Hatchet job
Boris M.

We visited Blind Donkey on a Friday evening. The place wasn't too crowded yet, and we managed to find a spot at the bar. It's open seating throughout, and all orders are placed directly at the bar. We tried the Hatchet Job (Mezcal, Campari, Lemon, Simple Syrup) and the Pineapple Daiquiri (Rum, Pineapple, and Lime Juice). Both drinks were well-balanced and enjoyable. Service was good, and the atmosphere was relaxed--nothing too fancy, which was a refreshing change given the area. Overall, it's a pleasant spot for a quick, laid-back drink. Highly recommended if you're looking for a casual place with good cocktails and a friendly vibe.

Just good vibes in here, nice bar, good whisky, nice staff, actually clean place, the restrooms were very clean, we had a very good time here, is a good place for a drink on a Weekend.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: A casual, comfortable bar with weekend happy hour FTW! We'd been to the Blind Donkey in downtown Long Beach a few times but had no idea there were other locations. We'd come out of an art show at the Armory nearby and wanted to grab a drink and a snack in the area before heading back. While wandering around, I happened to spot their sign down a side street and we decided to investigate. The ambiance was open and inviting, with many windows letting in the sunshine--very different from the Long Beach location, which is cool but underground. There were a bunch of fun and interesting signs and items on the walls, and they also had a parklet outside. It was fairly busy on a Sunday afternoon--the people perhaps drawn in by their weekend Happy Hour, but their prices seemed reasonable overall anyway. We decided to sit at the bar and I got an old fashioned and the hubby a whiskey sour, and we decided to share a grilled cheese sandwich. Everything was excellent, especially the sandwich, which was pressed panini-style and served with pickle chips that were an unexpected and awesome accompaniment--the little zing of acid really livened up the cheese and bread. The bartenders were cool, and it was a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon. We wouldn't hesitate to return the next time we're in the area.

A good Old Fashioned.

Union St. in Pasadena is a great place to stroll, eat, and drink. One of its charms is The Blind Donkey, a friendly, easy-going refuge for a cocktail. Our party enjoyed sitting at a table with excellently-prepared drinks: Manhattan, Old Fashioned, a Mexcal concoction, a Gin cocktail-- plus a bowl of mixed nuts. There's nothing pretentious here-- just an amiable atmosphere with servers who know how to mix their spirits well. Plus, they have a top-notch supply of your favorite libations. It's also a great stop before or after going to dinner at one of the restaurants along Union.

Best French fries. Triple fried and jalapeno ranch! Cool relaxing vibe with a huge selection of whiskey

"Now I'm a flying, talking donkey!" - after a few of their amazing old fashioned cocktails! But we don't just come here for the delicious drinks and friendly staff, we come here for the best corn dogs and french fries in LA (at least at the top of my list). Plus I love the laid back, comfortable vibe. It's a great interior and is usually pretty chill (we tend to go in the early evening). My only suggestion: please add something to cover the outdoor seating. It really needs it. We always want to sit outside but mostly opt for inside because it's so bright and hot at the outdoor tables.

Nice selection of whiskey

4++ a very nice Pasadena wateringhole with a great selection and great people. Nice vibe for hanging out as well. It could get really busy at times. i've been here previously with some good friends just to meet up and drink. My latest visit, I was passing sometime while waiting for one of my good friends to get into town so we can grab dinner next door. I got some Stagg Jr - neat. I'm a big fan and the pricing was relatively reasonable for a whiskey that hard to get. If Definitely a great place to go to meet up with people and have a nice drink. If you are drinking, I would recommend ridesharing, but just as an FYI parking could be a little tough since it is the very busy area of Pasadena.

From fun nights out, special occasions, whiskey tastings, exploring the speakeasy... playing some pool, enjoying libations, taking in live music, perfect outings on the patio, the occasional cigar. So many great memories and experiences created here including some awesome date days with my other half. If stopping in for the first time you'll discover S.G. on 7th and Grand Avenue with a door person usually always at the bottom of the staircase just outside of the restaurant/cocktail bar Zaya (which has been many incarnations including Bar CDMX, V and Mas Malo). Provide them with a valid ID, as anybody over 21 should have a valid form of identification on them at all times, not just for driving or access to 21+ events or establishments, but for safety. And Seven Grand cares about everyone and their safety. They value their staff as much as their customers. And it shows in every way from thoughtful space in all directions, great pool tables, a whiskey, bourbon and scotch curated cocktail menu, even some good brew/beer. Awesome hallways with cabinet lockers, the cleanest restrooms, great dim dark warm lighting, fun fixtures and true DTLA vibes that feel old timey yet also very modern. Seven Grand is open to all and all are welcome. Stellar daily happy hour 4pm to 8pm. I love a good $10 Toki Highball at 5pm, but you can't go wrong with their classic old fashion also. All the bartenders are incredible as well as personable. S Grand is open every day from 4pm until 2am. Loads of lots close by as well as the Metro station at 7th and Metro. Though the trains currently stop just a little after midnight. Rideshare is also your friend, which now includes Waymo in the area. Discover Seven Grand also in San Diego, Austin or Denver. If planning an event you inquire with Stephen via email for personal parties, events with a budget and even corporate parties. They're very accommodating with a good amount of notice. When we had my boyfriend's birthday here they reserved a table for us and set us up with everything we needed. Thinking of having my next birthday here myself both at Seven Grand and Bar Jackalope (their hidden speakeasy). Support your awesome LA Whiskey Bar!

We've been here a few times and really wanted to like this place. The food and drinks feel more…read moreelevated than most spots nearby, and as locals in Monrovia, we were hoping it could become a regular for us. This last visit was frustrating enough that we won't be rushing back. We came in just before 6:00 PM with a babysitter and a limited window. The restaurant wasn't busy, maybe five tables, but service was completely off. Our entrée took about 45 minutes. It was comped, but no one acknowledged the delay. No apology, no explanation, nothing. We also got the wrong side (fries instead of onion rings), and while it was corrected quickly, it added to the overall feeling that no one was really paying attention. The bigger issue was how absent the service felt. Our server never came back for a second round of drinks, and I had to go to the bar myself. When I mentioned it, the response was basically that the server was busy with another table, which felt dismissive given how long we had already been waiting. No one was busy. By the time food arrived, it was around 6:45 PM. The problem wasn't just the wait, it was the lack of communication or basic hospitality the entire time. I actually emailed the restaurant directly after our visit and never heard back, which is disappointing and honestly says a lot. At this point, it's hard not to feel like they just don't really care about the customer experience or about keeping people coming back. It's a shame, because the place has potential, but right now it doesn't feel like it's being taken seriously.
