This was a pretty neat Italian restaurant but there wasn't noting over the top about it. Its service was friendly and polite but noting that would make you remember it. I ordered Chicken Marcela and my wife order lasagna. Both were pretty good but definitely not the best we have ever had . The atmosphere was a bit crowded and loud. It definitely wasn't very romantic. I will say that the Wood Stone Pizza really looked like the star of the show and we should have gotten it. We talked to multiple customers and they all said pizza was fantastic. So honestly we probably just ordered the wrong thing. It's like going to a steak house and ordering chicken! Just don't do it. This cozy yet upbeat Italian place is a complete vibe with top notch eats. Bar service was on point, plate delivery was well-timed, and portions were more than plenty! We started with the trio of meatballs and asked for a side of ricotta - a divine starter. I ordered a side Caesar salad and we shared a pepperoni pizza. I'm not usually a fan of wood-fired pizza but this pie was one of the best I've ever had. On a whim, we decided to try Simone's Wood Fired Craft Kitchen on a Friday evening. My mistake for not making a reservation, but we put our name on the wait list. The 25-minute wait was absolutely worth it. Having lived in the Northeast, I have pretty high standards for pizza--and until now, I hadn't found a place in Saint Augustine that measured up. Simone's changed that. I don't know why I waited so long to come here! The atmosphere was warm and cozy, with seasonal Halloween and fall decorations adding to the charm. The lighting was dim, but from our table you could see the massive wood-fired oven glowing in the back--it was mesmerizing. We were seated at a two-top, though I admit I wished for a little more space once the food started rolling in. We began with the Meatball Appetizer. The meatballs were a generous size, bathed in a rich marinara (almost like a tomato gravy). Delicious. Then came the Insalata Simone--take my advice and order it. Even the small size could easily feed three people. The homemade white balsamic dressing was so incredible that we bought a pint to take home. And then...the star of the night...the Margherita Pizza. All I can say is WOW. The crust was thin and crispy, the sauce bright and flavorful, and the cheese balanced just right. It was pizza perfection--hands down the best I've had in Florida. Simone's Wood Fired Craft Kitchen has officially ruined me for other Italian restaurants in the area. This is my new go-to. I was driving home from Orlando and my husband suggested that we meet at this restaurant in the St. Augustine area. I am glad he did because it was a great decision. The restaurant is located in a small strip shopping center and has indoor, outdoor and bar seating. We were quickly seated when we arrived at 5:30. By the time we left there was a line of about ten people waiting to be seated. Our server, Jacob, quickly came over to take our drink orders. The menu offers appetizers, salads, pizzas and pasta dishes. We opted for the Insalata Simone. It had greens, olives, carrots, onions, cauliflower, and croutons with a while balsamic vinaigrette dressing. My husband and I split the large version and it was just the right size and very tasty. We also got the Toscana pizza . It had sausage, onions, mozzarella and ricotta cheese. It came with six slices of good tasting pizza. For dessert we ordered a regular and a chocolate chip cannoli. This is the kind of place every neighborhood should have - a trendy Italian spot with wonderful food, great service, and reasonable prices. We stopped by on a weeknight for the pizza and a salad - both were excellent. They do offer different weekday specials each day of the week. Service from Jacob was top notch. The restaurant is open and bright and well decorated. The cannoli was a great way to end the meal. Pricing all-in averaged under $35 per person - they do have lots of creative Italian dishes, so I'll certainly be back to give some of those a try. I highly recommend this one read more

Overall a good experience. We got there early, before the crowd and were seated immediately. Our waiter, Mica, and an associate,Sam, attended to us. They took time to explain the restaurant and shared the specials. Love the craft to table concept. We ordered the caprese salad as an appetizer. It was decent. Unfortunately, it really isn't tomato season here so it wasn't as good as it could be. For dinner, my wife got the mahi special. I got the shrimp diavolo. Both were good but a bit salty for our palate. Portions look small, but really have a lot to them. Before we were done, the restaurant was packed. Fully understand why so many come here. read more

The staff was friendly and attentive, although service was a little slower than expected during our visit. Overall, it was a great experience and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Service and ambiance are good. Food is NOT classic Italian. Chicken Marsala could have passed for an Asian dish it was so sweet. The bits of proscuitto couldn't cover up overly sweet sauce. Not classic with that and the spinach. Never again. The lasagna was okay. The tomato sauce was too strong and it overpowered the entire dish. Appreciated the fresh pasta though. The bread service was good, but at $8 was overpriced. Bread and an EVOO mix was tasty, but not worth that much. This is our second visit after disappointing pizza. I doubt we'll be back. read more

Really good brick oven pizza! Very tasty. We always opt to make our own and they offer lots of options. Have only ordered take out from here so can't speak to the dining experience but the restaurant itself looks very nice and we've always had someone greet us when we come in to pickup our order. We have eaten here many times but it is usually just for their pizza. Tonight we decided to celebrate a birthday with a full meal. We were seated immediately on a Tuesday night and found out that locals get 15% off their checks on Tuesdays. Michael was our server and he explained the specials and answered our questions. The food was spectacular. The pizza with the prosciutto and miele was sensational 10/10. The entrees were large portions so there were plenty of leftovers. I thought the short ribs and pappardelle was also a 10/10. My husband loves chicken parm so he thought it was great. I declined rating it because I do not care for chicken parm in general. The white chocolate bread pudding is magnificent. No matter how full you are, it slides down with the smoothest, most delicious flan like texture. It is not like any bread pudding I have ever had anywhere. It is a great hidden gem in a strip mall. The food is really the star and consistently good service. read more

We started with the freshly baked artisan bread basket with oregano and basil dipping oil. The Salsiccia Toscana Pizza (san marzano sauce, sweet and spicy tuscan sausages, balsamic onion confit-fresh mozzarella and ricotta cheese) was absolutely perfect! Service was exceptional! There is in fact a Simone (pronounced si-mo-nay) and you will often see her at the restaurant with an apron tied on working alongside everyone else. Everything is made in house, and the flavors are out of this world! We've tried just about everything on their menu, and it's all so good. Thoughtfully created and well balanced flavors with highest quality ingredients. Pizzas are next level, but so is the pasta! Theirs is a small kitchen, and with everything home made (even the salad dressing) it means that substitutions don't work. If you know you are someone who likes (or needs) to make adjustments, you should check the menu before going and make sure you're going to be ok with the food as is. They're not being mean, they're running a small business with a small kitchen. The service has been excellent every time we have ever gone, they do a very good job!! read more

When my sister and brother-in-law moved to St. Augustine from MD, we were exhausted and needed to eat. We stumbled across this restaurant and the rest is history. This has become our favorite restaurant of all time in this area. All food is made from scratch and each dish is better than the next. The wood fired pizza is epic!! One of our favorite dishes is their Chicken Marsala. Wow!! It's to die for!! Slivers of prosciutto, spinach, mushrooms and slices of expertly seared chicken atop a bed of homemade pasta. Once dinner is complete, you cannot leave without getting their bread pudding. Incredible!!! The place is smaller than most, but they accommodate you at the bar, or a table. Our server, Savannah, was lovely and attentive to our table. We ordered the truffle fries and I was not expecting for them to be the best I have ever had. The pizza was good, not my favorite, but the soft cauliflower crust made up for it..so hard to find a good gluten free crust and they nailed it. Disappointed After Year of Good Experiences I've been a loyal customer of Simone's for year, frequently bringing my grandchildren to enjoy their delicious gluten-free pizza, Calamari Fritti, and meatballs. My older grandkids especially love the Pollo E Campanelli Alla Pesto. Up until now, the food and service have always been excellent the wait staff attentive and the experience enjoyable. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was incredibly disappointing and will be our last. This time, the service was far below the standard we've come to expect. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed, juggling too many tables, and never once came to check on us while we were seated outside. The issue began when my 4-year-old granddaughter started screaming in distress that her mouth was burning after eating a meatball. I tasted it myself -- the sauce was fine, but the meatball was extremely spicy due to an overwhelming amount of pepper. We've ordered this dish many times and never had this issue. My 9-year-old also couldn't eat it. I politely asked the waiter not to charge us for the meatballs, as the kids couldn't eat them, but we were then left waiting another 20 minutes for the check with no return visit from the server and no water or ice offered for the child who was clearly in distress. When I finally went inside with the kids to pay, the manager told me she had tasted the meatballs herself and claimed they were "not spicy." She insisted that this is how they are always made, completely dismissing my concerns--even though we've ordered them many times before without any issue. She also informed me that I would be charged for the handful of chips that were on the plate with the meatballs, because the kids had eaten them while we Waited for 20 minutes about 10 chips on each plate. I explained that we had been waiting an unreasonable amount of time and that I was not going to pay for the chips. After some back and forth, she finally relented and removed the charge. It's disheartening to have such a long-standing positive relationship with a restaurant end this way. I rarely write negative reviews, but the way this situation was handled lacked both empathy and accountability. Sadly, we won't be returning. read more

Wow we enjoyed this place! We stopped at Buccees today and on the way back home decided to try something new. It's right next door to Woofs Bakery (another review!) and has an outdoor patio, serves alcohol and has a wood fired oven. Checks off all the boxes! We ordered two apps and a pizza to go. The apps came out really quickly, we got calamari and goat cheese bruschetta. Both were out of this world good! The calamari was really tender, the breading was flavorful and the pomodoro sauce was a great complement. My fave was the bruschetta, everything about it worked! Tonight we reheated the pizza, we got the e funghi and the crust is probably the best one I've had in a long time. I also thought the prices were really reasonable. OMG!!! First, I'm not big on pasta, and usually not a cream sauce guy either, but I couldn't pass up the Mahi, and am I glad that I didn't miss this. Best pasta I've ever had and I just got back from Venice (Italy). Yeah, that good, and pasta that is not in my wheelhouse. Daughters has shrimp scampi, and a pesto chicken, both were AMAZING. Meatball appetizer was also delicious. Pizzas also looked and smelled phenomenal!! DO NOT MISS this place!! Cozy, Italian kitchen, with extra patio seating, good for a nice date or casual dining. Arrived here about 7:00 PM on a recent Saturday evening, there were people waiting outside the entrance but I decided to check with the hostess to see what the wait time was going to be - it looked like at least 60 minutes so I gave her my cell number to the hostess and was told I did not need to remain onsite but would need to check in within 10 minutes after they send a text saying our table was ready. As soon as we agreed to this I noticed two open seats at the bar which was open seating so we decided to take them which eliminated the wait time entirely looks like this experience was starting out the right way. Once seated Ashli who was tending bar greeted us and offered ice water while dropping off the menus and taking our drink order. The service was friendly and attentive. Some have mentioned the difficulty in reading the menu the color scheme in low lighting makes it challenging, they really need to revisit this, as classy as they may appear they aren't very functional. We decided to start with fried calamari and peppers with marinara sauce, the calamari was crispy and tender and the peppers added just enough spicy this is definitely a great starter. We also order the 13" pizza with pepperoni and ground spicy sausage, the crust was incredible and the toppings although may have been a little sparse compared to most pizza restaurants this was gourmet and very creative and delicious - these two dishes were perfectly portioned for two and the ice cold Peroni draft and Pinot Grigio paired well. We just don't think the food is that good. We have gone twice, and probably won't be a third. We have tried the pizza but we like NY or CT style with a thin crust. We tried the lasagna and we like a fresher sauce that is not cooked too long and the chicken marsala was too sweet. It really is a taste thing, what we are used to from being raised in NY and being part of an Italian immigrant family. I really have not found any good Italian restaurants here in St Augustine. read more

The wife and I went on an impromptu date last night following a rough day and even rougher week. We went to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in the area. The only thing better than the food was the service and efforts by a very sweet young waitress. She made us (and every table she cared for) feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. Our glasses never empty, our plates cleared before we even realized and she brought everything we could need before we we even realized we needed it. She was non-stop. What made it even more impressive is she was at least 6 months pregnant. Never slowed her down. Such an impressive young woman who loves serving and her job. What a great representative for Simone's (Italian Restaurant) Wood Fired Craft Kitchen. We briefly spoke with her and she genuinely loves where she works and who she works for. She bragged on the family that owns the place and diverted any attention from herself to the restaurant and other workers. A truly humble servant. If you go to Simone's, ask for Michelle S. Awesome Gem of a restaurant. I am new to the state and after signing up at the YMCA across from the restaurant, my two daughters and I were hungry. Came in was seated instantly. Our waiter was Micah I believe (don't quote me) nonetheless he was very kind, and attentive from drinks, to appetizers, to food service. He definitely nailed good customer service! Inside was spacious, roomy, and well lit. Plenty of high chairs if one was needed. Restaurant was clean. Wine was good. Prices were great for Quality & Taste! This is a great place! We live not too far away but haven't been here before. Absolutely the best calamari and pizza (the only dishes we had) in St Augustine , excellent service, nice modern bistro atmosphere. The things we didn't have but saw other people eating - such as the lasagna - looked great too. We're from new you're so we know good modern Italian! Crust was great! Sat at the bar early on a Saturday night. Place was full and met some people who eat here every week. Bartender was very attentive and friendly. Wine list by the glass and bottle was typical for this area (meanjng pretty weak and not a great selection). Bottle prices looked ok and so did the glass prices but the pours were metered and tiny. I ordered a jaialai beer instead and was told it was 12 oz. Ok sure it's 7.6 but I10 came in a proper pint at 6.7 pct I ended up with a Malbec (pretty light one sadly) then ordered an i10 once the food came. Lasagna was good with lots of sauce and the sausage pizza was nice but the Mediterranean looked much better (I ordered poorly). No bread served which would have been nice with all of that sauce. All in all a decent place to go but the small things bother me so we won't put this on the weekly rotation. read more

I was here a couple of months ago. We ordered the steak special and the fish special. Both were outstanding. So tonight we decided to order from their traditional Italian selections. Chicken parmigiana and a pizza. I must say I was highly dissatisfied with items for different reasons. I order prosciutto on the pizza which caused everything to be too salty. That was my fault. The chicken parmigiana however arrived and the sauce was watery, extremely hot and quite honestly under seasoned. The chicken was overcooked as well. They have a small patio area for outdoor dining. Inside they have a beautiful bar area - appears to offer just beer/wine/sangria, although I didn't ask. Inside was a fresh smart vibe. I was hesitant for a moment to bring my gaggle of children in. But the staff was super friendly and accommodating. We were quickly put at ease. If it were a busier time or they were feeling a little unruly I would have probably sat outside. The kitchen is an open style with two impressive wood burning ovens. We picked the Salsiccia Toscana Pizza. Meaty with a balsamic onion confit The flavor was fantastic. The soup of the day was a zucchini and sausage light tomato base. Really quite delightful. They let us sample before deciding. I pair the soup with half a panini. Basically a pressed pesto chicken sandwich. Tasty. The kids picked the pasta Alfredo. I was very impressed with the portion size, sauce quality, and legit pasta. And I cannot skip mentioning the FRESH baked bread. It really made everything twice enjoyable.
