My wife and I were pretty disappointed with the food that we had. She ordered the brisket meal. The brisket was barely warm and didn't even appear to be smoked, it was over cooked. It didn't look appetizing at all. The cornbread that came with it crumbled when we tried to grab it. It was very dry and had hardly any flavor. My tri-tip was also over cooked and was lacking flavor. We loved the Blue Pig!!!! Of course bar b que is our thing! I had pulled pork and hush puppies with the Kansas City sauce! So good -- tender meat and great sauce . We went to Spitfire and was greeted by a group smoking out front who blocked the door. Turned out to be the bartender. After sitting at a table for a while we left and I'm so glad we did. The second we walked into Blu we were greeted by the staff and given menus. We had drinks in less then 5 mins after that. The food was really good.. like really good. yesterday 2-14-2024 we drove to Moab for BBQ. It used to be Really good !! Our lunch of 12 oz Tri Tip was dry, Not tender. The Okra and sweet potato fries were not fresh made. Everything seemed reheated. The bowl of Gumbo was Good, but used to be awesome. This was our 2nd trip to Moab to eat there since Covid. Both times it was the same. Disappointing. Staying next door at The Moab Valley Inn, The Blu Big was a convenient place for takeout. Ordered the fried catfish dinner, which included fish, two sides and cornbread. Seemed like a fair value for $18.95, but it really was not. The fish amounted to one small fillet; no more than 3 ounces, at most. The tossed salad was good, and offered more variety than iceberg lettuce. A cup of baked beans, and a tiny cornbread muffin that was inedible. As a professional tour guide who often recommends Moab dining options, The Blu Pig isn't one I'd promote as a good value, though I will say it was all the food I needed. read more

For a family of four, I think we ordered the wrong thing! We ordered (2) of the 8 oz/2 sides BBQ combos. We don't eat pork, so we ordered tri-tip, prime rib, smoked turkey, and burnt ends. For our sides, we ordered french fries, baked beans, coleslaw, and fried okra. BBQ combos always come with a corn bread muffin. Flavors were delicious. I loved that the Blu Pig offers 3 different sauces to choose to your liking: a sweet bbq sauce, a mustard-based sauce (my favorite), and I believe a Texas-cracked black pepper barbecue sauce. Their cornbread muffin is more like a cornbread cupcake in size. Would not recommend their smoked turkey--it was dry to me and the smokey flavor wasn't coming through. The tri-tip, prime rib, and burnt tips were delicious. I particularly liked the french fries because of the fresh crispiness...dare I say it? It's like what In-N-Out french fries should be! The reason I prefaced with a disclaimer is that I felt convinced by our server that a) the turkey was going to be good and that b) (2) 8oz/2 side BBQ combos would satiate the four of us. It wasn't enough--I had to knock off a star for this. We ordered an extra order of house fries because we were all still feeling on the emptier side. (I will mention that even though it states the portion size by weight, 8 oz per protein portion is really not much at all. And in my experience at BBQ restaurants, this portion size is *tiny* and IMO, is worth mentioning to customers.) Otherwise, there is private parking. This is a combination review of 2 separate visits last week. My boyfriend and I came in on Wednesday to have some drinks, and sat at the bar. The bartender was "friendly" and "attentive." as in he quickly took our orders and prepared our drinks. We were chatting with him throughout our visit, and his rather grumpy attitude and commentary about the state of Moab, his life, having to wear a mask was not exactly the small talk that we felt like having with a random stranger. We didn't want to listen to the negativity so we quickly finished our one drink each and cashed out, rather than staying for more. A few days later, we dined in the restaurant with some friends that we had met up with in Moab and who wanted to eat here. We were seated on the patio, which was great because there were heaters, and it was a chilly night. Turns out the heater next to our table could not be turned on because it was out of gas. We all ordered various BBQ combo platters. The food was pretty good, and satisfying after a long day of adventuring. We spent the day in Arches and CanyonLands and came is just before 3 PM. We were thirsty and hungry. It was quite. The amiance is BLUE. Layover in Moab overnight and decided to give this place a try, so since I'm not much on BBQ I ordered a cheeseburger. The first thing that got my attention was that they didn't ask like most high end burger places how I wanted it cooked. Surprisingly, it doesn't seem that Moab has many vegetarian options out there particularly after a long day of hiking. So, I decided to go to The Blu Pig simply for its proximity to my hotel which also provided 10% off on my meal. When I arrived, I was eating alone and so the host encouraged me to go to the bar rather than the restaurant area. Personally, I would have preferred to be in the restaurant given it had a much more quieter feel but I understand I was alone and they'd prefer me to take a bar seat so I went in there which is a much darker space and had a musician playing on a Saturday night. The vibe is fine in the bar and pretty much what you'd expect from a BBQ bar on a Saturday night. I've been to so many places with that feel around the country and it services what it needs to with sports on the TVs, people chatting, and a musician playing. The Blu Pig is clearly a meat lover's heaven which is difficult for me since I don't eat meat so I can't really address the BBQ or how good it is but it apparently is good given the other reviews. I did order the veggie burger off the menu. It was fine. I don't believe it's made in-house but, again, given this is a meat heavy establishment, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. What I did appreciate was that they had hushpuppies on their menu as a side. That was a huge plus that I really enjoyed and not something that you normally see at a restaurant even one like this one. So, that was an awesome touch. Other than that, I thought service was solid and the bartender was a nice guy. I also appreciated that they had O'Doul's behind the bar for those of us who no longer drink but still wouldn't mind a N/A to relax after a long day. The Blu Pig is sufficient if you are in Moab to get filled up. I'm sure it's a much better experience if you're looking to eat a lot of meat or drink up but that's just not me. I also thought the musician was good even if I wasn't in the mood for such a loud bar vibe experience and she did well given a majority of the crowd didn't even care that she was performing. Hi, traveling through and stopped because it looked crowded Sat afternoon. Ordered the turkey bacon swiss sandwich and it was ok. The hogie roll is pretty good. Got the gumbo as a side and it was pretty plain, brothy. Our other order was catfish sandwich with mac & cheez, pretty ok was the comment. The food took a while to come out but acceptable. The waitress was ok, but at the end she presented the bill with some fancy card reader machine and it was the wrong bill! The total was less than one of our entrees. This place. Wow. I get I am visiting a MAGA state BUT this town caters to tourists. So let's start with the staff. Host had his mask off most of the evening. The rest of the staff had masks under their noses. I made the comment to the waitress that I expected masks to be covering her nose. Her response? I sweat when it's above my nose. We went here while visiting the area, as a default from where we were originally planning on going. Let me say that both my wife and I love really good BBQ, but so far on this trip to the west, we have only had one really good BBQ, and that was in Jackson, Wyoming. This place is a total confusion factor for me. If the meat is cooked properly, you don't need to put MSG on it to make it tender. This place uses MSG on it's meat, which I am very sensitive to, so needless to say, I was sick after eating here. The place was understaffed when we were there, so long waits were the special of the day. To add insult to injury, this was the highest priced BBQ joint that I have been to, anywhere on our trip to the west. Almost anywhere in town is better than this place. After reading the garbage response by the manager, let me tell the truth. They do in fact have MSG in their spices that they put on the meat, they probably have not taken the time to see what is in the spices that they put on the meat. As far as a living wage, that is BS. We have paid less for the same meals in California, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming, so the fact is, you are just trying to make more of a profit. The understaffed issue, only seems to be affecting this establishment. We have been to others here in Moab, and they had plenty of help. Again, maybe they are trying to make more profit. I'm going to admit I'm not a huge barbecue fan - I like it, but won't seek it out. Came here so the dog could join us and the husband could get his fix. BUT, ummm wow! Favorite barbecue for me, ever! Got the Cajun sausage and tri tip - both were good, the tri tip was awesome! Soft and tasty with three great sauces on the table to choose from to add to it. We had driven in from Denver yesterday and stayed at LaQuinta. We just wanted a tasty meal close by. Our waitress was Krystyna and she was FANTASTIC. I told her she was the best server we have had in a long time. She was attentive, kind, pleasant and served with a smile. We got the 3-meat option of tri-tip, brisket, and pulled pork. The tri-tip was outstanding, the brisket very good but the pulled pork seemed dry. Overall, we had a good meal enhanced by a great server. Please give Krystyna a raise or a bonus. As an overall restaurant I'm giving 3 stars but if i was rating this strictly as a BBQ joint it would be 1 star. We had brisket and smoked chicken and we couldn't detect even a hint of smoke. I don't think any of it is actually cooked in a BBQ smoker. The Voodoo chicken was good but again, not smokey at all. The "gumbo" was a bowl of runny pulled pork.
