I finally tried Outback Crab Shack and enjoyed it. Fresh, quality seafood with excellent friendly service (thanks Ashley). I look forward to returning again and again. The restaurant needs a sign on SR13, as it is easy to pass. I arrived on a Tuesday afternoon to a nearly full parking lot. Interestingly, there were very few folks there. They should expand the parking lot. I can't imagine finding parking during busy periods. The restaurant was large and nautically decorated, but not tacky. Outdoor deck was a nice size, with overhead fans that minimized the heat. Dining area and ladies' restroom were clean. Service was friendly, efficient, and enjoyable. As soon as I entered, I was greeted. Shortly thereafter, I was shown to a table, told the specials, and given time to place an order. The calamari dish was excellent -- dare I say better than Julington Creek. The Tuesday 20-Piece Shrimp Dinner w/ One Side ($19.99) was a great deal. Shrimp were served piping hot with tarter sauce, sweet chili sauce, and bang bang sauce. Shrimp Shack uses better seasoning on their fried shrimp. But Outback Crab Shack shrimp are huge; taste fresher; and can be served grilled, blackened, or fried. Another local favorite that a local contractor requested lunch at. Since we met early we beat the crowd but they were rolling in as we left. Menu wasn't too complicated and the fish sandwich is highly recommended so we all went with the same thing. Sandwiches is on a potato bun which makes it nice. The pickles added a nice spin to the tomato and I added some tartar sauce. Everything was tasty. Oh my gosh!! I can't say enough good stuff about this restaurant. It's a bit of a drive from downtown St. Augustine, but worth every single minute. First, the restaurant overlooks a beautiful black water creek. There are docks and puh-lenty of parking for your boat and dozens more!! We were warmly greeted at the door and were seated waterfront on the deck as requested. Our server was Sherry, and she was excellent! She was patient, attentive, generous, kind, and gave excellent advice regarding the menu offerings. I ordered a lychee martini and only wish I could have had another. It was really, really good! Just a hint of lychees with a bit of ginger liquor... excellent craft cocktail!! My husband and I shared an entree. I had blackened trigger fish, and he had the fried shrimp. I hadn't been to Outback Crabshack in over a decade since moving out of state. I was excited to hear they reopened and the new team did not disappoint. The deck overlooking the water was gorgeous, everything was shiny and new. I came on a Monday and unfortunately the snow crabs didn't arrive in their shipment that day. So I opted for the king crab despite the very high market price. It was absolutely delicious and the butter dip was perfect. Service was friendly and they were on top of all of our needs. A few days ago, my family tried Outback Crab Shack for the first time after hearing so much about it. I have to say, this place is an absolute gem! The food was bomb, and everything lived up to the hype. The only thing I'd change is the seating in regards to the booths. They could definitely be a bit more spacious. The tall men in our group had a hard time fitting their knees under the table, so if you're extra tall or extra plump, I'd recommend sitting outside. The service was great, and our waiter was really attentive. The swings at the bar added such a fun, unique touch to the outdoor area. The view of the water was beautiful too, and next time I come, I'll definitely sit outside to enjoy it fully. Outback Crab Shack is owned by the same folks who run Julington Fish House and Oyster Company (which I go to way too often), so I already knew I'd love their fried shrimp. I can confirm they're still the best in the Jacksonville area in my opinion. And if you know me, you know I'm a sucker for truffle fries... these did not disappoint! Way off the beaten path from where we were staying but the menu sounded amazing so off we headed. Drove for miles and miles it seamed. I was amazed we were still in St. Augustine but this was definitely worth the drive. Bonus for us Wednesday is 75 cent oysters! YIPPEE! We were famished and way over ordered but this was our last meal out on the last day of or honeymoon so we got all the goods! one dozen raw, one dozen steamed, conch fritters (the only think that was horrible, Mama Shaw needs to ditch that recipe and try again) Fried oyster platter, Steak tip bites, sides of yellow rice casserole, which was just yellow rice and Datil creamed corn casserole which was too sweet for me but great concept. I honestly don't even know where to start with this review. What began as a normal dinner out turned into one of the most disappointing (and frankly disturbing) dining experiences I've ever had. We came here to celebrate my 18-year-old's birthday, hoping for a nice dinner and a special evening with family. At first, everything seemed fine. We were seated, drinks came out, and our appetizer arrived without any issues, so we expected the rest of the meal to follow shortly after. Unfortunately, that's where things completely fell apart. After finishing our appetizer, we waited... and waited... and waited. A full hour and a half went by and our food still had not arrived. No real explanation, no meaningful updates, and by that point the table was already frustrated and hungry. But what happened next pushed the entire situation from frustrating to completely unacceptable. While we were still sitting there waiting for food, a member of a group of boys at another table decided it was perfectly appropriate to walk over to the edge of the deck and urinate off the side in front of everyone. This wasn't hidden or discreet -- it happened in plain view of the entire dining area. To make it even worse, we had children at our table, including the birthday we were there to celebrate, who witnessed it. I immediately told our server what had just happened, expecting some level of concern or action. Her response was simply "oh okay." That was it. No apology, no attempt to address the situation, no manager coming over -- nothing. At that point, the experience went from poor service to a completely uncomfortable and inappropriate environment. No family celebrating a birthday should have to deal with something like that during what's supposed to be a special night out. Between the hour-and-a-half wait for food, the inappropriate behavior happening right in front of diners, and the completely dismissive response when it was reported, the entire evening was ruined. Made a reservation for a table outside on the patio as it fills up quickly. The service was decent- our waitress was quick to fix an error with our kids food order. Had a large menu of both food and drinks. We ordered a few appetizers with our group (corn nuggets, edamame, oysters). For entrees, we all had a little something different: burgers, fish sandwich, ahi tuna, kids butter noodles, chicken strips). It's a little pricey but the portion sizes were good and we had leftovers. The kids enjoyed walking along the dock and seeing the boats. Very cool spot with a long dock where you can take a walk and often spot gators floating along the water. Being right on the St. Johns River gives the place a unique atmosphere, and it was fun watching both regular boats and airboats pass by throughout our visit. The outdoor seating area was especially enjoyable and made for a relaxing setting. The food was okay, but nothing particularly memorable, and the drinks seemed a bit overpriced for what you get. That said, the waterfront views and overall ambiance are the main attractions here. If you're already in the area, it's a nice place to stop for a meal or a drink and enjoy the scenery. However, I wouldn't recommend going significantly out of your way just to visit. Driving up to the restaurant, we saw a very long line of parked cars and thought. Wow! If these cars are for customers, this place must be really good. We were able to find a spot to park on the lot and the hostess told us, yes, they are customers. She said the wait would be 45 minutes, so we sat at the bar and got beers and appetizers. Our beer tenders, Jesse and Steven were great. They were very busy all evening, but were attentive, friendly and got our orders taken quickly. It did take a bit to get the first of four appetizers we ordered, but the atmosphere is good and we were enjoying 2 local beers. We ordered the ahi tuna appetizer which was really good with a tasty wasabi sauce We also ordered the hush puppies with jam, which were very good along with some edamame and shrimp pot stickers. We visited for lunch on Tuesday. Service was great, crab soup was amazing. However I strongly suggest you retrain your bartenders. As we sat inside, I had a clear view of the outside bar. The bartender was making what looked like fruity drinks. He poured the drinks and proceeded to pick up several pieces of fruit from the bin WITH HIS BARE HANDS and place in the drinks. No tongs were used. A piece of fruit dropped on the bar and he picked it up - with his hands - and put it in the customers drink. This is disgusting. I watched as he fixed several other drinks - same process, bare hands and never once did he wash his hands - and he handled customer payments and money all why fixing these drinks. DO BETTER. I was at Outback Crab Shack on Sept 20 and wasn't going to say anything about the mediocre meal and the worst oysters I have ever had in my life. I wish I had taken a picture of them, as they were disgusting and I only able to eat 2 of the dozen. I am 74 and have been eating them all my life, so I know what good oysters look and taste life. But what really prompted me to write this was the encounter I had with 2 of your employees as I was trying to leave. I parked in the only space available which was in a vertical space on the side of the building. I saw that I was blocked in and asked one of the employees entering the back of the building if he knew who owned the car if he could ask them to move so I could leave. Shortly after 2 men emerged from the back door. I stated that he was being rude by blocking me in and I asked him to move his car. After screaming at me and telling me that space was for employees and that I was fxxxing stupid for parking there, as he continued to scream at me and tell me that since there was no payment and it was gravel space, I should have known it was not available for parking, although there were 7-8 cars already there. I told him the space was not marked for employees only and there was no way for me to know. Again, calling me an idiot and fxxxing stupid. He continued to yell at me calling me an entitled idiot and needed to take my red Mercedes and leave. Which is exactly what I was trying to do, but he would not move. Then I asked the other employee if he could ask him to move so I could leave and he said that was his boss and that I 'needed to go back up north where I belonged'. I have never felt so verbally attacked and intimidated in my life. I am elderly, I was alone and trapped in a space that I could not leave because your employees were holding my hostage. That is a strong word, but that's how I felt during the encounter because he would not just get in his car and move. After I screamed at them and told them I was going to call the police and report that I was being held against my will, he finally got in his car and move. I'm not sure that I have ever felt so threatened and unsafe. The man was driving a silver Honda coup and appeared looked to be of oriental decent. The other man was older, about 5'7', and overweight, white. Needless to say, I will never return due to the intimidation I received. I would appreciate a response. It's a nice chill locals spot. The crab cakes are bomb and so is their creamed corn casserole. The Brussels sprouts are pretty good. I would not recommend the lobster roll. Ended up back here for a date night. Full bar, so that's a bonus. Red Sangria is on the sweet side. Clean linen is pretty good if you like gin, make it a double and it's less sweet with the perfect amount of tartness. Nice sitting outside near the water, they have the tvs on and heat lamps if needed. Service inside is definitely better than outside at the bar. read more

Fortunately, there is a lot down the street a little that offers spots and shuttle parking (for a small price), but the whole thing is pretty rough. If you have a boat that's probably the best way to go. We sat at the bar because I desperately wanted to try out the swing seat. They are the cutest! Food was really good. My wife and I rediscovered this local jewel this evening. We arrived for an early dinner and had our pick of tables. The restaurant is set on Six Mile Creek. They have a very large deck and a large bar on the deck. That said my wife and I dined inside as the wind was howling and it was very hot. We had a booth with a view of the deck and the trees surrounding the restaurant. We started with the conch fritters which were delicious. The remoulade sauce was also on point. We had questions about the yellow rice casserole and our server Micah was kind enough to bring us each a sample. It was so good my wife included it as a side with her dinner. We both ordered the platter with 2 options, my wife had the grilled mahi and scallops and I had the grilled grouper with scallops. I cannot do justice in words how good our meals were. I had the bacon collared greens which were delicious. Our experience was enhanced by our server Micah. He was attentive, engaging and patient. He is well suited for his endeavors. Grouper was decent but the mahi was overcooked and old. They told the waitress and not so much as a "I'm sorry". Also the cornbread was very stale and unedible. We will be taking OB off the rotation. For the prices charged the food should be more consistent and when a mistake is made it should be acknowledged and dealt with. read more

My wife and I have been frequent customers of the Outback Crab Shack for 13 years. We were coming before the Hurricane destroyed the previous restaurant. Have always had good food and service. Not this evening. We arrived and when we walked in, stood in front of the hostess stand for several minutes without the 3 young girls and 1 young boy behind the stand ever acknowledging us. Another party of 4 walked in and walked directly around us. The boy behind the stand asked them how many and immediately took them to a booth. We're still standing there without an acknowledgment. I said, "I've been standing right here. Hello?" One of the girls then asked how many and another girl then said follow me. Still, no acknowledgement, no apologies, nothing. Sat down and now, another wait. Not sure how long and was probably not as long as my frustration made it feel before our server finally took our drink order. It didn't get any better. My wife's clams were so overcooked that they weren't worth eating. My trigger fish though...OUTSTANDING! Best part of the meal. My glass remained empty most of the meal. Tonight was our first visit back since hurricanes totaled the facility, was very disappointed. Ambiance is great, service was fine. Somehow there was a mix up in our order, but when it arrived, the fries were cold and old. It was returned and we opted for a different selection. Again, fries were served cold and old, catfish was hot and tasty. My PEI mussels were so spicy I could not eat them, and served with no broth or bread. I was astounded at the $11 per glass for a short pour of house Chardonnay, very overpriced. Management did make it right, but not sure we would return.
