stuffing. Sides not impressive. My shrimp and grits was good, not great. Didn't require the sauce. And the pimento cheese grits not as good as hoped. The former Creekside cheese grits still the creamiest grits I've ever eaten. Hubs grilled shrimp arrived blackened. He liked the collards. The server now tells us someone else grabbed the steamed shrimp. It would take 20 minutes. For steamed shrimp?! One and done. If we're back in the area, we'll go elsewhere. read more

It is not lightly that I write any restaurant review, but especially this one. I never have written a review that has more less favorable remarks than positive, this is a difficult. After years of going to St Augustine Fish House, now Boat House (formerly Creekside) I finally have had enough of the rudeness from the management. Saturday morning, the manager chose to reign some of her wrath on me...In front of her staff and patrons, I was embarrassed by the manager and even more embarrassed for her and her total lack of professionalism. The manager went to the outdoor deck, in the 50* weather, to talk on her phone, not shutting the door behind her. A patron got up and closed the door, when the manager came back in she did not close the door behind her, again, another customer shut the door. The bar area had not warmed up since opening, it is a glassed area with high ceiling and little to no insulation. Everyone, staff and customers, had on their jackets to try to stay warm in this unseasonably cold Florida weather. After several ins and outs by the manager, I got up to close the door and called out to the manager to please close the door next time. THAT did NOT go over well, if looks could kill! The manager shouted at me that it was ADA code that the a door to the patio from the bar had to be open at all times. How was I or any other customer to know it was an ADA door? I pointed out that there were no patrons on the deck (because it was 50*) I was told that didn't matter. Well, that made no sense to me, so I looked that up. Nope, not code, I have attached what I found online. How many restaurants have you been in that leave a large patio door open year round? If it is an actual ADA code that is nation wide...can you see a restaurant with a deck facing Lake Michigan leaving a door open in January? If the restaurant doesn't have any other ADA doors, maybe the door should have a sticker stating it needs to be opened at all times during business hours? After shouting at me, the manager stormed inside the restaurant, minutes later the bar staff all disappeared, leaving the bar unattended for at least 5 minutes. When they returned, they all looked as if they had just been to the principal's office. The joy and friendly vibe was instantly gone from the room. Not the best example as a team leader. If you want to site codes, the doors opening onto the deck are supposed to have air curtains/mechanical antibug devises above them, not present. Also, keeping on the ADA track, the disabled parking spaces are supposed to have sign with the universal symbol for disabled parking on posts/fence 60 inches from the ground, in front of the designated area, not just faded blue lines painted on the concrete, no signs present. I realize that the $5,000-7,000 my husband, our guests and I spend at the Boat House yearly is just a drop in their big and growing franchise bucket, but the bartenders and servers that we treat kindly and respectfully may miss us as well as the 30-35% tip. This place is a good dinner spot to take a family or a date to. The inside felt like the inside of a farmhouse, clean and a high open ceiling. They also had plenty of seating outdoors on the deck. One complaint is the parking. When we arrived, it had almost felt that cars were everywhere and not in any uniform area so it was a little tricky to parking. The staff were friendly and helpful. Another complaint: We had made reservations for 2 at 7:00 PM one night but didn't end up being seating until 30 mins later. What's the point of the reservation then? Let's talk about the food. First, we ordered a dozen fresh oysters. Fresh, a little gritty but still served properly. I don't understand the lettuce garnish on the plate. Not really all that necessary. The next thing was the pick 2 seafood dish. I chose scallops and trigger fish (flame grilled) with bacon collard greens and rustic mashed potatoes. I never had trigger fish before so this was my first time. Tons of flavor, and was not overdone so the fish stayed pretty in tact. Same with the scallops. Cooked well and wasn't rubbery. The mashed potatoes seemed a little dry to me and the collard greens tasted bland too. Not the best, but not the worst either. The next one is the stuffed grouper with pimento cheese grits and corn. The dish was alright. The stuffing was great, but the fish was a little tough. I definitely enjoyed the cheese grits, the corn on the cob was a bit spicy, probably came from a seafood boil or something. They should note that on the menu. Overall, the experience was okay. Just okay. Ambiance and staff was great. Food was just okay. I just don't under the idea of garnishing every plate with lettuce/arugula/spinach for. Would I go back? Probably once more to give it another try, but not another time after that. read more

It was our waiters first night - that I can forgive. Waiting over an hour for my dinner (beet salad with chicken) sucked. When I came the chicken tasted boiled and the tomatoes were bitter. My wife's scallops didn't taste fresh. There are SO many better places - don't give this place your time or money! The restaurant posted a response. I had the lobster roll; the lobster was fishy and it was too drenched with butter. I should have stopped after the first bite but the kitty on the deck appreciated the fishiness of the lobster. The place was packed and he made a reservation for our party. We were sat along side the window and I immediately noticed the dead flies. The place was packed and I didn't feel like waiting for another table so I didn't say anything. I was truly looking forward to a delicious meal and outstanding oysters. To my surprise the calamari was over cooked. We sent it back and the waiter returned with a new and took it off the menu. My sons hamburger was dry, my oysters didn't taste right, and my husband's fish was over cooked. However, my daughter's lobster roll was good and the service was good. We had an absolutely amazing brunch visit! Myself, my fiancé and 1 year old went for brunch on a Sunday at 10:30. We made a reservation because we weren't sure if it would be super busy and we had never been. It was not super busy but by the time we left it was much busier. Main points: Food was excellent, ambiance was lovely, service was quick and personable (Mary was our server and did a wonderful job), but the reservation system and hostess interaction was horrendous--the only reason this isn't a 5 star rating. To preface, we came for dinner on New Year's Eve and anticipated it being a bit nuts. However, their reservation system/host staff needs some serious review. We called on December 30th to make a reservation for the next day. The woman on the phone booked us for dinner and sent an email confirmation. To be fair, we did not check the email until the next morning, but when we did we discovered that the reservation had been made for the evening of December 30th instead of 31st...? We quickly went on the restaurant's website to book a reservation for the afternoon of the 31st since they weren't open for the day yet, but wanted something later if it opened up. When they opened we called and asked to be moved to a dinner time, which they were able to do easily. I double and triple checked the email confirmation for the correct date and time...all good! We show up at 6:15 and tell the hostess "Hi, we're here for our reservation for 2" and give our name. She then said it would be about a 30 minute wait "due to the servers," which we took to mean there was some sort of staffing issue due to the new year. Not a problem, we work at a restaurant and understand things happen. She then said "we'll send a text to the number we have on file for you when your table is ready." Great. We go outside and wait for a text. 30 minutes later we notice several people have gone inside, waited outside with us, and gone in for their tables. So we check in with them about how much longer it will be. The hostess says she has absolutely no record of who we are or when we checked in. She then tells us it will be about another 10 minutes before we get seated, but takes another number for us and sends a text right away notifying us that we are on the waitlist. Fine, we're here and if we try to go anywhere else on New Year's Eve we'll be waiting another hour at minimum. 10 minutes goes by. Then another 5. We notice, again, that several parties have been seated before us. We go inside to wait right in front of the hostess stand and she's nowhere to be found for another 5 minutes. Finally someone else comes up and we ask how much longer it will be. He asks for our name and apparently it says it will be another 8 minutes. At this point, we have waited an hour past our original reservation time. As we inform him of this, the original hostess comes back and once again asks who we are. Thankfully, she says she can seat us inside right away. We finally sit down at a table at about 7:20pm when our original reservation was for 6:15pm. Clearly when we checked in the first time the hostess saw our name in the system as a reservation, otherwise she wouldn't have said "we'll send a text to the number we have on file for you," so we're not sure how we got removed after that. Having to wait at all after the initial 30 minutes was unacceptable, especially since we saw several parties get seated before us. The rest of the evening went very smoothly and quickly. Mary was an incredible server and was such a joy, we felt great empathy for her and the rest of the team who were most likely dealing with a staff shortage due to the holiday! And the food truly was excellent. We would love to try coming again NOT during the holiday season. read more

I got the pick 2 mahi mahi and grouper and it wasn't necessarily the freshest fish I've ever had but it will still very tasty.
