This was our first time here, and we were very impressed! We enjoyed both the delicious food and the beautiful outdoor view--made even more memorable by a special visit from a baby gator. Everything tasted fresh, and the shrimp were huge. The calamari was absolutely delicious and quickly became one of our favorites. Very cool spot with a long dock where you can take a walk and often spot gators floating along the water. Being right on the St. Johns River gives the place a unique atmosphere, and it was fun watching both regular boats and airboats pass by throughout our visit. The outdoor seating area was especially enjoyable and made for a relaxing setting. The food was okay, but nothing particularly memorable, and the drinks seemed a bit overpriced for what you get. That said, the waterfront views and overall ambiance are the main attractions here. If you're already in the area, it's a nice place to stop for a meal or a drink and enjoy the scenery. However, I wouldn't recommend going significantly out of your way just to visit. Overall, it's a good spot with a great location, but the food and drinks don't quite live up to the setting. read more

Oh my gosh!! I can't say enough good stuff about this restaurant. It's a bit of a drive from downtown St. Augustine, but worth every single minute. First, the restaurant overlooks a beautiful black water creek. There are docks and puh-lenty of parking for your boat and dozens more!! We were warmly greeted at the door and were seated waterfront on the deck as requested. Our server was Sherry, and she was excellent! She was patient, attentive, generous, kind, and gave excellent advice regarding the menu offerings. I ordered a lychee martini and only wish I could have had another. It was really, really good! Just a hint of lychees with a bit of ginger liquor... excellent craft cocktail!! My husband and I shared an entree. I had blackened trigger fish, and he had the fried shrimp. Out sides were corn on the cob and pimento cheese grits. Those grits!!! OMG!! As a G.R.I.T.S. (Girl raised in the South) I can honestly say I've never had better!! The portions were very generous, and the cornbread comes loaded with a scoop of homemade whipped honey butter. Heavenly!! Way off the beaten path from where we were staying but the menu sounded amazing so off we headed. Drove for miles and miles it seamed. I was amazed we were still in St. Augustine but this was definitely worth the drive. Bonus for us Wednesday is 75 cent oysters! YIPPEE! We were famished and way over ordered but this was our last meal out on the last day of or honeymoon so we got all the goods! one dozen raw, one dozen steamed, conch fritters (the only think that was horrible, Mama Shaw needs to ditch that recipe and try again) Fried oyster platter, Steak tip bites, sides of yellow rice casserole, which was just yellow rice and Datil creamed corn casserole which was too sweet for me but great concept. I hadn't been to Outback Crabshack in over a decade since moving out of state. I was excited to hear they reopened and the new team did not disappoint. The deck overlooking the water was gorgeous, everything was shiny and new. I came on a Monday and unfortunately the snow crabs didn't arrive in their shipment that day. So I opted for the king crab despite the very high market price. It was absolutely delicious and the butter dip was perfect. Service was friendly and they were on top of all of our needs. I was there Saturday and I've been here 4x in 2 years. Everytime I go i get subpar service. I had to wait over an hour for a table then wait about 15-20 minutes for a drink the 3 times I asked. Why do I get stuck with horrid servers there. Anytime anyone mentions Outback Crabshack I will talk them out of going there. I honestly don't even know where to start with this review. What began as a normal dinner out turned into one of the most disappointing (and frankly disturbing) dining experiences I've ever had. We came here to celebrate my 18-year-old's birthday, hoping for a nice dinner and a special evening with family. At first, everything seemed fine. We were seated, drinks came out, and our appetizer arrived without any issues, so we expected the rest of the meal to follow shortly after. Unfortunately, that's where things completely fell apart. After finishing our appetizer, we waited... and waited... and waited. A full hour and a half went by and our food still had not arrived. No real explanation, no meaningful updates, and by that point the table was already frustrated and hungry. But what happened next pushed the entire situation from frustrating to completely unacceptable. While we were still sitting there waiting for food, a member of a group of boys at another table decided it was perfectly appropriate to walk over to the edge of the deck and urinate off the side in front of everyone. This wasn't hidden or discreet -- it happened in plain view of the entire dining area. To make it even worse, we had children at our table, including the birthday we were there to celebrate, who witnessed it. I immediately told our server what had just happened, expecting some level of concern or action. Her response was simply "oh okay." That was it. No apology, no attempt to address the situation, no manager coming over -- nothing. At that point, the experience went from poor service to a completely uncomfortable and inappropriate environment. No family celebrating a birthday should have to deal with something like that during what's supposed to be a special night out. Between the hour-and-a-half wait for food, the inappropriate behavior happening right in front of diners, and the completely dismissive response when it was reported, the entire evening was ruined. Extremely disappointing and definitely not an experience I'd ever want to repeat. read more

First time here since they reopened. The atmosphere is great- came on a beautiful Sunday afternoon when they had live music. Made a reservation for a table outside on the patio as it fills up quickly. The service was decent- our waitress was quick to fix an error with our kids food order. Had a large menu of both food and drinks. We ordered a few appetizers with our group (corn nuggets, edamame, oysters). For entrees, we all had a little something different: burgers, fish sandwich, ahi tuna, kids butter noodles, chicken strips). It's a little pricey but the portion sizes were good and we had leftovers. The kids enjoyed walking along the dock and seeing the boats. We stopped in at Outback Crab Shack on our way into St Augustine. It's a great location right on the river with nice views and lots of space for groups. The service was friendly, but a little slow at times. We tried a lot of different food, and the highlights were the lobster roll, the fried shrimp, and cornbread. A few days ago, my family tried Outback Crab Shack for the first time after hearing so much about it. I have to say, this place is an absolute gem! The food was bomb, and everything lived up to the hype. The only thing I'd change is the seating in regards to the booths. They could definitely be a bit more spacious. The tall men in our group had a hard time fitting their knees under the table, so if you're extra tall or extra plump, I'd recommend sitting outside. The service was great, and our waiter was really attentive. The swings at the bar added such a fun, unique touch to the outdoor area. The view of the water was beautiful too, and next time I come, I'll definitely sit outside to enjoy it fully. Outback Crab Shack is owned by the same folks who run Julington Fish House and Oyster Company (which I go to way too often), so I already knew I'd love their fried shrimp. I can confirm they're still the best in the Jacksonville area in my opinion. And if you know me, you know I'm a sucker for truffle fries... these did not disappoint! Tonight was our first visit back since hurricanes totaled the facility, was very disappointed. Ambiance is great, service was fine. Somehow there was a mix up in our order, but when it arrived, the fries were cold and old. It was returned and we opted for a different selection. Again, fries were served cold and old, catfish was hot and tasty. My PEI mussels were so spicy I could not eat them, and served with no broth or bread. I was astounded at the $11 per glass for a short pour of house Chardonnay, very overpriced. Management did make it right, but not sure we would return. We visited for lunch on Tuesday. Service was great, crab soup was amazing. However I strongly suggest you retrain your bartenders. As we sat inside, I had a clear view of the outside bar. The bartender was making what looked like fruity drinks. He poured the drinks and proceeded to pick up several pieces of fruit from the bin WITH HIS BARE HANDS and place in the drinks. No tongs were used. A piece of fruit dropped on the bar and he picked it up - with his hands - and put it in the customers drink. This is disgusting. I watched as he fixed several other drinks - same process, bare hands and never once did he wash his hands - and he handled customer payments and money all why fixing these drinks. DO BETTER. This is a health department violation not to mention just poor hygiene. The gentleman was tall, stocky, dark hair with facial hair. Please retrain!! read more

Very disappointing experience. The restaurant's posted hours online say they're open until 12:00 AM, but apparently they actually close at 10:00 PM. We arrived around 9:00 PM expecting plenty of time to enjoy our meal based on the advertised hours. To make matters worse, at approximately 10:15 PM, the manager turned the lights off on us while we were still outside waiting after asking for our checks. It felt incredibly rude and unprofessional. If the hours have changed, they should be updated online so customers aren't misled. The manager's attitude throughout the situation was disrespectful, and unfortunately I didn't get his name. Between the inaccurate hours and poor customer service, this experience left a bad impression. We won't be returning. read more

Driving up to the restaurant, we saw a very long line of parked cars and thought. Wow! If these cars are for customers, this place must be really good. We were able to find a spot to park on the lot and the hostess told us, yes, they are customers. She said the wait would be 45 minutes, so we sat at the bar and got beers and appetizers. Our beer tenders, Jesse and Steven were great. They were very busy all evening, but were attentive, friendly and got our orders taken quickly. It did take a bit to get the first of four appetizers we ordered, but the atmosphere is good and we were enjoying 2 local beers. We ordered the ahi tuna appetizer which was really good with a tasty wasabi sauce We also ordered the hush puppies with jam, which were very good along with some edamame and shrimp pot stickers. It was raining so we didn't get to take pictures of the patio but it looked so fun and a great hangout spot for boaters on a hot day! Service was fantastic and the food was delicious! We cannot thank Outback Crabshack enough for hosting our kids wedding rehearsal dinner. The service Starla and Caleb provided was beyond phenomenal. We ordered from the menu and also had 25 boils. After all these years, Outback Crab Shack is back open! I'm so glad to see it. I'm going to start with the bad. Parking. It's a mess. Fortunately, there is a lot down the street a little that offers spots and shuttle parking (for a small price), but the whole thing is pretty rough. If you have a boat that's probably the best way to go. We sat at the bar because I desperately wanted to try out the swing seat. They are the cutest! Food was really good. It's really just the thing for some waterfront dining. All of the renovations look really nice and I think it will grow into an awesome staple for the area. read more

Update.... We go to OB crab shack once or twice a month and usually it is mostly good. We went on Tuesday for lunch and it was not crowded. Service was just ok. Grouper was decent but the mahi was overcooked and old. They told the waitress and not so much as a "I'm sorry". Also the cornbread was very stale and unedible. We will be taking OB off the rotation. For the prices charged the food should be more consistent and when a mistake is made it should be acknowledged and dealt with. read more

We celebrated a birthday there and the staff was so helpful! They offered to keep the cake we brought in the back until we were ready. They cleared the table and brought new silverware and plates before bringing the cake. Everyone was so friendly. Our food took a little longer, but it was worth it and we didn't mind since the the atmosphere outside was so nice. The band they had on March 22 was amazing! We loved it! It sits on Six Mile Creek off of the St. John's River and has a great outdoor deck. The ambiance and vibe are ideal and relaxing. The menu has about twenty appetizers, two soups, four salads, several sandwiches, steamed seafood, and about ten entrees. I decided to go with the lobster roll and I think it was the best one I have ever had. Plenty of lobster meat came on a toasted bun, along with a small cup of melted butter. I poured the melted butter over the lobster and the sandwich was absolutely delicious. The sandwich was also accompanied by French fries. Service was good from Jeana. What an amazing find!!! My friend and I were heading down the road in search of bbq, but pulled a u-turn when we saw this charming restaurant on a small St John's tributary, complete with tie-up dock-boardwalk. First time for both of us, so we decided to order salted edamame to start, and then shared excellent brussels sprouts with balsamic, sausage & added 5 large scallops on top. My friend said they were cooked to perfection, not overdone; same with the sprouts cooked crisp tender. We also added the beef kabobs, grilled tender medium rare as we ordered, with the best chimichurri I've ever eaten. I know we over ordered but everything was so delicious! We had a yummy side of sweet datil corn casserole so different from what we expected, and coconut shrimp. Rarely have I found a place that uses big tender shrimp and makes their own coating! Our fabulous waitress Sarah knew the ingredients they used! she said she also tends bar, and I know I have other friends who love the outdoor bar with swings for excellent cocktails and appetizers. We can't wait to go back with our husbands!!! Soon! The party next to us was friendly and even offered a shot of Crown, but I was the driver and stuck to tea.
