The rest of the staff had masks under their noses. I made the comment to the waitress that I expected masks to be covering her nose. Her response? I sweat when it's above my nose. The food and service were great. We loved the fresh chicharrones and the burnt ends were full of flavor but could have been a bit more "burnt" in my opinion. Our server was on point our entire visit. We sat out on the patio which was pleasant. The outdoor tables felt really cheap and were not very comfortable but that is the one and only reason I did not give a full 5 stars. I had Pulled Pork, Cold Slaw AND Hush Puppies.Owners are originally from Florida I understand - as am I! They understand their Southern Roots Expressed through the restraurant's Menu to be Sure! I'm going to admit I'm not a huge barbecue fan - I like it, but won't seek it out. Came here so the dog could join us and the husband could get his fix. BUT, ummm wow! Favorite barbecue for me, ever! Got the Cajun sausage and tri tip - both were good, the tri tip was awesome! Soft and tasty with three great sauces on the table to choose from to add to it. We went here while visiting the area, as a default from where we were originally planning on going. Let me say that both my wife and I love really good BBQ, but so far on this trip to the west, we have only had one really good BBQ, and that was in Jackson, Wyoming. This place is a total confusion factor for me. If the meat is cooked properly, you don't need to put MSG on it to make it tender. This place uses MSG on it's meat, which I am very sensitive to, so needless to say, I was sick after eating here. The place was understaffed when we were there, so long waits were the special of the day. To add insult to injury, this was the highest priced BBQ joint that I have been to, anywhere on our trip to the west. Almost anywhere in town is better than this place. After reading the garbage response by the manager, let me tell the truth. They do in fact have MSG in their spices that they put on the meat, they probably have not taken the time to see what is in the spices that they put on the meat. As far as a living wage, that is BS. We have paid less for the same meals in California, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming, so the fact is, you are just trying to make more of a profit. The understaffed issue, only seems to be affecting this establishment. We have been to others here in Moab, and they had plenty of help. Again, maybe they are trying to make more profit. We had driven in from Denver yesterday and stayed at LaQuinta. We just wanted a tasty meal close by. Our waitress was Krystyna and she was FANTASTIC. I told her she was the best server we have had in a long time. She was attentive, kind, pleasant and served with a smile. We got the 3-meat option of tri-tip, brisket, and pulled pork. The tri-tip was outstanding, the brisket very good but the pulled pork seemed dry. Overall, we had a good meal enhanced by a great server. Please give Krystyna a raise or a bonus. I will give some credit, being from Kansas City (the home of barbecue), I'm pretty high maintenance when It comes to bbq and have been spoiled. The meat was not moist, the sauces were very subpar. Hi, traveling through and stopped because it looked crowded Sat afternoon. Ordered the turkey bacon swiss sandwich and it was ok. The hogie roll is pretty good. Got the gumbo as a side and it was pretty plain, brothy. Our other order was catfish sandwich with mac & cheez, pretty ok was the comment. The food took a while to come out but acceptable. The waitress was ok, but at the end she presented the bill with some fancy card reader machine and it was the wrong bill! The total was less than one of our entrees. I'm strongly opinionated on, and am highly hesitant to believe that any amazing barbecue can come out of anywhere but Texas.... however I have to say the Blu Pig is one of my new all-time faves. This is even having to order it as carry out because we have an at-risk family member who really shouldn't be in public places right now. Carry-out is never as good as in person but it was terrific. The meat stands on its own. The brisket, tri-tip and turkey were all equally impressive without having to smother the meat in sauce (but the sauce was indeed good). We were the last customers so it was not surprising when we found out all the meats had run out except for the turkey and sausage. The turkey came with a delicious mustard sauce and the sausage came with a delicious barbecue sauce. The manager also arranged for us to get a pint of huckleberry ice cream and although that was not made in house, the coordination and amazing taste are worth mentioning. Five stars is for the food. Three stars for service. But the amazing food takes precedence! Stopped here on a road trip and we were both blown away by the food. This place was very much the restaurant highlight of the whole trip. They advertise that they slow-smoke their own meat, and oh boy do they! I had the smoked turkey plate with cranberry BBQ sauce and baked beans and potato salad as sides. The turkey was perfect in every way: melt-in-your-mouth tender, juicy, lightly blackened exterior, and absolutely aromatic with smoke. The cranberry BBQ sounded strange, but they have done it right! All the flavours were magically balanced to create something with distinct BBQ and berry notes; one did not overpower the other. It paired beautifully with the turkey. The sides were the true surprise. Often, restaurants will half-ass the sides as long as they have a great main dish, but Blu Pig does not do second best. I am a dedicated fan of potato salad and I could have eaten a huge bucket of the stuff they make. It was so creamy and rich and tangy...mmmmm. The baked beans were probably the most surprising: they were smoked! I'd never before had the pleasure of eating smoked baked beans, but now I will feel deprived every time I have "normal" baked beans. I wish I lived close to the Blu Pig, but then again, I'd probably go broke spending all my money here if I did, so perhaps it's a blessing in disguise to be far away. Best barbecue I've had so far, and some of the best food, period. The service was just ok, but it's understandable that the servers would be stressed, given how super busy the restaurant is, and how touristy Moab is, generally. There are two main seating areas: the bar, where the live music happens, and the "quiet" dining room (they are separated by a wall and doors). We sat in the quiet area. Ugh....had high hopes for some good BBQ after a long day of hiking. This place....avoid it. The service is sub-par, not friendly. The food worse than that. I got the burnt ends and they were not edible. They were so burnt you couldn't eat them. I tried covering them in BBQ sauce to make it softer but that didn't work either. I ate my sides and they were just okay (coleslaw and mac and cheese). My husband got the combo plate with the sausage, pulled pork and brisket. It was just okay too. Our visit to this restaurant seemed fine until 3 of us in our party got very ill from food poisoning. I called the restaurant to let them know, first guy said they would get back to us and possibly give us a refund - he never bothered to get back to us. Second employee I spoke with said it was virtually impossible that happened, and said there was nothing he could do. I understand stuff happens, and it was unfortunate that my family was sick for 2 days because of it. Especially when we had a 4+ hour drive home...with food poisoning. But this restaurant could have, at the very least done the right thing and 1) Returned our call and have a manager speak to us. 2) Consider giving us a partial or full refund. The man on the phone kept talking about how much business they did that night, so would it really have been a big deal to do the right thing for the customer? As an overall restaurant I'm giving 3 stars but if i was rating this strictly as a BBQ joint it would be 1 star. We had brisket and smoked chicken and we couldn't detect even a hint of smoke. I don't think any of it is actually cooked in a BBQ smoker. The Voodoo chicken was good but again, not smokey at all. The "gumbo" was a bowl of runny pulled pork. Didn't taste bad but it wasn't gumbo. The fried catfish was supposed to be cajun but had no flavor. Our server was friendly but seemed like she was new. BF and I were seated in the main dining room, so we weren't able to hear the live music in the bar; maybe next time... We are both big fans of Utah's own High West whiskey, but since it was the off-season, the bar did not have many options in stock. The food is great, this review is not about the food. I highly recommend getting take out from this restaurant. I observed that the recommend COVID protocols were not being followed. All the tables on the inside of the restaurant were seated, no social distancing in evidence. The waiting area was packed with people. They were shoulder to shoulder waiting to get seated or for their take out. Many of the customers were not wearing masks. The wait staff were clearly overwhelmed and probably did not notice this. I came to the restaurant to order a Turkey bacon melt they didn't have turkey. That's no problem I'll get something else! I asked for a Philly cheese steak. None of the meat they use for that. I order a salad they had no meats and didn't have any ice at this restaurant the salad i got was supposed to have chicken. What did it not have? Chicken.
